Fun fact about the rebranding... RH started out as an actual hardware store. They sold historical doorknobs, hinges, etc for people restoring Victorians and Craftsman houses. The original store is still there on 4th St in Berkeley and there are several other design stores, including Design Within Reach, one of the earliest Crate & Barrel, and CB2 stores.

I also remember! I had a catalog of all of the hardware that they offered. If my mind isn't escaping me, I feel like their products were very industrialized, lots of iron? These news pieces are really to die for. So sophisticated, but, at the same time, giving off that "come hither vibe". Come hither I would. 😏 And, yes, you guys should make the trip to San Fran and share!

Yes, I live near there, and have been going in that Restoration for years. I remember their doorknobs and drawer pulls, and their original prices. Their evolution has been fascinating to watch. They’ve definitely become an incredible design force and masters of marketing! I use them for inspiration, but can’t touch their prices.

I never went white and gray. Found it cold in feel, and the painted woodwork cheap-looking. So glad to see this trend toward the warm and natural. Thank you for sharing! And yes- totally worth a trip to SF 😉

I just sold my 1915 Craftsman period home, I restored it back to its glory with a hint of modern for updating, I bought door knobs, light fixtures, etc from Restoration Hardware that were period perfect for the home, and I got many ideas from their catalogs that they would send me. They are expensive, but I loved what they had to offer. My house sold in 5 days, it was hard to leave a home that I put 20 years into renovating, and a ton of money, but I love my new 1968 home now that I just finished updating and making it mine, love the location better, so it was a nice trade off.

Yes marble is without a doubt beautiful. But for me, the warmth of travertine wins every time. These pieces and room settings are simply divine.

Gorgeous! Coming from a more traditional background, I like that you mentioned small/simple ways to incorporate the warm, contemporary look - changing out an area rug or displayed pottery and having more asymmetry. Please continue to show us how to capture the vibe of this new direction! Love:)

The browns, creams, taupes and beiges have always been the basis of my Michigan home. I have loved them for years and I never tire of them. I have medium brown hardwood floors to further bring out the warmth. I love cozy, like you! And you have taught me so much more about textures and elements and minimalism which I adore. Travertine in a small piece maybe, but so impractical for a majority of homeowners… and completely out of reach. Also heavy and difficult to move around and rearrange. The couches are sculptural and pretty to look at but how real life are they for families and for back support? The best part of the contemporary RH is getting ideas only in scaled down pieces. How can alabaster be incorporated? The texture of the travertine in a small piece of decor? A few rounded chairs?

Honestly this whole era of furniture design reminds me of the furniture in Bettlejuice that's very sculpture driven, as you've said in another video. Specifically the open back chair. I'm not saying it isn't attractive in a space, but it definitely seems like something we will almost make fun of ourselves for in year from now. It's not the vibe. lol loving your channel.

RH offers a great lesson in scale and silhouette. All of the pattern appears in the natural elements -- stone, wood, etc. The textiles are all quiet yet elegant solids. Very serene and tranquil vibe. 😍

I've always felt that RH furniture would be perfect in an office or hotel lobby setting. I feel its too large scale and masculine to really scale down to the homes most of us live in!! I did like the wicker chairs however!!!! k

Thanks for letting us know about RH Contemporary. (They are about to get flooded with source book requests!) I am so excited to see brown tones and natural materials become popular. I grew up in a home filled with mostly antiques and antique wood furniture, but I've always liked simple contemporary styles more. In my own home, I have been making due with a lot of furniture from when I first moved out that I don't like. I am excited to see what companies and artists come out with. I can't wait to pick up a few pieces that will stay in my home until they are antiques!

Yes! It is definitely breath taking. It just an amazing color mix with the travertine stone.. very luxe. I actually own a sofa table that the top is travertine and metal legs, I was about to get rid of it but after seeing these RH decore. I am definitely going to keep it. Love, love, love it. 💕 💗

So after 2 years of boucle, the Cloud sofa and creamy whites, the next upcoming trend are browns. I'm partial to mixed wood tones in furniture, not so much in soft furnishings of couches. Interesting that black iron pendants are on the way out, to be replaced with brass. My mother always used to say, 'be careful with a lot of brown because it is symbolic of insecurity'. Economically inflation and interest rates are on the rise, etc. I find it amusing that furniture is returning to 'matchy-matchy' pieces, rather than individual and 'odd one out' layouts, which has also been a huge trend in the last year.

I'm also considering how to incorporate these beautiful colors and shapes into my more traditional home. In my case, I think toning down the more elaborate patterns, like in my living room rug, may help:)

The weird thing about this for me is how you have a new-found love for beige, because you & Jack did a video not long ago where you made fun of beige and said you hated it. I distinctly remember Jack using the analogy of those Christmas Vacation movie characters Todd & Margo (played by Julia Louis-Dreyfuss) and their awful beige living room. It looked almost exactly like the new RH beige collection.

For about eight years my colors have been charcoal gray and cream. I love fabrics, (multiple textures) millwork (favorite is board and batten) and wood (walnut). Med Century/Scandinavian is my comfort level. Thank you for encouraging individuals to find your style. 🙌🏻

Most of all I'm just loving the warmth it all brings and I know that is something I'd love to bring into my own home as I purchased a home with grey laminate wood floors and grey toned white walls. After 2 years I'm finally done furnishing and I'd love to budget to change the flooring and paint next.

The original store was in Eureka CA founded in 1979. I grew up in Eureka and visited the store many times. It was an interesting mixed of salvaged materials and new.

Very warm and inviting, but appears that it would fit better in an upscale hotel than a home. Very monotone... I see it as going out of style like the gray everything trend we had for a while. But for a little while it will be popular. The wood accents will be around for a long time. The other brown everything--not so much. People love color too much to settle for a one toned theme for long... Color can reflect personailty... I don't see that here... My opinion anyway... I agree with the other comments that the furniture is so large that it will not fit in most homes and seem more adaptable to hotels/business lobbies/upscale office buildings or large homes... 😊

I got the catalogue yesterday so excited by this video. I also got my CB2 Camden sofa delivered yesterday. I had ordered white but ended up getting the rye brown instead due to supply chain problems. Now I feel better!

Yum! Yum! Yum! I’m so happy about the warm, earthy beiges and browns I’ve been seeing! Camel coats have always been one of my favorite design inspirations. And coffee- such a gorgeous color! I think the travertine is beyond gorgeous, and I would choose that material over the marble (strictly theoretically speaking). And I would probably always choose wood over any other material. The lighting is so stunning, too!!

My budget doesn't allow for RH furniture but I love to see the trends. I am keeping my warm white walls but will definitely welcome the warm colour scheme. Didn't ever jump on the grey wagon so am ready to embrace this instead. Gold, toffee, honey, ochre - Ahhhh.... So lovely.
