I own a 22 platinum hybrid. I drive freeway and highway driving over a 6k pass and get 20-21mph. All time high of 24mpgs. The sound from the truck doesnt bother me. I'm not the type of guy that gets excited over engine noise/exhaust. The truck is solid and strong. Fantastic at towing.

@JB Reviews I enjoy your channel and your Videos but the bubble is never going to pop when they are selling trucks. People buying new ones every 2 years just to leave them sit and look nice are the issue. My duramax has 255k miles on it and is falling apart. But I refuse to over pay

@@jerrodpatterson8938 I’m sort of of a similar mindset but at some point you just have to replace your truck unless you truly don’t mind sinking thousands into it. You ever consider a newer gasser? Less expensive to buy and fuel, and the new ones have incredible towing and payload ratings

I know it’s not the point of the video but it’s crazy how Chevy has morphed the terrible redesign of 2019 into this classy looking truck you’re driving. The Toyota on the other hand looks like a Lego truck that was put together out of leftover pieces. The driver display in the Toy reminds me of a base model Ram from 10 years ago only the digital center portion is color. 300 pounds less payload when your only talking 1300 is a big difference. 🇺🇸💪

Couple things. 1st a quick 17mile loop is hardly long enough to accurately represent actual MPG. 2nd I recently spent a whole week driving a new Tahoe in what should have been best case for MPG, country/rural driving 55-65mph, and the Tahoe never got over 16mpg.

My current truck is an older 1st generation Tundra with the 2UZ-FE, 4.7 liter V8. It's a solid performer - but fuel economy is not its strong point. What Chevrolet has in abundance which Toyota lacks is the different number of configurations - starting with the 1/2 ton regular cab equipped with a 2.7 liter turbo, to the more popular 1/2 ton trims - which offer the 5.3L and 6.2L gasoline engines. Plus, there is the 3.0L Duramax. A payload package is available option on a Silverado. Need even more payload capacity? Then buck up to 3/4 or 1 ton truck.

That LTZ might be more of a platinum with the toyota atleast with price and the platinum has a digital dash, panoramic sun roof, and a few more standard options than the limited The start stop only engages if the brake is pressed firmly, just easing on it to not move forward won't engage it and I love that. Even if I forget to hit the button it still doesn't annoy me

The 5.3’s are constantly in the shop for lifter, cam and rod issues and plenty of just plain engine failures. When they don’t fail, they drink oil. And I owned new Chevy 1/2 and 3:4 tons for over 30 years. My best one was an 94 hd2500 with the 6.0. The 3.4 (3.5?) is new in the tundra, but Toyota has had that motor in the Lexus Ls500 for at least 5 years. I’ll take the Toyota all day long over the Chevy. Plus we know the Chevy body is going to rust out ALL over the place.

Nice review. The mpg is definitely close. I’d say close enough to call it a wash but 2 tenths more is still more. I’m not a fan of small displacement turbo engines. So I’d never even consider the Tundra. I do think it’s a nice looking truck and I feel like I’m on the minority on that. But I like the styling mostly. They do look a little low, even for a 1500 though. I like the V8 sound from the 5.3 but I can tell you right now even as a Chevy guy I’m taking the 3.0 diesel all day. Even over the 6.2.
@JB_WhoWork
@JB_WhoWork Год назад
Thanks bro, I would expect a V6 to do at least 1-2 MPG better and for some, the fuel mileage will be even lower because they don’t know how to drive a turbo engine. I was going to be funny and put the 3.0L against it but I figured that wouldn’t be fair 😂

The old 5.3 maybe but 5.3s built after 2007 are junk with AFM and DFM. Your lucky to make to 100K with one of those engines. Modern Chevy 5.3s have hardly anything in common with the old ones. Plus the GM transmissions...not good at all. Toyota at least tests their products still. The Toyota 3.4 powertrain passed their global durability tests for the Land Cruiser so you know they've beat the crap out of when the tested it.

@James D Lol....in '07, the Tundra drivetrain destroyed the 1/2 ton segment performance wise.....for reasons unknown, Toyota let it stagnate for 15 years while the competition passed it by. What's funny, though, is how consumers have such short memories....the then new 5.7L, in a Toyota executive's own words, shamed the company regarding its quality.....from a batch of snapping camshafts, API pumps, torque converters, front end bearing failures, tailgates, and many more problems....time heals all wounds I suppose. "Speaking with Automotive News at the Tokyo Motor Show, ToMoCo's global manufacturing exec admitted that problems with the automaker's full-size pickup have caused "shame" within the company. Takeshi Uchiyamada cited the rapid expansion of Toyota's production facilities......."

The old 5.7 was a gas hog and it was time to go. Toyota doesn't have the manufacturing capacity to make two different engines, all the full size trucks are coming out of one plant in Texas unlike GM which has several plants pushing out full size trucks. So the new engine is going in all the full size trucks and SUVs like they did with the 5.7. Other than just wanting a V8 for the sound there is no performance category the old V8 beats the new twin turbo V6 that makes it a better choice. This is especially true of GM's 5.3 V8, an engine that's been in production for over 20 years. Ford's little 2.7 turbo V6 will beat the 5.3 all day towing or unloaded. Ford did keep the Coyote V8 as a choice in the F-150 for fans of the V8 but also because it fits nicely in between the 2.7 turbo and the 3.5 turbo. It's also going for over $1,200 as an option but is the least expensive to manufacture so it's makes Ford good money.

@johnpeters9793
@johnpeters9793 Год назад
Not only has the 2nd gen Tundra always had at least two motor options, it had 3 for many years with two V8's and a V6. Currently, there are two distinct drivetrains but both use the TT V6. And while the new powertrains do outperform the outgoing 5.7; like mentioned, there were few if ANY upgrades to that class leading motor (at the time) in 15 years....
