In this video we replace the original tires on the Tesla Model Y Performance. The original tires were:
Front Original Size: 255/35/21
Front New Size: 275/35/21
Rear Original Size: 275/35/21
Rear New Size: 295/35/21
Our goal was to get rid of the stretched look and go with a more normal tire.
We resolved several things:
No Stretched Tires
Closed the Wheel Well Gap with the Taller Tire
Added Wider Tires
Lowered the Road Noise

My tires on my performance model Y wore out and I went to discount tire and made the same exact modification and it’s been a night and day difference. The performance is not affected. In my opinion. The range is not affected in my opinion however, the right quality is significantly better and the car seems to drive smoother. I highly recommend this change

Awesome Video brother. Great explanations. I’m looking for a new set up on tires. Seems like your 275/295 is the norm that myp drivers are switching too. They say it’s a lot smoother ride, and that’s what I’m searching for. I’ve also seen videos where they do 275/35 fronts then 295/40 in the rear. I was thinking of trying the 40’s in the rear just for a super smooth ride. Any thoughts on the 40’s for the rear. Thank you In advance! Looks like “YL” I think I recognize those hills:)

I don’t think it’s necessary. The ride is absolutely great as is. I think if you go to 40’s that may look too tall on the car and look weird.

Any update on how the 40’s are doing? Just curious it’s time to replace my Yp 2022 rear tires

@@bigb-mt6fn I actually just went with the 275/35 in the front and 295/35 in the rear’s. This set up is a total game changer in the ride and feel so much more comfortable driving the car now. You don’t feel the nooks and crannies on the streets/freeway anymore. And the dreaded freeway reflectors anymore when you change lanes. (I really was hating it before). I read in the Tesla Forum one person said the 40’s rub in the rear with rear passengers. So I didn’t go that route. I picked up all four tires from eBay 700$ such a good deal. Just Make sure the tires have XL in the description and are speed rated. I mentioned it to another MYP owner and he said a tire shop quoted him 3500$ to replace his original sized tires. He’s going with eBay…lol. He noticed my tires were bigger. (I was getting my car aligned) He was tired of the bumpy ride too.

@@bigb-mt6fn I just added a reply to your question but it didn’t go under your conversation. I wasn’t sure how to respond back. Just search for it okay.

Will it effect the suspension's geometry? put the stress and damage in long run? will it reduce the mileage?
@x-coastie
@x-coastie 18 дней назад
I’m sure that it will have some effect. What, I don’t know for sure. We did increase the overall tire total diameter by 1.69 inches which closed the gap between it and the body. But I think it’s not that big of a deal. Why, tires start out at one total diameter and when they wear out it’s another total diameter. Also, different tire manufacturers, even if they’re the same size tire, might not be exactly the same as what you have. Example would be going from Michelin to Goodyear. I’ve seen no difference in mileage. It’s a lighter tire than the originals and I was expecting to maybe see an increase, but I’ve not.

How much of an impact on range, performande, and speedometer does this affect?
@x-coastie
@x-coastie 3 месяца назад
I’ve not seen any discernible difference in range at all. I was thinking the lighter weight of the new tires means less rotational weight means improved mileage. But as I said, I’ve not seen any difference. The speedometer is not off that I can tell. Performance is the same from a handling perspective. But the real difference is the much improved ride quality and tire noise! I know this isn’t all too helpful, but it’s what I know at this point.

Thanks for the content! A Tesla service manager told me that doing this will void the power train warranty, so I’ll wait to do this at 120,000 miles…I’m at 88,000 miles on my 2022 MYP. I’ve gotten 52K miles on fronts and 31K miles on rears…yes, a lot of highway miles, but I drive it like I stole it…so much fun! Just love this car!

I did same and notice a thumping noise from motors when accelerating and regen breaking. But when coasting no sound. Do you have that issue?
@x-coastie
@x-coastie Месяц назад
No I don’t. There must be something else wrong. Maybe take it back to the tire place to have them check it out.

Michelin AS4 are terrible, my personal opinion. It’s loud and not very efficient. That being said it looks amazing. I wish it was an EV tire.
