She's unexpected but she was brilliant in The Lost Daughter. Kinda wish Dakota Johnson was nominated too but i think Jessie Buckley is safe too. Pair Olivia and Jessie together, i can't believe how pitch perfect the casting is. Probably one of the most underrated nominee of all nominees
Jessie’s BAFTA and Oscar nominations would easily secure her nomination for the Olivier Awards! She’s currently playing Sally Bowles in the musical revival of Cabaret at the West End (with Eddie Redmayne as the Emcee), so a Best Actress in a Musical nomination would be shoo-in. Fingers crossed on Tuesday for the Olivier nominations announcement!! I can see Jessie battling it out with the likes of Sutton Foster or Carrie Hope Fletcher for the spot.
The fact that Kristen Stewart actually made it after the BAFTA and SAG snub that might've tanked her Oscar potential but not, I'm so glad The Academy play fair on her, she absolutely deserved it. "Academy Award Nominee Kristen Stewart" Is the next thing you would see in many of Kristen's future projects. As a non Twilight hater and acknowledge the franchise as a guilty pleasure of mine, I'm happy for Kristen
@@dominiceliseo Spencer isn't my favourite movie of the year but man Kristen was absolutely phenomenal as Diana, one of the best performance of the year easily. She deserves it.
@@15Candles Renee Zellweger got the Best Actress Award and the only award for Judy which many critics found to be a flawed biopic with problematic execution. The Academy tends to be partial towards strong performances in biopics even if those biopics are flawed. Since all 9500 plus voters are voting for Best Actress from these 5 nominees and not just Kristen maybe she has a shot???
This year, Michelle Williams missed SAG and Bafta, and still got nominated in the end. OVER Viola Davis who got in everywhere. Twice in a row, this has happened!
"Academy Award Nominee Kristen Stewart" is something you never thought you would hear coming off from Twilight, I'm super happy for Kristen. To all the people who say Kristen Stewart is a terrible actress just because of that one mediocre franchise, jokes on them right now 😂😂 This is Kristen's moment to right the wrong path in her career. She has always been a fantastic actress, she simply needs a better director and script to work with like every actor does
@@Awardshq You do understand that Kristen gave one of the best performance of last year and have been getting lots of award talks right? She WAS that bad actress thingy, but now she turned out to be a fantastic actress picking better writers and directors to work with
It’s not cause she has one nomination for the Oscar’s, that she is officially a great actress. I really thought her performance was actually boring without any appeal.
@@onmyown- Dude, she was phenomenal as Princess Diana. This shows that Kristen has always been a good actress when she's given the right material. She nailed the personality of Diana, her anxiety, her struggles with paparazzi, her chemistry with the kids, she was great. Man, I love seeing Kristen proving her haters wrong. S
Your reactions are a never-ending source of joy for me; I've been following awards season for over 20 years and I thought I was the only one with who took it this seriously; I love seeing your videos and hearing your predictions and analysis. Looking forward to the big night
this is solely the reason why I continue to watch them… my love for film to an extent isn’t backed up by my friends, but instead, it’s these two and I couldn’t be more happier about it!
Yeah I don't think Chastain and Cruz will win (which is sad) , Giving it to Kidman will be a court jester move because while i do loved her in BTR and the movie itself , i don't think BTR is oscar worthy so really shocking where it get 3 acting category . The only threat Stewart has is actually Colman and we all knew how Oscar loved Colman . They nominate her for The Favourite for Lead Actress and won . They nominate her again for The Father this time for Supporting Actress (But loss to Youn Yuh-jung for Minari) and now they nominate her in lead actress again for The Lost Daugther . Personally i would have replaced Kidman with Haim or Gaga (Maybe Gaga because while i do enjoyed Haim and Gaga perfomance , I think the oscar would have loved Gaga more than Haim) .
0:26 Thats gotta be a new record of fastest time for the cat to getting the hell out of the sofa. 2:35 The Clairvoyance of an Oscar Expert. 2:52 Surely a lock in happiest Oscar Expert moments. 3:24 They skipped one of my favorite categories, Animated short, but I gotta say of those 5 nominated in that category, all of them were really solid and I'm excited of that impressive lineup. No Disney or Pixar! 9:48 The Gaga moment 10:25 Oscar Expert makes his best impression of the Baron of Dune floating 14:54 I love this moment. The whole scene was hysterical. I want this to be their clip that they show when they get nominated.
I actually think Stewart could win now that she’s in. Makes me nervous as a Chastain fan, but both of them are deserving. At the end of the day, that category is just unpredictable. Literally no overlap with the BAFTAs!
I think she could actually win since she got the nomination. But it is really hard. I wish KS would win but at this point, any of tve incredible ladies wins, i will be happy.
Never happened without the Globes and SAG nominations. I know the nomination was a surprise since she was shut out from the major nominations from those and BAFTA, but Spencer would need a major resurgence outside its sole Oscar nomination. This is between Kidman and Chastain.
@@joshv3585 well no one has really expected Kristen to be nominated for a BAFTA since she played princess Diana in a quite controversial movie... but the SAG snub was painful. However, i think it is not entirelly impossible she could win but i think Kidman will receive it.
I think they did what they did with The Reader in 2009 and pushed Balfe in the leading category coz otherwise there's like nobody leading that movie. It might also make sense considering the supporting actor fiasco last year with Judas and the Black Messiah...
I don’t know if they campaigned Caitríona for lead instead of supporting, then there’s also the possibility they split votes. I also think that the British bloc voted for Judi and considered that she is 87 and this could be her last time she could be nominated for an Oscar. Well, it sucks really. I hope Caitríona would get more opportunities soon, or even an Oscar win! (But first, her overdue Emmy nom)
Judi Dench is a legend, but her performance is not worthy of a nomination, compared to Balfe who delivered a powerhouse performance it's just so unfair to snub her.
The fact that Kristen and Olivia were nominated after the BAFTA subs just makes me believe in the conspiracy theory that Prince William vetoes nominations
@@Wired4Life2 if only it get director nom It would have tied with TPOTD as the most nominated film on oscar 2022 with 11 . I even think that the threat that TPOTD have is 2 Dune and Licorice Pizza
AACTA is now officially an important precursor. They called Dench/Cruz/Stewart. They have a bias towards Aussies, but other than that their overlap with the academy SHOWS!
As a Gaga fan, I think it's kinda a good thing for Gaga not getting nominated in long run for her career. 🤔 cause she'll choose her next role more carefully, while having her performance done with more sophisticated acting skills plus the most important thing, don't over campaign! Congratulations to all nominees.
@@deemura thank you, I can't say awards and recognitions ain't important, but I would be more happy to see her growth as an artist as well as a person.
It was always a longshot. Rare for someone to be nominated for their first two major roles and the movie got mixed reviews. People only thought she'd get on because she got sag, GG, CC and Bafta nominations. Usually that means you'll be nominated I think Amy Adams is the only other example for BA where that didn't happen in recent years. Gaga is a good actress she just needs to do something that's a good role without having to do a difficult accent again and she'll get another nomination at least.
@@Milkyway._.251 Gaga is a good actress, the problem here is that House of Gucci wasn't even all that great, an absolute mess with a tonally inconsistent, because of that it really tanked her Oscar potential, the movie recieved mixed reviews, putting her bottom top 5 when The Academy voters watched the movie. I didn't like HOG, I see it as an unintentionally hilarious SNL skit, but Gaga was fine in the role, I just think there were others that were simply a lot better than her in a lot better movie than HOG. I'm just glad Gaga was there to make the movie atleast semi watchable. And yeah she kinda over campaign, compare her interviews with Kristen Stewart, Jessica Chastain, Olivia Colman, Penelope Cruz and Nicole Kidman, they seemed very chill about award chances, they never over campaign their own roles, they just want to give their best and let the performances speak for itself, now look at what happened. For Gaga, love her and will always support her future, she just need to pick better scripts and really needs to calm down a bit
Same, I almost lost hope when they announced Nicole Kidman, almost leave my chair because of dissappointment then when Leslie said Kristen, i just jumped out, so happy for her. They probably save Kristen for last considering that she was snubbed at the BAFTA and SAG. As a non hater of Twilight and considered them as fun guilty pleasure movie, I'd say 2022 is a great year for people who enjoyed the Twilight mocies. Kristen Stewart is an Academy Award Nominee and Robert Pattinson is Batman, two things that I would absolutely never knew it would happen in like million years maybe
Agreed! Stewart was always getting this nomination. It was Cruz that really shocked and won that spot rightly so, as House of Gucci was not a good film.
Finally! Someone said it, I mean, really? Kristen was a front runner for so long, won the most critics awards, why is her being nominated a surprise or why is it considered she was the one that "got Gaga's place"? Cruz was the one overlooked this entire time so I agree, she was the one taking LG place
My heart stopped when no mention of Gaga but it started to function again when Kristen Stewart was called. Stewart and Chastain were one the best things that happened last year. Gaga will be just fine w SAG & BAFTA though. But please, give her a better role, screenplay, and Guillermo del Toro.
2022 is an awesome year for the Twilight leads. Robert Pattinson is Batman and Kristen Stewart is an Oscar nominee!! I'm glad they both never give up after recieving so much criticism because of that mediocre franchise
let’s not bash twilight now, it deserves criticism but it also kick started both of their careers and allowed them to choose whatever they wanted (going more so on the indie route which I applaud them for). I do however, I agree that people should just stop linking her to it all the damn time…like she was already a quite established young actress before landing the role of Bella. Everyone loved her, you’d be looked at crazy if you said she was bad pre-2008.
This is definitely the best time to click on a video. Really am impressed on this nomination except my biggest disappointment is Denis Villeneauve for Dune. The crowning achievement of the sands of dune is one of the best directed of 2021. Also I’m so happy Kristen Stewart got nominated for her phenomenal Role in Spencer.
I have a feeling he may have been left off because they know Dune Part Two is coming and therefore wasn't everyone's priority to nominate him this year (kind of like Peter Jackson missing for The Two Towers because they knew Return of the King was coming)... so, he'll be redeemed in two years...
Just realised Andrew Garfield was in 3 oscar nominated movies! (Obv. his Best Actor Nom.) Editing- Tick Tick Boom Hair & Makeup- Eyes of Tammy Faye Visual Effects- No Way Home
This was just Andrew Garfield’s year. Even though he won’t win Best Actor, this was still a perfect storm of films for him that propelled him straight into true A-list status.
I hope you learned the lesson: The Critics Trifecta is VERY important and influential. Without it Drive My Car and Penélope Cruz wouldn't have received their nominations.
I would say Drive My Car and Cruz got in thanks to the international members that came in during the 2018 Oscars. But Kristen Stewart definitely got in thanks to the critics circuit.
@@Gemnist98 No. The Critics Trifecta put Drive My Car and Cruz on the map since december; not unlike Parasite or Marion Cotillard (Two Days, One Night)
@@vodkatonyq Let's not forget Drive My Car won three awards at the Cannes Film Festival including Best Screenplay and Penelope Cruz won Best Actress Volpi Cup at the Venice Film Festival, those two should tell you that both are definitely in an Oscar frontrunner. Had Penelope didn't win a Volpi Cup, I wouldn't think she would've made it through in this tight competition
We broke Oscar records here in Denmark :) - for the first time ever one movie was nominated in Best International Picture, Best Documentary and Best Animation. No other film has ever accomplished that. Furthermore we have a nomination in Best Short Feature with On My Mind and in Best Cinematography, with Dan Lausten for Nightmare Alley. I do believe that is the most nominations we have ever had. The icing on the cake: Jacob Trier who directed The Worst Person in the World is half Danish. As a film buff and working in the cinematic archive world I can say I am so chuffed today :).
I hope Kristen Stewart wins the Best Actress Oscar. Olivia, Penelope and Nicole already have one. I choose Kristen over Jessica but I will be happy with either of them win over the others.
Might happen, it worked out for Adrian Brody winning Best Actor in a category with four previous winners. But Spencer is the films sole nomination, and lack of love leading up to this nomination may hinder her chances. Sweeping the critics awards doesn't always work out, ask Julianne Moore the year she was nominated for Far From Heaven. And that was a year she was a double nominee.
@@richierich7229 I wouldn't say frontrunner, no. There was certainly talk of course, but nothing was certain for Brody or it winning Best Director. Director had Rob Marshall and Scorsese duking it out, and Nicholson and Day-Lewis were seen as more frontrunners going in. The reason Brody got the standing ovation because it was seen as kind of a surprise victory. Plus he smooched Halle Berry, haha.
I just wanna stress that I dont think Spielberg took Villeneuve´s nomination. 1. Campion´s the frontrunner 2.Licorice Pizza was a lock for original screenplay and got rave reviews 3.Spielberg is the most famous director in the world and West Side Story also got good reviews despite failing at the box office. 4.We have seen many foreign language directors get nominated, so Hamaguchi was locked in Which leaves Branagh.Belfast lost a lot of steam in Supporting actor and other categories, so it was he who robbed Denis. Spielberg was a lock all along

I'm actually putting her at 5 Mainly because while she is good , the movie is horrendous .So not really shocked me she wasn't nominated . (Another reason why is HOG is first screened for academy voter and it seem like , they hate it) .
Well, it’s not their fault. Gaga got a BAFTA, SAG, GG and Critics Choice nomination as the only one. It was also pretty obvious when even the critics started putting Gaga as the front runner. Why are you irritated by the fact that they were confident about her nomination? I mean OF COURSE they were
@@AdrianWillis Yeah yeah, but for now have to admit that there were other performances that were simply better than her in a far better movie than House of Gucci
My claim to fame will always be that I got Jessie Buckley on 100/1 odds at the very start of the season, like around Globes time, and dared to stick to my gut feeling the entire time. It payed off
Really hoped to see Peter Dinklage nominated for "Cyrano." The actress lineup is quite stellar, and I honestly believe Colman is going to win her second Oscar. The fact that Jesse Buckley was nominated indicates the Academy really liked "The Lost Daughter."
@@joser1853 actually considering Renee Zellweger got the only Oscar award for Judy which was also a very flawed biopic...maybe Kristen Stewart has a chance? The Oscars are partial towards strong performances in biopics even if those biopics are flawed and convoluted with poor execution to some degree.
@@nikitamohanan2124 This. Could happen. I think if Kidman wins another precursor then it might be a done deal. If she loses CC, SAG and Bafta, we might have a race. For the sake of being at the edge of our seats let's pray that happens.
Been waiting for this since this morning! So many crazy surprises! You guys didn’t disappoint in your reaction! The Villeneuve snub still makes no sense to me
I don't get how Judi Dench got nominated, it's like they didn't watch the film. It could be either Catriona Balfe or Ruth Negga - who gave my favourite performance of the year, just flawless
Doesn’t it kind of feel like the snubs have propelled “The Power Of The Dog “ to win in an almost premeditated way? “Belfast” misses cinematography and editing. “Licorice Pizza” misses all acting and editing. “Dune” misses Director. “Don’t Look Up” misses all acting and Director. Just an odd coincidence.
@@evelynoliveira9447 Denial is a very powerful thing my friend. They were denying it when the critics were all giving it EVERYTHING. That was a bit understandable. Then they were denying it when The Globes gave it Best Supporting Actor, Director AND Picture. That was not as understandable but OK, but NOW... HOW??????? I just don't understand why would someone still think for one second that any of these other films that were snubbed in such major categories are gonna reach Power Of The Dog that has EVERYTHING it needs to win and literally MORE. It's happening. There's nothing stopping it now. Nothing.
@@parsashojaei1352 True, it’s up to PGA tho. I’m fairly confident Campion wins DGA, I think Kodi will take SAG because the film got 3 noms there, clearly they liked the film and the industry will most likely give it the obvious. Critics Choice is going to be a Power of the Dog SWEEP. BAFTA is the weird place, and idk what they’ll do.
@@kevinkongtorres1654 I agree with you. The film will do well at Sag, winning for Smit-Mcphee. Critics Choice is an easy SWEEP and also DGA is definitely going to Campion. But seriously!!! I don't think The Baftas could do ANYTHING to change this. I mean even them have snubbed Belfast quite a lot. Even if that film wins Best film there, which I don't think will happen, The Oscar nominations simply have made it impossible for it to win. It has no editing and cinematography nominations. Do you think they would snub it for those ESPECIALLY editing, if they were gonna give it picture? No film has won best picture without having been nominated in editing. I keep writing this everywhere because everyone has literally forgotten it!! This is a rule! Only birdman has been an exception and just because that film had no editing. Belfast cannot win best picture even if it does so well at The Baftas which I don't think is that likely. It's gonna be a 1917, Parasite situation, even if it does so well. The Power Of The Dog is the only contender now that has Cinematography, Editing, Screenplay and Director. Also 4 acting nominations? Are you kidding? I'm calling it now because it has no other competition. It seems so over.
@@parsashojaei1352 Yeah, BAFTAS seem kind of worthless this year too, the winner for Best Actress won’t even matter there. I think everyone is just skeptical of PGA that’s all, and I get that, but I do see some people underestimating Power of the Dog’s love in the industry, you don’t get 4 ACTING NOMS!! For nothing lol, I’m seeing a lot people saying that the industry probably respects it but they think its boring, it seems like they’re putting their own prejudices towards the film tho. Also, people saying that it’s a weird winner, guess what the last two winners were also weird, we have to appreciate that the Academy is breaking their mold, Drive My Car would have not been nominated 10 years ago, that’s the unfortunate truth.
@@15Candles yeah While i do have her in my prediction I think she is actually the vulnerable one as if we look at the Best Actress nom , The Eyes Of Tammy Faye , The Lost Daughter , Parallel Mothers , and Spencer has a pretty strong review and love from the critics . Being The Ricardos get mixed to positive review so ot was still in a pretty fine position and i believed this is why Chastain , Cruz , Colman , Kidman , and Stewart gets in . Gaga , while she did delivered a strong perfomance as a woman who is blinded by glamour lifestyle , the problem was the movie itself . It was like a disaster on a plate that even Gaga's amazing perfomance isn't enough . Plus because HOG get a lot of negative review , i highly suspected that when it was first screened at the Academy Museum to Academy Voter , they hate it .
As soon as I saw the Oscar nominations, I thought: "The Oscar Expert's reaction video is gonna be pure comedy gold! Better than their reaction video from last year." I still can't get over Lady Gaga's snub 😣 The biggest Oscars snub since Ben Affleck (Best Director) for "Argo". I would have bet all of my savings on Gaga getting nominated. It's a good job I didn't though 😅
Couldn’t wait for you guys to recap these nominations I’m watching Spencer tonight on Hulu Super happy for King Richard 6 nominations Love that Coda got recognized
@@Jeannine_9 i'm actually really happy that Encanto and Flee both get 3 nominations . Super happy Nightmare Alley get a lot of love (Tho when it get BP nom , i was a lil bit shocked since i put Macbeth instead NA) I am super pissed how they ignored TFD like seriously How the crap Spencer only got 1 nomination ALANA HAIM OR LADY GAGA WAS SNUBBED HARD
exactly, like did the Academy consider the parents as lead? or like even if the studio pushed them as suppporting, probably the Academy still considered them as lead, it's is the right thing to do but why never do it before? I mean Viola Davis and Daniel Kaluuya won best supporting for leading roles, anyways poeple are upset about the gaga snub but the real snub was Caitriona Balfe
great predictions but NEVER COUNT the powers of Diane Warren and Nightmare Alley. I knew Kristen Stewart would get it, never doubted it for s second despite missing SAG and BAFTA. After all, she's the most critically acclaimed actress of the year. Also, never underestimate the power of a Dame, I kinda felt it coming through because they like to do stuff like that but I'd agree that I'd trade her position for Caitriona Balfe but there is it. I feel sorry for Gaga though, it's a tough year for the lead and supporting actress categories but at least it's Penelope Cruz not JHud who got in.
You guys got the best reacting videos, i never thought that i would wait to see someone's reaction to something, i really hope you get more subs you deserve it
So pissed about Denis Villeneuve getting snubbed. Overall a very weak best picture category but at least nightmare alley got in over tick tick boom and being the ricardos
Let’s be real, they will reward Villeneuve for Part 2. From what I got from the first one, the second is lining up to be his crowning visual spectacle. I’m also pulling so hard for Dos Oruguitas. Lin deserves his EGOT. I wonder if they will make it some sort of all encompassing performance of the whole soundtrack, seeing the popularity of that album/the songs. And Spencer is the best thriller of the year.
VILLENAUVE WILL GET HIS REVENGE . JUST WAIT . If only they submit WDTAB , Lin would have won . But again , i enjoyed "Dos Oruguitas" . And HOW THE HELL SPENCER ONLY GET 1 NOMINATION
Been waiting for this :) So many surprises! A lot of people were counting it out but WSS did well - They got Best film, director, supporting actress, production design, cinematography, sound & costumes - pretty much everything they were considered for except adapted screenplay (which isn't shocking as it's a musical) and editing (which was stupid it missed there). And congratulations to Bhutan for it's first film nomination!
I actually might have a reason as to why Judi Dench got in. It might because she is 87 years old now, so maybe the academy was thinking that this could be the last time that they could nominate her. But other than that, there’s no other reason why she got in over Caitorina
Dude, many people literally screamed when Kristen's name show up. Not many people were expecting it, she was snub at the SAG and BAFTA that might've tanked her Oscar potential, and wow she made it through surprisingly
We couldn't have asked for a more shocking Oscar nomination announcement than this. While Kristen Stewart getting nominated (despite all those mishaps at SAG and BAFTA) was the best part of the announcement - she deserved it over Gaga definitely, she was there ever since Spencer came out, Cruz took Gaga's spot and I don't mind that. Villeneuve missing out on directing was sad and shows how vulnerable that film might be actually.
Penelope rightfully took Gaga's spot and anyone complaining this, shut up and watch Parallel Mothers. Imo, the reason why Penelope took Gaga's spot is because of the movie's quality. Parallel Mothers is a 10 times better movie than House of Gucci as whole, that's why Penelope got in and having her winning Venice Volpi Cup, is another reason why she made it through. Gaga was fine in the role but everything surrounds her in the movie was just an absolute mess that really tanked her Oscar potential. Penelope and Kristen deserved it, for Gaga, pick better scripts next time.....
If Power of the Dog got over 50% then it wins automatically for BP. But if not then I dont think itll win. Ppl either loved it or hated it. If its not ppls first choice I dont think itll be their 2nd or 3rd. If it didnt get the 50% I actually like Dunes odds as a popular choice a lot of ppl could have at 2nd or 3rd on their list.
Ciarán Hinds is magnificent in Belfast . A flawless performance that seems effortless . He would make a worthy winner of the Oscar for best supporting actor.
the last time none of the lead actress's films were nominated for best picture was the year 2006 when Reese, Felicity H, Charlize, Dench and Keira K were nominated.
