I was going to buy an Ascent for camping and dog sport events. Then I discovered that you cannot leave the backdoor open, even with all the lights shut off. Leaving the door open drains the battery. My dealership's solution is to unplug the battery . . . So every time I'm at a practice or perhaps working on an outdoor project and need the back door open, I have to disconnect my battery. I guess if you don't actually have an outdoor lifestyle, not a big deal. But weird that subaru would design a car this way.

The physical hard buttons are waaaaaaay better than the bigger screen. I have a 2022 Outback Wilderness and LOVE IT! That being said, the physical buttons are much preferable over the big tech screen.👍🏼

I just got out of my 2020 Outback and in to a 2022 Ascent for this reason. I knew I needed to jump on it because I love the set up in the current model and was disappointed that they’re losing all of the buttons and the center screen on top of the dash with the 23 refresh. My partner loved it so much he ditched his 2018 Outback for a 2020 Ascent just to retain the buttons and knobs.

The inside feels nostalgic. There’s a touch of 2000s there with modern tech. Particularly with that CD player in there. Great car.

Agreed. They should have at least offered a 6 speed auto from their BRZ. And since it’s a Subaru, it looks they should have offered a 6 speed manual at least in the base model to Onyx trim since it has a 4 cylinder.

This video is awesome. You guys did a great job. I traded my 2019 fully loaded BMW x3 for a 2021 Subaru Ascent touring... I have never loved a car like I love this one. It is very comfortable to drive, handles great, super soft leather seats, lots of space, fits 4 adults in the back comfortably.. 792 watt hk stereo is excellent.. love love love my Subaru!!!

Love my 2020 Ascent Limited! Mine is the 8-passenger and I skipped the tech/sunroof package. Saved quite a bit for the money compared to the competition!

I prefer to see to higher trims. It's easier to pick a part of what features it has compares to the competition. And it's pleasantly nice to look at than a base model with cloth seats and tiny infotainment screen aka "poverty" spec ..Drew and Mason does go into details on what the base, mid, and higher trims offer.

I agree. Most of these reviews are more about the bells and whistles that might be nice, but aren't really in everyone's budget.

I like the infotainment of the Ascent. The Outback looks like a giant IPad and I don't want all that glare and fingerprints.

I bought a 2021 Touring during the chip shortage. It’s a simple vehicle with nothing fancy, which is what I prefer over the full touch screen interfaces. It does really well in crapp conditions and is my daily vehicle. I wish it had more power, but we know cvt has limitations. At the end of the day, the family and 2 large dogs are happy.

Did you guys do a decibel reading on the ascent? I am comparing this Touring to the 2022 MDX. To get all the nice accessories like heated steering wheel, fog lights, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and others, I would need the MDX Advance. The burning question - is the $14K worth it for the more luxury look and feel of the MDX? Absolutely LOVE your reviews, best I have seen on youtube and I have seen too many...Subscribed!

Thanks! I think it was this vehicle we were having technical difficulties with getting the sound level reading, but you can always check out last year's review as nothing has changed in that regard. Good luck with your decision!

2019 touring. Head gasket and wated pump failure at 55k. MO EY PIT. SOA will not help you despite dealer maintenance!

No matter how big or small the vehicles the front seats are all small and the front column takes all the extra space.....very annoying.

I had an ascent 2021 as a loaner from dealer while my VW was repaired. The auto steer correct nearly killed us. When avoiding huge potholes in the road the car took over and nearly put us into a concrete building. Scary scary stuff. A car that steers should not be allowed.

I have a 2021 Ascent and never had auto-steer. Not sure what mode you were in but we love ours.

Turn that feature off lol I only use the lane assist & the anti collision. However when my husband drives, I turn all those functions off because once he got too close to a car that was turning, and the Ascent braked HARD for him. It was scary! So now we turn off the anti collision and lane assist. Never use that steering wheel function; hate it all around.

All the 2021+ Subaru Ascents have LED headlights, even the base! I also believe all the trims have adaptive & auto high beams too. This is a great car for a family, I hope I helped! :)

@@br6480 luxury brands you can usually add individual features such as heated seats ($500) and heated steering wheel ($300)… I did this with my 2018 3 series. Verses a toyota/ford/ ect. you have to get a certain package in order to get that one feature you want . People driving 50k tellurides are nuts haha. Ill take a no option beamer any day.

You're joking if you think you can get a 7 or 8 seater BMW anywhere near the price of an Ascent, let alone the trop trim Ascent. The cheapest BMW (the X5) that allows 7 seats starts at $60k USD.

My local dealer said Subaru did away with the v6 and focused in 4 cylinder with turbo. Only reason I will not trade in my 2018 outback 3.6

@@jraheemjefcoat429 actually comparing this to a Chevy Traverse. The Traverse is even worse than the Accent. Yes it has a regular V6 and a automatic, but everything else about it sucks. Their interior feels so pathetically plastically cheap for a brand new car especially for an SUV that is only 4 years old. And not only it’s the worlds worst 3 row SUV, it’s also the most unreliable compared to the rivals like this.

@@jraheemjefcoat429 The difference is that the Ascent will always get you from point A to point B no matter the weather or terrain. Can't say that about basically any of the competition. It's also the safest out of all of them and I believe cheapest or one of the cheapest.

@@brianlawrence684 When it fails it's VERY expensive, more than any other car/truck I've ever heard of. I have a 2014 outback that had a CVT failure past warranty and it's a soul-crushing price!

Short of the BRZ, the ascent is pretty much the only attractive Subaru. The forester, Impreza and Outback are wagons or look too similarly to wagons and are relics from yesteryear. No one wants wagons. The BRZ and Ascent are the only choices for the overwhelming majority of Americans that are looking for a normal SUV or sports car.

I think the Ascent is a beautiful vehicle especially green with the Java brown interior. Thanks for the in depth review of the touring. I’m purchasing a 2022 and it’s January 2024.
