Hello Dan, I was subscribed to you a long time ago..I can't wait for more S1000 GT stuff..actually, you were seemingly lucky to be the first to ride the bike and post on YT. I think that's a good sign that Suzuki UK value your opinion...it does point to the fact that you and your contemporaries do really influence new bike sales....and that is an amazing fact..
@@markgillett1472 Hey Mark, thanks for being a long term supporter of my channel, it is very much appreciated. Not sure I influence sales all that much but I just try to give an honest review from an average biker, that seems to be something people want. Ride safe and all the best! Dan
@@Englishbikerdan Hi Dan, I disagree...I think Suzuki DO think you influence sales...certainly influence opinion...and Kawasaki will eventually wake up, and recognise that you do have an effect on opinion, and ultimately sales too. I hope that soon, you will be able to go to BMW, KTM, Ducati, and whomever you want to try bikes from, and they will be happy to do so. I do think this will happen, if you continue your style of YT content. Just continue to do what you do...and you might be surprised what might happen. I'm sure you are aware that your influence is 'free advertising' for them...and your viewers are the guys that actually buy bikes. Don't underestimate how important what your content does....or overestimate either, ha ha :)
Thanks Mark, I'm able to ride pretty much all other bikes except Yamaha and Kawasaki. They seem reluctant to get on the RU-vid band wagon. Let's hope it changes soon! All the best! Dan
Suzuki gets a lot of shit these days for not innovating but this bike is proof positive that their formula of steadily improving what has already been successful is can be a winning strategy. This bike looks appears to be a stunning value. I hope it sells well.
I'd love a true "current gen" Suzuki naked. The GSX-S750 is really old and it's discontinued already. I remember reading something a few months ago about Suzuki having plans to refresh and modernize their bikes in the future. I hope this means a fresh new naked to compete with bikes like Tuono 660, CB650, or even the MT-07.
They had a turbocharged concept come and go, called the Recursion. It was a 588cc parallel twin intercooled turbo, on a sports naked 1/4 fairing bike. Really wish they'd have put it out. But I suppose something along the lines of cost and sales numbers justifying a force induction bike in the sub-600cc range putting out the power of a 800-900cc bike, probably didn't make sense ultimately. Yes, the 645cc V-twin is probably going to get retired soon and replaced with a 690-ish or 700cc parallel twin (most likely a 270° crank in keeping with their v-twin sound/feel heritage) to compete with the excellent MT-07 that stole the show. Parallel twins are less expensive to manufacture, package, less weight, less complex fuel and cooling and exhaust systems. With no less than 4 firing order configurations that I know of, they can be made to feel and sound just about anything they want as well.
Copying something Kawasaki did over 10 years ago? Surely that’s proof positive Suzuki ARE shit at innovation. Same price as the SX, so how is it stunning value ? Nice to have a choice though between green and blue. Oh hold on, Kawasaki have already made one in this blue…..
@@douglasalexander4348 You don't HAVE to like Suzuki. Surely you've seen an example of a manufacturer that has been making something for years and might be a market leader in that particular product. Then along comes someone else and knocks them off their pedestal with the first swing. Happens often. If you can get past the brand bias, you might see the value of something. From experts motojournalists who've been in the bizz for decades and have ridden everything, micro-analyzed everything, seen and experienced it all, they are saying that the S1000GT is probably one of the best products Suzuki has put out in recent decades. Yes they don't put out a lot, but they put out. The tech is there, the aero is there, the features are there, the purpose of the bike is there, the horsepower is there, the lower weight is there, the durability and proven powerplant is there. Nothing to whine about.
Yup. All these faux adventure bikes are just too ugly, too upright, and too heavy. And the 19 or even 21 inch front wheels despite almost everyone using them exclusively on the road? Oh, please... Never got the hype. Bring back proper sport tourers!
Not too long ago, I was worried about the whole sport touring segment disappearing, and it is my preferred class of motorcycle. Now, there appears to have been a resurgence and there are several great sport touring bikes available. Well done Suzuki, it's great that they keep refining that awesome GSXR sourced powerplant, it is a legend.
Loved the admission that there are better, more confident riders who adapt to wet weather riding like ducks to water. I, probably like most people who watch your reviews, am exactly the same. Limitited (or knowing my own limitations) skills but a love of bikes. They're tools not weapons.
I finally like the looks of a Suzuki. The sport touring market is really thin so this is a really good option for me. It has, after all, that wonderful gsx engine.
I tried The GSX S1000GT last year (2022) and really like it but I just can't stand to look at a windshield so I ordered a 2023 GSX S1000! All the fun and no windshield 😁👍
I never liked suzuki designs, but recently their Katana, GSX 1000 has been catching my eye lately, now this. I like where suzuki's design language is going
this is another bike based on the k5 platform, there is no reason for it to not be good the thing I love about suzuki the most, is that their bikes are on the cheaper side, but still very high quality, well made and cool looking bikes
Great to see this vid on a full fat Sports Tourer from Suzook, rather than another yawn ADV GS clone 😱 I will definitely give it a good coat of looking at when it arrives in my local dealer alongside a Z1000SX 👍 Shame on Triumph & Honda for not producing a Sprint GT1200 or a lighter VFR to compete with GSX-S1000GT
Good looking bike, possibly my next machine in a couple of years time… For me though a “GT Bike” should come standard with panniers, heated grips and a centre stand, which is an absolute must on any chain driven touring bike! Hopefully this will be addressed in future updates. But for now, my new Tracer 9-GT is the better more equipped machine - having all these things (and more) as standard!
OR at least back the value out of the MSRP when compared to main completion (Tracer9 GT) ....for essentially the same MSRP Yamaha is giving you things that Suzuki want to upsell you into....I'm getting the Yamaha....you blew it again Suzuki
Great video and we appreciate the honesty. Is there a plan to do a head to head comparison of the Tracer 9, 1000sx, and 1000GT models? I would be very interested to see how the bikes actually fair against one another. Also, some talking points I rarely see on any bikes in this segment are: 1. Spine compression (how the bike translates road conditions to your body) 2. Pillion perspectives on comfort, gab handle location/design, seat size, getting on/off bike, etc. 3. How the bike handles in 90 degrees (F) and above in city and on highway and what is the experience like (I live in Texas, its hot as hell here 9 months of the year) 4. Bike comfort and usability for larger riders (height and weight) 5. What is the best bike in the segment (this is a bit of a faux pas for some, but if you were going to buy 1 bike to do everything, what would that be?)
The whole single dipped, single main beam headlight is a thing that annoys me in general; why can't we have dual filament bulbs, it's not exactly a new or expensive technology for crying out loud. However, that gripe aside, this is a bike I'm genuinely interested in, purpose-built, true Sports Tourers (not just a litre-class all-rounders with panniers) is a rare sight.
I totaly agree, if this bike would have a set of normal lights I would go and buy it... for the time being I'll stick to my 2017 Z1000SX with two LED lights...its 2021 after all, not 2006
The Suzuki does seem sportier than the Ninja 1000SX, which I have test ridden along with the Ninja H2 SX SE+. It is lighter with more horsepower than the 1000SX, just look at the frame and swingarm. It's half the cost of the 2022 H2 SX SE. The 2019 H2 SX SE+ I rode seemed top heavy. Both Ninjas are more luxurious than this Suzuki. The 2022 H2 SX SE has the same type of dash as this Suzuki plus heated grips, IMUs, radar sensors for collision warning and blind spot monitor, tire pressure meter, cornering LEDs, Bluetooth key fob, supercharger with 200 hp, and a centerstand, but at double the price of this Suzuki. It's a shame US Suzuki don't give test rides on this model.
@@Englishbikerdan That Triton blue color is nice also, but unfortunately that color is not offered in the USA. Only the other two colors of dark blue with black wheels and all black are offered here. Suzuki does offer heated grips as an option, but it would be cheaper to get Oxford heated grips.
Gonna have a '24 red gt plus in my garage on tuesday. To tell the truth, I'm starting to like the front end of the gt. Sure as heck looks better than many of Yamaha's latest. And the lack of a centerstand can be easily addressed by a swingarm jack. Works nicely. Lotta bike for the money. Can't wait.
I love that tank! Great job Suzuki! However those lug nuts on the engine cover look like they will rust...soon. Great review and I think its worth noting how often is it that a manufacturer has a press launch of a new motorcycle in Scotland lol! I think that inspires confidence. Glad your recognition has prospered as much as it has EnglishBikerDan. Cheers!
At last suzuki have made a good looking and sporty motorcycle. I love the looks and styling of this bike and it has a decent seat height, can't wait to test ride one. Well done sir a very informative and entertaining video thanks 😊 👍 👏.
@@stepbackandthink I don't understand , he says he likes it's and he will buy it , I don't understand why do u have to say it's a not good looking bike ,
I really want this bike, ha ha. Suzuki have challenged my thoughts that Honda are No 1 for me...I can't wait to see this in my local dealership..in the Philippines...so it may be 6 months or more before I can even see this bike in person. I don't see many differences between this and the naked S1000..although there may be. Either one would suit me!! Thanks Dan...I connect with your style of review...us consumers usually do not get a chance to try all the bikes in a range before we buy, so we rely on opinions of trusted reviewers to help us make a decision. You are one of my trusted reviewers, who have the power to change where I splash my cash.
@@Englishbikerdan You are welcome..it takes hard work to get videos to be cohesive and informative, with no extraneous distractions. Your high quality technique is up there with the best..Andy, Bruce, Lambchop, etc. Trying to ride an unfamiliar bike, and speak sensibly is no mean feat, but you pull it off admirably :)
You're my hero EnglishBikerDan. First to post an actual rider review of the S1000GT+. Hope you can show us the Bluetooth connectivity in action and more of the bike's toys and sounds. Looks like a great ride.
People always saying "Suzuki needs to update their bikes". Meanwhile they are taking non stop MotoAmerica podiums against bikes that cost 2x what the GSXR1000 does. Fireblade ZX10R DUCATI R1M All of these cost more, yet the Suzuki stands toe to toe unflinching. If it ain't broke- slowly improve it.
Well done mate, terrific review with bonus scenery. You have a very relaxing style which suits me perfectly. Really appreciated the honest opinions that you gave in referrence to how the bike made you feel. Naturally everyone will have thier own views regarding this new GT, but I reckon it will do quite well sales wise. Unfortunately, in Australia, we will have to wait until March'22 to be able to ride one. Should be worth the wait. The price and the style certainly appeals to me. Great job mate, stay safe.
For decades suzi not had a bike ive liked the look of, until now, looks 🥰 in the blue, am moving on from a 02 vtec vfr 800 next year, have ridden the ninja 1000sx, very nice, bmw s1000sx & f900xr 🥰, looking forward to having a look at this, shame no centre stand🤔
Great video. Lovely looking bike and long over due from Suzuki. Far nicer in looks [in my opinion] than the the half sports tourer half adventure look of the new Yam Tracer 9. Great job mate. Keep up the good work.
This bike is in direct competition with my current bike, ninja1000sx touring. I sold my FJR 1300 and came over to something more sporty, it does the same job. Not much to criticise on the Suzuki but I hate the “one eyed look” with the headlights. Think Suzuki should’ve added an adjustable screen though. I’ll certainly consider one when I change 👍. Good, informative video.
Great review Dan. That bike is better than I thought it would be. A good tourer and has plenty of power for anyone. Not a bad price either. Those roads looked amazing to ride. Not jealous at all 😂
The bike looks stunning and goes well. Great review, you might have to do all your reviews in Scotland 😂😂 the roads are fantastic. Really enjoyed the on board footage.
I'll be testing one soon, but no remote pre-load adjust on the rear is a miss for a touring bike when the loaded weight can vary significantly (even though Suzuki don't recommend more than 5kg in each pannier!)
Having ridden a sv650, then my fathers K1200GT and FJR1300 I can greatly appreciate this bike. I haven’t ridden in years now but this may be a contender for my next 2 wheel ride. Oh the choices but it’s a shame the inventory everywhere is so bad :(
I've been looking for a sport tourer but being a Kawasaki fan I was looking at the 1000 SX. And to be honest the only thing I don't like about the Kawasaki is the available color options now I know I'm not going to buy a bike just because of the available color options but that's what actually brought me to look at the Suzuki, that being said Kawasaki's color options broadened my horizons you might say. A test ride of each will tell the tale!
Good opening explanation of the headlight set-up and how it works. First time anyone has done that.I like the way you have set up the phone/tank bag with cable into UHF socket. I would opt for the higher touring screen and a top-box. I don't have much use for panniers these days. Tend to get in the way when filtering through traffic. I've fitted a 56 litre Givi top box which I find indispensable for holding helmet, shopping, bike lock, tubeless puncture kit, wet weather pants.Screen looks peachy. Heated grips and heated seat available / optional. Main competition from my viewpoint is the Tracer 9GT. Your thoughts on how they compare?
Thanks Andrew. I've not tried any recent Yamaha's as I've had no interest from dealers or Yamaha UK in loaning me bikes for review. Possibly due to my criticism after a bad experience with my MT07.
@@Englishbikerdan Sad to hear they've chosen to be so thin skinned. You have to review a bike as you find it or you lose too much credibility. False reviews sound like paid PR jobs? If we weren't in Lock down in Melbourne, I'd fo it myself.
@@MrAndrew1953 people need to stand up against this lock down shit. I'm in the states and when we were on "lockdown"...police in my locality weren't policing the issue. I haven't changed a thing in two years except wearing a face diaper in certain establishments. (I'm surprised stores still ask for u to wear mask...I figured by now everyone realizes the things do not work. The media and fed govt....has gone about this thing so wrong. Its honestly disgusting. Two years in and not a single person has died from covid that wasn't already compromised and elderly that I personally know. Now they try to force to take vaccines that don't work.... its a joke....its a cash grab...nothing more. Covid is real. But look around for yourself and you'll find the reality of it.
When they released the bloody thing, two things happened immediately: 1. I thought to myself "this is gonna be my next bike"... 2. ... but before I buy it I hope Dan makes a review. But it didn't even cross my mind the review would be THIS year! Awesome stuff, thanks man (writing that even before actually watching lol).
First time I’ve seen one of your reviews. I’ve been hanging out to see the tests of this bike coming through. Definitely on top of my next bike list. Cheers from Australia.
I’m actively seeking a comfortable sports tourer and no matter what I look it I keep coming back to Pan European followed by FJR. All these new age sports tourers seem heavy-weighted towards sport and for the life of me I don’t know why considering the GSXR is there, the mad Kawasaki is there, the blade is there. Bring back proper comfortable tourers with enough power and all the required touring requirements. Rant over. I’ll be buying a pan.
I found the it very comfortable, even though it does look sporty. 350 miles over 2 days with breaks and I had no pain or discomfort. Perhaps doing 400 miles in a day with less breaks would show some issues. For full comfort you now have the NT1100 or take your pick of big adventure bikes. Thanks for the sub, appreciated. 👍
@@Englishbikerdan thanks I’ll maybe try a test ride, I seen the NT1100, not for me like so many of the adventure bikes, it’s the styling and high ridding position that puts me off. RE: Kawasaki, why not book yourself a test ride of the 1000SX then just blog the bugger 😀
Hehe, I think next year I'm going to have to do it sneakily as Kwak don't like you filming test rides. Not a fan of the Kwak design language at the moment other than the 900RS. I guess the good thing is, there's so many bikes to choose from nowadays! Ride safe 😊
I prefer the 1000SX over the S 1000 GT.. Better brakes, 6 axis IMU (cornering ABS), top case mounting together with the paniers (not recommended but) possible.. IMO the display (any) with all the modern gadgets available is not that important.. concentrating more on the BIKE itself and the RIDING.. (although I think these two bikes are very close, probably it's just a question of taste..)
Great review. Very good quality & production. Also like the bike a lot too. Not sure it's a better proposition than the Kawasaki but it's definitely in the running. Also seems sportier than the Kwak so I guess it depends how you sporty you want your touring.
@@Englishbikerdan Rode it for over 45000 miles with Givi bags. Great bike. Wish Suzuki had come out with the new one a few years ago as I might have it over my R1200RS.
Great to see another vid! Here's a question for you. You bought a triumph tiger 850 (if I remember correctly) with a view to doing some more touring, with a pillion, and a seat that you can actually sit in for more than 30 minutes. If this bike had been around, would it have tempted you over the tiger sport, even though it's a couple £k more.
Hopefully Suzuki GSX-S1000GT are low price tag, adjustable windshield, centre stand and heated grips. Without these features and lowest selling price, Suzuki will not become best selling sport touring bike elsewhere.
Really interested in this bike! Seems like a nice alternative to adventure bikes if you want something to tour on that isn’t incredibly heavy and expensive. Might be a bit worse than a V-Strom 1050 on gravel but probably much nicer on the motorway?
Depends on how you define adventure. The vstrom is more comfortable for longer hauls due it’s upright position and relaxed ergos. It’s also somewhat off-road capable. The GSX S is purely a road machine with a stronger emphasis on spirited sport riding vs all day touring
Fantastic! Thank you for the review, and it’s awesome you reviewed on roads I know!!! I ordered mine the day after the first pics hit the web, and have been waiting with bated breath for an English language review of the GT! Sounds like I won that gamble!
Very nice and unfiltered review! While the bikes headlight does look like a Yamaha, specifically the MT-10's, I think it still is in a league on its own being a new release from Suzuki. Keep up the good work!
Looks very much like The Kawasaki Z1000 Ninja Sx , shame Suzuki missed a trick not having heated grips and no Emu , I really like the new Suzuki GT , but still think the Kawasaki has the Edge. Great video , very informative 👏
Sports touring or naked bike is where it's at for me right now. I would love for Suzuki to bring an updated naked middleweight and a "new" middleweight sports tourer on the market. I'm sure they've caught on to the popularity but afraid they might hold out too long. Still they make great bikes for value. Thanks for this first ride review Dan.
Great review, could you describe a littler more about the amount and type of vibration it has at different rpm's ? I've had 2 FJRs (5-speed and 6-speed) and couldn't get used to the 3500-4500 buzz zone. Does it vibrate more or less ? Thanks very much. I'm ready to put a deposit on one.
Okay so I have some questions I'd love to see you cover in your future material(s) about that bike or just as comments, please: 1. Seems like the position is quite comfortably upright (not too sporty but not like full upright like on an adventure bike) - doesn't that mean that you get a lot of wind blown at your face, I mean helmet? Does the accessory screen improve that a lot or just barely noticeably? 2. The side cases - how firm are they especially when you accidentally hit a hole on the road? 2. Side cases again - do they really fit a helmet? How's the antiwater protection of those? 3. Details on riding position - I'm currently riding on a GSX-S750 and I love the bike but the position is quite leaned forward so after a while I need to have a stretch because my lower back and knees start to hurt a little. I'm assuming there's no such problem with that bike? (just making sure) 4. If you could please compare the rider's position and handling of that beauty to e.g. your previous bike, the CB-650R. What I mean is that this bike is definitely heavier but were you uncomfortable with that mass? Or even compare it with your current machine, of course if you can ;) Thanks for the material, I've been watching your videos for a while with great pleasure, you've definitely grown as a content creator on RU-vid, cheers from Poland!
Well done..Biker Dan the movie! action shots. Typical of Suzuki sensible price looks well designed with a very fine engine excellent vfm..refreshing honesty about riding within your limits and conditions..
Dan you lucky so and so I really like this bike it would be top of my list if I could convince the misses that spending £11,000 on a third bike is a good idea I am so jealous right now I can not tell ya : D look forward to you getting a longer term on it . : ) cheers
Great review thank you sir. Will be looking to have a test ride on one of those once they are in the dealerships, would make a nice partner for my VStrom 1000 XT 👍🏍
Great to wake up this morning and watch this. As the owner of a 2018 Z1000SX really good to see finally a direct competitor. This bike will take a lot of sales away from the Ninja 1000 for sure. Shame no heated grips and a non adjustable screen though. Otherwise looks great. Fantastic first review too.
It's not going to do much damage to the Ninja 1000 sales. Basically same ball park in price, but the electronics package is far superior and cruise control is now standard on the 2020 and above Ninja. Suzuki is chasing a bike that's been around for 11 years now. That's how slow their thinking is. They finally built the bike to accept luggage. That only took them 7 YEARS!!! But yes, I do agree, this is the only head to head comparison I've seen for the Ninja. Everyone else thinks the future is ADV. Those bikes are FUGLY, sit to tall, and weigh too much. Not to mention most of them are very expensive because they're in style now.
Taste is so individual and while I think it's a good looking bike I can tell you that I get compliments on its looks practically every time I am out riding my Ninja 1000SX. As an exemple check out my little helmet "review" (more like a personal opinion) on the new Arai Quantic, even there I got a compliment.
My kind of bike. Comfortable sporty bike that I can also tour on. I've not found one that is perfect yet and I'll have too have a closer look at the gsx GT. The pillion comfort looks to be a bit lacking which would be a deal breaker for me. There are quite a few bikes now in this segment but none are so reasonably priced.
They've apparently aimed to give the pillion plenty of comfort with the seat padding and peg position, but only one way to find out really. I will take the Mrs on the back when I can get a long term loan.
@@Englishbikerdan Had a R1200RS that really suited me but the Mrs was used to a previous K16GT and pillion comfort never came close. It's hard to find decent pillion accommodation in bikes that are not full on tourers first. I think the answer is not to let them try tourers and they won't know what's available ;-)
As in the past (remember the past?) I hope Suzuki offers incentive packages IE: a package that includes panniers, higher windscreen, heated grips, comfort seat . . . you know, the things that justify the T part of the GT.
Not a fan of Kwak design language personally other than the 900 RS. We rode these bikes pretty hard in the wet and not once did I feel it needed an IMU. I even got a puncture and the bikes TCS just dealt with it up until it had very little air left in the tyre. Then it got interesting! 😂
Nice Bike made from suzuki, great reviewed while on the road, nice places and view also..rain or shine suzuki 1000 gt is nice to be drive..hope to drive someday..
Looks million times better on you camera for some reason. I would want more power to be happy with this bike. Should have used the vvt engine. Looks good. But pass. So far.. the XR is the top of me new bike list.
