I got my type s in December, and like you I was looking at a bmw m340i or m440i. The thing that swayed me to the type S is that it looks better, came with more standard options, and is more reliable than the competitors. Do yourself a favor though. Get the side spoiler package and lower blade like I did. It totally transforms the look. Welcome to the type s club bro!
Thank you I will be looking to get that done once I get my hands on all the interior accessories I want for my car then focus on the outside. Also another factor in this car for me was it came with 2 years of free maintenance included with the purchase compared to the M340 I was looking at
I've had my TLX Type S for about a year and half and you are spot. Drive wise, the best all around car I've had. The way it handles power/control is really good. The stability and power is amazing. It is not the fastest car on the street, especially due to the weight. But it is fast enough. Overall, the car has a sportiness, while being able to maintain great control and comfort all at the same time. Its hard to explain. Also, you are spot on about the attention it attracts. I love my touch pad. I don't have to lean over and put finger prints on the screen. My only complaint, is MPG. I am getting 20 mpg. In addition, it is premium gas.
Haha yeah it’s awesome car but the mpgs aren’t.. I get 17-20 mpg depending how I drive. Premium gas is pricey but my Costco membership helps mitigate paying high prices for premium fuel
it's not the fastest compared to the titans of speed IE corvette c8, audi rs series etc But it's faster than 95% of cars it's not slow, it's fast, fast enough not all about pure speed
Just saw one yesterday, and out of all the cars in the parking deck, there was a black type s parked there. Man oh man, I fell in. Love with the car. It was pure beauty.
I have the M340i x drive and I'd trade it for your Acura TL Type S in a second! My car may be a bit quicker, but yours is as quick as anybody needs, a bit more roomy, and way better looking than any M340 I've ever seen. When my lease is up, I'm definitely going to give this car a serious look. Good luck with it.
Definitely give it some serious consideration when the lease is up you have multiple versions to choose from too the Regular Type-S, NSX Summer Wheel Type-S, PMC Edition Type-S, and as of yesterday… the Gotham Gray Matte PMC Edition Type-S which only 50 of those will be built and sold.
Yeah I would definitely agree with you on most of the stuff that was mentioned in this video. The TLX definitely serves as a great daily driver if you have the money to buy a brand new car! Sporty enough to have fun while driving, but not so much where you definitely need more experience driving before it's comfortable to buy. There is a reason for enjoying Acura sedans!
The way I look at it, if I wanted a car for speed, then I’m going Corvette or Hellcat. Acura/Honda are known for longevity and reliability. I’ll take that kinda quality over speed any day. After all, it’s a long term investment.
When I bought mine I always complained about the cluster but to be honest after a few months I actually like it better than the digital ones in other cars
@@syedalam6363 I have a 23 jeep grand wagoner and also driven my families denali is too simple which is why I prefer the TLX. Maybe if they were more customizable.
@@SuperFlame1995 I guess it's all personal preference till everything gets digital. My experience is from my BMW M3 even though it doesn't have much customization options other than some color changes. The layout is cool that's why I like the digital techo better. I think Audi is the customization king.
Not really a fan of purely digital dashes, the hybrid dash that the F sport trims have from the lexus lineup is rather appealing to me though, but purely digital just kinda feels lazy to me
For me it depends on what options are digital. If climate control is digital then its a big deal to me, since its the only thing that I really mess with while driving on the road. Wasnt a huge fan of the previous gen infotaintment on the TLX for this reason
I've had my 21 in tiger eye pearl for a year now & it gets compliments as well, & it's plenty fast especially after I added high flow catts & full cat back exhaust plus k -tuner & man it has really opened the car up. That red is definitely 🔥
@@redandblack1911 I haven't had it dynoed but K-tuner alone adds another 50hp along with the 355 so if it's not at over 400hp it sure feels like it. The mods are great for sound & flow as well but again the K-tuner completely changed my car, it should've come this way from stock
I had a 3G Type S 2008 flawless car >265K and sold it. Last year I bought the RDX A Spec Advanced. It drives like a sports sedan. Acura/Honda has some great cars. I also have a Honda Elements as my daily driver. They age gracefully. Enjoy your new ride safely!
@@MarcoTLX I have always had sedans. So what propelled me to get a new car were several factors, there is a rip in the driver’s seat, 3G going offline and the transaxle broke which is what did it. The RDX drives and handles like a sports sedan. Fun to drive. I have the Fully loaded A-Spec. I do live the way it handles and looks. For sure. Apex Blue with Black interior.
@@BrooklynBound4 nice! I haven’t driven the RDX but they sure look good on the road I’ll say that! If you had to buy it again would you have went with a different color and interior color combo or chose the same color combo you have now?
@@MarcoTLX the purchase was unplanned tbh and I was in a different state so I took what they had on the showroom floor. I had silver cars back to back so something different was ideal. I won’t buy a car with a light interior because the dye from clothes bleeds into the material and ages them faster. My first color choice was the gray and that was in LI NY and my sister wasn’t driving me.
Never the first in any category but does everything pretty well. daily driving is great! Averaging 24 MPG so far with a smooth driving, not being hard on the gas pedal...
@@MarcoTLX hell ya. Im in PA philly area. I know a a few boys with Type S’s in NY and NJ ur close maybe we’ll meet this summer or spring one day at a show lol
This is one of the cleanest cars out. Everytime I see one on the road from a far I think it’s something exotic until I get closer to it. Price is pretty steep but I think it’ll hold value pretty decent.
I picked up my 22 Type S in September, I would've liked to have held off and grabbed the 23 but I'm still happy with this one and everyone I've talked to says there's no difference between it and the 23. Congrats on your new wheels!
They went with smaller gas tanks in both the TLX and MDX to save weight. They had to add weight to make it stiffer, but still make it affordable, hence cutting weight elsewhere.
That’s a great model to have! The V6 Advance package is damn near fully loaded! Reminds me of my 2016 TLX Tech V6, fun times too. Yeah wait for the 2024 refresh it’s gonna be worth it!
I agree with everything you said. I'm not apologetic for its speed. Plenty fast. I have mine up to 140 mph a friend hit 155. I would not have brought a car like this to race from the light and from 70 to 140 I've kept up with a Camaro to 110. However, I mainly brought this as a luxury car, with some performance. I had mine for over a year and have driven from coast to coast and from North to South. I get a complement almost everyday, especially people from young to grandmothers asking about my color, Tiger Eye Pearl.
I love the quality and reliability of Acura; having owned a 2009 TSX, 2016 RDX and now have a 2019 TLX V6. I have my sights set on a TLX Type S at some point. All the Acuras I’ve driven have great handling and are a lot of fun to drive. They are not the most powerful or the fastest but for me (In my late 50’s), my TLX goes plenty in Sport+ mode. Side note: I’m NOT a fan of the touch screens. Thanks for the update of your ’23 Type S. Nice exterior color.
Yes indeed set your sights on one! If your ever considering one now is the perfect time with all the hype being focused on the new Integra Type-S there is deals to be had on new TLX Type-S models from cash incentives, finance incentives and even negotiating under MSRP! Thank you everyone seems to love this color which is crazy cause I was considering the "poster car" color, Tiger Eye Pearl Gold color at first but switched to Red cause it was the lesser popular color in my area.
It sure does stand out, it looks really good. ( might be the best looking of it's class), maybe a little, just a little drop in the ride height and the stance will be perfect.
@@MarcoTLX If I'm not mistaken These are BBS wheels and they look clean as well, like you've said, the only necessary change on it's looks, is a lil drop on the ride height.
How is winter driving on the performance tires? Have you had to travel on snowy roads yet? Great detailed review, thank you and congrats on your type s.
Great purchase! I got a ‘23 type S as well and even though it’s slower than the German competition I wanted something that would last longer than the warranty haha enjoy!!
Appreciate you for sharing your beautiful car. I'm really filling this car. Just like you said it's so foreign, & much differ from other cars. Im praying I will get this car. I was crazy about the Kia Stinger but this right here is really grabbing my attention. I love a car that makes look twice & say, wait a minute,... Is this me 😍🤗👍🏾👍🏾. Great video.thsnn you again for sharing. You just helped me decide what I want. I can really see myself, & someone special riding with me 😍. I can just see me in it most definitely 👍🏾👍🏾
I just bought this car and I'm in love. Traded in a Cadillac CT4V which simply didn't compare. The steering on 2021-2022 Type S's is too light. 2023 is just right.
@CultofModernism...The problem is you bought the wrong V to begin with, you should've bought a CT4-V Blackwing with a 6spd manual transmission. The Blackwing will put this turd to to shame, twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-6, 472 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque and by the way, did I mention you can get it with a 6spd manual transmission, you aint getting that in a TLX. The Blackwing with the full carbon fiber package comes with a rear spoiler, front splitters and dive planes that are functional, not just tacked on for looks, and did I mention that you can get it with a 6spd mansmission...lol!
For the money I'd rather have the M340i xdrive. More power, more torque, better fuel economy and way better tech. IMO, the driving feel on the M340i feels better.
I completely agree, having test drove the M340i I already know that the Ultimate Driving machine is the next step up for me! TLX just has alot of road presence and thats what I was ultimately looking for besides the performance and driving feel
I’m new to your channel and I gotta say happy for you…but for me unfortunately I test drove this against Genesis G70 3.3tt sport prestige and Cadillac CT5V and I gotta say although I did like the handling and looks of this car, the Caddy and Genesis are better cars to me. I wish Acura would’ve included Brembos on all wheels, HUD, touchscreen, LSD, and made it less heavy. Both CT5V and G70 have those amenities included in their vehicles! I ended up getting Genesis cause Caddy wanted $70K and Genesis was willing to negotiate to $57K. Did you cross shop Caddy or Genesis besides BMW?
Im super late responding, I did not cross-shop the Genesis or Caddy, their designs didn't appeal to me and I believe the Caddy was much more expensive than what I budgeted out. Lowkey im itching to get into a faster sedan but shhhh dont tell nobody haha
That's the closest Acura that reminds me of my 4 door Acura LEGEND. It was not fast and the transmission was slow and sloppy but man oh man did that car draw all types of attention and compliments but because I like V8s I later brought a LEXUS. But this looks good.
imo Acura's are secretly under the radar the best cars in the world. I have a 2012 that I just got tuned up and it runs like it's brand new. It handles like it's on rails. It feels like a supercar and it drives like I just picked it up off the lot. It's fun every single time I drive. The Acura's are the perfect combination of reliable, practical and fun. It's halfway between a rally car and a Bentley. Was thinking of just keeping the 2012 until it falls apart but the new Type S is incredible. The problem is the 2012 runs like it's brand new and the mechanics can't find anything wrong with it or worth replacing and it handles winter storms like it's nothing. There was a flash flood and I drove through waist deep water that was up to the door, car plowed through no problem that was lucky there was a Jetta that got stuck and flooded. Maybe I'll just get the Type S and keep the 2012 I don't think I could ever give it up it's too reliable. Honda's got the secret sauce for making the best vehicles.
That’s what I’m talking about! True reliability and you still enjoy it as you did the day you first bought it! I would suggest getting a Type-S and making it more of a “weekend car” and let your 2012 TL still be the daily car, especially if you got the room financially and space wise to have both 🔥
It comes reliability and sport and built quality while the others are lightweight unreliable built like a tin can. Yes you get more power but it’s not safe or reliable
Thank you! 🙏 I'd say look out for that in the facelift there's rumors that the TLX facelift will bring digital dash, and HUD to Type-S models, maybe a touchscreen infotainment too. Another factor that made me go with the Type-S is that Acura mandated that all new 2023 Acura models come with free maintenance for 2 years or 24k miles whichever comes first. I thought that was a pretty sweet add-on for 2023 models
Also why didn’t Acura put the RLX drive train in the Type S. The RLX put out 377hp. It was a normally aspirated 3.5L with a hybrid hook up. You would have gotten the power and better gas mileage. I have the 22 MDX A Spec and the gas mileage is blah not good at all very average. Acura has done well with the TLX but it should have been as fast as the Kia Stinger. It almost hit the mark. I do enjoy driving the MDX.
My only gripe with this car, at all, is how laughable the back seats are. At my dealer (Acura salesman here) we’ve had multiple returns and customers walk out with integras instead. I’m 6ft and me sitting behind me is a nightmare. If they had just gave us more backseat head clearance and leg room, I would’ve bought this over the integra myself. I hope you’re enjoying the car man! I WISH it was practical enough for me but all my passengers are taller than 5’9 so it’s a no go :/
I have to agree, I’m 5’10 and was shocked at the backroom being so tight. I think the Integra probably has more room at the back. Love the car otherwise
Thank you, I pride myself on keeping my car clean which gets tedious when driving it as a daily but in all honesty it helps me get better at detailing and cleaning my car. I probably should’ve showed the engine bay, it’s nice to look at too but you can quickly tell it’s a tight engine bay really no space for anything else if you wanted to add or upgrade a major component in the engine.
I've got a '22 A-Spec AWD (also in red like yours), and I'm already afflicted with upgrade-itis for the Type-S's engine and brakes. I really want to get a test drive to see if it's worth it, trading away gas mileage, lighter front-end weight, and the easier trunk pass-thru.
This car looks very nice, but I personally think the new Integra has better looking tail lights. The six speed manual also seems more fitting for the Type S emblem.
Whaaat?! The legend himself “The Acura Channel” noticed me! But thank you! I got some cosmetic mods coming, performance mods I’m still on the fence about but I got some mods in mind if I decide to upgrade some engine parts 💪🏾🔥
Good review and beautiful car! The TLX type S is one of the best looking sedans on the road for sure. FYI "Fuel sipper" means it doesn't use much gas. I think you mean to say guzzler ;) Also, I don't think you mentioned anything about ride quality which would've been good feedback.
Thank you for the feedback!! Yeah for me the fuel consumption is middle ground for me it guzzles gas if you’re on the throttle everywhere in sport mode but sips fuel if you easy most of the time and bounce between comfort and normal mode. I completely forgot once I finished editing the video, I thought about adding it in post but figured leave well enough alone. It’s the first of many videos I’ll be uploading so I’m learning with each video and getting better with experience. But the ride quality is amazing! Road noise is apparent as to be expected rolling on low profile tires and such though. The adaptive dampers really help stiffen up the ride in Sport and Sport+ modes. Comfort & Normal mode let’s the steering be alittle more loose! Not Acura ILX levels of loose but loose enough to notice the difference between drive modes.
@@MarcoTLX give you a big cue. Don't make the car mad. Or try to destroy it. It was very faithful to it owners. 😂 I didn't think anyone would reply. It was really a joke.
Thanks for the review. I have a 2020 TLX A-spec and was wondering of upgrading to this model for 2024 when it's slated for a refresh. Ignoring the much higher price tag (which is not within my realistic budget) there's the often reported claim that its performance is barely superior to my model. What would compel an owner of a previous gen A-spec to spend that much more besides the superior looks? Seems like a LOT of money for mostly improved aesthetics.
The looks and the increased power, I came from a 2019 A-Spec AWD. I loved that car but this is next step up from that, faster, looks better and more tuning potential being that it’s turbocharged and not a NA V6. If you want to stay in the Acura family but want a faster daily this is the upgrade you want, but if you don’t care for brand or general long term reliability, then a M340i or C43 AMG would be a much better option for power speed with decent looks
Beautiful car I’ve had a few acuras have a mdx aspec now. Had a type S 2007. Man I miss it. Get mothers chrome cleaner for your exhaust tips. Thank me later. 😂🙌🏾
@@MarcoTLX I know there are tons of haters who try to devalue the performance of the Type-S. They have no clue what they are talking about!! I dare they try and take you in their C43's on an open highway. If you floor that car when they are on your tail, it's good luck catching you😂👍 They will have to go 130-140 to try and even out with you. Those Acura's have plenty of power.
@@DMCarReviews definitely do and the aftermarket tuning potential is massive a buddy of mine in Jersey has a Type-S with a stage 1 tune, intake, PRL Intercooler running a little over 400hp now Funny you mention C43… there’s a guy in my neighborhood who swears his C300 4-Matic could beat my Type-S in a dig and roll… he underestimates my Type-S severely
Not worth the money at this point in the model year, IMHO.. Looked at one the other day 09-17-23 at Radley Acura in VA. I was thinking about trading in my 2021 Honda Accord Touring for one of these. No digital dash, no USB ports for the back seat passengers, no HUD, no touch screen NAV, no fog lights, etc. There is more tech in the Accord Touring, than there is in this sub $60K vehicle. All you're basically paying for is the engine, AWD and other sporting dynamics. It's a step behind a lot of vehicles out here for that money and cheaper! Of course I choose to keep my Accord. If I wanna speed I have my 3 year old, tuned Explorer ST. If I want to chill, I have my lifted 2 year old F-150 Lariat. If this TLX Type-S gets a refresh with more tech and features, I'll definitely trade in the Accord. But until then, I'll pass.. This joint does look good though..
I can understand your view it should have those things by now. I just was ready to jump plus I was had a catastrophic issue with my last car that made me worry about owning it out of warranty so I decided to make the jump and get my Type-S. Funny you mention Radley they were the first dealer I tried to purchase from but we couldn’t come to a fair deal so I went to Pohanka Acura and they did right and gave me a pretty fair deal on my TLX-S Edit: Also fog lights was omitted from the Type-S in favor of creating more air flow for the car as in my experience this car can heat up rather fast more so the transmission tunnel but it generates quite a lot of heat when running it hard.
@@MarcoTLX I feel you and the decision you made. The TLX Type-S is a sexy car, and it has a powerful engine. I can tell from the break that Radley isn't about making equitable deals. I got them to draft up a sales quote and I left. Never to call them back. They do have decent inventory though. Funny, I was looking at a 2019 TLX S-Type online @Pohanka, but they were slow with my already approved application w/Honda Financial. With them taking their time, I ended up @Hersons in Gaithersburg and closed the deal on my Accord. Enjoy your car sir, I'm just nitpicking as my other vehicles have what the TLX S-Type is lacking at the moment. For $60K I just expected a bit more. Trust me, if the numbers were in my favor, I probably would've jumped.. Black w/Red guts was looking real good!
@@MarcoTLX Hey bruh, hope all is well.. All that crap I was talking in my comments about the TLX Type-S.. Guess who just trading in his 2021 Accord Touring for a TLX Type-S?! Yep, me! The Accord was killing me on my daily commute, as it was lacking power to navigate these DMV roads. I purchased from Pohanka as well.. I wanted black w/red interior, but I got the modern steel metallic grey w/black interior. It just popped more IMO. I’m reaching out to let you know that I’ve seen the light and turned a new leaf! Lol. I still think the TLX Type-S is lacking on the features standard on the Accord Touring, but you can’t buy an Accord with that power and AWD found on the Acura.
