The Trend spec is extraordinarily well kitted out for a lower range model .... I'm impressed. The bi-turbo is plenty good enough considering it was the top engine in the 2021 Ranger / Everest.
3 months in and I am loving my Trend. Easy transition up from a Mondeo. Driving dynamics are terrific. Wife was angsty about size of vehicle and now realises how good is the higher seating position and the ride comfort on highway and off road. Really impressed in economy. Cabin noise very low and sound system easy to work. Would have liked the brilliant voice control of the Mondeo repeated in the Everest. Car Play and Siri nowhere near as easy to use. Have mates with other 4WD brands who get sad 😢 when I am looking at a 4l/100k difference to them even when not towing. Yep I am loving this vehicle.
Prado is typical Toyota 5 years behind the rest of the motoring industry, there's 0 reason to not compare Everest to it other than 1 eyed head stuck in the sand opinions of brain washed Toyota heroes. ...and I owned a 2008 Sahara diesel for 8 years.
I took delivery of my new-gen Trend in late October and have travelled about 4500km so far, roughly 1:2 city:country. My previous vehicle was an April 2020-delivered Trend, also 2.0L Bi-turbo, in which I had travelled 82000km to all parts of WA in that 2.5 years. It did not miss a beat. Plenty of highway and outback dirt cruising, but almost no hard-core 4Wding. So far, I'm a little disappointed in the fuel consumption, showing at 9.6L/100, whereas the previous vehicle averaged about 8.6L/100km. Hopefully it will improve with time. One thing to be aware of with travel on gravel roads is that the rear mudflaps are too short to prevent stones abrading the mudflaps and underbody lip behind the mudflaps. It was also a problem on the previous model, but is significantly worse on the new model. At least the new model has a black plastic underbody cover. It's already shredded, but at least the chips have not peppered the paintwork as happened on the previous model. For a vehicle supposedly developed and tested in Australia, I find it bizarre that it was not noticed and action taken to mitigate it in the design. Ranger rear mudflaps appear to extend lower. I've written to Ford Australia about it but, of course, no reply or even acknowledgement. By my estimate, the rear mudflaps need to extend 30-40mm lower.
I noticed you mentioned the front parking sensors go off when exiting the water crossing and that it'd be nice to have a switch to turn them off. If you look in front of the gear lever there is a button there to disable them :)
Been umm and ahhing about what to buy for the last few months and was seriously considering the mux but for the same amount of money theres just so much more on offer here in terms of tech and its a nicer design .. I don't plan on doing serious offroading so this suits me fine.
Same here but I’m leaning towards the MUX. Ford has it on tech. but having a full size computer in front of me while driving just isn’t appealing. I will test drive both in a couple of months though before waiting 12 months for delivery !
After your detailed review, we decided to buy Endeavour (in India) in 2016, we enjoy every ride till now. It is sad that Ford left India, and we can't buy this now! Thanks for this nice review again Paul.
Why do people keep comparing everest to the prado they are not the same category. Fortuner and pajero is the same category as this. Its bronco vs prado not everest vs prado
Just wait til NextGenII in a couple years and you’ll see it added. Can’t give up all the fruit in the first release. Hopefully they fix up that gruesome front end in the next series.
Yup your right on the money! went for the Trend... wider guards 20 inch wheels now looks the part ..... Brillant truck.. defiantly not entry level lots or bells and whistles ! Lots of road presents as well! It's just awesome.... saying a lot as I've always gone for Toyota...... time for a change, Sold!!
Everyone updates their phone for faster performance. So then why do car manufactures feel slow laggy screen refreshes are fine on a 2022 infotainment system. They're not.
The my23.5 platinum will have steel underbody protection as standard. Thanks for the review. Purchased an Everest at the start of Nov. Signed up for the pre delivery dashcam which when included with Luxury car tax comes to 2.9k (front and back cameras with battery pack) knowing about the usb near the rear view mirror will definitely be cancelling.
Everest is a perfect car off the showroom that’s affordable and ready for a trip around Aus. Hitch up a caravan and anything else for that matter and set off in confidence and safety
Another great video Paul, hoping you’re going to do a v6 sport review as have one due for delivery next month and really interested to see whether its the same off-road.
Had a good old chuckle at "a smaller display that looks a little bit...not as impressive" Just say it...a little bit sheit? I though so too. :) Nice car though.
Paul, the longer wheelbase of the Ranger will give it an advantage on that hill. Also, the ground looked quite damp, which clogged up the tyres. This will affect the traction.
@@CarExpertAus the fact that it was dry simply equalised the two cars. The car with 21" wheels had dry ground while the Trend had wet with 18" wheels. For off-roading, a higher profile will always be superior. Your Raptor for example has 17" wheels with an even larger profile as the tyre diameter is larger.
for your hill section, perhaps I am wrong, but I think the reason why it doesn't do as well is because it does lock the center differential. Whereas the Ranger mechanically locks the center when in 4L. This lack of center differential lock is or was in the previous generation also and hardcore enthusiast complain about this. Looking at the wheel slippage from your camera angle, it seems that this was the issue on the hill climb. thoughts?
I have the v6 sport and loving everything about it so far the platinum is a waste of money. Just need to swap out the 20inch wheels for 17s and some ATs and we good to go
Hello Paul I love your videos, if I had to choose I car I would like you to review it would be the Toyota 70 series: troop carrier (my favourite car). PS nice video.
Bit off subject here ... half the people I know have a dual cab of all brands of these the only ones I know of that have had a major engine problems over the last 2 to 3 years have been Ford's ... 3 that I know of and now days almost no one can repair/recondition any modern motor of any kind so this usually makes the vehicle a write-off when being out of warranty and not giving any support from the manufacturer.
I am looking at a Ranger in XLT or potentially Sport and it's kind of annoying that they miss out on some of the interior goodies only available on the Wildtrack where this Trend gets them and its second from the bottom. It's only minor things but can't understand why the Wildtrack is the only one available with the 12" screen, 2nd glovebox and those additional cup holders. I know it's a 1st world problem but surely Ford could have at least thrown that into the Sport for the Ranger aswell?
I'm sick of these review videos, can't you guys just please make a proper off-road video of this machine. With proper alloys and proper AT tyres. I wanna see it's breaking point, like where does it fail in proper extreme off roading condition
Yes many cars today share platforms that were designed with many different models in mind. If anything I think Ford's new platform was designed as an SUV in mind with input from VW as the new Ranger definitely doesn't handle like most other utes. A comparison between Everest and Fortrunner would be no contest in all bar possibly extreme off-road situations which buyers of these vehicles generally don't encounter.
Are you sure the front has steel underbody protection? On the current Ranger and Everest it is plastic. Maybe a note on the uphill test, what was the tyre pressures for each of the vehicles? It makes a massive difference. In my last video I tested it on a 4x2 Everest. From basically getting stuck in sand at 2.5 just by lowering it to 1.0 bar I was able to drive without any problems.
@@4WheelingSA No idea but probably not that thick, also seems they've changed it since I ordered, it's standard on the Platinum and has been removed from the off-road pack.
@@simonr2364 it's changed, if you go build one now it's standard on Platinum, and removed from the off-road pack, no idea why Ford keeps changing things.
Drove both I recon the engine noise is actually about the same u can’t really get rid of it from a diesel engine anyway.. but tyres do make a difference tho
A fairer comparison would be the Toyota Fortuner as it's the ute based Toyota SUV. While Prado does still get cross-shopped, the Fortuner is the technical competitor.
Ute based or not ute based is kind of irrelevant - What matters is the end result. Everest end result is very good, much better than Fortuner, therefore comparisons start with Prado.
@@gtok12345 agree on that. Looking at the size and specifications I would compare it against the Prado. Perhaps the previous Everest was comparable to the Fortuner but definitely not this new model.
I have the new Everest Trend and find it very good. The only thing I am disappointed in is the operating manual is only in the onboard screen and there does not seem to be downloadable version. It is not a user-friendly manual!
@20:58 Feels louder than in the Platinum... Also, according to your google docs this is quieter than the Platinum??!! One of the readings must be off...
It would compete with the Fortuner rather than the Prado. Prado is rubbish anyway. I imagine the Everest weighs more than the Ranger which might explain why the Ranger performed better.
Nice review, altough hard to compare to the Toyota prado as it is so dated on the interior... could not bring myself to pay for such and outdated looking vehicle in 2023.
The manual mentions shifting between 2H, 4A and 4H can be done at any speed. Do they really mean any speed? Most shifts on the fly I’ve seen are capped at 100km/h. Is the Everest system really “any speed”?
We have a 2021 Ford Ranger XLT and have always wanted the Everest rather than the Ute but the towing capacity wasn’t as good until now. We have a 2.5 atm Off road Rhinomax and wondering if the Trend would be suitable. We don’t do any serious off road driving whether towing or not. Cheers
This along with the ranger just feels unfinished / rushed out. lots of cheap shortcuts taken, laggy unresponsive screens and average ergonomics. For 65 - 85k I’d expect a whole let better.
Paul - It’s interesting that you say the 4 cylinder is noisier, but the noise spreadsheet says otherwise. The data shows the 4 cylinder Trend is noisier on a smooth surface at 80km/h as compared to the Everest Platinum V6, but quieter in all the other measurements despite being on all terrain tyres.
USB for the dashcam is wow. The second row seats do not look comfy, less under thigh support. I would have liked 4 seater version where rear two seats are captain dentist's seats that can recline almost horizontal.
I tried to do the build and price on the Ford Web pages and for the trend model i couldn't pick the touring pack. Is this just cause it was online? Or i have to talk to the dealership in person to get the touring pack
Interesting Review. How would it compare to the Toyota Fortuner? I currently drive the Fortuner and the current Everest. The everest drives really nice, it just feels as if the Fortuner is a bit tougher. As if you can throw more tuff conditions at it. Maybe it is just a perception.
the old everest was already better than the fortuner. almost all the ute-based 4x4 wagons are better than the fortuner - as family cars. in heavy off road driving i suspect the fortuner will be a bit better than the everest.
Hey Paul maric my son i like watching RU-vid videos CarExpert on disability support pensioners born in Australia at Wollongong hospital 1963 talking not good my son said sorry talk English
Beautifully reviewed I reckon, Paul. Wished you had touched bit more on road noise aspect. Personally I detest road and environmental noise and want a SUV wish almost works like a noise cancelling on the inside? I like the Trend but how noisy would you really say it is. ?Thanks
Hey there - we show the noise measurements in dB on the screen at the 20:56 mark. The comparison to other cars in the segment is in the spreadsheet that's linked in the description. We are still building out this table.
I really don't understand what these pickup-based SUVs are doing in developed country like Australia. These PPV are mostly designed for developing countries and emerging markets (e.g. places with lower levels of income). These vehicles look cheap and out-of-place in higher income territories like Australia
