Henry Weil heard drums and marching well before catching sight of the German troops thundering down the street in front of his apartment in 1938 Vienna. At first, young Henry thought this was an occasion for celebration, but then, he turned from the window and saw his mother crying.
Over the next year, the Weils were forced from their apartment, while Henry’s father struggled to secure paperwork to get the family out of Vienna.
