The country is out of control, inflation, exchange rate, import duties, crime, corruption…. And unfortunately we the consumers are paying the bill for that
I have this car for slightly over a year now and not even one day have i come to terms with the way this car performs, the other day i was coming from an off ramp to the high way and this dude was moving in a C43 AMG, the way i came passed him and quickly owned the highway, he came after me flashing none stop until i slowed down a bit and lowered my window and he lowered his, all he said was “I’ve been wanting that car still haven’t got a buyer for this yet” i laughed hard and disappeared again, the B58 is a monster!
I own a big truck right now and I'm consistently getting smoked and passed( is what it is) but it's by the same cars on my way to work. 😂 Just ordered the M340i and I can't wait to return the favor. 😂😂
The BMW M340i LCI sedan is the benchmark in it's class has been and always will be. It's got the performance handling and punches far above it's weight. Yes it's become expensive but it's competitors are in the same price bracket.
In Europe, we have a Touring M340i in addition to the sedan. Not available in SA. However, BMW will launch the M3 Touring to South Africa in limited numbers in 2024!
Yeah unfortunately South Africans aren't sold on Station Wagons. They associate them with hearses. In the olden days the like of Cressida and the likes were used here as hearses hence the stereotype. I'm not a fan of the BMW and Merc Station Wagons but I love me some Audi RS6 and RS4 and even the Panamera Sport Tourismo. They for me have the best side profile. VAG perfected the look on tbe side
@@henrysithole3623 I see in Latin America they also associate wagons with hearses, and consider them to be uncool cars to drive. But here in Europe, a lot of drivers have loved them for decades. In 2021, 64% of wagon sales globally were for Europe.
@@DaveDVideoMaker Henry is correct. I don't remember the last time I saw a new'ish station wagon on our roads, now that I think of it. We prefer SUVs. I live in Johannesburg and there's wide lanes and big enough parking spots to comfortably drive 7 seater SUVs.
Pre LCI will always be the better looker inside (and out, I’m biased). 860k - 900k for a used 2020-2022 example with 30k km or less on the clock seems way better than the brand new one
I loved it when BMW stubbornly stuck with a traditional gear-knob when all other manufacturers moved to a "flicker" or steering-mounted shifters for changing gears. It's disappointing that they've now followed suit. We petrolheads still need that bit of an analogue feel in a car, e.g. needle rev counter, a couple of physical buttons, unmuted exhaust notes, etc. Great, great, great review Ciro. For me, 340i over the C43 or S4
I miss the manual buttons, transmissions and everything else that makes you feel more connected to the car. I feel pressured to purchase a manual bmw again before they are no longer in existence.
On your own site, the specs say 285kW. But I’ve seen with the pre-LCI as well, there has always been confusion between 275kW and 285kW. Some articles say one, some say the other. Nevertheless, it is a fast car that sounds great too.
The deceptive thing about German cars is their options. An M Sport + M Porformance package, sunroof, adaptive dampers, full wrap leather, technology pack, driver assistance pack, sound system and metallic Dravit Grey paint will shoot this car above R1.5m easily. This is why I still believe you should get an M3 since it basically comes with so many standard features already and will keep it's value so much you might get your money back when you sell it, assuming you've kept it in mint condition. Negotiating 1.9mil for an M3 is what I'd rather go and try.
Brilliant car, that B58 is a ridiculously good engine but yeah car prices are out of control here. They’re basically direct conversions from £ or € but obviously incomes here aren’t converted as such which makes the disconnect that much greater. There’s just no way these prices are sustainable and either they’ll have to come down soon, or if they keep selling it means more people are buying beyond their means in which case give it a year or so and buy one of these with less than 10000km at a significantly lower price. Also to note, those blue inserts on the headlights are matrix LEDs which are usually an option. As are adaptive dampers (a must, but not sure if they’re standard on the M340?). Also also, it should totally be easy to offer traditional dials on these digital clusters right?? It’s a just a software graphics thing, no idea why manufacturers don’t include round dials as a customizable option in the menu🤷🏻♂️ Edit: x-drive is usually also an expensive option, again not sure if it’s standard on the M340
I believe adaptive dampers are standard on the M340i as is the xDrive platform. And yes, I too have always wondered why simple coding from the manufacturer has never been offered to revert to a traditional set-up in the instrumentation. My guess is just like exterior designs, they want...no, they force us to get used to it whether we like it or not.
I agree with you. I love everything about the car besides the new curved touch screen. That screen just looks awkward ergonomically. It doesn't fit the space and just looks like a large curved screen that was mounted to the dash. No trim finishes or anything. I think they should flatten out the screen and recess it more into the dash for a premium look. Kinda like the newest Escalade's or Denali's. Those screens look more thought out for the interior design. My preference would be to buy a 2022 strictly for that reason. I like the dash of the 2022 better and it seems more like a BMW. That's just my two cents. Sweet car though regardless. Hats off to the B58!
Great review mate. I dont like the update. The rear lookslike someone has stolen the bumper off it. I dont like the gear toggle, the iDrive 8 speed and rev display looklike something Atari made in the 1990s. The headlights looklike they came off a MX5. I have a 2020 330i, I'll stick with that. Greetings from the UK!
@@carcrazyguysa4059 Yes true, you are 100% correct, BUT the rest is completely HIDEOUS 🤣... and so these 2 are the best design of an all round TERRIBLE BUNCH 😵 And then there's the WORSE if ALL - the DISASTEROUS M2... Oi 💩 What is going on at BMW ?! 🤣
I miss dials too, even the digital versions. My Audi S4 has a perfect one with the circular rev counter in the middle of the screen and digital speed and gear position indicator in the middle of the ring. It should be simple for BMW’s software boffins to program something like that for iDrive 8.
I’m getting about 750 km with one tank. Driving fast not crazy . Living in Greece where diesel is allowed 😅…still . I had an m240i xdrive before , so I can compare easily . Definitely better yields with diesel ⛽️
@theorousso Damn thats actually very very good. I have a 320d and I get around 700kms with a full tank. But I do a lot of stop and go driving and I'm very conservative. Maybe I should start speeding 😆 🤣
3:38 - front bumper is missing some parts in it xD Driver side has some missing black plastic cover vs passenger side. Look to the left and down below the license plate. I think it's airflow for brake cooling? But why only 1 side is open? WTF
Not brakes...One side transmission cooling is standard. Spend the extra for the performance pack and you get a second transmission radiator at the end of the other tunnel. Just a little acknowledgement that some owners may wish to push things a little harder than others..
Yaaah i was listening to your words and i concluded that it's difficult to publicly say that this BMW 340 M is not worth the money unless you buying it with stolen money. Fast conclusion is that it's a useless piece of shit. Sorry but am honest here. I love BMWs but not to the point of heaping praise on thrash. Are you listening BMW ?
BMWs are priced actually a bit on the lower side if you compare it to Mercedes Benz in every class it's VERY INSANE TO SAY THAT BMW'S ARE OVERPRICED THERE IS SIMPLY NO WAY. Mercedes Benz are priced out of this world if you compare them model by model you'll see the Benz is far more expensive than the BMW, that's why I WON'T BUY A MERCEDES BENZ I'LL RATHER BUY A BMW. The latest S-class for instance are far more expensive than the latest bmw 7series and the 7 has better technology by far than the new S-class. I'll never buy a Mercedes Benz over any BMW, BMW is the best value for money and cost much less than Benz. BMW for life for life.
Bity BMW treat potential buyers like trash. I was actually after a 340 or an X, worst case a m135. Invited for a test drive and kicked out of the bedfordview at the gate. HQ ignored me too. Teams in Cape town never got back to me on a car I want. Meantime I've had Toyota, Lexus, Jag, Audi all offer to come to my house and let me have a test. I leared how to drive in a BMW, I won't ever buy one now.
in june I could have gotten an m x2. and I walked away. sadly got a countryman paying about the same I would have I gotten the x2 m. and I have nothing in it. so I am sad. hopefully in late 2024 early 2025 when my lease is up or early buyout. I get the m x2 or 228i grand coupe m.
Extra R700k will get you the bigger grille, 4 pipes and orange bucket seats lol😂😂😂😂 ohh an extra turbo 😂😂😂. I've never found the big grille to be offensive though. But I like the original G20 320d is good enough.
I’m thinking of buying one of these and I agree with you re instrument cluster. Since BMW changed to these weird displays 8 out of 10 reviewers ask why simple round speed and tach is not available. Surely it’s just a software or firmware update. I have a 2019 M2 Comp. and I love the simplicity and clarity of the instrument cluster.
I am a big fan of 6 cylinder engines especially the sound its amazingly unique Bur So Much money for a 3 series 😂 Anything above a million i move my money to a double cab the new ranger is a good option 😊
Vehicles like this shouldn't be sold in countries with speed limits eg 120km/h speed limit even with a Kia rio 1.4 tec I drive over the speed limit because it moves
It's expensive, it has no dials, imagine this in a 6speed manual maybe it would be a handful, but who cares about those things, this car is a perfect problem I would love to have every day.... Sheer driving pleasure.
Yeah the huge price increase during a recession and high rates sure is insane but don't worry those 96 month loans at 8 percent are great way to lower monthly payments.
