Not denying it’s capabilities, but do you have a video that’s it’s actually challenged in? This type of surface is packed dirt with very little actual deep sand. A front wheel drive crossover would have easily made it through this.
I’ll be hitting some truck trails in our area when I get time and will post anything I take at that point. I can promise you a front wheel drive crossover would not make it through this- I took my 17 Explorer FWD through it and it got stuck. People get stuck on this beach all the time, so as much as it may look packed (it is higher up the beach) where I am turning and going back and forth is the softest deepest sand at the beach. Perhaps the video is deceiving, but this is deep fluffy sand, between the packed sand higher up that everyone parks on and the firm wet sand closest to the water.
Hey boss what model is that? Did you look into the AWD system before buying? I keep hearing that the base models don't have the same off road capabilities as the XSE and above.
It’s an LE, so the “base” awd system. I did look into it. I think either awd system will be fine, this has been flawless in snow and sand. My concern with the “Nicer” awd system was that its not always on. More computers and clutches to fail, is my thought. It also fully disengages the rear axle when not needed, which the base system isn’t capable of doing. The manual says the system I have on the LE still splits power 50/50 front and rear. For the ground clearance this thing has, I can’t imagine the awd system being what stops me from going anywhere. Ill high center or bottom out before the traction is lost I think. The higher level system may well be theoretically more capable, but it’s just more to worry about in my mind.

I was at a dealer today and I asked one of the techs and he says the AWD system is mechanically the same in all models so the base models are just as capable as their higher trim counterparts in off road scenarios. Now I'm just going to shop for a good deal. Thanks and congrats on getting your pilot.
