@tacosg4216 BMW engine cost more to maintain when in the shop. Customers usually leave their cars at the shop when they can't afford high bills. Plus our rates are cheaper than dealership.
@BenjaminIsrael10 older ones maybe. The b58 and s58 are one of the absolute strongest and reliable platforms to date. With aftermarket parts, you'll end up spending way more than the supra cost or any b58 platform. So maintenance cost will be marginal compared to what you'll end up spending on the Z just to break into the 10 second mark.
The Supra haters never fail to amuse Me! No matter who the Supra spanks over and over! They always find an excuse and discredit how bad ass of a car the MKV Supra is!
BIG time…. Lmao comon we all know it would have mopped those 2 without a problem! This video was made probably for all Supra fan boys and they had the audacity to throw in a dumb ass behind the wheel in the M2 😂
@@briansimpson5664 but the M2 should be faster from a roll. It destroyed a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 in a roll race on throttle house, so I don’t understand why on this channel it can’t even pull past a Supra.
Yeah, I was stoked at first and was on my short list. Now,I feel bad for the Z. I thought these would sell like hotcakes but I’ve not seen hardly any on the road….proly because it gets smashed by every. single. competitor.
Love my 22 tuned m240i but make no mistake the S58 is head and shoulders above the B58 when it comes to basic tunabililty. You can keep the S58 engine completely stock and with nothing more than a flash and downpipe make well over 700 whp. You won’t make 550 with the b58 until you change the turbo.
I would take the Supra over both, I personally think it looks the best, the Z is a close second, but the performance to price ratio is just too good to pass on, the M2 is probably faster at the top end but low down it’s weight just holds it back meanwhile the Supra can put it’s power down really well which gives it a huge advantage, the Z seems to be more GT than full on sports car as compared to the Supra and M2
Supra is going to be running 3 B58's with spoon engines. And on top of that he just came into Harry's and he ordered 3 T66 turbos, with NOS, and a Motec system exhaust.
Explain how the m2 beat the supra by a bus length and posted a 12.2 on Hagerty drag race? And is faster in every other race on youtube.. carwow m2 did an 11.9
Not really. You’re limited to just over 500 whp with the b58 until you start changing turbo/fuel. The s58 will make over 700 whp with the stock turbos just a tune and DP. It’s been proven.
@@tacosg4216this is false. The cast pistons in the b58 are suspect when you go north of 600 whp. Plus you aren’t making that power with an aftermarket turbo.
I knew the Z would get destroyed, and that the Supra would be the winner. The M2 has very poor gearing which makes its low-end power delivery very odd and laggy. BMW sabotaged the manual for some odd reason. Fun video!
@@geemanbmw It's the gearing of the Supra that gives it that low-end snap. When there are no shifts happening, the M2 is pulling though, because ultimately it does have more power.
Exactly what I’ve been thinking, that baby blue makes it look like a RC car with the cheap square intakes. The darker colour lets it all blend in together more
You don't buy a Z for it's outright performance or track use, you buy it as a classic Japanese-engineered manual tourer that's fun to drive on weekends and should prove reliable in the long run.
I don't understand why this guy has a channel. He can not drive. I can probably drive manual better than him and I've only touched manual twice in my life. Sam needs to learn how to drive his damn car. He's been in a mustang 5.0 and lost to Z. He's also managed to make a BMW M3 run a 13 second pass, and a Zl1 run a 12.5 second pass. That means that Zl1 is as fast as some people run the mustang, and that the M3 is slower than the mustang 5.0... This guy SUCKS at driving and doesn't deserve his channel. He's clueless about cars.
I know 1 thing Nissan better get it right with the Nismo version because they're running out of excuses and to be totally honest this is absolutely unacceptable how bad the new Z is performance-wise compared to the Supra.
Man, that's crazy. I drove manuals for 10 years up until 2017. I definitely miss them. The last 7 cars I've had since then have all been automatic due to circumstances of other people needing to drive them from time to time. Currently I've got a GLC43 and a X3M, both automatics of course. But kind of shows the state of things.. Manuals for fun. Modern automatics to win.
that was the collective consensus that day as we checked out the cars, the black paint works really well on the new M2, unlike the baby blue paint offering.
@@alengreen589 The S58 is better... In every aspect. B58 only has slightly better tuning cause of more aftermarket support. S58 is catching up very fast and is built 100x better.
Seems like the M2 might have been short shifting at the start to keep wheel spin down? That said, the Z is consistently uncompetitive. The new Z will make sense as a second owner car once the warranty is gone and you can tune it, etc.
@Chris G for sure. Had a friend test drive the M2 with manual, he liked it, but the manual wasn't as good as other manuals he has driven so he is ordering with auto.
Honestly that Nissan Z is the biggest rubbish I’ve ever seen that’s called sports car, it’s bad in drags it’s bad at cornering it’s bad at laptimes. It’s an absolute disappointment there was no effort by Nissan at all.
@@Foiiiii1 you are correct I did exaggerate out of disappointment, it’s not a bad car but I just expected a little more, I guess I’ll just have to wait for the Nismo.
I’m sure it will still lose to the Supra, and that’s coming from a huge Z fan, but I wish Sam would put a set of Michelins on it and see if it closes the gap. Also, Nissan should turn the wick up a little on that motor. There’s so much more power to be had from it. Aside from the GTR, Nissan has a habit of just letting their motors sit at the same power level for the duration of their use. That said I thnk it’s a great overall car at an affordable price in base form. Now bring back the sport package option. Base car with the bigger brakes, wheels and limited slip.
Less torque and also probably less or the same HP if they put them on a dyno since BMW underrates their cars for some reason (I'm guessing to protect the M cars). Also 200lbs.
The Z continues to disappoint me in the performance department 🤦🏽♂️ but the looks are great.. The Z was made to make it your own I feel as far as performance modifications.... the Z has potential if you put the right mods in. I seen a channel on RU-vid this shop made 700hp or more & it was Crazy‼️ I'll take the Z home & work on it BUT MUCH RESPECT TO THE SUPRA THOUGH that's a Fine Machine they have
A lot of people holding the Z to this high standard. The supra and m2 are excellent cars, give them props. I know some will disagree but in general if you factor in the price they are pretty equalized in performance (again, factoring in price. A more expensive car should have better speed, performance, etc). Drive the new Z for yourself, it's fucking quick. I own one and it is something else. This being manuals makes it a harder comparison but the supra will win regardless. I guarantee you the Z is a more comfortable daily driver than the supra though, and it is my OPINION that the comfort is worth it to sacrifice mild performance deficits
What happened to the supra killer Z? 😅😅. First they complained about auto (mkv) vs manual (z) and then they complained about "tires". What more excuses can we find in the box this time? Driver mod?! Too heavy?!
The Z base price is a red herring, almost nobody will buy it, manual seat controls and no limited slip diff, those are a must and can only be had with the performance version. The base price is also only in black and they upcharge everything else. The performance trim starting price is $60k CDN if you don't want black. That makes more sense compared to the Supra at $72k CDN based on performance comparisons, both speed and handling.
@@tacosg4216 Proto spec has no upgrade over the cheaper performance spec. Also those prices are USD, here in Canada the gap between Supra 3.0 premium and Z performance is $15,000 lol
Supra: "400 what? 453 who? How cute" M2: "BUT BUT I SHOULD WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get this dude out of the driver's seat!!!!!!!!!!" Z: "Lemme win something pleeeeeeeaaaaase"
Sam you're great and I love the channel, but you should switch out drivers during some of the races to get a better sense of the cars/drivers. I believe you've done this on some vids.
I’ve seen a dozen drag comparisons with these cars. This is the first one where the M2 doesn’t win by a good amount. It’s either fixed or the driver was awful.
Racing 3 manual cars increases the variability of each cars performance compared with each other. I’d like to see the automatic versions raced. For example, my Veloster N with the DCT was a game changer as compared to the manual version. I’m curious to see if the Z would perform better. It was very disappointing to see it taken to gapplebees here. Not even close!
The z with its Mercedes 9g tranny will do even worst then the Supra with its famous zf8hp the only car that might beat the Supra is the m2 with the zf8hp with more ratio it should be to put its power advantage to good use it might offset the m2 weight disadvantage .
The M2 for meeeeeeee (spegal) Lol. Though I must admit, the Z is the best looking of the three... May the manual remain forever! I can't imagine driving without one.
Better to warm up the tires before the race. Need to switch drivers between the cars too as some manual drivers can clutch better than others. Dropping the clutch in between gears will make the car a bit slower.
@ThatR34Monster roll races will alleviate the need to warm up the tires but will not solve the issue between a more experienced manual driver vs a novice. Thus why I mentioned they need to circulate the drivers.
That damn Supra! 😂 It has the biggest set of balls!…. Eventually the M2 would catch up because of the horsepower, but in the everyday world it’s a blast! I have to clean up now….
As a supra owner, this was hilarious. What an embarrassing showing from the Z. Where are all of the shit talking Z fanboys now? 😂 Side note: you should've switched drivers.
I am sorry but that Z is terrible. I know the tires are bad and the manual transmission doesn’t help but it still is just so outdated and slow. There isn’t anything fun about sitting there and spinning. It is just slow and gets beaten by pretty much everything else.
@@LearningFast you can spend 30k$$ on it and it will eat that supra and m2 . that's the price difference between them. Btw are you living on a drag race track?
@@avis1978 If you mod it at all it will spin like crazy with anything but drag specific tires and yes I go to the Drag strip twice a month. I certainly wouldn’t want to take that Z to the track. It would be hopeless against other cars that turn a decent 60 foot time.
@@LearningFast so just get an extra set of tires like you said and I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. As a daily sport car the Z is good enough as is. 30k-35k it's a big price difference for 0.5sec 1/4
I have a tuned 2020 Supra. Its stage 2 on MHD. About 440whp. Its alot of fun but just ordered the pure 800 turbo. Which is good for 500-800whp depending on mods. If bmw put the s58 in the supra it would be a game changer
Yup pathetic driver. M2 should win. Traction control should be set to 2 or 3 for the launches. Supra won’t make over 700 whp with a basic tune and downpipe either no other mods.
Fly to Canada and I’ll hand you the keys. Happy to let you show me how it’s done. When I’m spinning in 3rd on a loose surface to a faster 60ft and had to back off every shift 🤷🏼♂️ serious offer, come and get it keyboard warrior. The m2 is slower. Full stop.
@@SamCarLegion 10k will bring it way fasta 2 sticky tires downpipe tune already bring the z to 11.8 i saw some videos just simple no intake no exhaust uperpipe etc just 2k
It’s hilarious the amount of hate the Z gets even though it’s $20,000 cheaper then both the other cars. I’ll gladly spend the difference on better tires and a tune 😁
But the supra is the much better car out of the box. Lighter, faster, better engine that can make great power. The base Z lacks a lot of the things the supra comes standard with. It’s definitely a much more stripped down car, yeah it’s cheaper but you’ll probably be spending a good amount just to make it perform like the supra.(Keep in mind that the Performance Z starts right under 51k) The supra is faster in the straight & track due to it’s better handling/grip/less weight. The brakes as well as the transmission are also better. Motortrend themselves came to that conclusion as well.
@@d_2jz how about I put it like this, you get what you pay for. The Z was destined to be the underdog here due to pricing. This comparison is like putting the Supra against an m4 comp then people dogging the Supra for being slower and “worse” all around. It simply isn’t a “fair” comparison. However, it is useful to see what your money will get you
@@d_2jz That’s True, but the Z drives how a car should. You can actually feel the car as if it’s a being. The manual option helps the Supra in that case, but it only helps so much
Pricing is completely irrelevant in this market (US). A base model Z will be around 45-47 and end up being in the low 50s out the door. Nobody wants base models anyway, gotta have it all or nothing.
M2 should be 11.9 @ 120...it'd be helpful to list MPH also to see who was going to come around on the top end. Supra's are usually around 114 mph so the m2 should be freight training it.
I’m assuming the M2 has a 3.08 which is the traditional I6 gearing. It might not be as effective here but it will be very strong in big power applications. I’d much rather have the M2 gearing over the supras.
