Every video about Super Cruise needs to mention it works by subscription, (even though it's an $2200 option). After the complimentary three years are up, expect to pay $30 a month to keep it working. That's a deal breaker as far as I'm concerned.

Bought my Bolt EUV in December and loving it. I've been driving it to Sacramento from San Jose weekly with no range or DCF charging issues. It's quiet and the power is more than enough.

2022 Bolt EUV LT owner here. Slow charge speed is really the only big concession I have to live with. But there are not too many choices out there for the budget-minded EV buyer. Once Tesla supercharger network is opened up for all EVs, this will make me less anxious about road trips.

How are you liking the Bolt so far? I’m really interested in purchasing a bolt euv. I’m worried though that it is on it’s way to be discontinued due to Chevy unveiling it’s new Ultium platform. Any thoughts on this?

I'm pleased with the purchase. Plenty of features for a low price. My biggest complaint is not the car, there aren't many good quality charging locations near me. That will improve with time. Chevy may discontinue Bolt rather than invest in upgrading it's charging speed, which is low by today's standard. I would still buy Bolt today, as you will not find many options at this price.

I've never lived anywhere where I needed more than 2wd, and I live in Canada. 4wd and awd are nice, and I've owned both, but a good set of snow tires would be a better investment. Less maintenance, less mechanical issues, and awd/4wd on all seasons is still like skates on ice.

I got a bolt euv 2LT. I love it. Literally Pennies to drive. My cost per week to charge is 12 dollars and I drive 108 miles round trip per day. Just finished a trip from Northern CA to San Diego and back roughly 1020 miles cost 80 bucks. Literal no brainer. A bonus savings as well if your house has solar like mine does.

Sarah-n-Tuned did a review for the newest Bolt and showed that the bottom of the battery is cheap sheet steel, to save money. Good idea to watch the Project Farm videos about rust converters and truck bed sprays testing, to touch up the rustproofing once a year, especially if you drive it on gravel roads once in awhile.

I appreciate your consistent pragmatism about electric cars: I perceive that you are open to them, but expect them to function as their classes of vehicle, not just be novelties. My wife and I have debated getting an electric car as a complement to our Subaru Forester, which itself is a versatile, comfortable, all-terrain road tripper with great cargo space, and your look at the Bolt definitely instills some confidence in the potential workability of that idea.

We got the VW ID.4 AWD this year and loves it every bit (ordered last year and waited for 8 months). A bit slower than dual motor Tesla (still way faster than most ICE cars) but way way better on NVH. And it has a proper DCFC speed comparing to this bolt. We do still have a gas truck, and a hybrid that I sold after getting this EV (carvana gave me an unbeatable price). But I'm also ordering a maverick hybrid for the money I got from the sonata hybrid I sold. BEV will never be the only type of vehicle in my family, at least not for the next 5 years.

Nine months ago we looked at this car and a Nissan Leaf SV plus. GM was not allowing the Bolt to be sold since battery fire issues had not been resolved yet. We ended up with the Leaf, and it has worked out very well. Consider that a leaf or bolt plus a Subaru costs about the same as one tesla Y.

Not a bad review but I do have to say: If you are doing these reviews to help people make a buying decision… then do some homework on the car. The fact that you didn’t know how super cruise works, that you didn’t show or talk about the software that helps drivers manage their state of charge or how the car deals with driving style and battery range shows me you didn’t do your homework. Second the people buying these cars are buying it because it’s in their price bracket- so stop comparing the leather etc to way more expensive cars. Chevy has tried to give a nice interior with one hell of a lot of tech that you have to pay extra for in more expensive cars. I almost feel you were doing yr best to find the faults and I’m sure there are some… but rather decide if this is a good car for the person who is buying it instead of making them worry they aren’t buying a good car because it’s not a Mercedes or BMW etc. Make them feel they will be proud of their purchase and that it works or doesn’t for that price point

When mentioning the leather he simply said it was cheap leather, and then said it is not luxury leather. He did not compare it to any other manufacturers leather. His assessment of the leather is accurate. I get your other points though, and totally get how many reviewers, including this guy on occassion, do unfair comparisons although it is sometimes unavoidable in cases where certain vehicles are somehow unique and don't have competion that is very comparable.

@barrymccormick8827 I could not agree with you more. The review technique used here is typically slanted a bit on the negative side, instead of noting such important facts like the following: You a get leather, heated/cooled seats, operational sunroof and hands free driving.....NONE of which are currently available in a Model 3/Y! There is no EV on the market with this kind of value, period. At this price point there simply is no equal value especially when looking at the lower trim level and factor in the tax rebates!

My Lt2 bolt euv is on order to be my commuter (no sunroof or supercruise), as given residential electricity rates where I live, it'll cost 1/4 to 1/5th to run as my '05 diesel jetta wagon which gets a real 40us mpg. I'll charge mostly at home overnight, so the slower charging isn't a problem for me.

For those considering this GM BEV vs a hybrid (I.e. Prius), consider the price appears too good to believe for the AER. Since GM dropped the price significantly, GM is probably losing money on these small BEVs as they need these sales for compliance to offset the millions of petrol and SUVs they sell. Toyota on the other hand builds their hybrids to be profitable without federal credits. Not sure why there were multiple (3) references to the seat material. Chevy for decades has described their leather seat materials as leather facings (what your seat/back touch) with a non animal hide leatherette for the sides and back of the seats. This is a $30K car and find it hard to expect a higher quality leather seat and plastics for the price. Thank you for the review.

For the money, it is hard to beat a Mazda 6 or CX-5 used with at least 50 thousand miles. Great steering feel, good reliability and good crash test results. When it gets to 150 thousand miles, there will be a much better selection of used hybrids, plug in hybrids and all electrics at a CarMax. I prefer to avoid regular dealers with all their sneaky add ons after the advertised price, also the enormous depreciation for a new vehicle after you drive it for just a year or two.

The Hyundai Kona EV, Kia Niro EV and of course Tesla uses synthetic leather. So real leather any day of the week for me at least. I would never buy a car with synthetic/fake leather. Edited: I have a 2017 bolt EV premier. I think the leather is nice . It's not "napa" premium leather. But after all these years with good care. It's look almost like new. When knocking the lower cost materials on the interior, you really shouldn't qualify your statement with "a low cost electric vehicle". For $37K you won't get top of the line materials in any car, be it ICE or EV. Also, you must have had the lane departure assist turned off. When on it will definitely bump the steering wheel to get you back into the lane. However, if you completely let go of the wheel and it continually has to bump the wheel more than twice it will sound an alert and disengage the assist.

He's buying a VW ID4, and they're doing a deal where he is going to get 3 years of free charging with it (not sure of the specifics of how that actually works). He's currently spending about 5k a year fueling his Grand Cherokee (It got handed down to him when my sis got the VW), so he's excited about that fuel cost savings. For me, being an apartment dweller that would someday like to own my own home, the thought of needing to purchase a vehicle to comply with these new requirements gives me anxiety. My 10-year-old 4-runner is super reliable, it's not efficient, but at least it's paid for. Last thing I need right now is to have to get into another car payment situation. Figures, as soon as I smarten up that expensive cars and payments are a waste of money, now a scenario is coming about where I'm still going to have to buy one. I did briefly think of trading or selling it for a RAV4 hybrid, I think I would rather have a hybrid before jumping into a few EV, but even at $5 a gas, I calculated it would take me at least 6 years to pay off the difference between the two vehicles.
