Having to add safety and noise insulation. Air bags and lots of insulation. You ever drove a early 2000s Japanese sports sedan. You'll get used to it but I got out of the accord SiR to a new accord sport and man its quiet and so smooth and feels weird. I'm so used to having cross winds blow the car around and the old cars weigh nothing. You can't recreate that today.

I don’t think anyone in this comment section even realised these cars aren’t even broken into yet… the cvt had about 650km in it only… to have a concrete test result, the car should be well past 2000km or even 5000km (fully broken into) to get an accurate result.

So to sum it up, there is no performance in the “SPT” Subaru desperately needs a DCT option, 30 more hp, and Brembos if it wants to be competitive in this market.
@MKu64
@MKu64 2 года назад
With or without the DCT, it's been seemingly slower and slower over the years both in real world performance and more importantly (to me personally) the seat of the pants feeling. It used to outclass most normal things on the road when I was younger - a true performance beast and if nothing else, a seat of the pants monster due to the laggy (fun) turbo feel. Now it's just on par with regular model sedans. The Manual is getting mid 6 with a clutch dump... which performance wise, is totally fine.... but without that extreme take off, it's clearly doing mid 7's as per the auto... which is more than dissapointing for a 'performance flagship' (which yes, that's what this kind of is now considering no STi). If it looked amazing but had that performance.. then ok... OR, if it had better performance and looked like it does, then maybe ok. But with mediocre performance and the looks they've given it.. it's a big NO for me.
@LJ-mp7ir
@LJ-mp7ir 2 года назад
@@MKu64 i feel the same way, but given the present car market. My wife and I needed something fun with good resale value that we could buy without an insane markup. I will say this, the 2022 with its larger displacement and better stock tuning is a lot smoother and easier to drive than the previous generations. Subaru disappointed everyone by not releasing the STI, but they had decided to not release it before the last minute announcement back in march. There was never any spy shots of the new STI in testing, no engine details, no pictures. The lame GT with its CVT for close to 50k would not have been made if they ever intended to release an STI.

I was surprised that the time was late! I bought a WRX wagon (Japanese name LEVORG STI SPORT R EX) in Japan this year. The data of 0-100km / h has not been published in Japan, so it was very helpful. The engine specs of the Japanese WRX are 202kw (275ps), 375Nm, and the specs seem to be a little better. In addition, the mission carries a new CVT called Subaru Performance Transmission. The damper is an electronically controlled damper made by ZF. I am worried about the difference from the Australian specifications. But the 0-100km time may not change much for the Japanese version.

As a Subaru enthusiast this was painful to watch. Great review and production. But man that wrx is slow. Definately won't stand a chance against the new civic type r even. To think 10-15 years ago if you would have said the civic would be a good competitor against the wrx/sti you would have been laughed at. Well with Subaru not even coming out with an STI its clear that they couldn't give two fucks about the subaru enthusiasts anymore. What a shame. Was once such a legendary name.

The WRX needs to compete with the Golf R not the GTI, and the STi needs to compete with the A45 AMG or AMG 45s or thereabouts, why Subaru is competing with the GTI is beyond me, it’s not even in the same class for it to be a direct competitor, and Subaru’s excuse for not giving the WRX any significant power increase over the previous generations because it’s competitors have kept there power the same is such a stupid excuse. This car use to be V8 killer, a track weapon, a cornering monster, it use to eat the ground & it was kids dream car in the late 90s & early 00s. What has Subaru done to this once great icon. The power hasn’t changed in over 25 years, every new generation adds barely a few extra kw over the last gen that follows it, 5kw & 0nm from a larger displacement engine is simply embarrasing & a joke to say the least when you have cars like the GR Yaris pumping out 200kw out of a 1.6 3cyl turbo, the Hyundai i30 N sedan, the Sonata N Line, Golf R mk8, AMG A class, even the oldschool WRX’s & STi’s would annihilate this car, when people buy a WRX they want raw power, a fun driving experience, no one cares about all the gizmos & gadgets & fancy interior features that now come with it. And why put a CVT in a sports car, every other competitor uses a proper DCT, DSG, zf Auto transmission or even a regular auto tranny, that would help this car put down the power far better than the CVT, you can call it any fancy name you like at the end of the day it’s a CVT, yes it has improved over the previous gen but not by much, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the FA20 WRX beats this in a straight line because I honestly felt not much difference in performance other than a smoother drive. Go back to the drawing board Subaru, every manufacturer has upped there game big time & you guys are lagging behind by 20 years, times have changed since the early peak years, it’s time to move up, I hope the next generation is a killer but I honestly fail to see that because every new generation they promise us an awesome concept with upgraded performance & the actual car turns out to be nothing like it. Sorry for the rant but I’m a hardcore wrexy fan & to see the car you love become what it has just saddens you. Getting gapped by a soy boys tuned Starlet in this is just embarrasing.

CVT version is slower but it has better, electronically controlled AWD system with slightly rwd feel while manual has simple 50/50 center visco diff.
@Jaredscott89
@Jaredscott89 2 года назад
Depends on the market doesn't it? Australian delivered cars with a manual have typically been fitted with a rear VLSD. Also being a VLSD centre means the 50/50 split is only ever a static figure on paper, on the road you are going to get a dynamic split depending on which end has more traction.
@4x4.tests.on.rollers
@4x4.tests.on.rollers 2 года назад
@@Jaredscott89 Depends on the transmission. Manual has VCD so 50/50 by default (mechanical structure) while CVT has VTD - 45/55 FR (planetary gear center differential). VTD has more locking force than VCD so it has wider range of dynamic torque split. Furthermore - it doesn't need any slippage (like VCD) to increase the clamping force.
@Jaredscott89
@Jaredscott89 2 года назад
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers VLSD in the centre of a manual WRX isn't a mechanical system. As I said, it will actively find a torque split based on the front/rear grip. It doesn't have a wider range of torque split actually. Its impossible based on how each system functions. The manual car can theoretically be between 100-0 and 0-100, where the VTD can only vary from 100-45 on the front axle. Your conclusion is pretty faulty, in the VLSD the clamping force (note, nothing is actually clamping, just a KgF resistance to a speed differential) only serves to bring the speed differential back to the neutral state. You also have made some random assumption that a 45/55 split is more desirable than a 50/50 split, but failed to provide any actual reason why other than, a tiny rwd bias, which means largely nothing without consideration of the rest of the system.
@4x4.tests.on.rollers
@4x4.tests.on.rollers 2 года назад
@@Jaredscott89 OK, clamping force was the wrong word (second language issue), let's call it the ability of a diff to lock itself. Visco center differential is entirely mechanical unit, there are no electronics involved, there is no proactive operation. Apart from initial preload it reacts to the speed differences between the axles. It cannot lock itself completely so dynamic torque split is ~20/80 to ~80/20. VTD has electronically controlled clutch-pack which is responsible for the TBR and that is variable. Under full lock up the dynamic torque split is from ~100/0 to ~0/100 (TBR is infinity : 1). And what's the most important - there's no slippage needed for the change of TBR, that's all up to computer decisions made on many factors. VTD is simplified version (no selectable levels) of DCCD, that's much better system than basic visco center differential. And when it comes to 50/50 or 45/55 - ok, whatever you like. For me the slightly rwd feel in a sporty car is very desirable.
@Jaredscott89
@Jaredscott89 2 года назад
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers No worries, not meaning to be rude regarding second language issues. I thought you were referring to real mechanical LSD, like clutch or plate type diffs. Misunderstanding on my part there. Technically it can be completely locked, to the KgF rating of the viscous coupling. Which is typically 4Kg/mm in a wrx, but there have been 20Kg/mm units in various versions throughout the years. Under a lab test it could be 100-0 to 0-100, but your 80% variance is also a common quote, no issues there. I think your misunderstanding is on the VTD side. At 100% lock, it can't exceed the default planetary split, which is 45/55. Subaru incorrectly claim it can, but its because of marking nonsense, not engineering reality. But the slightly rwd feeling can be adjusted based on setup. Depends on individual car weight distribution and wheel alignment, dynamic suspension geometry, etc... CVT is heavier and lower efficiency overall. But nothing stopping Subaru from making the manual drive just as rear biased, because it depends on setup.
