Love the gear choices and your color scheme! Very interesting bag...will have to look into that, I'm also a warm sleeper. Agree with you on comfort doesn't need to mean heavy! Keep on hiking!!
Thank you! Definitely a big fan of the bag. And I’m really happy with my personal balance of comfort and weight- don’t mind an extra pound or two for some more comfortable items, especially since I’m not on the trail super often.
Really nicely made gear video! Ngl I'm eyeing the SD bag now that I saw your video. I currently have a Nemo Disco which I love, but it's a lot bulkier and I'm trying to cut down on pack size/weight.
Love that sleeping bag. Nice setup! I will sacrifice a little weight for some comfort as well. I think I need me one of those pillows. Nice review! New subscriber here!
Thank you! I’m really happy with the sleep system. And not everything has to be crazy light! Happy to carry a little extra weight if that means more comfort. Thanks for the sub!
The new deluxe one is nice with the built in piezo lighter so you can cut down on that weight, but I always feel safer bringing a lighter regardless for any potential survival situations.
Nice Job! Great content! Grabbed the new Nemo tensor. Its a great pad. Still trying to figure out if I want to drop that much money on a tent. Im also looking at the osprey bags too. They seem to be becoming lighter now days. Thank for the vid!
Just a heads up that REI has their anniversary sale going on and the NEMO pads are 40% off (you may have already taken advantage of that sale) and some of the REI tents are also on sale! Their new Flash Air is similar to the Durston albeit with a slightly different design but still looks like a great option.
I’m 6’3 and got the X Mid 2p as well but if you aren’t as big the X Mid 1p is only $240 or $260 and still a great tent. I love the XMid, well worth the money investment. Checking out that REI sale is a must as well.
Great video! If I can make a suggestion, you should practice speaking slowly or practicing scripts. You sometimes just speak fast and frantically, but otherwise good content!
Great Setup! i know how you feel with long wide everything .. i'm 6'4' so everything sleeping bag, tent, sleeping pad is long edition. it's good to see that tent is working for you, gives me options for future buy. Overall nice review, New Subscriber for sure!
Great gear walk through. Thank you. Ive got a similar setup except i use the 1p instead of the 2p xmid. Even the 1p has grwat room and the vestibles are huge too. I was eyeing off that bag too but landed on a Zenbivy 25 degree light quilt and fast sheet. Seems like a similar setup with the attachment. Im a side sleeper and was worried about the Cloud restricting me. Do you find this is the case?
I went with the 2P on the tent since I would like to dog my dogs with me on some trips at some point and the extra room is always nice. And you have great tastes! I want to get a Zenbivy setup at some point but the SD was on sale when I got it so it made more sense. I’m mainly a side sleeper as well and haven’t found any issues with restrictions on the SD bag!
I try to keep it as flat as I can and haven’t had any crazy slopes yet. But since you can adjust the peak height with the trekking pole height, I would imagine that it’s actually more flexible than a freestanding tent! That’s just a theory though
I hike in the Cheaha/Talladega National Forest area or in the Sipsey Wilderness the most when it comes to AL. Trying to get a trip planned up to the Savage Gulf in TN here soon!
No, I have looked at getting one of the ultralight packs from Z-Packs, UMG, or Durston but just haven’t had the need or the money to. My Osprey pack is light enough for me for now!
Brother, you need to properly hang your food bag regardless of whether you’re in “bear country” or not. Raccoons, mice, squirrels, and chipmunks have a field day with that bag.
To each their own! I haven’t been super experienced in all the different pack brands but I have been very happy with my Osprey pack so far. Which pack do you use?
@TerraOutdoorAdventures I've been stuck on the hyperlite packs lately when I thru hike, i also use a 5.11 rush 72 2.0 sometimes lol even though it weighs 5.5 lbs. I really really really like how it's set up.
HMG make some killer packs! I haven’t really tried any of the true “ultralight” packs out because for me at least, the extra structure and support I get from more traditional packs is more useful than saving an extra pound. I try to stay lightweight but not ultralight, but that’s what’s cool about backpacking- everyone has their own way of doing it! Never tried a 5.11 pack so you gave me something to check out
@TerraOutdoorAdventures If I'm walking 400 miles, I save every ounce I can. Sure you don't neeeed to go ultralight but it makes a difference. I know what you mean though, I absolutely prefer more stable, robust gear for anything else. If I'm just camping for a week or something, I don't care about weight, comfort takes priority.
