I was an aircraft plant manager, this explanation is in my wheelhouse. These have proprietary processes to make your wheels. They are heated to between 200-350 deg Fahrenheit (most likely) and then formed in a form die. Your terminology is correct. There are some that would argue this is a better compromise anyway, as they are not as hard as forged, and are more flexible and absorb shock as they aren’t as rigid. I’m sure they are age hardened (frozen for time) then sent to chemical processing. Those recipes are usually from decades of development. I’m very impressed with how much you know, it’s hard for people outside of the industry to understand some of what has and can be done. Very impressed. Thank you.

I recently got my 07 Z and have been having a great time running 275's on the 9.5" wide Cosmis Racing wheels the car came with. I was initially thinking that might be a little too much meat for my level of track experience, but they're really growing on me. I would have liked briefly experiencing the lack of grip of a smaller tire, but I didn't feel like living with a full set just to experiment. Instead my shortcomings were, like you said in your "how to build a track car" video, brakes and cooling. I think I'll have those better sorted for the next event and I'm looking forward to it. Anyways, I don't have a question, but I just wanted to thank you for the great videos. I'm really trying to consume all sorts of track knowledge from various sources so your stuff has been great. Everything from your TT experiences, your decision making process into things like power, and your Z-centric information videos. I appreciate ya!

Can you run 18x10.5 +15 square with 295/35 with no rubbing or spacers? I have the akebono bbk, just want to be sure they fit. What other wheels would you recommend other than the rpf1 for track? They are so popular for a reason but I want something different. I really like the konig hexadorm

Yeah you could run that depending on alignment and ride height. Might need a mild fender roll which is easy and safe to do.

Quick question, what are you running for spring rates? might decide to switch mine up after this season Hey man, just a heads up on the +3mm spacers from some personal experience... I used to have a set of XXR 531 18x11+20 that needed +3 spacers to clear the upright, per Brian Peters. He was correct. I recently bought the Enkei RS055-RR 18x11 +16 and ran the 3mm spacers which worked on the street but at the track they deflected just enough to barely scrape my upright/spindle with the wheel weight that clips on to the inside of the wheel. I had to move to 5mm spacers for those. This actually busted my front right hub and shaved the weights so I need to go get them re balanced.
@2THPWR
@2THPWR 2 года назад
Thanks for the info. I run 14kg/mm front and 6kg/mm rear. I prefer strong mechanical grip to limiting body movement and roll.

Great choice. I have an 07 HR with stock wheels and just bought 19" x9.5 +18 , 19" x10.5 +17 with federal 595 RS RR, running 245, 35, 19 on the front and 275, 35, 19 on the back. The wheels are flow forged and look amazing. My question is: apart from the much better grip - the acceleration has been noticably decreased with VERY noticable rolling resistance, not to mention VERY noticable tyre noise (80-95kph is worst). Am I missing something or did I just choose a very heavy/noisy tyre? I understand the wheel diameter is larger and there is much more contact patch but still, this is pretty bad. I have had an alignment and the over all diameter is the same so no gearing difference. Any ideas??
@2THPWR
@2THPWR 2 года назад
1) check the overall tire heights. That seems to be good. A taller tire will lengthen your gear ratios. 2) weigh the original wheels and tires vs the weight of the aftermarket wheels and tires. Can just use a bathroom scale. If you wanted to you could also just get all that information from Google. 3) could be an alignment problem that is made more noticeable by mounting wider tires. 4) the weight could be the same but rotational moment of inertia is worse because the weight is more focused on the outside of the wheel (unlikely) 5) it’s not actually worse. Your senses are wrong and you need to compare actual data
@ryanscanlan9875
@ryanscanlan9875 2 года назад
@@2THPWR Thank you mate. So tyre diameter is the same ( infact .1" smaller) The new wheel & tyre do weight more (mostly the wider tyre) so weight is further out. I think it must be the alignment as rolling resistance is next level. Legend.

i have a TE37s 18x11-7 square set up. i can only get the front wheels on if i camber like 4%. I've had lots of tire wear. I can see you went with a positive offset. I just ordered 9.5 in the front now. how does the car perform on wet with 11's up front?
@2THPWR
@2THPWR 2 года назад
I have run 10.5 + 15 for years. I always run about 3.5 to 3.7 degrees of camber. I haven’t had the 11 wide on yet. But the car performs much better the more front tire it has.

@2THPWR
@2THPWR 2 года назад
@@gtbmw135i I’m definitely getting way less than 1000 miles. Unfortunately with tires performance and durability are often mutually exclusive properties. I only care about speed and how much grip can be generated. That’s best with a 295 or even 305 width tire up front and about 3.7 degrees of camber depending on the track. But if you were to use that on your daily commute it’s going to eat tires, there’s no way around it.

@@2THPWR cryogenic is when they freeze everything to minus 310 and slowly bring the tempreture back up. They do this to engine components and the block to extend the life of the engine to 3 times as much. WPC is basically micro shot peening. It hardens the surface of the metals and allows oil to stick better to components, a lot of people who race do this to their engines and swear that it last them a couple seasons as oppose to having to do a complete overhaul or refresh every year or even mid season..... that being said you dont need to do it. It just helps extend the life of an engine by a lot
