I don’t care how good the new “Corvette” is in comparison to some icons as far as handling, numbers, etc. I’ve never been a huge fan of Corvettes, as they’ve always seemed to be owned by and deliberately designed to satiate the guys who NEEDED more attention, meanwhile most of America looks and yawns at Corvettes. Excepting of course the 1965-1967 Big block version. Sexy no matter how you slice it, yet understated and masculine, the one where “taste” was still thrown around during the design process. Beige and after it has always seemed to be in the same level of crassness that the word vulgar meant at the same time. Yes, I could call the 1st gen Corvettes vulgar, when viewed from the time when Lucy and Desi couldn’t even be DEPICTED as sharing a bed on TV even though they portrayed a married couple. Bonkers. What next, a blow job in the Oval Office? If that happens we will have overstayed our welcome as leaders of the free world. What? Seriously? No way in hell. Total bullshit, never happened. In the mid 1960’s, do you think Chevy really gave a shit about the numbers produced by Ferrari or Maserati or Porsche? Do you think they cared about where the engine was? They made the Corvair for goodness sake, been there, done that, overachieved, and never got the credit deserved. They took the once piddly toy meant to keep deep pockets stateside, and threw that for,HOA out with the shitty kitty litter and made a monster at odds with their own corporate rules. That was a sports car, and a monstrous one at that, with the Cobra and Miura the only things to compete yet a fraction of their cost, and surely more reliable than either. The 458 was love at first sight back then, along with the 308, and besides those modern Ferraris, I’ve thought they were designed with the vulgarity of Countach as the baseline. Enzo, Testarossa, F40, like top notch combovers on older men that actually got what they want, yet still desperate. Porsche. Eh. Never gave a crap except for the 928, muscular and sexy, and of course the Panamera has been a running joke for more than a decade, until……….the Tourismo version. I always need resuscitation after seeing one of those. Painfully beautiful. But I have a thing for wagons, so there. What the hell do I know? Too much, apparently.

My youngest daughter, who just turned 16 last month, saw a few 458 Speciale in Miami at a dealership we stopped at in 2013 when she was 6. She fell in love with them and wants to eventually wants to own one.

I'm ashamed to say I didn't like it back then compared to the F430. Now I own a 458.

The z06 z07 competes with the GT3 and the ZR1 competes with the top of the 9/11 stack (Turbo/S and GT 3RS). I'm expecting the ZR1 to beat or tie the 911 Turbo, with the Zora probably beating the Turbo S. 850bhp in the ZR1 and close to or over 1000 in the Zora, the Zora will be chomping at the heals of top tier hypercars with 1000bhp and somehow under 250k (before options). The Zora's powertrain will be comparable to a McLaren P1, Laferrari, Porsche 918, etc. with a modern infotainment system. Wild stuff coming out of the USA, FINALLY! The USA also holds the Guinness book of world record top speed for a stock road legal car.

As many others have not bothered to mention, this is not the track focused GT3, and it has a MANUAL. The GT3 RS with a PDK would be the comparison to a Z07...

As many others haven't pointed out, that this isn't a performance comparison video, this video just shows how these cars feel to drive compare to each other, so Z06 with Z07 pack wouldn't have made much difference. Also worth pointing out that this just the GT3 and not the GT3 with MR package.

​@@dan3162 in order to get people to sign off on giving you a car you need to create a test at the manufacturers will all approve. If you give a review or your car to review against manufacturers car and the reviewers says that they manufacturers car is better that just screwed you. And even worse, it might be because of something to do with the reviewer and not you so it's better for you to make sure that there's clear delineation between your product and the competitor's product that way it's more of a product showcase and you don't get screwed in some weird dumb way. Take a test track like vir that car and driver does, the manufacturers have to send people along with the cars to make sure the car performs at its best because they don't want a user watching the review and getting a bad impression. The only way you're going to get unbiased opinions is when actual owners get together.

Hopefully they take that engineering talent and make at least one actually compelling vehicle for the mass market. Right now there's nothing in the GM portfolio that's anywhere near best in class.

It's a shame Mary wasn't around to stop GM Holden being dumped in the bin, but I appreciate that in the last couple of years they chose one of our utes to be a test mule for the C8

It's not for corporate executives with gobs of money, it's meant to be driven by motoring enthusiasts who are on a budget. Yeah it's not going to be the most luxurious, but it's going to be luxurious enough for the average person to think that it is some exotic car. And unlike the more expensive foreign cars, it's not going to cost an arm and a leg to maintain it. That's really where the Corvette beats out it's competition. You don't have to take it to some luxury mechanic who has all of the dealer specific tools to work on it. You could work on it yourself if you wanted, plus with it being LS based, any modifications are going to be significantly cheaper due to the wide variety of aftermarket parts available.

And the Corvette is the only car of the three that does not have to deal with currency exchange, import duties, shippings. Price a Corvette in Europe.

Due to mark up, most will purchase a Z06 for 200k, an averagely optioned 992 gt3 is 225k (used because who can find a new one on the lot) and a 458 Italia is about 200k.

As someone who has taken his 458, 488, F8 and Pista on many roadtrips, it is very clear that you don't have the faintest clue. Yes US roads are utter crap, but you can't expect the rest of the western world to want cars designed for development countries. As for the Z06? Did you see Rob Ferettis video on the wheel issues? Newsflash. Do you think a Z07 with CF wheels or just the low profile fronts of the Z06 will fair any better than those on an F8 for example? Okay. Glad we cleared that up.

Or... and heres a wild thought... testing a car over a decade old against brand new vehicles would be completely and utterly irrelevant. And given it's age it's very likely a car that they talked a member of public into letting them use so they likely had restrictions on what they could do with it.

@kevin if money was no object then very few car enthusiasts (aside from flag waving Americans) would pick a Corvette over a Ferrari or Porsche. By Chevy's own admission, they're trying to emulate Ferrari and Porsche for less money. If you had the money though...why settle for a knock-off when you could have the real deal. It's got nothing to do with stats either. Even if the Corvette was quicker around a track very few car enthusiasts would pick it if they had the money to buy a Ferrari. You're paying for the experience, the history, the pedigree, etc. My $20 Casio watch from Walmart is "better" than a $5,000 Rolex in terms of accuracy. But it's not a Rolex. That's not to say the Corvette is bad. It's ridiculously good. It will just never be a Ferrari. Sorry.

@@MrCuriocat lol I can't say I fully disagree with this sentiment, my argument would be; price point aside I'd tend to lean towards the GT3 with big wing and all being track focused which in turn lines up better with the Z07 pack car (and if it was full blown track time comparison the GT3 would have to be PDK). Where the base z06 isn't "as" track focused and would line up better against the GT3 Touring. Id prob argue if you wanted to bring in the heavy hitters ie 458 especiale and GT3RS, the vette to compare there would be the ZR1. All good fun though.

This Corvette configuration is two steps down from the Porsche. It's not an equivalent model comparison and it certainly seems deliberate. That tells us many interesting things....

@@danrook5757 Most likely they didn't track it because this wasn't exactly an apples to apples comparison, variant wise. Z06 is a convertible and not the coupé, it's just a guess from my side.

Check out the Car&Driver lightning lap. 458 in 2103 did the VIR in 2:49.9. 2023 Z06 shaved off 10 seconds. 2:38.6. Just wow.

Z06 with the Z07 package destroyed both the GT3 and Lamborghini STO in car and drivers lightning lap by a substantial margin. It is also faster than a McLaren 720s on track, and a hair slower than a 765LT. Both American magazines Car and Driver and Road and Track have posted real lap times with seasoned drivers. A base C8 Stingray is faster than a Base 458 on track as well.

I think the Z06 was faster too. There is a great head to head of the 2008ish ZR1 against a 911TT and a Ferrari something called "Monsters Brawl" and the Vette destroyed the others, even if the British race driver wouldn't admit it, was way faster around the track. Think the same was true here too.

When they took away the Ferrari, I thought for sure it was because they were about to have an actual shootout. Sadly disappointed by the thunderous lack of lap times. GM built this car to take on the world and they deserve the glory if it is due, or alternatively, to be put in their place. What an anti-climax.

Shows there's a sweet spot when it comes to road cars. Bigger isn't always better.

It overheats on track. It is something missing from about every review. It also has a 14 over 1 compression ratio that needs high octane to properly operate. The brakes give out from heat, and it rides stiff on ANY road surface.

Have you driven a 458? It is round and while being a tad on the thick side, it is very comfortable and well designed.

It is high and the seat in general DOES fell as if it was made for fat people.

Not me anymore. GM gives you far more car for the money. The 992 GT3RS reviews are in, and it isn't road worthy anymore and rides like a brutal race car on the street.

Everyone says that until they actually ride inside the gt3. Most people say it's impossible as a road car because of how uncomfortable the suspension and seats are and they'd rather drive a Honda civic on the road.

@@eats4cheaps305 Dont ever forget the ZL11LE Camaro that GM warned people about because it was nothing but brick stiff on the street. The people still bought it and complained. I simply dont want a real race car that has suspension stiff enough to bounce me around on the road.

CarWow posted a 458 Spaziale vs a base C8 convertible and it barely beat the C8 to the 1/4 mile.

Hardcore GT3? This just the base GT3 like the Z06, there's a MR kit like the Z07 package and then there's the hardcore GT3 RS. Price wise, Corvette's are cheaper for a reason.

From an objective standpoint I’d agree. But we don’t buy cars purely for their numbers. I’m pretty sure any of us would take something like an E46 CSL over a modern M3, sometimes the character and feel of a car is more important than pure performance.

@@rlhmarines I wouldn’t buy a track day car, that’s kind of my point. What I mean though is that perhaps sometimes the way a car feels is more important than the lap time it produces. I’d much rather take a C6 or even a C5 for that traditional front-engined ‘Vette goodness.

@@ronretired282 yes but thats a lot of money if you consider that possibly some car dealers will ad (like in the usa) their own share on top... We are getting to 200k plus it will have the same problems selling that the standard c8 had in Europe. In 10 months or so that the c8 is on sale I have seen 2 on the streets literally and the prices are actually dropping because they are standing in the showroom for months. Also consider that much like in usa Ferrari McL etc are exotic the same are Corvettes in europe which means mechanics will ask way more to work on them than in the usa, ask much more for spare parts, and not last europe penalises heavily cars which are not very c02 efficient. Where I live for example importing used c8 will cost me more than importing a used 911.... because of the c8's poor c02 efficiency.
