I agree that the music was a beautiful addition that helped maintain a spirit of reverence. The Lord needs a people prepared to receive Him when He comes and I felt that these changes were designed to help us accomplish that goal.

Jasmin I just found your channel although I have watched your videos at Scripture Central. The way I experienced the newer endowment was ‘like a warm hug from heaven’. Our Father’s and Saviors great love for us was more prevalent and more powerfully displayed and conveyed. Its so heart warming to see the temples filled to capacity! Let us keep up the momentum! Thank you for your commentary.

New subscriber here. I plan to go to the Chicago Temple for my own endowment in the next 2-3 weeks. I did take the Temple Prep class, so when I saw your video here, I just had to watch. Even though I took the class, I am a little apprehensive, as I still do not know what to expect. My personal Church history is rather unique. I joined the Church 45+ years ago, was active for 3-4 years, then fell away. I only recently came back to Church at the April 2022 General Conference. I am now ready for my own endowment. I am so looking forward to it.

I loved all of the changes! I think two words that describe the changes are clarity and gentleness (scriptural definition). With the more obvious tie to Jesus Christ, the repentance and redeeming love side of things were more clear to me. I think this is going to make a better experience for all, especially for people receiving their own endowment and people coming back into the fold 🤍

I have attended as frequently I could since 1988. I am so grateful to recall different formats. To me it was a challenge to absorb the information 30 years ago. Although I will miss my “water color, sketch book, and scrapbook” presentations, I love the new presentation. I’ve been twice with the new version and today’s session had subtitles which added another layer of learning. There are some words, one in particular referring to patrons, that surprised me by its capitalization. I wondered if a patron in our session had marked hard of hearing or deaf on their appointment but I asked and learned that all sessions will have the captioning going forward. Yay now I don’t have to mark deaf when I attend because the cations add so much. Loving your insights.

I went through last week - LOVED it! I think the changes are phenomenal....person who went through for the first time said "people told me it might be overwhelming - but it made sense to me" (the people did not know these changes were coming when they set those expectations) - one question asked to me after (that I could no answer) was: there is a real change in details of the covenants made right after the fall - it is great - but what about people who took out their own endowments prior to the change-is that previous covenant model or the new covenant model in effect for them"? An interesting theological question....regardless, I found these changes provided for an even greater spiritually uplifting and inspiring experience
@mp112501
@mp112501 Год назад
I also loved the changes. I first went to the temple in 1988 so I have experienced big changes before. I had heard these new changes really made the endowment different, in a negative way. But at the end of the day, I still make the same 5 covenants, I still wear the same sacred clothing, and still have the same experience of learning, and progressing into the Celestial Room. I don't think the additional instruction "dumbed it down"; it just simply made many truths much more clear, and tied more things to what Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ most want from us: to become more like the Savior and to return to live with Them. This will definitely help new temple attendees and help international members. Having visuals throughout the entire endowment will help keep more attention, and the visuals of Christ definitely help make it a more spiritual experience. I also loved the updated language on two of the covenants, that make them more meaningful and modern. Yes of course the language of the endowment should change to meet the needs of the people. God has always spoken every language, including 2023 language!

@@katsmith2343 "Obey" never meant the husband had authority over his wife, it meant as he followed God's will in righteousness, she followed his example. It was to give the husband accountability over his family and take it seriously to help them all get back to live with the savior. How about when women had to covenant to their husbands? These "inspired" changes are just fixing problems they created to begin with. I totally saw the changes a few years ago, from live action to stills, as a way to translate easier, and these recent changes, which I experienced yesterday for the first time, as another boon to the expansion of the gospel and temple worship world wide. I find it thrilling to contemplate the realization of taking the gospel to the whole world, as Jesus commanded his apostles, by having a temple ceremony that is so much more accessible and by adjusting the use of temple workers, as well as patron couples. I did a session of initiatories right after the endowment session, and there was a small change there as well, to match the corresponding change in the endowment presentation. On another topic, I attended a session a few months ago where Italian subtitles were showing. I don't know Italian, but I could figure out certain words given the corresponding English narration (this was in the Medford, Oregon temple). It lead me to some interesting insights about the endowment and deeper ways to think about it.

Temple Light: This partial transcript could be used to jump start captions for this video. This week has been a very exciting one in the world of Latter-day Saint Temples. As of Tuesday, February 7, 2023, the church made some pretty substantial changes to the temple ordinances. These were not minor tweaks, they were pretty big and really good. So let's talk about it, but respectfully. As always on this channel, we take our Temple covenants very seriously, so we will not be divulging anything that we covenant not to do. For this video, I'll be talking in more general terms as opposed to a lot of specifics because I do want to be respectful of this very sacred ordinance that is only available to worthy members of the church. I'd also like to emphasize that you really should go see these changes for yourself. You should not rely on some Rando on RU-vid. Attend the temple, feel God's love there. If you're working towards the goal of going to the temple, keep going because it is so worth it. So first, a little background. From what I know, the largest changes to the temple endowment happened in the 1870s, the 1920s, 1990, and 2005. Obviously, they've of course been a lot more minor changes all through that time, and while adjustments have been made to the presentation of the endowment, the covenants and the doctrines of the ordinances do remain the same. After Christ's death and Resurrection, he altered Temple ordinances from focusing on animal sacrifice to focusing on sacrificing a broken heart and a contrite spirit. But regardless of the format, the law of sacrifice remained in place. In the 19th century, the Lord commanded the Saints to consecrate their property in what was known as the United order. Now, today the church doesn't ask us to donate our property, but we are asked to be willing to contribute to Christ's Church in other ways, and the law of consecration remains in force. Now fast forwarding to President Nelson, this is the third major change that he has made to the temple endowment since he became the prophet in 2018. In January of 2019, he and the temple department made some pretty major revisions to the endowment that highlighted the important role of women in the Plan of Salvation. And it streamlined a lot of the presentation to reduce the runtime significantly. The presentation medium of the endowment changed as well because before 2019, a large portion of the endowment was often presented as film with live actors performing the narration of the Plan of Salvation from creation through the fall. Now in 2019, maybe to facilitate the smooth rollout of these changes but also very likely to simplify translation into a lot of languages, the church took stills from these live-action films and essentially created like an animated slideshow communicating these same principles and narrative points. They cut out various parts of the dialogue and shortened the ceremony quite a bit. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic caused all temples to temporarily close. And as soon as it was feasible, the church did open the temples again. But they made some adjustments to minimize the person-to-person contact so as to prevent the spreading of diseases and pathogens. This included demonstrating some instruction on screen that previously would have been done in person. And now we arrive at 2023, the newest iteration of the endowment is longer than the 2019 version. There's additional dialogue in The Narrative of the Plan of Salvation. There are additional explanations about the meaning of certain symbols and covenants, and most of these editions center around Jesus Christ.

I have not been yet for the new changes, but I am 52 and the impression I am getting is that those who didn't understand the temple, now understand it more clearly. I get the feeling that this is because people now days have to have it explicitly said rather than being able to feel it anyway through the Holy Ghost. To me this indicates younger generations are having more trouble and the temple endowment is more explicit to help. While this may help, I am pretty sure I will come out after seeing the new changes and say "I already knew that".

All ordinances in the temple have at least one minor change. One change may not even be apparent if you aren't paying attention! As a temple worker, we have memorized certain things and now suddenly have to relearn things so we may make mistakes or have to read something instead of just saying it naturally. Please be patient with us! But all the changes are wonerfull if you think about it. One change helps us think differently about proxy ordinances while other changes our relationship with Christ!

The Book of Revelation is actually the book of Jesus Christ himself. Did you know that? It opens with this. "The Revelation of Jesus Christ given to John" Jesus then tells John that this revelation of Christ is all about the future believers in Christ only. Days to come, as he said. Jesus told John that these future believers would Serve Christ " day and night in HIS temple." Rev. 7:15" These Christian's wear white robes and garments. "Rev. 7:13" They serve at night so this is a temple on earth only! Why? In heaven there is no night time. I don't know why Christians in other churches aren't looking for what Christ promised John must be happening in his future church? Christ also said in your Bible that he would return to earth again at his 2ND COMING to his TEMPLE." Malachi 3:1" Wow! If I was a Christian I would be searching for that promised Christian temple Christ promised John! A temple where believers wear white robes and garments. Also John describes them washing their robes in Christ's blood symbolically. That's not a non-believing Jewish temple but a Christian only temple. Is this not describing the Second Comforter following offering our broken heart and contrite spirit? I understood the temple is symbolic of this: 13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? 14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. 16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. 17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. Do changes made reflect what happened to the creator of the movie? Prayers for protection!

Sounds amazing! I envy those that enjoy going to temple. I’m an active member, not perfect, but trying and I do not enjoy the experience. I feel like its awkward and I don’t really know whats going on. Probably a personal thing. I have so much anxiety even thinking about going back. And being worthy is not my issue. It is so hard for me to understand why others enjoy going. It is probably one of the most awkward, confusing, anxiety provoking experiences of my life. Except baptisms for the dead, I enjoyed doing those in my youth.

You're not alone. The temple before 1990 was scary and a lot of people didn't/couldn't go back. When I went through in 1991, the disturbing stuff was gone and it was actually intriguing. The later changes were even better because there was more stuff about the importance of women and their relationship with the Lord.

It was actually a terrible experience for me, though I had attended temple prep classes. I absolutely love the changes, and felt more like I was actually having an otherworldly experience than ever before.

Since you live so far away from a temple, please remember the session is now about 13 minutes longer. Also, plan to get there earlier enough to change into temple clothing! It is sad when people show up for 5 minutes before the start of a session. The patrons LEAVE the chapel about 5 minutes before the session starts. That means you may miss your session. Temples are swamped right now with everyone wanting to see the changes and if you miss your session, we may try having you do a different ordinance but can't guarantee that. Note: President Nelson would love to have more temples so that members will not have to drive more than one hour. But it is up to us to help grow the church in those areas like yours so that the temples can be staffed and enough patrons that it is used.

Thank you Janet. I am a regular temple goer whenever and wherever I can. And I’m very familiar with the procedures, but I appreciate the gentle reminder. I believe our temple is still by reservation only so we are still in that mode (although I could be mistaken) We are all hoping and praying for a temple to be announced this General Conference. I believe we’re the last big city in the US with over a million people without a temple and a ninth stake was just created Nov 2022. So we are growing and excited for when a temple can be built closer to us.

In an attempt to justify some of the material on this channel, at least one of the videos it provides quotes Bres Bednar as saying “that “We may discuss the basic purposes of, and /the doctrine and principles associated with, the Temple ordinances and covenants.” Which, of course, is perfectly correct and understandable. However it is interesting - and important - to note that Pres Bednar has not said (or has ever said) that it is appropriate for us to discuss THE DETAILS of any of the Temple procedures outside of the Temple. As far as I am aware, that instruction continues to be given to new Patrons at the temple today.

I have been inactive from the church for 40 plus years. I never lost faith in the church but I lost faith in myself to have faith in the sacrifices and the joys of the blessings of being a member of the church. There was a point where I stopped believing in God because I didn't believe in myself. I am still working on that but find it difficult because of my anxiety around people. I have taken out my own endowments but that was in 1975. Now being older, the only thing I remember is the name in which I will be called on the other side.

I think the Lord is making it easier to understand our covenants with him, and to see his great love for us. I hope people go to the temple for the right reasons and not as a curiosity issues, or to judge or speculate. I really do not think we should announce all this changes in this kind of platform. Remember what we do in the temple is very sacred and should be treated with great respect.

As for the "net positive" and the fact that we love what has been familiar... and that change is something we may struggle with to some degree... consider that the gap between where we currently are individually and collectively... and where Father and Christ are in spiritual maturity... we have much repenting (change and fulfillment of the message and endowment of each "line upon line" measure of the revelations of the Lord) and restoration of all things... in the process of becoming even as Christ is--ourselves and in all creation. Expect the Miracle of more, much more change in the Temple that changes, sanctifies, and converts the Temple that we are... to look and be like our Savior and Father in Heaven--our fondest abode and "far better land of promise." Embrace the magnifying of the sanctifying Light and the conversion of life giving darkness--its being "born again" within us as the essential opposition in our "knowledge of good and evil"... all wrapped like the most glorious Christmas Gift with the finishing "bow" that our Savior Himself places upon us "all."

I felt similar, but I think it has more to do with making it clearer for new members who don’t have a life time of learning and generations before them. My speculations: - Jesus is coming soon and so there will be a large influx of people joining the church from all sorts of backgrounds - the church is getting things ready to shorten the time a new member has to wait before going to the temple The whole time I kept thinking about what it would be like to officiate a session packed exclusively with people getting their endowment for the first time (not even escorts). And what if none of them were able to take a temple prep class. This new presentation, spelling everything out, would make that logistically possible.
@machellethehealersartdisco6985
I have heard your speculations about being prepared for a large influx of those seeking their endowments, without a lifetime knowledge of temples and covenants behind them echoed by several others... When we heard we were getting a second temple in our small town, my Dad's first response was " well, when the 10 tribes return wanting their endowments, you'll need it!" With these changes, it makes me wonder....exciting times!

Honest question, but if Joseph Smith restored and revealed the fullness of the gospel, including the temple ceremony, why has it changed so many times over the years? If God and his gospel is the same yesterday, today, and forever, why the change? These changes imply either God changes or his “prophets” have made mistakes in ordinances, or these changes are simply from man and not God. Lastly, where is the “revelation” from God giving modern prophets (i.e. Nelson) the instruction, permission, and authority to change the temple ordinance?

I know that as a more recent convert to the church (having been baptized in October 2018) I would say that the DOCTRINE of God has not changed but His POLICIES do. The Termple ordinance would be considered a POLICY and not a DOCTRINE, I believe.

In 2019 the changes had to be made because Sterling Van Wagenen was put on trial and sentenced to 6 years to life for child molestation. (He was jailed in July of 2019) If you don't know who SVW is, he is the producer of the temple films that were new in 2013 or so. His story only came to light because Sean Escobar was a victim who came forward after recording SVW. It's all very dark and worrisome that the church knew of his behavior, basically did nothing and then still allowed him to produce the temple films. The good news is you can look all this up yourself, listen to Sean's story and hear SVW himself on audio trying to explain and apologize to Sean.

I always thought that it was interesting that the endowment's creation chronology was different than what is presented in both Genesis and the Joseph Smith translation of Genesis. I haven't been yet! I'm going on Friday. But dear friends, I'm a little apprehensive when I hear mention of the war in heaven -- the time when Lucifer - a son of the morning turned on us, and on Christ and Heavenly Father and Mother. D&C 76 says that the heavens wept. Yeah we wept. We cried, and it wasn't cries of sadness, it was cries of fear and terror. We had never known fear or terror. How could our friend, who we trusted, and who we esteemed like we esteemed Christ, turn and say such mean things? How could a son of the morning turn and accuse even Heavenly Father and Christ of the terrible things he accused them of? Why? Yeah we cried, it scared us like no other. Do any of us remember? No, we don't. I don't know, sometimes I wonder if I personally knew Lucifer? I don't know, no idea, sometimes it just seems like it's right there near the surface for me. So we'll see what comes up for me this Friday. But anyway... I'm sure this is not what all these changes are about. I think it's so cool that a room full of ultra conservative old men (or so we think) can be so bold and "progressive"! Heehee😉 I remember when music was first added to the presentation of the endowment. It actually took a little getting used to - like - I'm not here to be entertained. Yet it was so moving. So cool! Thank you for your positive words. I've never felt or pictured that the heavens wept in terror at the casting out of Satan and his hosts, but wept in sadness at losing a formerly dear brother. Those with love and faith in Christ need not/should not fear (love casts out fear). Maybe I am wrong and you are right; maybe we both are wrong; maybe we both are right; etc. Please, let's not argue, though. Be well, brother!
