@@dragoonTT I struggle with figuring out how it's aggressive riding, when the skis are off the ground and the only time you can accelerate is when you're going in a straight line. It seems to me the Renegade would be for more aggressive riding. How can you ride aggressive if you can't steer?

Incredibly detailed comparison - subscribed and thumbs up! I watched your other one of the Lynx RAVE alone as well and really looked forward to this comparison. I love the look of the Lynx by far over the Ski-Doo which looks too short up front. I hope they someday come with a 900 turbo though Ski-Doo's turbo hoods (with intercooler intake) looks awesome. The Lynx rear suspension is fascinating as are the 46 mm Kashima full clicker shocks all around. I still can't believe we can now by a Lynx over here.

Glad to finally see Lynx on your side of the pond. Regarding plushness, spend time adjusting the shocks. Took me a long time to get them just so but when you get it right it'll ride more plush than anything else i've ridden and still not bottom out. The progressive suspensiom is awesome . Getting the hi/lo compression and rebound to that sweet spot takes time. Playing with preload in the skid will let you plant those skis more with ease if thats what you want. Last 3 sleds were Lynx and getting a '22 Boondocker RE. Tried alot of great sleds but just feel at home on these. They seem to be made for my kind of riding.

I'd like to know if that's true. If I could chose colors for a sled, black and red are the easy choice for me. If I were to drop that kind of cash on a sled, just like a new car, it's going to be the color I want, among other things.

Yeah. I like when a Sled bucks me around a bit can make transitioning easier if you time it with a bump. I do like the idea of a more firm, Narrow seat. Easier to hop over to the other side can really dig your knee into it. I also do like the handle bars as far towards the front as possible but losing adjustment I'd say is a downside. The levelling in the front of the running board. Is great! I think. I'd have to try it to know. But I feel it would help with quick changes in slope when you have your feet that far forward. Although wheelies is a bit frightning. Would have to right it to know how safe it feels. But nice to know it's easier to roll side to side, that is a nice +.

Nice break down Luke, I am looking forward to ST seat of the pants feeling between Skidoo’s new active suspension and there tried tested and true XRS KYB package. How they compare in both real world riding and on whooped out trails!
@jerl.980
@jerl.980 2 года назад
Tested both for 5h and it is really difficult to choose one or the other. I rode the xrs first and really liked it, it does everything well and ride well and feels planted and suspension works great. Xrs rider triangle felt good and steering was both easy and predictable. I jump on the Lynx and after giving it a good healthy full on gaz i smile and laugh in my helmet and said no way this is so fun. The ski wheelies at will and gives a very different riding experience. This is not a beginner sled because you have to know when to gaz and when to use weight transfer. We had a first time rider with us and he was 20 km/h slower on the Lynx from the Mach z we had also. Both the lynx and xrs had similar confort on the trail but in bumps the lynx just want you to speed up and skip over. I would say if you don’t know what to buy buy a XRS but if you are experience and want to revive so fun in you trail riding take the Lynx. One thing to consider is that the lynx does not shield you from wind like the XRS, it is a much colder ride but you move more on it so you are building more heat yourself. Very accurate evaluation and description here. I can confirm because i tried both and Snowtrax is 100% on the money here.

Losen maximum(spring, flatdriver and 17mm) the rear shock on the pps3, and it will beat the r-motion all day long. and the mid spring pressure to medium. Set a shorter limitedstrap, or to the highest setting, for keeping it from wheeling like crazy.

Love the plushness of the Rmotion X I feel like with how I have mine set up it can handle little stutters great and still avoid bottoming on big hits. Ive always wanted a bit more transfer even in the lower front arm position. Ill be very curious to hear if the Lynx is just stiff or if it can be set up to do a little bit of everything.
@smaug1977
@smaug1977 3 года назад
The RE(RE stands for Race Edition) are very stiff, I ride one myself(an X-terrain RE 850 3700 - the Backcountry 146 XRS would be very similar) and rode '15 Renegade XRS before. Can they be plush? Sure but it would take a valve job to accomplish. IMHO the rMotion is a better skid than PPS on trails for general riding, maybe putting on a 2-up seat etc. The rMotion is just great, period! The PPS are way more playful and are super strong built and its a wheelie monster. You cant really make it do other things great other than what it was made to do. Its made for very harsh trails and it works at its best when you ride it hard. Slow riding isnt really where it shines. A common mistake some do, even in Scandinavia, is they start to adjust the shocks for it to keep the nose down(stiffen the rear shock low speed and pulling up the center arm) but this will only ruin the way PPS works. They wheelie! If you dont want that in a sled, buy a Ski-Doo. Another thing many will notice is that a Lynx isnt as good in deep snow as Ski-Doo counterpart. Its an old saying that you need to move up one track length for it to compete with a Ski-Doo in deep powder. This was specially true some years ago, today they are getting closer but they are still not there.

@smaug1977
@smaug1977 3 года назад
@@akmt9114 your welcome. Many asks whats so special with the pps suspension and only Pauli Pippola himself could give a straight answer but as you can see, both arms stands very close to each other. The front torque arm and the rear scissor are mounted very close on the rails. This will always create a wheelie machine by itself. It's hard for the rear shock to resist weight transfer so it would needed to be very stiff to counteract this behaviour which in turn would ruin the overall performance. On rMotion the arms are spread apart giving the rear shock much less torque to overcome plus the coupling also do what it is suppose to do. The biggest difference between those two are while the 137 rMotion isn't a bad climber being a 137", the PPS don't do this very well. Doing a u-turn in the middle of a down slope will only raise the front end pronto. The PPS are also known for trench a lot, specially the stiffer RE models. My best advice is to test a Lynx before you buy. If it fits your style of riding it will probably do it with excellence.

Here in Norway(Part of Scandinavia) this is a very rare sled. People buy boondockers, rangers, commander and xterrain. I love the new Lynx Rave . I've been looking at lynx for 4 years now. Luke... you sold me on my very first new sled , snocheck . The 2015 pro X 800 Polaris sb. How does this compare to it? It looks like it's very similar.

Lynx looks good. Not SRX good, but really good. Of course looks are subjective but I’ve personally never liked the stub nose Doo look. Prior series was a sharper looking Doo sled. Good article.

Another very informative video. I got a question about the rear suspension. The RAVE rear suspension doesn't use torsion springs like the the XRS dose. Do you know how a bigger guy would go about changing the rear suspension to make it stiffer? Would you need to change the springs on the shocks themselves ? Both of the sleds look SWEET 🤘 Keep up the AWESOME reviews on NEW sleds and other tech.
@pavmentsurfer13
@pavmentsurfer13 3 года назад
The shocks have threaded bodies so for a bigger guy youd just wind up the spring. If your ALOT bigger you MAY need a bigger spring, but I doubt it since they are setup very stiff from the factory. I would say its more likely that lighter riders would need a lighter spring.

Arctic Cat. At that height you’re going to be more comfortable walking! Just kidding. Try to figure out exactly what you want a machine to do for you, and be honest with yourself, then without being brand loyal try to limit what you’re interested in by 4 or 5 sleds, then grab your wallet and sit on some, I guarantee you, you’ll keep coming back to the same sled and saying ‘Oh ya! This is it!’ Also very important to purchase from a reputable dealer! They can make a good sled great, and a not so good sled good. Happy shopping. 🙂

Can I set up the lynx to be good on trail and lake riding

Awesome! It sounds like it is a beast! I want to see the trail report! It looks like it will rail. How does ther steering feel compared to the renegade.I would think it would have a lighter feel? I know the ski doo can feel a bit heavy in the front. Thanks love what you guys do!!

It feels lighter (your right about the heavy feeling on the renegade) but it still bites better in the turns. Everyone around here whos ridden it has come away with that exact same impression.

Great quick comparison Luke! I'm up in Muskoka and a lot of my buddies have been buying freeride and backcountry 146's lately (rip to the freeride 137) so they can rip powder fields and get the nose up on-demand while still being manageable on the trails to get from point A to point B. In my mind the Rave RE kind of fills the gap that the Freeride 137 left behind but does it better. 146 can be a lot of track for some, especially if you're a trail-biased rider, plus the Backcountry and Freeride have a relatively narrow stance which can cause added ski lift on the trails. The Rave Re seems like it's going to be the perfect sled for someone like me who likes to rip trails, hit the powder fields, ride un-groomed stuff and have fun while doing it. The uncoupled suspension I think is what makes this package work. Getting the nose up and getting loose on an MXZ or Renegade can be difficult, but I have a feeling that's not the case with the Rave lol. So, to sum it up, in my mind the Rave RE sits between the Renegade and the Backcountry/Freeride in the Ski-Doo lineup. All the fun of the deeper snow sleds but with a more manageable track length, wider ski stance, and presumably better ride quality on/off-trail with that insane PPS3 suspension. Cheers man!

Thank you for these amazing videos! I currently have a G4 MXZ XRS and the suspension is no where near where I need it to be for my riding style. I think this sled is the answer, but how does it handle turns compared to a MXZ?

@@snowtrax I replayed that part of the video many times. My brain cannot compute how an uncoupled skid can handle better than a coupled skid in terms of weight transfer around corners. Neverminded the the extra track length!.. The only way I can see it handling better is through exaggerated weight transfer because of the uncoupled skid and the use of trail braking around corners (like a race car). But then again I am not an expert, all I can do is preorder this sled and wait for more great videos from Snowtrax!
@pavmentsurfer13
@pavmentsurfer13 3 года назад
Honestly, it makes no sense that the RAVE handles as good as it does. I rode it all day yesterday while filming. Snow conditions were wet and super hard. The sled handled great. I personally believe a Renegade would have been brutal to steer (the 2021's steer SO heavy) but once the skis broke free in a corner it would have just pushed through the corner like crazy. THe weird thing is that your description of how you think youd need to ride a rave to make it corner (fast in, brake to weight the front then throttle out) is EXACTLY how you have to ride a G4 with the X suspension. Its all about the roll centre. The Lynx has a taller roll centre so it does a better job of weighting the outside ski and causing it to bite. The X suspension on the G4 lowers the roll centre so the sled doesnt weight its outside ski enough, which results in mid corner push.
