Waited patiently for the unboxing and really enjoyed the box almost as much as the shoes. I didn't really appreciate the art of skin stitching until I watched a shoemaker do it. This takes an incredible amount of skill and patience. I don't want to know what they cost, but I'm certain they are worth it.
I’ve had two pairs of Vass. Unfortunately I’ve not found a last from Vass that fits me well. They’re particularly unforgiving on feet with collapsed arches. The handmaking process they undertake is solid and I view them as a great example in the relative entry spectrum of the handwelted segment of the industry. The leathers are somewhat stiff and the soles well done. The finishing on the two pair I had was good, not great. In they’re a very good handwelted factory made shoe. Not as refined as a bespoke shoe, but also not priced to be. Vass did a great thing during the pandemic, and sold a lot of shoes at reduced prices so he could keep paying his workers during the shutdown. Seems like a very solid, family oriented company that makes a good product. I’d own some if I could find a pair that fit.
