2:58 "I don't know why people ask whether the panniers can fit a helmet" Because panniers that can fit helmets allow you to go for a day trip with a passenger and, when you get there, you can stow the helmets go walking / siteseeing handsfree. I found that it vastly increased the willingness of my wife to go out on the bike if she didn't have to lug her helmet around!
@Jsixseven
@Jsixseven 2 года назад
Also if it's a particularly warm day you can leave both helmets and both jackets on the bike if you have a top box........even better!
@JFDI1
@JFDI1 2 года назад
I always carry a cable, if my panniers and top box are full I can use that for my jacket and helmet. Today I was on my GS without top box or panniers and just used the cable. Cost me about a tenner for three and been using them for 12 years on many tours, originally on a GSXR 1000k6. I feel I'd love this bike, I certainly know the engine but the other half loves the back of my GS sadly.

I did the exact same thing. I traded in my gixxer for one of these and the comfort compared to the gixxer is unbelievably a "bonus". It was the reason i did the exchange. I'm getting too old for crotch rocket positions anymore. I love this bike and will always have one from here on out. Not to mention, the excellent bang for your bucks. Love Love Love!

Absolute brilliant bike for anyone wanting a great handling sports bike with comfort and does the occasional trip away. The suspension is set up slightly on the sports side and handles superb. This isn't a 100% dedicated touring bike, it was never meant to be. And it was built to a price with regards heated grips, etc. It must be the best value bike out there. Maybe the people who are missing a shaft drive, top box, etc are looking at the wrong bike and forgetting that the word "sports" is also in the description. This is the best bike i have had that covers my needs and style of riding and puts lots of smiles on my face. And no i don't do two up touring, it was cheaper to buy her indoors a horse.

The reason only one headlight works on low beam is a safety feature. This became common quite a few years ago, this is the best explanation that I could find. You might have learned back in school how we can measure distance through angles and a single measurement. This is called triangulation. Your brain also does this when you look at an object with your two eyes; the closer an object is, the narrower your eyes will come to look directly at the object. When an object is far away, we struggle to perceive the distance because the angle is too small. So when we look at a car’s headlights, the triangle is actually turned around; we perceive two lights from one perspective, which would be both our eyes or effectively one eye. This makes it difficult to perceive the distance of a motorcycle because there is only a straight line between your eyes and the bike. We estimate the distance of a motorcycle by the brightness of the light and how the light moves and reflects on the road.

You can get a touring screen from Suzuki. For those who would like to inch it closer to the tourer bit, 1-2 teeth down would make it cruise friendly and probably not really affect overall acceleration. Center stands are slowly disappearing because of rerouted exhausts. Need a paddock stand. Seems the main difference between this and the 1000SX is this motor is livelier and actually a bit smoother. It should dispatch the Kaw in a straight line. And the handling is more sporting (a trade-off in ride comfort). Not put off by the nose, but I'd take this over the adolescent graphics on the Kaw (unless they can be peeled off!). Comes down to how your (and a pillion's) body fits any of these in the category (Honda, Yamaha included), and if you're a more sporting rider, a mile muncher, or in between. (1000GT, SX, 9GT, NT in that order, I'd guess.)

That's a fair review, it does miss some useful touring items, but nice to see suzuki making a proper 'sports tourer'.... 3.10, im with you Andy, panniers are for luggage, yes it's just a bonus if helmet fits, but not its primary purpose.

An advantage of ageing at last!!! While the sound wasn't as crisp as usual I didn't find it too bad to listen to. Guessing the scratching everyone is commenting on was above my frequency threshold!! Nice bike but not a great one, main irritant for me is the one day riding light. The engine is a descendant of my RF900's I imagine so a comparison of 2022 with 1998 might be interesting!! Overall a good insightful review and nicely edited mix between riding and walk rounds. Cheers Andy!

Nice review Andy. Looks like a great all-rounder and people buying this shouldn't be disappointed. I agree with you about the front end - neither good nor bad; fuel tank should be larger and windshield is acutely angled so whilst it looks large, it can be basically ineffective. Rear vision mirrors look ok but I have to say the best I have seen were on my previous bike, a 2012 Triumph Speed Triple with bar ends. Thanks for another quality review.

I’ve been waiting for this one! I personally really love the look, I think it’s the best looking sport tourer, the blue is sharp. But as you noted, it’s really a solo sport tourer. The fact that Suzuki couldn’t put a hand crank adjustable preload for the rear is baffling, the vstrom 650 has it!

I totally agree!

And the Ninja 1000sx has the remote preload. These bikes square up quite closely in spec, but that just seems like such an omission on Suzuki's part.
@allwheeldrive
@allwheeldrive 2 года назад
@@JCintheBCC Seems their product brief understood it would have to lean more toward sports than touring, so these decisions (preload, short std. screen, short-geared, stiffer suspension for better handling) had to be made within pricing guidelines. Center stand is not Euro 5 friendly for not only this bike.

Another great review Andy, thanks. I ordered one in December and now the dealer says Q4 delivery. Australia behind the UK in the queue apparently. Hoping that a 2023 model hasn’t appeared by then, that would be plain annoying. Some reviewers have described the brakes as ‘wooden’ but I noticed you said they were fine. Very interested in your opinion after riding the bike for a while. Some also say the brakes would be ‘fixed’ by installing EBC brake pads. If you have a view on that I’d also be interested. Thanks for another great review! When you get a chance to test the front and rear brakes, can you please let us know if they're linked at all? For example, me BMW 1200 GS has partially Integral brakes. Under certain conditions, when I pull the front brake lever, both the front and rear brakes are applied. The foot lever operates only the rear brake. On a motorcycle with this configuration, it might make make it seem like the front brake is REALLY strong, but that's because it's actually applying both brakes. By comparison, the rear brake will seem relatively week because it's operating by itself. Thanks again!

Did i mention the most comfortable bike EVER? lol Can't say enough about that, and it hauls ass too, with the 05 engine platform they built it around. @MissendenFlyer Thank you very much for your very interesting and entertaining videos. I am 5'.7'', 11.8 stones and 58 yrs old in average shape and I can't decide between this bike and the FJR 1300. I want an old school sport touring and I am very tempted by the FJR but I little afraid about it's weight. I will be using the bike both on a daily basis, but not in bad city traffic (1 up) and for week-end touring (max 2 days, 2 up). Do you consider the SUZUKI a modern and sleek version of the FJR or the Yamaha with a the bigger engine and better seat and electric screen is still a level up? Thank you in advance for you kind answer. Wish you all the best in life

Nice review & a decent bike. I agree I'm not entirely sure about the looks but they don't put me off if that makes sense. Also seems it needs a little more polishing & a few tweaks for next year to make it totally comparable with the Kawasaki, it's main competitor, like an adjustable screen, remote preload adjuster & possibly an IMU. Although whether it actually needs it or is more of a fashion accessory is possibly debatable but I think most riders would prefer one these days if poss.

@ragerider6283
@ragerider6283 2 года назад
@@markharrison2484 Yes definitely agree but unfortunately for Suzuki they take so long to develop anything, Kawasaki have stolen a march on them as the ZX has them all in a more polished package which is currently £300 cheaper for the base model without panniers. For reference the basic GSXS GT is now £11,799 before OTR costs on their official website as they just increased all their prices for this year. I imagine inflation will catch up with Kwak too shortly but they're not daft, they just match the Suzuki at the same price & it'll still be a better deal. However where the Suzuki does beat the ZX is that it's a lighter more powerful SPORTS tourer while the Kawasaki is a sports TOURER.

@ragerider6283 2 года назад
@@markharrison2484 I have no doubt you're right. It's definitely more than enough. I was more meaning that that is Suzuki's angle but I'm not convinced it's enough for most people who want a sports tourer to opt for the Suzuki over the Kawasaki given the spec & price. It's a decent enough first effort from Suzuki but it needs just a little bit more polish & to stay the same price.

Hmm, that Concordian front end has all the air of an aerodynamic splitter box, curling said draftiness around the rider's loins to fill the partial vacuum left by progress, so, sticking a topbox up there? The 'dog's tail wagging a wheelbarrow'? Fun : )

Very nice motorbike Suzuki gsx-s1000 GT a very good all rounder. I was surprised that they was no top box for include with panniers set. You can buy one from Suzuki and different size and price range from £80 to £170 plus. Seat height not to high and someone small could get boots that increases your height. Thanks for the review

From my perspective, being able to put a helmet in the pannier is useful for everyday use. It’s nice to be able to leave the helmet locked in a pannier when you go into a store or you’re walking around.
@Grahamvfr
@Grahamvfr 2 года назад
Yes indeed it is useful, but reviewers often write a pannier off at the outset, (if a helmet dos'nt fit ) irrespective of how well shaped, how well fitted and how waterproof the panniers may be for the luggage they were designed to carry.

When ever you say "she'd be comfortable for hours on a tour" I harken back to the times I spent on Highway 2 going across northern North Dakota and Montana to visit Glacier Park in the early '80's; and I ponder just how well she would do on that stretch. I bet the GL1800 would be the hands down preferred ride. :^) That said, that road is a lot better than 95 north out of Las Vegas going to Reno. A road that pushed me to carry the bike in the truck instead. :^)

I read an article some time back regarding the lack of OEM top boxes it said it was due to the bike becoming unstable at higher speeds making the front end light, I tend to agree with this as the luggage options are usually wildly expensive given that it's just a plastic box and the mark up must offer a great profit margin not to offer one seem an oversight but it would avoid the sales harming reputation of having a death trap if you end up over 90mph. Kawasaki are the same with their's.
@Valks-22
@Valks-22 2 года назад
I mean it could be offset without too much hassle with some front spoilers (unlike Ducati pieces of plastic I doubt they need to cost €1500 or such) to increase front downforce and a better screen. It's gone too much sport on the sport---tourer spectrum. Alongside shaft drive and better pillion comfort.
@kleinbottled79
@kleinbottled79 2 года назад
@@Valks-22 Honestly, it could also be offset by keeping it under 120mph while you have the top case on. Any reasonably aerodynamic top case isn't going to make the front light until stupid speeds. Still, one can imagine Suzuki is rightfully cautious of lawsuits.

Great review. I owned the gsxs1000 and that front with the round headlight looked better than this bike. Liked my bike but sold it because of that high insane insurance cost and for that snatchy throttle. Didnt like that at all but the bike was a beaty and the sound from the engine was amazing. What do you think of the throttle respons of your bike? Dont get why you cant fit/order a matching topbox from start. Its the same with the Kawa ninja. You have to buy aftermarket. Please Suzuki and Kawazaki bring out a less powered bike to bring down the insurance cost and the price. I think between 700-900cc is better. Who really needs 150 horsepower?

I’m a huge Suzuki fan, mostly of their practical, workhorse engines and chassis. Their design however is a bit lacking I think. Not always. As their MotoGP bikes are so beautiful and even the new design of the ‘busa is so sophisticated looking and German in a way. I struggle to find any beauty in the rest of the bikes. They should really up their game in this department.

Thanks for another great review. I agree that having only one running light working on any bike with two side by side lights, looks wrong. And on top of that, the lights on this thing make it look like it's suffering depression and questioning all its life decisions. Suzuki could have simply tilted them down a little toward the middle or put a slant on them to make them a little aggressive instead of sad. It really spoils the look of the bike.

Nice vid, as always. For competition, there is only the Ninja 1000 SX left. The Tracer 9 is still a fun bike, but it wants to wheelie all the time and the QS can`t hold a candle to the one this Suzuki comes with. Also, the handlebar is way to high for my liking and hinders me in transfering my body weight forward. Who wants a funbike for touring chooses the Tracer, who wants a sport bike for touring gets the Suzuki. The NT 1100 is much heavier, has more suspension travel and is way more a touring machine and lacks around 50 HP.
