This is a Motormouth couple car review of the updates 2023 Toyota venza compact hybrid SUV. With excellent fuel economy and a modern design, the Toyota Venza is one hybrid that’s tough to pass up. There are some changes coming for 2023, is it worth waiting for the 2023 model? Let’s go through some of those changes. There is one important change for 2023 Toyota Venza that would make me want to wait, it will have the new Toyota Audio Multi-media system, this will be a great improvement and in the US, the 12.3” touchscreen with touch capacitive controls is standard on XLE models. In Canada, XLE models already have this as standard equipment. This system allows for dual Bluetooth phone connectivity with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto. In addition, Venza LE and XLE models will get a 7” multi-information display instead of 4.2” and the top trim a 12.3” digital instrument cluster. In the US, the 10” head-up display will now be standard on the top trim, it is standard in the 2022 model Toyota Venza in Canada. There will also be a new Toyota Venza Nightshade Edition based on the Venza XLE trim level with black exterior accents, 19” black wheels and available in three colours, Celestial Black, Wind Chill Pearl and Ruby Flare Red. Other changes include, LED fog lights now standard on XLE models and above and the Star Gaze fixed panoramic sunroof will not only be available on the top trim but also on the Nightshade model. Some good news, the 2023 Toyota Venza gets an 8-way power passenger seat on the top Limited trim, so finally there is height adjustment but only on the top model. The Toyota Venza has a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine matched to an ECVT with Hybrid Synergy Drive, 219 net horsepower, standard AWD. You can’t beat the fuel economy on this Venza hybrid, it gets 5.9L/100 km, 40 MPG city and 6.4L/100 km, 37 MPG highway. The 2022 model starts at $39,150 CAD/$33,240 USD, XLE $45,150 CAD/$36,775 USD and the Limited $48,550 CAD/$40,730 USD.
Competitors to the Toyota Venza include the Toyota RAV4 hybrid, Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid, Kia Sorento hybrid, Ford Escape hybrid and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

One of my friends has a Venza and loves it. I often forget this model exists....but then I see a great review like yours and I'm reminded about Toyota CSUVs...oh yeah that's right...its an option..but I'm not excited or inspired by it. Seems like it still feels like a rental car forgetably moving you from point A to B.

Vehicle should have minimum 235 HP. 55 sq. ft. does not concern me as we do not have any "little people" in our family. Now if Mazda will put a Toyota Hybrid in the CX-5 this would be nice. Looks are wonderful in comparison to the RAV4.

In the "For your consideration" part of the video, it seems the used 2018 car was more expensive than the other 3 new cars. Wonder if it is because of the way the market is right now (you have to wait months for a new car). Not a good time to buy a new car I guess.

7.5s 0-60, "AWD" that puts 24% of the car's power to the rear wheels, 0 towing capability meaning insufficiently robust transmission. Sure, you get nice gas mileage, but it costs $4k after 12 years to change the battery means most of your savings goes straight back to the dealership. At this price point, plenty of other cars with a nice interior: basically all Mazdas, Subaru Limited+ trims, Hyundai, etc. etc. It's no wonder this car's getting the axe next year.

We love our '21 Venza Limited. We got the blueprint blue with the grey interior and it is beautiful. I like the electrochroamatic sunroof but I do agree with Andrea and would like the sunroof to open. Our gas mileage has been incredible for the size of vehicle. I often get city trips as low as 3.7 L/100km. Since getting the Venza at the end of August, we are averaging 6.3 L/100km through mostly winter driving (and that is half the gas usage from our previous cars!). We have been very surprised at how nice the Softex seats are and how comfortable they are. I have to say that living in a city, we rarely 'gun it' and so we find the Venza to be a very quiet vehicle. On the highway, we hear the engine a bit when accelerating to speed but once at speed, the Venza is quiet. My biggest complaint has been the creaky noise we sometimes get from the C pillar and the cross bar of the sunroof when driving over some road bumps. This is our first Toyota (after having an Acura and a Mazda) and so we were expecting better Toyota build quality. The only other glitch I can think of is the weather app on the infotainment centre seems to show for another city than we live in (the other city is about 10 km away). It will switch to my city when I'm further from this other city. The dealer checked other Venzas and found the app did the same thing in them. Weird. Easy solution, just get rid of the app from the screen. Apple CarPlay does the job. In the end, we got just what we wanted. A vehicle that allows us easy access, lots of room and great gas mileage. Thank you for a great video Andrea and Zack. **An update (Dec 30/23) We are now averaging 5.72 L/100 km or 41.1 mpg after 2 years of driving our Venza. Still love it and blown away by the great mileage.

I've had experience with Kia and Hyundai's in the past, and from my experience, they are well featured cars that seem to be decent for at least 5 years. However, after about year 7, they start to have many issues. I bought extended warranties so repairs were covered under that, but the dealership experience was always terrible. When I chose to replace my last vehicle, I chose the Venza Limited for a few reasons. One, I am hoping the Toyota dealership experience is better (it couldn't get worse than our experience at Kia). Secondly, I wanted something good on fuel since I figured fuel prices would increase over time (they have) and I wanted something with long term reliability, which Toyota Hybrids are known for. Strong resale value was also a nice added benefit. I've had my Venza now for almost 10 months and it's been great. No issues with it. I did buy some Michelin Cross Climate2 all weather tires for it last fall and they were great all winter (Southwestern Ontario) and saves me money changing and storing tires every spring and fall (which costs about $250/year). I sold the stock tires online to recoup a bit of money back. While the Star Gazer roof is a gimmick, it's actually a great feature. Roofs that open are mostly useless since the amount of wind noise/buffeting is always excessive and if you forget to close it, you can get bugs, dirt, rain in your vehicle. Also, the large glass roof lets in a lot of light to brighten up the cabin (since it's mostly dark in colour) and the "frosted" look prevents glare from the sun. While I do prefer buttons/knobs over the touch buttons, you do get used to them pretty quickly and in most cases, you set things once and don't need to fiddle with them much. The steering wheel does have buttons to control some common things if that helps. The fuel economy is outstanding and is very impressive. On my 26km work commute in city traffic during the spring/summer/fall, I've seen as low as 4.5L/100 kms (52 mpg). Fuel economy is a bit worse in the winter (since the engine runs a bit more often to keep the cabin warm), but it's often still in the 6s (35-40 mpg). Keep in mind, regular gas cars also use more fuel in the colder months too, so you'll use more fuel regardless. For comparison's sake, our Sorento with the 2.0L Turbo engine, in the city, is typically in the high 12s or low 13s (comparable to other V6 powered compact CUVs), so the Venza uses half to a third the fuel.

I have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata Limited that has become a money pit within the past two years - including an engine recall! I've lost trust in Hyundai's longterm quality and your comment kinda supports my fears. Unfortunately, Venzas are nowhere to be found at any dealers. I guess I'll have to hold on until inventory improves, like...I dunno...maybe a year from now. :(
@jeffer1101
@jeffer1101 2 года назад
@@jasonstewart50 Yea, everything is tough to get now. You can consider the RAV4 Hybrid too, although they are likely just as hard to find (but are less expensive). Either is a great choice. When it comes time to replace our Sorento, we'll consider an EV but I'm hoping the selection increases and prices come down.

The Star Gaze is a gimmick, but it's a neat, and possibly good gimmick. If I were to look at the Venza I would get the LE. A salesman I talked to had a Venza hybrid and I asked what the difference(vs the hybrid Rav4 )was. And he said, quiter and less offroady(more forgiving ride on the road). My advice is to consider the Le Venza, if you are looking at the xle or se Rav4 Hybrid.

TSS 2.0 when it launched new in 2021 when other Toyota vehicles started offering TSS 2.5+ is a very questionable move by Toyota. Star Gaze roof is a gimmick. No tow rating and realistic hitch even just for bikes is odd. Not entirely sure Toyota has completely addressed the gas tank issue either. A very sharp looking and desirable vehicle marred by a few glaring issues. If the Venza can survive, probably won’t give it another look until it receives a redesign.

My wife and I looked at the Venza. I am 6'3", my wife is a very slim 5'. One thing we really liked about the Venza was that both of us, despite our height desparaties, were able to comfortably drive the vehicle with the correct seating adjustments. We were both leaning toward purchasing the Venza despite the minuses like less space over the RAV4 and that funky HVAC/infotainment setup using no physical buttons. But, we discovered the 2022 RAV4 Hybrid Limited now has dual power seats, that was enough to change our minds enough to put an order for the RAV4. I still don't understand why Toyota didn't improve the Venza to give it more interior volume in the back and keep the real buttons. We did drive a 2022 Limited Venza with an advanced technology package at a local dealership. Here in the United States that package adds a Heads Up Display into the $42,500 USD MSRP. Too rich for my wallet, but worth it if you want to have a BMW level technological sophistication with a Toyota Reliability.

I have a ‘24 Venza Limited and it’s a great car. Very comfortable, excellent interior, great JBL sound system, terrific fuel economy, all the bells and whistles, built in Japan, etc. The only minor criticism I have of it is that, while it is fairly quiet for the most part, the road noise can get pretty elevated on poorly paved highways. I think it has more to do with the Bridgestone Ecopia tires that came with mine. Those tires are designed to maximize fuel economy, but sacrifice quietness as a compromise. I’ve heard when owners change to higher quality tires, the road noise is much improved. Overall, though, I love it!

I just don’t see the sense in getting a Venza over the Rav 4? When the Venza was a crossover that had more cargo room due to the missing third row, it made sense. When there was a six cylinder option with towing capacity, again, it made sense. But now it’s a 4 cylinder, 5 passenger vehicle without a working sunroof?…I just don’t think it’s well thought out.

That’s my biggest complaint on the RAV4. I’d rather have you review the road noise over the engine noise or both. I drive 3-4000 mile a month so road noise is my primary concern

The Venza has more sound-deadening materials, particularly under the cargo mat in the back. It might also have better acoustic glass in the windshield, but I am not sure.

Toyota announced this week they would be short 100,000 vehicles produced this month due to chip shortage. They will still be producing 800,000 units. Back in the day we used manual seats roll down windows and levers and cables to operate the hvac. Crude by today's standards but that's what I want! Way cheaper and always available. All these safety features are fantastic but still is t stopping the rising death rate on our roads. The latest data says over 40,000 deaths in 2021 in N America. Almost 10,000 due to not using the safety tech including seatbelts..

I drive between Kelowna, BC and Rock Creek, BC several times a month. I find great pleasure diving this road in an cool early evening during the summer with the sunroof open. I really enjoy the light and fresh air of a sunroof along this route because of the forest that you can see through the roof. And the smell. It's wonderful! Zack is so wrong.

That stupid center console with the start button and the USB plugs way in the back sucks. It ruins the vehicle for me. I also hated the AC controls in the touch screen totally unnecessary. Like the simplicity of the RAV 4 in this respect. I also thought it was a bit noisy under power and really wasn't very quick. Ended up with a CX30 Turbo Premium and getting 32 MPG out of a tank. The Venza is at least 7k more which will buy quite a bit of fuel

we bought a 2022 venza and love it. we are averaging 47.6 combined mpg. the only thing i dislike and would like to talk to the engineer who designed it is the rear turn signal light. it is down below the bumper, why wouldn't they put in the light bar in the middle of the rear hatch ! Other than that we really like the car.
@alsheremeta
@alsheremeta 7 месяцев назад
The rear turn signal lights are probably down there to separate them from the brake lights. On some vehicles, the turn signals all but disappear when the brake lights are on.

Great review and very timely and relevant for us currently. We are in the US and looking at the Venza XLE and Kia Sportage SX Prestige hybrid. Both come in around $38.5 US. We get more with the Kia but still a bit torn. We test drove a Venza yesterday but still have not been able to find a Kia hybrid test vehicle in our area to compare. Do you guys have an opinion on the drive quality (ans overall quality) of both vehicles? I suspect the Venza will hold its value better which is one of the main reasons we are considering it. Any opinions on how the new Sportage will fare in reliability and depreciation areas? Any insight is very appreciated.

Lexus began the ugly front end trend in 2013 and upped the ante every year until they took the crown as worst looking vehicles in the road, (known as the Aztec award) not to be outdone by the Japanese BMW jumped on the trend and putout successively uglier vehicles until they became truly horrific and took the Aztec crown from Toyota, I see with the RX350 and the Venza Toyota is serious about getting the dreadfully ugly front end mantle back. Well done Toyota?

From the videos on the Venza, it looks like the Subaru Forester has more space for taller drivers. That is a drawback of the Venza. It would be great if Toyota would tune the Venza to compete directly against the Kia Sorento - in size, space, cargo, etc.

Even on the NX you have to get the top trim level, IIRC, to get heated rear seats. Kind of ridiculous for a 50k+ vehicle (over 60 by the time you go to that top model)
@mart0225
@mart0225 2 года назад
Also have to go top model (in the US) to get the 360° camera. That’s an essential feature for me. However, the top level NX is a questionable value to me.

That electronic roof just screams expensive to replace when it breaks. Really wish auto manufacturers would stop putting this garbage in vehicles when it’s not really wanted by most. I wish they would also make the car’s maintenance easier and less expensive. Like why should I need to speed $1600+ for a headlight that only needs an LED module to be replaced.

as an über driver, lack of a volume knob wouldn't bother me at all. I have volume buttons on the steering wheel, and almost never touch the knob, only time it's touched is by space invaders who often mistake my temperature knob for a volume knob, good riddance.. also I don't think the sun roof to star gaze roof is a gimmick, I remember when the Nissan nv200 had a big sunroof for the passengers, if the shade is opened the sun glare from it was awful so it would always stay closed. maybe with this feature you could actually take in light from the roof without harsh sun. Also, does the 2023 still have it's rear turn signals in the bumper where no one can see them? when are they changing that?

Yes, it is a gimmick! Our cracked with only 5,000 miles. Dealer said it is from rock and wants $8,000 to repair. Hope my insurance will cover. We could only buy the limited with the sunroof, I don't know what do, we are afraid it will happen agan.

May auto sales down 25% in the USA...you go to dealerships and there are zero cars...when you do find a car, its got $10,000 markup. No one is buying cars anymore. We're all waiting for dealers and auto manufactures to come to their senses

I don't understand why some 2023 models have safety sense 2.0, some 2.5 and some 3.0. Isn't all just a software version or is it limited by some HW components? If it is just a SW, why cannot we get a free update support and over the air updates. This is all so 2010, but we are talking about 2023 model

Saw this in another video, but this suv unlike the Rav4 and other toyotas is actually built in the tahara plant in Japan. True JDM car where the old unbreakable landcruisers and 4runners were built which is probably one reason why it feels more refined like a lexus.

Great review of the Venza and props for including other similar models for us to consider. If the Venza is "Lexus-lite" are the Hyundai models "Genesis-lite'? I'm looking right now to find a new SUV. No plug-in EVs. I live in N Florida and the charging infrastructure is pitiful as it is in most areas. I'll take a regenerative braking system and that Venza's superb gas mileage any day! Wow! With our increased gas prices higher milage is very appealing. However, it doesn't take over the substance of the vehicle. Any recommendations like the NX, RX, or loaded Venza? I love your review style and having two opinions. Thank you from your very Southern neighbor!
