I had never heard this “feature” until my friend pulled into my drive with her new crv. I legitimately thought something was terribly wrong with her new car. It sound absolutely terrible! Lol
@@giarc0 I was also alarmed with the weird sound but later realized it is a safety issue for pedestrians so I will leave mine alone. A little annoyance to save a life ? Well worth it in my book.
I plan on putting a switch under my dash as a cutout. I don't mind the sound normally, but there have been times late at night/Early morning when it can wake people up.
That's exactly why I remove that stupid thing.... entire cul-de-sac knows im backing out of my driveway.... and there is no regulation for any electric cars to have it
I love my 2024 CR-V Sport except for this ridiculously loud noise! I'm hoping that within a year or two Honda will get enough complaints that they'll come out with a replacement speaker you can buy with either a more pleasant sound (like an engine noise), or even just a MUCH lower volume. You can hear the damn thing from down the block!
I was thinking the same thing about using a foam material to dampen the sound. I don’t want to turn it off but just reduce how loud it is because it’s just overwhelming in reverse. IMO the reverse should be the same as the forward loudness. The car already has really good reverse sensors for the driver to see people or cars coming even when they are not in view of the camera. The only thing I would change here is instead of using a closed cell foam use a medium cell density open cell polyether foam, this should dampen more is sound bounces around the cells of the foam and open cell will allow moisture to move more freely. A polyester wouldn’t handle moisture as well long term.

I bought a 2023 Prius and yes, I had the same NOISE problem. I wrapped my speaker, and it is pretty quiet. To me it is a real pain in the butt to have this on a hybrid, but it is much better than it was.

I had heard that an 8 OHM resistor can be used but I wonder if the system will recognize it and issue a warning? Here we spend big bucks for a hybrid and the noise is offensive. I traded in my 2016 Prius and it didn't have this issue, yet they claim they have been around for many years. I have yet to hear this noise from other "so called" EV cars. When I took delivery of this new Prius, NO ONE said a word about it and come to think of it I test drove a 2023 Prius at another dealer and I DIDN'T hear any noise. I wonder if they made it so it didn't make the noise when people test drove it??? You can't miss this noise. Keep us posted Ivan and thanks for what you do.
We looked into this after I got my 23 sport. For sure unplugging the speaker will eventually throw a fault code ! So I decided to mute the speaker ! BTW I believe the stock noise is overkill and a nuisance ! In other markets there is an inactive switch on dash where you can deactivate it ! But not on US units !! For obvious reasons ! So best to mute the speaker to deaden the loud sound ! Also. I did a random check of like models and found that there is no consistent level ie some were quieter in reverse than others ! Meaning there is no db spec or some conditions make it louder or quieter !!!
I purchased the vehicle not knowing about the strange humming noises. I'm not sure I'm a fan yet. My wife and especially my dog love it. They can hear me a mile away.
I can’t stand the sound when I reverse. Also it gets a lot of attention from people and they think something is wrong with your vehicle. I would have never bought this car knowing how loud this is.
Without cutting any factory wires get a set off speaker wires with Honda specific connectors. Install the potentiometer between the speaker and the factory connectors. Adjust the potentiometer to the volume that you desire. Adjust it so it can still be audible to pedestrians. Just not as loud.
Every EV and hybrid has to have some kind of sound at low speed. It is regulation. But the sound itself, could differ from manufacturers to manufacturers
understand their should be a warning sound, but this is horrible noise. We had a tow truck pick up and sent to the dealership after 1 day. No one advised about it. @@tokyoluGS
Yesterday I was in a parking garage and a new Honda hybrid came down the ramp. I could hear it from a mile away. Once it was next to me, it was absolutely louder than a conventional IC engine. So annoying. Right behind it was a fully electric Chevy volt running completely silently, not polluting its surroundings with fake unnecessary noise. It's so stupid that Honda goes out of their way to make sure everyone within a 100ft radius will know that "HEY I OWN A HYBRID VEHICLE"
Totally unnecessary noise and if I owned one I would be embarrassed about it too. My neighbor has one and it wakes me up at night as they work at night and are coming and going. Way too loud!!
I’ve silenced mine with a resistor. Simple bypass. I can plug it back on and off. Complete silence. Yes, the new 2023 CRV is louder then most hybrid/electric car out there.
I found a way to keep the speaker unplugged and not have the error message come up on the dash. Get a resistor and tap into each wire from the speaker.
Yes I know that way but what kind of resistor??? Also when you go forward and backwards you need different type of resistors because voltage changes. And you do not tap to each wire because one is positive another is negative, you have to complete a proper circuit. so it's much harder than you think it is juts by adding a resistor. That's why I didn't even mentioned this option in this video
@@IvanRossS I just used one that I had laying around in my garage. It’s a 50W 6ohm resistor, used wire taps to complete the circuit. Have been using it for about a month with no speaker in the car and no message on the dash.
Wow! Pretty sure the Acoustic Speaker is put in buy law. That’s one of the most irresponsible safety deletions I’ve seen. No one can hear you coming. Think how much better your gas mileage would be if you removed your seatbelts. At least the seatbelts would only effect you. Great move.
@@davidconboy5822 any Prius hybrids pre 2021 are completely silent. If those cars are allowed to be out on the roads making 0 noise what’s the difference?
Thank you so much for the video! I just got a 2023 (certified and used) and realized the sound after the car was delivered. Worried that it might be a faulty car:). Your video really offered the peace of mind. I have to say it is a pretty stupid design from the Honda side.
I have the same issue on my Rav4 hybrid. If i unplug it the car throws a code. I hate the sound. I like the hydraulic hood struts on the HRV, Rav still uses a prop rod. Both are excellent vehicles.
I read that the noise will not come on in reverse if you turn on A/C or the heat enough to make the engine come on before putting it in reverse. I have not tested this but will in the morning.

My 2023 CRV Hybrid was completely quiet just by unplugging the speaker the way you did. I ran some errands and so far I got NO notifications after one day. Love it! Do you know how to get rid of the fake engine sound when accelerating in Sport mode? Sound comes from under the car and features shifting sounds and loud exhaust note. Thanks!

Just so you know this noise is there to alert pedestrians because in EV mode the car is nearly silent. It will do this at low speeds when the engine is off. Good luck when you hit someone and your insurance doesn't cover it.
Good luck with all Tesla owners.. and Rivian trucks... they do not make absolutely no noise.. And I do not understand, this is exactly what I said in my video!!! what is the point to repeat my words .. I already said that in my video, this system made to alert pedestrians... multiple times !!!
All it knows is that the connection is broken. If you connect two certain wires together on that wiring harness I am sure that you could leave it unplugged and the car wouldn't even know.

Thank you for this video it was very helpful. Do you happen to have the part number to this speaker? I recently went to a local audio shop to upgrade my horn and he thought this speaker was a horn and chucked it. When I was inspecting the car , I noticed the wire dangling. and then the error message came on. Since this is a requirement for safety, he told me he will reimburse me the cost. Thank you in advance
Just check with the dealer !! I take it the horn is too wimpy I believe the horn is way too wimpy for a vehicle that looks like that. It’s more suited for a fiat or mini cooper. Needs to have 2 trumpets not just one with a high pitch. ! So vehicle alert is too loud and horn is too soft !!!!!!
I wonder if this is due to US regulations. I own a Southeast Asian version (Philippines) and ours sound much weaker-- more like the one after the foam fix.
Installing a resistor in the circuit in place of the noise maker is genius idea and the spec's of this are in a post above. If I had one of these cars I would do this immediately!!
So it won’t effect, me playing music or anything like that, just the warning symbol? I’m asking because I’m going to buy one either today or Tomorrow and I want to be sure that when I unplug it, it won’t effect any other feature in the car
Very interesting video. I have a wonderful neighbor that had a really nice 2021 Accord and it was a gas car and so quiet. I never heard it start or even running it was so quiet. But now they got a 2023 CRV and that spaceship sound is so annoying and actually wakes me up in my own home. I get all the legal stuff and that is the society we live in today but that Accord was the quietest car I have ever seen or been around. I loved that car for as quiet as it was and maybe it needed a noise maker if folks are getting run over. I'm old enough to remember my parents telling me to look both ways before crossing the street, sadly I gather this lesson had gone away and now we have generations of idiots that step off curbs and get run over. I remember something about Darwin................??????
@@IvanRossS it literally is a rule. S6.7.3 of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 141, Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid and Electric Vehicle. If you're illiterate just say that.
I absolutely hate this frickin' noise. I have neighbors that insist on backing in to their parking spot at least three times a day. It wouldn't be a problem if they'd back into the spot within 20 seconds, but they take 5 minutes to do it each time. It feels never-ending and the entire neighborhood can hear the sound. I wish I knew them well enough to send them this video. It's beyond obnoxious.
You can’t just say not responsible before showing people how to silencing it. As you said, this sound has a purpose, and it is a strict regulation for all EV and hybrid cars. And silencing it is just dangerous. You should remove this video imo

Electric vehicles operate quietly and this sound helps to alert pedestrians of your oncoming vehicle. The sound, which activates whenever Model 3 is shifted out of Park, gets louder as speed increases.

I actually love the noise! If you don't like the noise, BUY A DIFFERENT CAR!! And yes, it's a FEDERAL REQUIREMENT for EVs. Leave it alone so you don't get a lawsuit or jail. It sounds like a spaceship. Get over it. That's what comes with the territory of EVs. Better than the annoying backup beep of the Kia Niro or Mach E Mustang!!
