Hi Mike! I just weighed my 21oz CB Podium Chill (insulated) bottle and I got 118g. The 800ml FL is 132g and the 590ml FL is 116g. I would guess that the FL frame mount is very close in weight to a standard aluminum cage and of course a non insulated Chill bottle and carbon cage would weigh slightly less. So not a whole lot there in terms of added weight from the FL system... I hope this helps!
I had this bottle in my cart for the longest time and I could never hit Buy. The lack of insulation for one thing, and that cap on the spout isn't made for road bikers. They have one without cap but then it's twice the price! It's completely absurd. Great review tho!
Hi Chris! The lack of an insulated bottle is the biggest reason not to buy the FidLock. I recently asked FL on IG if they were going to make one and they said yes and it should be available to buy at the end of the year. Once they have one, it should be a game changer... thanks for the helpful comment! 👍
Hello. Cool review. How has the bottle performed in use? Do you happen to bump (hook) it while cycling? Does it come unfastened from an accidental touch with the foot? And does it rattle (knock) when driving on a bad road?
Hey there! The Fidlock bottles work awesome. They stay in place and have never once fallen off of my hardtail. The larger 800ml bottle can rattle a little bit on my roughest descent when it is full, but this is a really fast and choppy trail and I'm on a hardtail. Your foot would not be able to knock it off as you have to twist it pretty far to remove it.... I will never use a regular bottle again!
Thanks! It's funny you asked this because I was wondering the same thing yesterday when seeing the new 5010 reviews. I'm not sure I have ever seen a picture of the Glove Box without a cage installed, so I don't know if it has 2 standard bosses or it's something else ,and I certainly don't want to lead you astray as I honestly don't know if the Fidlock will work. If it is just 2 standard cage bosses, then I don't see why it would not work? Maybe buy from Amazon so you can return it if for some reason it doesn't work.
Getting one myself I own a hightower v3 and ride pretty aggressively and was worried about it flying off and seen bottle cages that you can twist a knob and it tightens around the bottle but none of them fit so I'm hoping this does the job because I don't like wearing a back pack!!
Hi Meliodas! Man, I don't like wearing a pack of any kind either. I have never - not once, had the Fidlock bottle come off of my hardtail. I absolutely love it! I just wish they made an insulated bottle for my SoCal high desert summer rides.
Hi emonty! The stand in this video is a Feedback Sports Scorpion bike stand. The stand in my newer videos is a Topeak Flash Stand MX which I think is better than this Scorpion.
In the summer months (100f plus) I put it in the refrigerator the night before and I ride very early in the morning so that isn't an issue. But yes, it is not insulated.
That's a fair criticism for sure. Before the Fidlock I used either a Polar or Camelbak Chill Podium bottle for my SoCal high desert rides but neither did a stellar job of keeping my water cold, but they are both better than the Fidlock. Now I just throw the Fidlock in the fridge the night before and it stays cold on spring, fall and winter rides and during the summer, it stays cool for 90ish minutes. Maybe someday they will do an insulated bottle! Thanks for watching.
