2022 Toyota Aygo X Review 

I’ve just placed an order for a 2024 Aygo X for my driving school. I’ve read hundreds of reviews, watched many video reviews and test driven a good few urban miles. It’s very near perfect for what it’s designed to do. Used around town with occasional motorway use, enough space to throw shopping in, easy parking, great fuel economy, reliable mechanicals, it’s not expensive, and you get a 10 year warranty if serviced by a Toyota agent.

I have an Argo X and it’s brilliant on fuel and a good small car , my only regret is I didn’t get heated seats etc on my exclusive . But it’s still a very safe car . Great room in the front but smaller in the back ok for children , other than that a good but slightly expensive car . I’m happy though 😊

Love my Aygo x. No problem on the motorway. Just leave it on adaptive cruise control at 70mph

You asked the question why no turbo. At the beginning you rightly stated that the engine will very likely have no issues. This is mainly because of no turbo. Bear in mind that the turbo jeopardises the good fuel economy. Check out real fuel economy on those 1 l turbo engines.

Regarding drum brakes, it's obvious they cut costs by utilising them but it's very sufficient for the rear as you don't need great power on the rear side when you brake. That said I do like disc brakes because of their aesthetic looks.

If you like driving fast then get it as you're less likely to go to speed which is exactly why I went for the old Aygo and not a fast car as I'm too dangerous in a fast car - lol

You only really use your rear brakes when you brake heavily and that is the main reason rear discs tend to rust. Always good to brake heavily once a week to keep them rust free.

The 'X' should be pronounced 'cross', not 'ex' btw.

I thought cvt got no gears?

Good little cars. However the engine is fine for one person driving only. Add any people and your going nowhere fast, and if you turn on the AC, you'll lose 20 bhp and the fuel economy.

Toyota failed big time with this Aygo.. Rear space is a complete garbage due to poor engineering

Excellent commentary thank you. You mentioned the rear drum brakes, parking brakes are inefficient on disc brakes as when the discs cool down they contract and the friction disappears with obvious consequences. With drum brakes it’s the opposite.

Manual gear shifting is optional right? You just put it in drive and use the gas pesal.

Saab had disc all round in 1969. CVT gearboxes only have one gear. The gear changes are fake. I've just bought one, manual and so far it is fine. Drive the car within its limits and you won't shouldn't have any problems. There's an air vent on top of the dash, not great but OK.

72 bhp is what a 1.6 Ford cortina 5 seater used to have. My repmobile went around the country and had @ family of 5 in it at other times. I had one of these as a courtesy car and my god I loved it although a manual. 60 mpg. 70bhp is plenty for normal driving. This engine is renowned for simplicity and reliability. Many Aygos, c1 etc with 150k miles on. Daughter has yaris 1.0 with 100k on all maintained by me. Rear drums are easy. Get two bolts for drum to remove it. Toyota rule 5:09

Can you get a space saver wheel in boot with jack

When I need a new car, I will possibly buy this one. Looks reliable and sensible Acceptable on acceleration but excellent mpg. I have a vw up at the moment, Acceptable on acceleration and excellent mpg and has been reliable.

Hello, the dealer told me that the Aygo X has a timing belt, someone claims it has a timing chain instead, who is right?

It's made cheaply with an old engine and old parts i.e rear drum brakes, but the asking price is 20,000. Its a complete rip-off you can look elsewhere for much better value.
