2022 TREK FUEL EX 8 GEN 5 | 6 MONTH REVIEW AND RIDE | THOUGHTS ON GEN 6 FUEL EX

After riding the Trek Fuel EX 8 all summer, I have some solid thoughts on it's overall performance and value. It's a strong contender for a great all around bike but have i been too spoiled with higher end bikes?

Good video 💯 Is this bike worth to buy in 2023-2024? I ask because my local Trek dealer give me almost proper offer to this bike🤔 Cheers From Finland.

I really enjoyed this bike and found not issues with it, the new one it much heavier so unless you go to carbon i see this as a great buy still

So after 4 months would you prefer this or a ‘22 Top Fuel 8 on tight slow technical single track? High set up and may be 2.3 tires.

A half pound heavier for the Fuel EX 8 Gen 6 ? Wishful thinking. More like 4 pounds heavier. Just got the last Gen 5 Fuel EX 8 at my dealer. Was thinking about holding out for a Gen 6 model but its way more expensive and way heavier, plus its at least till January to take delivery if ordering now. I don't plan on any super aggressive riding, just wanted a good all around trail bike and I found it. For me the little added squish ( 10mm front and rear ) is not worth the added cost and weight penalty.

Yeah I've just seen the specs and I'm a little surprised at the weight but I guess it's a bigger bike now

I agree; I purchased the '22 9.7 and have upgraded it to full XT with a Performance Elite 36 140mm fork (should have gone with 34 Fit4 as I had this on my '15 EX8 and loved it and lightens the front end considerably, at slow speeds it's not nearly as graceful/nimble. I get the geo on the '15 model is more an XC bike nowadays). My M/L with upgrades weighs 30.5 lbs. The new stock Gen6 9.7 medium is a full 2.5 lbs heavier than last year's model, according to their site. I understand it's a bigger bike, but this is now more enduro than a trail bike. The weight of the stock 36 Performance Grip fork is the same as the Performance Elite/Factory Grip2, upgrading only gets you more performance gains. The Deore components are boat anchors too; you will save 1/2 pound just by going with SLX/XT cranks alone. The Deore brakes are another issue with the lower-spec bikes; if you come from SLX or XT, you will be disappointed.

You can add spacers to the shocks to help with travel. I want one bad

So any issues with the knock block around tight switch backs. I like the frame and suspension but worry I’ll get hung up going around the 3 ft radii east coast turns. The new TF has the KB 2.0 with more turn arc but less suspension. And 8 is a SID.

@@goodluckchrisclark I like 2.0 but I thought the Gen 5 have the older one with less sweep. That’s what I saw with a test ride of one and a TF 2022. Is yours converted?
