I don't hate anybody in my life as much as BAFTA hates Denzel Washington. 2 Oscars, 9 Oscar nominations and zero BAFTA nominations I mean what the hell
@@juniors5811 it wasn’t his best though at all. What he did in don’t look up is so basic compared to Andrew Garfield literally doing a musical despite not having any singing experience
So happy for Mike Faist in West Side Story, Alana Haim in Licorice Pizza, and Emilia Jones in CODA. I don’t know why Kristen hasn’t been getting enough votes. My only theory is I think voters are turned off by a highly fictional account of Princess Diana that’s more psychological horror/drama than prestige biopic. There’s no doubt she gave one of the best performances but I think the film itself has impacted her chances.
"But we don't know exactly what kind of chaos to expect" You know right off the bat this reaction is gonna be more explosive than a hundred C-4 charges.
Kidman not getting in doesn't concern me. BAFTA's seem lukewarm on her, despite her winning for The Hours. (Though to their credit they did nominate her for To Die For). She wasn't nominated for Moulin Rouge or Rabbit Hole, though she appears a hell of a lot more popular with the folks there than poor Denzel Washington, who has never received a nomination for any of his performances. SAG will let us know if Kidman is the frontrunner or not, a majority of the BAFTA nominees are names we won't hear next week when the Oscar nominations are announced. Sadly in so many cases, I really dig the nominations here but don't think it'll translation into anything more.
I mean, she's not going to win the Oscar without international support, in a year where the international voting bloc matters more than ever. She should have at least been nominated today but the fact that she wasn't in the top 2 vote getters could mean that her international support is thin. At this point, if Gaga takes the BAFTA, even if Kidman takes the SAG, Gaga is going to take the Oscar.
I told y'all, lady gaga is the frontrunner since the beginning. she's the only leading actress to be nominated for the BAFTAs, SAG, Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globes this year ! I am beyond proud and happy she deserves all the best. can't wait for the Oscar nominations and the award ceremonies to start.
she was mediocre, the only people hypin' her up are little monsters. "but she's a frontrunner" well if your studio can get you votes, then yes i guess she's a frontrunner, but that's about it, so many good performances and the one that's so average is getting nominations. upsetting.
You need to turn up the audio on the nomination video. I had to rewind over and over to understand who was nominated. Or put some damn subtitles stating the nominees. I love you guys but this tried my patience at this late hour of the night. 😕
Really surprised by some of the snubs for West Side Story but happy with the surprise of Mike Faist getting a nod for supporting actor! Also do NOT understand how they clearly loved Power of the Dog (film, director, screenplay, etc), and nominated all 3 male actors, but they snubbed Kirsten Dunst?
@@kassiogomes8498 I want Barbra Streisand to reunite with Jon Peters at the Oscars solely to present PTA that Best Original Screenplay 2021 statuette. :b
Imagine listening to the track Crucifix (Jonny Greenwood, Spencer) and saying yeah I think Being the Ricardos is better. Jesus. Happy that there are two French women nominated for best director and that Petite Mamam was nominated!
Honestly, I remember more of Pemberton’s score throughout the film, whereas Greenwood’s _Spencer_ score I mostly remember just “Arrival”, “Crucifix”, and “New Currency”.
BAFTA sucks for snubbing Stewart. It's an excellent performance and film that will stand the test of time. Haters gonna hate. Is Best Actress a fuckfest every year now? So Gaga is the only one who got in everywhere so far which makes all other slots up in the air. I predict Renate Reinsve to get in at the Oscars.
@@nikkiarouss7869 She got the same kind of attention for A Star is Born. Globes, SAG, BAFTA, and an Oscar nod and still lost Best Actress across the board. Of course they had a backup in awarding her Best Song, so, who knows. A SAG win will indicate where she is with the race if that happens.
That movie was a mess. It was trying too hard to be some psycho drama when people were just looking for a Jackie or The Queen. I was thoroughly unimpressed and was so happy when it was over.
And now the Oscars, the Best Actress nominee be like "please see Signora Lady Gaga out my house" 😂😂😂 lol I'm just laughing that she didn't made it to the Oscars
@@seductive2333 noooo, The Academy did the right thing. Gaga wasn't snubbed, there were other performances that were simply better. Gaga should sit down and watch the better performances To quote from the movie "It's time to take out the trash" yep that's right The Academy listens, Gaga is out, Nicole Kidman, Jessica Chastain, Penelope Cruz, Olivia Colman, and Kristen Stewart are IN 🙌🙌🙌🙌😂 Cry harder kiddo, never been in my entire life so happy that people's prediction are wrong as hell about the Oscars 😂😂😂😂
I'm not saying that House of Gucci was a great film, but Gaga very clearly put the work in and delivered an excellent performance, there's no denying that
says the totally not-biased gaga obsessed stan.. lmao. she's being wafted around as bait to encourage her fans to watch these award shows - that's it. the film was a turd. her performance is not even close to top 10 of the year.
lol people kept underestimating gagas performance only for it to backfire so bad, she is now the only leading actress to receive BAFTA, Golden Globe, SAG Awards and Critics Choice nominations this year. truly the queen
@@internetguts yeah yeah whatever, the other nominees did better than Gaga eventhough she's fine. Lol, sometimes you just need to set your expectations low too 😂
Dune getting 11 technical nods and Denis Villeneuve who dreamed, architected and executed this vision getting snubbed for directing due to the Bafta jury system is kind of messed up! I thought he's the 2nd favorite behind Campion 🤔
He should be THE favorite. The degree of difficulty in executing Dune FAR exceeds Campion's film, when considering the source materials. Also, he elevated the story-telling from its source, while Jane's version was a diluted from the original novel. Villeneuve proves his greatness every time, but I think he actually surpassed expectations with Dune.
@@reeldeal3227 totally agree on the great job Denis and team did on adapting the source material, and actually staying true to Herbert's message. He's #1 on my personal list. I might nitpick here and there on needing to make certain things more important, but given he's hopefully planning to do 3 movies, then certain world building aspects, character development can be delayed. I've not seen the Power of the Dog nor read the source material, so can't give a personal opinion, other than what I observed during the awards season. Glad you shared yours, and makes me wonder if Campion actually meant to deviate somewhat from the source.
I’d been waiting for this the moment the nominees were announced. Stewart snub didn’t surprise me, but that category was a surprise. The Colman snub did surprise me though. Great for Anne Dowd. I also loved CODA so pleased for Emilia Jones. I think the my biggest disappointment was Andrew Garfield. I’m starting to wonder if TTB falls out of Best Picture now.
Considering there’s a definitive ten nominees this year, I think it can still do it. At the very least, Picture, Actor, and Adapted Screenplay (the latter due to the WGA nomination).
It's so apparent the award shows are being petty over Kristen saying she doesn't give a sh*t about awards. Actually proving her point that they're rigged af.
George C. Scott did the same thing as Kristen, even more fouler in tone calling it "a goddamn meat parade. I don't want any part of it" - and not only did he get nominated but also won.
@@jeremyvalore71 It's very offensive to Princess Diana's life and legacy. If you want to watch a great Diana Movie/Series go and watch The Crown. Emma Corrin is the best Diana. Not Kristen Stewart.
@@alucard00774 you can’t blame kristen Stewart and call her performance offensive when she’s just acting and reading a script that was given to her… she gave it her all and was phenomenal and easily the best performance by an actress this year.
Best Actress category is FUCKED!!! I don't see Kristen Stewart getting nominated now. I'd still go with 4 of the 5 SAG nominees. Is the 5th slot now Alana Haim?? Or does the expanded academy/foreign contingent give us a surprise nominee like Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person In The World) who was BAFTA nominated or Penelope Cruz (Parallel Mothers)? With the number of nominations here I'd say The Power Of The Dog is the BP front runner now.
Call it a conspiracy theory but think of the scenario: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be at the ceremony. Now if Spencer were nominated for any awards, they will hear about it, and certainly if it won any award, the camera would pan to their faces. So better not to nominate it for anything to avoid the embarrassment. Even though the arthouse horror-fantasy film is where Kirsten Stewart gave the performance of her career.
2:45 "SHHH it's really early shut the fuck up you can't do that" 😭😭😭💀 Brother Bro realizing they're being a bit too loud amidst the chaos I'm surprised Lady Gaga was nominated but none of the other popular top fives, though not disappointed. House of Gucci was a big mess but I love it and had a blast watching it LMAO. Definitely think she'll get the award unless the Baftas decide to do a twist and give it to someone else. Power of the Dog was amazing and I hope Jane Campion gets Director
The plot thickens in the race between Being The Ricardos and Drive My Car for the 10th Best Picture slot. BTR couldn't even snag Nicole Kidman in the top two of Best Actress here, and DMC overperformed by getting that Screenplay nomination (voted by the entire voting body).
If there was passion for Olivia Colman's performance, she would've been top 2 at bafta. The only reason she's been getting nominations up until the baftas is cuz everyone loves her, so do I, but I never for a second thought she would win her 2nd oscar that soon for that role. She'll easily bag another oscar, but not this soon for a movie that a lot of people either didn't watch or didn't like. The only thing we learn from this Best Actress line up is that Lady Gaga shouldn't be underestimated, she could win it all and that Haim could possibly make top 5 at the Oscars. Kidman should've been top 2 too, but if she wins SAG she can still win the oscar. I won't be surprised if Colman misses Oscar nomination to be honest. Gaga and Kidman - locks. Then it's all up in the air, but I feel like Chastain will be rewarded with a nom. Then anything can happen.
If HoG gets in best picture, even if Being the Ricardos makes it in as well, then it's Gaga's Oscar. She will have Sandra Bullock'd that film to a best picture nom.
@@ad-sd-vids5332 first off, that's not even a remotely clever insult. Second, even if it doesn't get the nom, Gaga can still win. So learn to deal with that. But IF it does get the Blind Side treatment, she wins. Hands down.
Expect lots of curveballs at the Oscars nods this year to go with everything else. And I'm glad Spencer was snubbed but Mike Faist was finally recognized for West Side Story. Also, if you look at the history behind the original WSS, it was almost ignored completely by BAFTA in '62, so no surprise really with Best Picture and Director
Eh. Not quite the same thing. The original only received one nom but it was ineligible the year it won the Oscars. So that can easily be seen as them viewing WSS as being honored enough. Plus that was Lawrence of Arabia year as well.
I'm a 100% sure that Hamaguchi is getting Director and one of Branagh and Spielberg isn't. I lean more towards Spielberg because Belfast did fairly well in here.
@@Denis-89 Not for me. I find it surprising that Gaga is now the frontrunner because I don't think her movie or performance are good. IMO Kidman is much better than her.
I honestly don’t see why everyone is so shocked about ‘Spencer’ and Kristen Stewart getting snubbed. Prince William is literally the president of BAFTA, this outcome was obvious from the beginning.
This is what I've been saying. I love these guys to pieces but I never understood why they were so convinced that she was always in. Before the SAG snub, the one award I saw her as vulnerable in was here.
Even Emma Corrin hasn't got a single BAFTA nomination for her work as Diana in The Crown, I'm not surprised by this at all. I just hope the Oscars doesn't do the same, she deserves it, most people in Hollywood love her performance, her celebrity friends have praised her performance a lot so getting snubbed at the Academy would totally be a crime
It’s also a weird thing that the film manages to show both the Royals and to some extent Diana in a bad light, so imagine people who like either one might not have liked it / wanted to recognise it. I didn’t really enjoy it, but certainly could see she deserved nominations.
@@rae0993 Exactly! If anything i’m more shocked Olivia didn’t get nominated. She hasn’t been the front-runner for the Oscars by any means, but a day ago i would’ve easily said she’s top 2 in the running for the BAFTA. The BAFTA win truly proved to be a turning point for Olivia in 2019, and I expected this to be a repeat of that. I still think both Olivia and Kristen will get Oscar nominations, but neither are genuinely in the running at this point.
I jumped from happiness for Gaga. Since Critics and BAFTAS are on the same day, if I were her I'd go to the BAFTAS, less competition there 😁 I'm sad Jared Leto didn't get in, but Leo did, it's all balanced 😄
@@maryvallettakeith6146 the accents, from everyone in that film, were done on purpose. It's the campy tone style of the movie. If you didn't vibe with it, sorry 🤷♀️
@@dandougherty3329 yeah but people wanted her to win an Oscar so bad for House of Gucci anyways. Wanting her second Oscar after her nominations in other award shows. We're not talking about her award past 😂😂😂 God bless The Academy for shutting her out
Who knows whats going to happen at the Oscars but Gaga being a sure spot at the Oscars doesnt make her performance better than Joanna's, Tessa's and Renate's. Gaga proving her value its great but i'm rooting for Joanna Scanlan
Wow I guess the changes in t'he voting process they made are indeed showing up in the noms. The Baftas used to always Go for english actors (even when they were snubbed by usa awards) But this year they passed on great performances by Olivia Colman, Andrew Garfield and Jodie Comer.
@@vickster5001 Definitely, Will Smith being a jury pick isn’t so far fetched when you realize that King Richard made it in casting and that was a 100% jury voted category.
The Brits didn't like that Diana was presented raw in all her pain. I guess it doesn't fit into the British narrative of the way they see Princess Diana. Plus Kristen Stewart doesn't play Hollywood's games. DUDE!!! Freakin!!! Prince William is the chairman of the BAFTAs!!! COME ON!!
