My brother in law got a Hyundai palisade right after we got our Honda pilot. I was so jealous when he did bc it was so much nicer than our pilot. 50k miles later… our pilot requires oil changes and gas. The palisade on the other hand has been quite the story (fuel pump replacement, windows leaking water, engine codes, you name it).
What years do you both have? We are looking for a new vehicle and we are torn between the 2023/2024 Pilot and 2023/2024 Palisade. I'm liking the new Pilot a bit more with the removal center seat in the 2nd row and I'm not really a fancy person per se, so I prefer practicality more.
My 2005 Honda Accord had 323k miles when I sold it and it was running great, no major issues the only two things I ever replaced was the starter and power steering pump.
I've got a Kia Forte GT. Although I haven't had a single problem with it, I also know it's a 2 to 3 month wait at both of our local Kia dealerships to get a service appointment because they're swapping so many engines and transmissions under warranty. So even though I've got a great warranty on paper, it would be totally unusable if anything were to happen - I'd be out a car with no loaner for potentially months.
Had a Hyundai Palisade from new to 57000 miles. Not a thing went wrong with it, except the cooled seats button in the second row getting stuck. It was replaced under warranty.
@dhrudry1 not really. Cx-90 starts at 40k and tops out around 60k. The grand highlander starts 43k and tops out at 58k. Not much difference there. Sure mazda is trying to emerge as a luxury brand but its not there yet.
The Mazda CX-90 is an absolutely gorgeous vehicle inside and out. And although new, Mazda SUVs have fairly good reliability, crash ratings and resale value. Should have been included! I think it would have faired well in this comparison!
I am sure all of these SUVs are very good. We just purchase a 24 VW Atlas. We owned the first gen Atlas for 7 years now and no issues with it. It fits the budget and offers comfortable space for a family of 5 with stuff😊
@barbz_zayne we were really happy with it. You maybe regret a large SUV if you come from a Minivan because of the sliding doors. The Atlas doesn't seem to be really fast of the line. All of that was no problem for us. The practical solutions, space and safety was great. We also had all services included for 60k miles
The CX90 and Atlas definitely should of been there besides the explorer but Traverse and Acadia new generations aren’t out yet. Grand Cherokee L is too expensive for what it is. Most people don’t know that the Ascent exists. The Durango is old and may not be around in 2024.
I think the viewers would benefit if you guys talk about safety too. I'm not particularly attached to any brand but I'm always interested in safety ratings and features.
@hondajohn6948 not all viewers are aware of iihs... I was talking to some people this weekend, and they said they never even thought about it. But as I showed them the crash tests, they definitely were concerned and wanted to see what was the safest cars available.
Our 2021 Telluride has been a disaster. The fuel pump, alternator, and water pump have all been replaced over the past year. It currently has approximately 40,000 miles on it. I’ll never buy another KIA.
We bought a 2020 KIA Soul for my son. Have been multiple recalls and the engine replaced in 2022. Been to the dealer more times than our 2012 Acura TL and 2007 Honda Odyssey combined. First and last KIA we will ever own too. Fooled us once….

Is a shame only top trims are shown and when compared a base trim to a top trim, most of the times is a world of a difference. Like.the Pilot, that center seat storage is only for the top trim or the massaging seats of the Pallisade. I like base trims as tbey offer the smallest wheel possible and not those weak low profile tires. Also, the cx90 was excluded, and is a much better vehicle than the explorers.
that's interesting... i feel the same way about low profile tires..... not wanting them at all. rougher ride. pricier tires. definitely not what i would want. you're one of the few that have made that comment.
KBB, we've been hearing about the same six of these old contenders and similar outcomes from the last few years. What made you overlook the stylish and powerful Mazda CX-90, the reliable and practical Subaru Ascent? Oh wait, there's even the German VW Atlas, and the renewed Jeep Grand Cherokee. Lets try to make the contender list a bit comprehensive next time.
I’ll tell you Gv80 x5 cx90 cayenne are the best Worst luxury SUVs are the Lexus RX TX GX LX. I’d even rank the qx60 MDX xt6 much higher than either of these
Nissan Pathfinder for me. Probably the best off-roader of the bunch and the N/A VQ engine is unbreakable and a strong automatic transmission is a winner.
No question really. The Honda Pilot is top of the 3 row SUV line. Hyundai and Kia make attractive full featured cars at a good price, but reliability and resale value are rock bottom.
Bought my 2020 Telluride loaded for $48500 new, about to sell it for $37500 4.5 years later with 65000 miles. Never had that good of a resale ever actually. My Stinger didn't fare nearly as well though, about 42% drop in 5 years/50000 miles. Pretty par for the course there.
@@Aegisx5thats only because you bought it before chip crises and are reselling after and when dealers should be tried for some of their practices that continued to drive prices up.

1:31 not even the 2023 Ford Explorer comes with Sync 4. The Explorer is currently stuck with Sync 3 which works great but it doesn’t come with wireless CarPlay. Only wired.
Who wins the competition if you’re looking for good leg room, head room in 3rd row between pilot , g highlander and telluride? Also interior fabric quality between these three?
I have test drove several of these because I am looking to replace my 2019 Honda Pilot. The upgrades to the pilot as far as ride, steering, power are noticeable. There are no 2024 pilots to be purchased.Parts and service are becoming very hard to get.
Isn't the Jeep Grand Cherokee L a Midsize SUV along with the Dodge Durango ? Seem every time you have a Midsize SUV comparison you seem to leave them out of the fray.
@@DeadAir21 Its around for '24, dated but still competes well due to excellent chassis, excellent 3rd row room, the best tow rating and available V8 power!
@@ericbryant796 V8 power, for now. It’s only a matter of time before they axe it. But you can get better or comparable legroom not to mention way better fuel economy in others in the segment. Dodge needs to either make a new generation or make something new altogether to get it in people’s minds again. Hell KBB hasn’t reviewed one since 2011.
@@DeadAir21 Depends on a buyers priorities - The Durango is a "niche" player just like the Mazda CX-9/CX-90 (although the Durango generally outsells it by a few thousand units annually) - It's one of the quickest even with the standard V6, actually has real towing ability, it has comparable legroom and modern tech to many of the vehicles here despite its overall age (just being fair), but it's known to be a very masculine vehicle so it's a typecasted option which keeps its volume on the low side, not to mention its largely negative brand perception with some consumers... But it's still a viable option nonetheless.
The Ford Explorer sells over 200k units annually, consistently - The Subaru Ascent is a low volume vehicle in the segment like the Mazda CX-9/CX-90 No reason to compare vehicles that no one really buys.
This review is pretty lame. There are like 4-5 additional vehicles that would qualify that were left out. And also saying that they Pallisade had a confusing push button gear shifter while not saying anything about the Pilot, which also has a push button shifter, right before it is interesting.
The space you need going to costco ot hime depot. Maybe baby stroller? I have a family of 5 then my extended family? 2 roll are get for couples without kids?
What’s with the stupid 3 row seat obsession. There are 3.13 people in the average family in the USA. The average family size has declined from 3.8 in 1940 to 3.1 by 2021. Yet car reviewers/manufacturers insist on having a 3rd row in crossover; and calling it a “family holler" (BTW - the real meaning of crossover is - glorified minivan). How many families actually have 7-8 people in them? Whose family are they driving around? Not to mention that most of the 3rd row seats are completely uncomfortable, difficult to get to and kill your cargo capacity. Plus they add weight to the vehicle. I’ve seen reviews of vehicles like the Honda Passport, where reviewers are complaining about not having a 3rd row seat. I see that as a benefit!!! Look if you need 7-8 seaters, buy a minivan, trust me these 3 row crossovers aren’t any cooler! At least a minivan is comfortable for all passengers; including your exceptional 5 child family…lol
Sometimes we only have certain options when it comes to what's in the local fleet. There wasn't a CX-90 available. But we've got a review up if you want to check that out.
Not even a consideration of the new CX90 despite the new architecture, new engine, and premium interior? I stopped watching the second I realized that you guys didn’t include it.
Is there a Kia kickback? Palisade and Telluride should be a tie in every comparison unless you're including the reviewer's preference of style. My wife and I have our second palisade and Telluride 2023 models, still zero difference except the power seats in the Palisade's third row. Honestly without looking the only way I know which one I'm in is when I reach for the shifter. Which probably should be a deduction for the Kia as this is extremely outdated and will be gone in a few years. (Hard to let go sometimes) Got to feel bad for anyone with a new car that has a laundry list of issues. It's no comfort, but it happens in every brand and every model regardless of price. When it happens to you though you will absolutely campaign against that brand or model. For a really fun time you should experience it with the big luxury brands, yikes!
But...the Ford explorer has very bad reviews. My boss has one and said he has never had a worse car. Hyundai also has a lot of mechanical problems....so what gives KBB?
I have a gv70, and their service department are so busy with repairs. You need 4 months booking to get a loaner. That tells you how many issues with their product are. Honda on the other end, better car. I had a v6 and drove 70 miles in traffic and highway speed.. nothing happened. But after my lease was up, i turn it in.. that happened with a valvoline quick oil change trainee forgot to tighten the oil filter. 2021 model honda v6❤.. it's a tank... Genesis service department is not a luxury brand yet. Maybe after 10 years later, when they are caught with all their car repairs. That is why they offer 10 year warranty .. it not ,nobody's will buy them..
I'd like two vehicles.. 1. a well built quiet, fast, sleek sedan with rwd that has big comfortable seats and can cruise at least 500 miles on a highway at 75mph without stopping for fuel. i don't want any electronics, no stupid suicidal lane assist, or blind spot monitoring that causes limp mode from loud music, or radar cruise control that mistakes overpasses for traffic.. or huge pillars and no glass.. 2. i want a cheap weekend car with a soft top, manual transmission, rear wheel drive, and room enough for two 6ft+ tall passengers..
I can hardly agree with kbb this time on just looking at "luxury" and defining the Korean vehicle the "best". How many years have these two vehicles been on the market? How did it perform on the iihs updated test? Every time I see it fail miserably on the updated test, I have a stronger belief that these Korean auto makers are not making a vehicle, rather they are making a gadget that passes a test that looks like a car. It truly is a rush to put any new vehicle on the top.
It's actually a pretty capable truck, much more so than he previous generation these days. They've swapped out the CVT for a 9-speed automatic and it's much better.
IMO the pathfinder and Nissan in general, often gets overlooked by shoppers because the brand lacks identity in the market. Most people know Toyota and Honda are proven reliability Hyundai and Kia offers the most tech and features for less Mazda upscale mainstream Nissan doesn’t have an identity and has been been propped up by car rental companies.
So, KBB forget to check car recalls: Explorer 5 recalls, Pathfinder 1 recall, Highlander 1 recall, Pilot 0 recalls, Palisade 3 recalls, Telluride 2 recalls, for all 2023 models, now do you think top 2 are still safe??
@@asdfgoogle So car catching fire and need to park outside to save your house is not an issue for you then what is? Korean cars have too many serious issues, they are not worth the hype and over MSRP values, they are upside down asap.
@@GARENV I bought a 2000 GMC Sierra in like 2015. Turned out there was an open recall on it. Took it to the dealership and they swapped out the cable on the tailgate or whatever it was.
So the American automakers exited the passenger sedan markets to focus on SUVs and trucks; and now they can't even compete in the SUV segment! And the workers are on strike for more money? Good luck before they all go out of business!
The Ford Explorer is here and consistently sells over 200k units annually - The current Chevy Traverse outsells literally half the vehicles here and the redesigned model has recently been shown online - The Jeep Grand Cherokee also consistently outsells MORE than half the vehicles here and nearly matches the Toyota Highlander which would make it the 2nd best seller in the segment - KBB simply didn't include them, that doesn't mean they aren't competitive or don't sell well.
Yeah, Hyundai-Kia! #1. GM, #2. Toyota, #3. Ford, #4. Hyundai-Kia 👏👏👏, #5. Stellantis, #6. Honda; USA sales rankings. Hyundai-Kia doubled sales in only 20 years. Only a few hundred thousand units behind Toyota. Hyundai-Kia will surpass Toyota within 3 years to become #1 import in the USA!!
