I went Perrin intake with the Cobb Stage two package and the car is completely different from stock. Had to take Subi on on check engine and remove everything and its insane how much torque you gain along with the beautiful sounds from a turbo. It pulled the P0420 code and no they are replacing the o2's and cat. Both Companies claim they neither have customers with this unless the did the Jpipe which I don't want to mess with being I'm in California. The dealership is considering a buy back replacement at this point. Been in service since March 12th

Well, I guess AEM doesn't make the list or get honorable mention. LOl. I choose it after watching Subbie speeds intake shoot out. Suites my needs for what power I want to do to my 22 WRX with a pro tune. Car feels great, BTW! 😉 Oh, I model my build after your shop car as I absolutely love the look you've created . Color, rims, tint, and paint matched arrow kit all same, expect I have modest low profile spoiler compared to that of the STI wing.

I have been aiming for the Perrin cold air intake, but people say it still requires a tune. I dont wanna tune my car at the moment. Can you verify if it really doesnt require a tune? Do you know someone running with this that did not tune their car?

The word in question is “requires”. The Perrin intake does not “require” a tune. With that out of the way, there are many benefits from having your vehicle tuned after the intake’s installation. While you will benefit from the additional sound created by the open element filter, the true performance gains won’t become available until after a new calibration.

@@garybrandle7947 between 300-315whp. The Mishimoto intake retains the factory MAF housing diameter. This will restrict your overall HP peak number. The upside is the Mishimoto looks cool, and will still give you all the turbo noises!

Why is it the wrx community says intakes need a tune? It's the only car community that says it does. Literally. Is it because they're compensating or or they just douchenozzels who parrot everything

Great question! Subaru consists of an open AND closed loop fueling system. After 60% throttle the ECU reverts back to a “open loop”. This no longer allows corrections to be made to the fueling/ timing/ ignition tables that are programmed in to the vehicles software. In other words, any additional air entering the engine (from your new intake) will not have proper fueling compensation.
