2023 BMW M2 - First Week of Ownership! 

this shit look alike a toy car compared to the f87. The old m2 was sleek and angry. This looks like a marshmallow

@@kayronmercieca8226 idk, for me, the f87 looks amazing, especially with factory extra body pieces and what not, looks perfectly sculpted, the front looks amazing with those bottom corner air ducts, and the rear quarter looks nice and wide with those quarter panels. OEM Wheels look pretty damn good, the only complaint I'd have if I was REALLY nitpicky is that the back end looks a bit plain. With a front splitter, small duckbill on the trunk, and a rear diffuser I think it's pretty much 10/10 as far as BMW coupe's go, and you can only go higher if u decide to go with a lowering kit. G87 on the other hand, looks like what happened when the Design team shut down their computers mid render, resulting in this Robloxy half baked looking car. And then sent said design file to the manufacturer and called it a day. So many parts of the car that awkwardly jut out, it looks like a cheap kit car some deluded BMW fan girl made in his basement with the lights off. For example, the bottom rear bumper with those offset rectangular box piece parts sticking out, would be a nightmare to try and park without absolutely melting it against a parking lot pole, if it weren't for all the P/A that cars in general come standard with these days. The f87 was sharp and angular in design where it needed to be, and flowing and elegant everywhere else. G87 tried to go for the all-boxy look, but failed horribly. Just my 2 cents.

Based on my track record, you are probably right. I tend to hold onto a car for a year, but that period has gotten shorter the past couple of years. With the M2, I was excited to pick it up but I didn't have a honeymoon period...I've been growing to the like the car more and more, which is different. Time will tell...

Ever since buying my 22 x5M competition I have had a grin ear to ear every time I drive it. It has the space for the kids and when they are not in it the fun factor for me 👍. I would like to race an M2 because I’m pretty sure I could keep up with it no problems.

LOL, I didn't notice how close I sit to the steering wheel until I saw myself in videos.

The original M2 just embarrasses the new M2 in terms of design and overall presence

I personally love the MK5 Supra - I sold my 2021 Supra to a dealer when the market was hot and wish I had kept it. I loved the sound of the B58 (I had a catless downpipe, intake, and tune). If you want additional passenger space, I think the M2 is a great way to go. It is a bit of a muscle car in comparison. If you don't need the space, I'd recommend keeping the Supra.

My guess is you need to be pulling in $250k+ to have a collection like this. Likely $300k+. Very Smart and hard working guy.

Yep, lol. My understanding is that BMW wouldn't let journalist drive the M2 or at least put out information on how it drove until the beginning of April - so a bunch of videos got released at the beginning of April. The car went on sale in North America shortly after that.

BMW went bold with the design of this car. The reaction that I've gotten in person is that it is not as bad as they thought it would look, lol.

Thanks! Yes, the screen is wide, lol. From the driver's perspective the instrument cluster display is nicely separated from the infotainment section, but I still haven't gotten used to how it looks from the passenger side.

As z stated, I'm trying to drive the car as much as possible to complete the break in period so that I can really push it. My kids are excited to ride in the car so I've been using it with them even though I have a more practical option at home. I've been looking for reasons to drive, lol. I think the car is well appointed for the price.

I'm enjoying the handling of these cars and manually shifting gears to the extent that I can on South Jersey roads. My Model S Plaid has broken my need for straight line speed so you shouldn't see my flying down RT 70, 73, or 38. However, you may hear me downshifting any chance that I can get, lol.

A lot of people came up to the car to look at it. The feedback that I received and overheard was positive. The theme amongst people who recognized the car was that it looks better in person. People who didn't know what it was seemed to like the exterior and how aggressive it looks, and how the interior looked, to include the iDrive 8 set up. No one came up and told me that it was an ugly car - I think the car looks better in person than it does in pics and videos.

I agree. I drove the car over 200 miles today to include some windy roads - I'm even more impressed with it after that drive. It's a shame that people are judging the car by how it looks in 2D.

I think the size is great! I realize that I didn't recap my thoughts from my initial impressions video - in that video, I was concerned the car would be too big since like most BMWs, it has grown relative to its predecessor (it is 4.5 inches longer). I was pleasantly surprised when I first saw the car that it still appears to be a small car. This is BMW's smallest M car - I'm glad that it still feels small. I'm not complaining, I think it is a good thing. Regarding the back seats, in comments to my initial impressions video, people asked me about the size of the back seats for kids, so I commented about it in this video - I think they work great. I used to have an F80 M3 and think the G80 and G82 are too large. I appreciate your comment because it tells me that I need to do a better job of connecting my videos.

@@TheLifeofJoeLee cheers , I didn't mean to sound so critical it's just that I'm buying a m240i and when I test drove one I kind of knew what I was getting in terms of size . As I don't have kids at home any longer the back seat space wasn't an issue but like I said if it was I would have plumped for the bigger three or four series . 👍

Great to hear about your incoming G87! I intend to make a video on the practicality of the M2. I consider the suspension to be comfortable in the comfort setting, actually a little too soft for my taste (I've been driving with the suspension in sport), but it is nice to have that option when driving on rough roads with passengers. I haven't noticed any cracking sounds during bumps - in stock form, there is a substantial amount of suspension travel. Also, the ground clearance is good so I haven't worried about scraping the bottom of the front bumper. The car is easy to get in an out of and visibility is good. I find the seat belt harder to reach than on other 2 doors that I've owned but that may be because the other 2 door cars that I've owned were smaller with the seat belt more forward.

For a harnessed booster, I use the Graco Tranzitions 3 in 1 Harness Booster Seat. However, in the car I currently have a Mifold high fold - it is a travel car seat that works in the 911 and plaid - both have bucket back seats which requires a narrow seat base.

Having owned an MK5 Supra, I think it feels sportier and I prefer the sound of the B58. However, the practicality of the M2 on top of its performance is hard to beat.

This weekend I used the M2 to go grocery shopping and run other errands. If you don't need the cargo space and don't mind reaching for the seatbelt (I'm 5'7" and find it to be a far reach to grab the seat belt), I think the M2 would be great for commuting. The smaller size will make it a little easier to navigate traffic and to park. It seems like many of the M2 reviews say that the auto is better, but I'm really enjoying the manual and find myself downshifting a lot to hear the engine rev up. I still have trouble making the 1-2 shift smooth - others have shared the same experience. One other detail that can be annoying is the placement of the cup holders - my hand hits my coffee mug when shifting into first (I've gotten use to it). I think the cup holders in the G80 are in the same place, but there may be more room between the shifter and the cup holder. Visibility in the car is great and I find the ride quality to be good in comfort and sport. I plan to make a video soon on the practicality of the M2.

I'll be finishing a video that compares my G87 M2 and FL5 Type R this weekend. The seats in the Type R are more difficult to get in and out of, but they are more comfortable and do a better job holding me in place. While the M2 shifter isn't bad, the Type R's shifter has a smoother and more positive engagement - it is much better.

@@Bahle_Gaji I saw that vid as well, with the spacers, lowering springs, and the wheels. Imo the wheels change EVERYTHING, they absolutely CARRY the car in terms of aesthetics.

Yes, you have to ask the dealership to place the order. Usually with brand new upcoming cars you have to go to the dealership and see what they have available. It’s not exactly the same process as buying a normal car since they are so new. For example, the guy in this video took a different spec than he was looking for because he wanted the first m2 he could get. Supply is low and demand is high. Just go to your local dealer and see what they say

I placed an order with a BMW dealer. Given that the M2 seems to be rolling out pretty slowly, each dealer will have a list of people who have ordered, some will have longer list than others, so I'd check with multiple BMW dealers depending on when you are looking to get the car. For reference, I had ordered and put a deposit down on a 2023 M2 in November 2022. The spec that I had ordered was anticipated to be delivered in Oct 2023. Fortunately for me, the dealer I had ordered from was getting one spec'd by BMW that was pretty close to what I had ordered.

I have a 2019 M2C and I had the same issue for months. It took me a very long time to master the shift to 2nd.

Congrats on your M2! I think the clutch requires some acclimation as the friction point catches in an abrupt manner. I've gotten used to it after 2 weeks. I drove an FL5 today and found that clutch to have a very smooth transition, to the point where I found myself slipping it more than needed because of how I drive the M2.

I would. I almost traded this car in for a 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S (a rare opportunity popped up), but 3/4 of the way to the dealership (it was 105 miles away), I called and said I wasn't trading it in - I was having too much fun driving the M2. Test driving the Turbo S didn't change my mind. However, this particular car isn't a forever car for me as I'm thinking of spec'ing a Toronto Red M2. I'm going to wait until information on the competition and potentially the CS is released before making a decision on that. The E9x M3 is a special car.

That seems to be the majority opinion. I think the G87 looks good in person but I still love the styling of the F87.

I think the back is not bad, it would look mega if that black reflector thing was a real vent.

Entirely your opinion, and it's only valid for yourself. I am very attracted to the G series of BMWs. I agree that they got used to it. However, it's an attractive design, and I'm happy the owner likes looking at his new M2.

The bold styling seems to be polarizing. I personally like it, but I know it is not for everyone. I look back at this car after parking...and no, it's not because I'm glad to be walking away from it, lol.

I took delivery of my M240i 2023 this Jan and I like the styling a lot. In my opinion, it looks a little better than this M2 from the front. I am not much a fan of the square shape in the front. Other than that, this generation of 2 series look a lot more aggressive and sporty than the previous one. The rear end of F87 looks softer and not very good and the front end looks pretty but less aggressive.

Tbh the m240i rwd can be had for 54k nicely equipped too I’ve been debating no manual thou but it’s not deal breaker because with a down pipe exhaust and cai stage 3 tune u can get passed m2 power for less than 5k and also 300 lbs lighter

I was looking at used Lexus LC500s. However, I then decided that I wanted to focus on cars with a manual transmission. I wanted a car with usable back seats so that eliminated a lot of sports cars. With that being said, I really like the styling of the BMW 8 series.

The B58 engine is a beast and sounds awesome.

After the M3 and M4 debacle I didn't think that BMW would do this to the fabled M2. I get that there are many people who simply go along with whatever new thing is put in front of them, but I do have to be one of those people who simply cannot believe that they could have put out such a horrible bloated looking car.

Stop lying dude the f80 M3 weighed three hundred more pounds than the f87 M2 at least own up to this.

With a manual transmission, the F87 M2 weighs 3450 lbs and the F80 M3 weighs 3540 lbs. The F87 M2 competition with a manual transmission is 3582 lbs.

@@TheLifeofJoeLee In standard form, the F87 M2 Is lighter than the F80 M3. Same deal for Competition form. Also, the new M2 is a pig compared to the original one. The guys at Throttle House were underwhelmed with it.
