Howdy! Today, we’re harvesting corn in Virginia on the family farm, and I decided to bring y’all along with me. I hope y’all enjoy!
My name is Elijah and I'm 15, 4th Generation Farmer. We farm 2000 acres of corn and soybeans in central Virginia. I run the Grain Cart with a John Deere 8235R and Corn Planter with a John Deere 7530. I mow during the summers with a John Deere Z960M Zero Turn.
Have a blessed day y'all!

Hey bud, enjoyed the ride along. Noticed your head was on a swivel most of the time. And what a meal at the end. Have a great day and stay safe. Old Hickory, TN. 🇺🇸

You seem so organised. You are very impressive. Would you say you know how all the equipment works - or are there some implements you leave for others to manage?

Hi Elijah, Hopefully you are getting some soaking rain by now. (Soaking in, not a gully washer.) Question - on other farms I've seen, they seem to cut the corn stalk off about about six inches above the ground. It looks like your farm cuts the stalk at about a foot or more. Do you know why you cut it at the height you do? The finger snap was cool. I agree with you, cool weather is great (spring and fall) - cold and hot, not so much. That was a great dinner spread for the meeting.

Yes, the rain has been great. I think it just depends on how tall the corn ear is off the ground. It’s more efficient than having more of the stalk go through the machine.

Elijah - during harvest are you guys normally putting in extremely long hours? Do you go into the night?
@OneFieldAttaTime
@OneFieldAttaTime Год назад
During corn we can work longer into the night. But soybeans get tough later into the night so we stop earlier like around 6pm. But usually we stop working around 6-8pm

I’ve always wondered why you keep your engine rpm up so high even when sitting still?
@OneFieldAttaTime
@OneFieldAttaTime Год назад
It’s hard to explain, but we had some problems with tractors in the past and that’s what they recommended us to do and it’s been working so far.

How big is the farm?
@OneFieldAttaTime
@OneFieldAttaTime Год назад
We have our main hub which is where our shop to work on tractors and trucks is, and that’s where our grain bins are. And we have about 1800 acres of crops.
