@@dawidl5007 David, I'm really sorry, but after reading your reply and thinking about what you said, I can only come to the conclusion that what you might have meant by that is "Yes".
For the next repair, use fiberglass mat for your first layer. Then alternate fabric/mat. Last layer should be mat because it's sandable. Fabric isn't sandable (you're cutting the threads and end up with a series of fiberglass "U" which have no strenght). You can add bondo or gelcoat before sanding to fill up the pinholes and low points. If you want to use fabric only, you need to use epoxy. And a filler of sort at the end to have something to sand. Fabric alone will delaminate with polyester resin. Also, use PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) at the end to seal your resin or gelcoat from air so they cure fully. PVA forms a temporary plastic film you can wash off with water the next day. Otherwise the ouside layer of the resin will stay tacky and clogg your sandpaper. Cheers !
@@AndrewCamarata I would suggest you keep epoxy resin around the shop all the time instead of polyester. Epoxy resin is more expensive but it sticks to almost anything. Polyester is fairly limited. I have used a brand named “East System” for a lot of years and never had a comeback.
some of his videos are entertaining to watch but seriously if you're not being hyperbolic then you should really try to figure out where and how your life went wrong ! there should be way more days than there isn't that are better spent NOT watching other people enjoy themselves and rather YOU should be out having your own fun ! 🤦🏻♂️
I've watched several of Andrew's videos now and I have to give him credit for the equanimity he has with constant mechanical breakdowns. That's a level of patience I can't fathom, but I can appreciate it.
Andrew, I've come to enjoy spending time with you while you work on stuff. I've experienced a lot of the same type of field engineering, and really like your determination and ingenuity. One small piece of advice, if I may, please consider wearing a respirator when you sand. I've worked in customized manufacturing for over 30 years and from 1st hand and observed experience, your 60 year old self will thank you. Very respectfully, Tim
Hello Andrew, I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to make these videos, i have a small landscaping and drainage company in Bella Vista, Arkansas, I’m the only employee, our two year old son absolutely loves watching you and Cody and Blue !!! You have a great helper with you also. Wishing you and yours the very best for 2023 !!!!! Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming !!!! Thank you
If you can go from site work to running heavy equipment to working on wave runners holy cow the amount of knowledge and how he just gets right to it is astounding. Love the work AC
If you have a mechanical aptitude, it applies towards anything mechanical. Andrew obviously has tons of it. So much in fact that he is able to move from thing to thing without even thinking about it much. He also has tons of experience and the ability to work it out which is in my opinion the very definition of intelligence.
FYI, that's not a design defect with the GP1800. It's intentional. That's a racing ski, so the hull is really thin to cut weight. If you want a thick hull that you can beat on, Kawasaki makes the strongest one and they use gelcoat instead of paint. It would be a lot better for the way you ride.
@@timr86868 Not anymore. They started phasing out NanoXcel in 2021 for exactly this reason. With the exception of the racing skis, they're going back to traditional fiberglass because it's a lot more durable. The 2022 FX is SMC fiberglass now. The EX is SMC fiberglass with the exception of the EX-R and the JetBlaster.
Thanks for taking us along with you! Lovely place - I could really get into old historical places like that Inn. Looked like a relaxing & quiet place to slow down and recharge for the weekend. Glad you two had a great time.
36:50 This reminded me of Bob Ross when he had a baby squirrel in his shirt pocket he named Peapod. I’ve never seen a squirrel just swimming around and being so friendly; that little guy was adorable!
When mixing filler and hardener, put the filler on a flat surface and make a loose flat circular shape like an uncooked cookie. then the hardener goes across the diameter of the circle once in a straight line, that method usually gives you a good ratio Great vids, cheers
I grew up in cornwall and Bannermans was always prohibited access. Would get arrested back then for going there. I’ve since moved so I really appreciate the shots of it. It’s also crazy how the Newburgh waterfront has changed!
The Summer of 2022, the Summer of Love for Andrew and Samantha. Too bad it's over I enjoyed seeing you two together. Very cool places to visit on that river.
That looked like an Awesome place to visit Thank you for letting us go with you and Samantha on you 2 day trip alway's enjoy being around and what you have to show us thank you .
Well Andrew, watching from Ireland 🇮🇪 RU-vidr myself, got my inspiration from watching you and still do. Your a legend worldwide. Have a safe and happy 2023 mate. PS looking forward to seeing the crusher running when the snow melts 👍
Andy, out of all the years I have been watching your channel this is the first time I have ever seen you take a vacation, IT'S ABOUT TIME. good for you, that's what great companionship does for you. Hold on tight my friend it's going to be one hell of a ride. Oh, by the way, great video too..
A great trip on the Hudson, was especially impressed with the Shelbourne Farms Inn, would love to stay there one day. Thanks for the great video of you both having a nice time.
Looks like you had a great time. I'm an old time body shop owner, and I cringed when the bondo came out. Bondo is made with talc, and talc is an absorbent, like speedy-dry. Next time you fix it, use a waterproof body filler. When folks would try to fix their own body rot it would usually get worse, because the bondo absorbed moisture and kept it next to the metal. Great videos, I really enjoy them
Andrew, I'm relatively new to your channel and watching as many as I can to catch up to your latest. I just wanted to say, I admire you for what you have done going from working for the postal service, to doing what you do today. You went out there and grabbed what you wanted to do with both hands, and you've embraced that ever since. You work dammned hard and also play hard and I assume along the way you made a financial success of it all. Well done Andrew.
@@4lifejeph Dan is also a RU-vidr in upstate NY. Dan and his son, Jesse, helped Andrew add on to the Castle. That was a epic 3 hour video. Dan’s wife, mrs W, is and ultra distance trail runner, singer, musician, song writer. Ok now I sound like I know too much.
I love the machines and construction projects but I will watch a Camarata travel vlog ANY TIME! I was cracking up at the "farther" vs "further" conundrum!🤣You two are adorable together!
Andrew you are the best person so kind I never heard a bad word in your videos it's a dream to have a friend like you I will never going to stop you watching love your videos. I wish to work with good people.😃😃😃
That estate looks amazing to experience! Tonight my wife and I are leaving on a trip for our anniversary, we are staying in the guest home of a large private estate that belongs to someone who owes us a favor. The guest home looks in pictures like it's newly remodeled with top of the line everything. So excited 😊
thank you for another awesome video Andrew. this is the exact definition of what it's like to live the American dream. great camera work as always. Its nice to see the girl having a great time, she will remember these moments as the highlights of her life as she grows old.
Lake Champlain is my neck of the woods awesome to see you up this way, Valcour Island is awesome there are still cannon balls littered around it from the naval battle there during the revolutionary war
I've taken to wearing PPE when sanding anything. Instead of always trying to determine if I should or shouldn't, might as well for the few minutes and never thinking about it again.
Sanding fiberglass without breathing protection WILL lead to seriously lung issues. I had a friend who didn't listen when I told him to. He's now on oxygen the rest of his life no more time out in his boat he fiberglassed several times. The same with grinding or danding pretty much anything. Out lungi have no filter capacity. Sanding and breathing rust can actually kill you.
@@devinjohnson8623 At work we grind tons of stainless steel, which gives off hexavalent chromium but noone wears masks, it's one of those things people take for granted. I'd rather look funny and not breath that all day.
💐💐💐💐 Anyone see the flowers and think of when Andrew showed his fake flowers from Castle? “Don’t have to water these, and they look good all year long, or something like that “. 😂😂😂 Great Video! Videos are even better with Andrew talking!
Fibreglass thing I saw a while back which is super useful. Cut up some 1" square of fibre, then pull it apart into just the threads. Mix that into a pot of resin and use that for the initial repair, like a paste. Then lay sheets over the top at the end.
Hi Andrew Happy New Year buddy to you and yours. Looking forward to your content for 2023. A trick a gardening buddy of mine and I have found the resin works really well on the under side of mower decks clean out thoroughly then paint on stops grass sticking and rotting the decks.
12:00 I had to lift a waverunner off of a trailer this past summer. You make it look easy. And now I'm not as concerned about the scratch I put in the hull. I bought a 2 person airhead this summer and it had holes in the folds out the box from the factory. I felt bad returning it because I bought it from a small local retailer. He was happy to help, we filled another one in the store and that one leaked bad also. He upgraded me to a 3 seater for no extra cost just my inconvenience traveling back and forth again. That one took all day to leak enough air out that it needed more so i kept it. I see tons of them on the chain but I must have just gotten old ones or something. So now I try to bring him all the business i can because customer service is a lost art. Gonna be getting a new outboard in a month or so, looking forward to that, I'm thinking a 115 merc vmax. Then I'll have a spare yama 90...I'll have to find something for that. My nephew loves to fish so I think I'm gonna try to build a small bass boat like something on tiny boat nation.
The "Blue Danube Waltz" is somehow a peculiarity for an Andrew Camarata video but I get it. In this video, you have shown how to really go camping: a little rough and a little posh. Thanks for posting this. It was fun.
atv's, snowmobiles, and wave runners stopped being made good awhile ago. I like the older made stuff from year's ago, lasts longer without all the digital junk, and they just made better stuff year's ago. Thanks for the video. G-d bless y'all.
That was great to watch. I remember the visit to the Statue of Liberty, which impressed me a lot. Hope the repairs are OK. You may have to do it some more. Difficult to see how you could get a permanent repair though. Thanks, I enjoyed that a lot :)
When the hull is completely shot I would love to see you swap that powerplant into a jetstream mini jet boat and put that to the test. I think they are built to handle the type of riding you get into with a thick UHMW bottom protector.
I grew up in Plattsburgh so a big "thank you" for spending time on Lake Champlain and going to Valcore island. I live down south now and it always great to see the north country.
I often complain about the taxes, politics and weather here as a resident of Vermont. Andrew thanks for reminding me just how great it is to live here despite those small details.
That squirrel is a boss!! So cool seeing nature that hasnt been devastated by humans. Everyone thinks its fun to mess with them but its even better when they're social enough to mess with you 😆
I have owned boats for over 50 years from small John boats to my present 48 foot cruiser and none have ever been designed to hit rocks. Some aluminum or steel hulls are designed to withstand glancing blows but none designed to hit rockss
Auto body filler will not last on jet skis. Use two-part epoxy on jet skis. I purchased two jet skis that had been repaired with auto body filler and two-part fiber-glass. Repairs got soft after being in the water awhile, and came apart on both jet skis. Removed all the soft body filler, and repaired with two-part epoxy and fiberglass material. Then painted bottoms with epoxy paint. Those repairs did not fail.
This guy is the best. I look at all his cool shit and just smile and laugh. Totally deserves all of it and more. There are so many douchey YT'ers out there and our man AC ain't one of them!!
Hull bottom scratches... we got tired of the damage, so we always got off our skis before they could touch the ground. And never beached our Jetskis unless it was soft sand. Some of us used Jetski stands (for the standup skis), while others used easily portable (store bought) anchors -- tough bags we filled with local rocks, then tied to our skis to keep them away from the shore.
@@AndrewCamarata 🙂 We got tired of the impeller damage/blockage too, so we tried kill the engine when the water depth was less than one or two feet (unless we were at planing speeds). If you want to jump & get good air, look for big boats (especially when they are moving at pre-planing speeds) & jump their wakes. Super fun. Get even better air with a relatively lightweight & more controllable stand up ski.
Killer castle out there. The ancient peopel that built that wished they had the Camarata technology. Their old home would still be complete if they had just built it right. Yer girlie is a good partner. Brave, grabbed that drone right outa the air. I'd have told you let it sink. ;-) Mad fun man. Thanks for sharing.
