Congratulations! I think you made the right call on brands. There's really a lot of value there when you add it all up... i.e. fan, map switch, not to mention FMF Gold pipe, KYB suspension, etc. are all aftermarket "power parts" with the Euro bikes. Funny about the suspension breaking in... This is true, although I did not know that anyone else had this issue. My fork kicked me badly the first few times it encountered solid objects. It's buttery now!
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 2 года назад
Thanks, I do feel we made the right call as TM is still such a new brand here that the parts availability and support might not be 100% yet. Great to hear about the suspension, the 250 is working great now but mine is still a bit firm... but definitely loosening up.

So glad you chose the Sherco and am looking forward to hearing your 'expert' opinions, I have a 2022 se300 Factory, the suspension did take a few rides to bed in, I softened the compression at first which made it more comfortable and then firmed it back up to standard, just love how the front stays up and doesn't dive in corners. Fantastic bike all round and great value.
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 2 года назад
That's good news, Dan. Yeah the dealer said to back off the compression a few clicks. The 250 forks have settled in nicely after three rides... mine still feel a bit too firm but apparently the next step is take 30ml of fork oil out of each leg. The forks are amazing once you ride harder. Just a bit too firm on the slow stuff still.

I have 30 hours on my 2022 Sherco 300 SE and am also impressed. Previous 500 hours were on a 2017 KTM 300 XC-W which also is an excellent machine. To lighten clutch pull on Sherco I installed Midwest Engineering lever and replaced 3 clutch springs with KTM 125 springs that my dealer recommended. Springs worked great at lightening without any slip. Combination of both has clutch pull superb. Cheers!

Yesterday I attended my first ever enduro practice (with my DRZ 😅) and I just want to thank you for the inspiration to do it. Been watching your enduro videos for a long time. Man it was hard! I also got to test ride a Gasgas 300 two stroke. First time I ride a two stroke, what a crazy difference that was in power and weight. Perhaps you've already made one, but if not, I would love a video that covers what to expect with a two stroke when it comes to maintenance. Not what it says in the manual in terms of when and what, but what to realistically expect. That would be very useful to someone who's never had any experience with two strokes and performance oriented enduros in general.

Loose the bar risers. I also used to think risers would bring the bars up and easier to ride. Turns out, they bring the bars up and back, making the bike feel more cramped. With your height, try offset bar mounts, mounted forward, and roll your bars 1 mark forward (ends roll upwards towards front). This will open up your stance, and give you a better geometry in the attack position.
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 2 года назад
Yes, but we moved the bolts to the forward position on the triple clamps which offsets this, Jess... and rolled the bars slightly forward.

Very nice choice. I also preferred the 250 over the 300. Which was a surprise to me aswell because I always swore by the ktm 300s before. I'm on the shorter side and actually grew to like the stock bar height. Stock KTM felt like it had ape hangers afterwards. The fuel tap is in a odd spot but your chances of damaging it are very slim. Small price to pay for something you only use twice per ride in general. Actually applied for a job at Toowoomba before immigrating to Canada.

I have the exact same bike! If you’re a lighter rider that does hard enduro, a suspension revalve makes a pretty big difference for riding. And depending on pricing, in my country the difference between the racing and factory model is about 700 euro. When you factor in just the fan kit which is essential in tight terrain, I think the factory is worth every penny.
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 2 года назад
Yes, I reckon a lighter rider would find the Factory suspension a bit stiff unless they were very agressive riders. I've done three rides now and the forks have softened quite a bit. I'd like to see them just a bit more plush.... owners are telling me I can take out 30ml of fork oil from each leg which softens things up well.

Good hack for the battery is to add extension leads under your seat so if you have to jump start it’s easier off another bike, of course good to carry at least one jump pack in your ride group too. Fuel tap is ok for those of us with small hands, can’t get knocked but is annoying ! I’ve just gone from the 125 to the 250 and love it, other 1/2 also on a 250 hes more an aggressive style rider so wasn’t sure how that 300 power will go, but will likely go 300 next.. nothing the 250 hasn’t been able to do though. Great bikes to sell at around 150 hours. All the moving parts in the power valve will need to be replaced. All the starter parts will also be pooched and you will be left to pick up the crumbs from your croissant crushers. I have had both the standard model and the race model pre KYB. I expect they are much better handling with the KYB. Like the GasGas/Rieju bikes ( I also hove one of those), I feel the long term reliability is suspect at best. Foe the money they need to do a lot better on quality.
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 2 года назад
I figured the power valve and starter motor would need a good service at some point for reliability... I haven't priced the parts as yet. The KYB is good but definitely set up for aggressive riding. I have steadily backed off the compression damping to zero to try and soften it up for our style of riding. It's not as plush as Yamaha's SSS version of the KYB forks.

I would love to see an adjustable shock system that would allow us to make adjustments on the trail as desired, electronically or via cables. Also adjustable valves, I don't know about Sherco, Beta etc, but Yamaha and Honda after 900 years of putting out great bikes still requires shims. This is 2022 AD not BC. lol Edit: I don't mind the added weight of a cable, electronic pack or grub screw. I realize it can't be done, and they're really dumb ideas to be able to make suspension adjustments on the fly, and adjust valves in 5 mins instead of over an hour, but I wouldn't mind the extra cost nor weight, I would love it.
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 2 года назад

From an engineering point of view, shims are the lightest and most reliable way to maintain valve clearance. On an old low rpm air cooled motor grub screw adjusters were a simple solution, however the modern 4 stroke engine on a dirt bike can reliably rev to 13,000rom in some models. This those valves are opening and closing 108 times a second..... any reduction in weight is vital to make sure they're reliable. On the suspension, all bikes are trail side adjustable, you just need a screwdriver. Having a motor and cable plus associated wiring is just added weight and complexity
