I’m not interested in an electric tractor. It won’t run a days work for me. I wish they would stop all this stuff. What are they doing with all the batteries when discarded
@billageguy2168

The bigger question is “what it takes to make those batteries?”.....

I'm ok with electric. But dont try to sell me on great it is for the environment. Wonder how many of our members of congress/ senate are invested in the industry they're trying to push. Maybe they should be required to disclose that.
@TractorTimewithTim

Yea, let me make it clear. My interest in electric equipment has nothing to do with “the environment”. Rational folks (like you) recognize that these electric products are as bad or worse for that. I am interested to see how they actually compare. 6 hours charge would be enough for most of my projects.
@coypatton3160
@coypatton3160 Год назад
@@homesteadersanonymous1447 I wish I could give you lots of 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍! Consider the environmental damage to produce these batteries (do your own research if you are unaware), the relative short life span of these batteries, the deposal issues of these batteries, and the expense of replacement of the batteries, all these before you get into a consideration of the electric grid infrastructure not able to support current needs, how can it support a bunch of EV’s? How environmental friendly is it to need a generator independent of the electric grid? We the citizens of the USA are being scammed-who is getting their pickets stuffed?
@brianhillis3701
@brianhillis3701 Год назад
California, Texas and Oklahoma have grids that are stressed and they have rolling blackouts during bad weather. California, the biggest agricultural state, just announced you cannot charge electric vehicles for many hours a day. In California if the wind blows they turn off electricity. No new baseline electric generating plants will be approved for the next two years and it takes 8 to 20 years to build most of them. Peaking units using natural gas or coal gasification can be built in 18 months from the time of approval. Approval takes at least two years. If you can live with this buy an electric tractor.

That Solectrac really caught my attention. I think it'd be interesting to see you and Christy both put one of those through the same tests as the other brands you've done in the past. Add in one of your friends/neighbors and it should make for a good compare/contrast segment. The one thing I've seen on a ztr product from Greenworks is a solar panel canopy. If Solectrac has one of those, it could be something to help those just using it for small farm tasks.

Interesting comments on the single point hydraulic connection system. I was just at my dealer Friday as they are prepping my new 1025r (I’m trading in my “old” 2320). They called to discuss an issue with using the single point connection with the snowblower. Since the quickhitch which is using 2 of the hydraulic ports can stay on the tractor to be used with other attachments (e.g., broom or blade). They didn’t recommend using the regular single point connection assembly on the blower. After visiting them to see, I agreed and I liked their solution which is to put flat-faced connectors on the blower and quickhitch - so you still connect and disconnect 4 hoses, but it’s easier that the older connectors (and less messy). I’ll post some pics when I get the tractor in a couple weeks.

Interesting you started with Claas, my cousin that farms the family’s land is in I believe his 3rd Claas combine. Several years ago he started raising peanuts. His JD tractors would not travel at the slow speed required for harvest (I at my age 59 when peanuts were last on our land could walk faster than the tractors were traveling) so he rented Claas tractors. I believe he has since purchased 2 that had been rental units. They are not tracked tractors however.

That Soletrac tractor is pretty neat. If it has good run-time and could travel about on some decent sized property it would be good for use on a small farm if you were near neighbors who complain about even the slightest noise. Our forklifts at work are all electric units so I don't see a problem with an electric tractor at some point. Though I don't think I'd give up my GC1723E for one. Especially since I haven't had it for a year yet. Though I wouldn't mind having one of the big Claas Axion's you were playing with at the beginning of the video. :)

A lot of people have been bashing and putting down the electric tractor personally I think it's pretty neat and it's really not designed to be a replacement for the diesel tractor rather it is to fill a specific niche in the market for someone who doesn't need a lot of run time but occasionally needs the capacities of a tractor. Or an industrial application such as a sports arena where they would need to pull a drag around a baseball field or need to pull equipment carts onto a Stadium Field where the tractor is used Maybe 10 or 15 hours a month this is a absolute perfect application for that and especially where no real fluid checks and fuel is needed to be stored just plug it in and let it sit until it is needed. Or for the hobby farmer or property owner that probably has a zero turn to cut grass with and needs a tractor more as a helping hand for lifting, plowing snow off their driveway occasional tasks that amount to 2 to 3 hours a day I see this as being a real advantage for some people. Now personally for me the electric tractor would not be a good fit because yes sometimes I use my Kubota BX for only a few hours a day then weekends come around and I might use it eight or nine hours in a day but a lot of people do not put that kind of time on their tractor
@scottsoper
@scottsoper Год назад
Yes Eric, the e25 and other electric tractors have a niche market. However they just would not even exist if it were not for the politics pushing them! The goal of that particular politics is to get rid of your Diesel tractor; so Yes it is meant to be a replacement for the diesel tractor. While we can think up the niche use for the tractor keep in mind that the goal of these people is to get rid of your choice, the Kubota BX. More over this less capable technology costs a lot more and it takes a VARY long time to recoup in fuel savings if ever. I am not vary familiar with Kubota but the BX that popped up on their website is only $11,155; John Deere 1025R is only $18,035; but the e25 is $27,999. How long can you run that Kubota or John Deere on that money that you saved by NOT getting the e25? Solectrac tells you their political goal right on the front page of their website: they are not hiding their views.
@scottsoper
@scottsoper Год назад
and yes the plan is to force that change. look up the new law on selling gas powered cars in California. It bans gas and diesel car from being sold after 2035

@danandfaith

LED lights can be manufactured in any color temperature. You can get 2700K lights to use in your home, and those are ideal for indoor use, as they’re the same color temperature as incandescent bulbs. In our basement, garage and barn, we use 5000K, as the whiter light is helpful in those areas. Some folks run 7000K headlights on cars, but that’s extremely taxing to the eyes of drivers of oncoming cars. I’d hope tractor vendors won’t go higher than 5000K (which is daylight temperature).

Tim… intrigued by the ultralight. Be more interested in a hydrocarbon fuelled unit. Concerning JD Tractor cockpit layout standardization, I offer the following recommendations based on ownership experience of 2R, 3E, 3R, 4M HD, and 5E models. Here goes… Do away with the E Series and make M your entry level trim. Replicated the 4M HD across all lines up to 5 series. Ditch all inline three cylinders and off Fours in every model. Add snail fender mount accelerator, telescopic draft links, two rear SCVs, two front SCVs, MSL loader options, SCV controls right fender, fuel tanks by stairwell, led lighting. This is the perfect mix.

Here in Nova Scotia, if you want to drive on the road, you need a plate(registration) and insurance. I have a General Purpose Plate on my old David Brown, and it costs $60 a year +-. The insurance is close to $200 a year, but covers Liability, and property damage. On a tractor the age of mine collision insurance would be an astronomical amount and hardly worth it, if it could even be had, and if memory serves me correct I could not get it. Even a separate insurance to cover theft or fire, was pretty pricey. There are farm plates, that can be acquired(must meet the requirements), and they never expire.If you are driving on the road, insurance is still required. As far as I know this is pretty much the same all through Canada, or the majority of it, at least.

In Pennsylvania if you are going to regularly drive on the road with equipment you must have a license plate.

That Aerial ATV was interesting. I could see people hopping in to go out and about and run errands and check cattle and crops. It would be smoother than a regular ATV, and maybe quicker, because you can fly in a straight line and not worry about using roads. Just have to watch out for those pesky power lines.(Ha!Ha!)

Good video. We have to soooooo see Christy flying that Aerial ATV!! I am also interested in seeing you demo an electric tractor and even an electric Gator. We have a XUV590M S4 Gator, I'd love to see an electric version. I am starting to look at an electric Stihl saw.

Depends on the province, Ontario doesn't need a plate for the road, Nova Scotia does need a plate not sure about the rest of the provinces

Hmm. I guess I have a bit of an anomaly here on my 22 1025R I picked up last week. I have the switch blanks on the right side and on the center stack, but the old style parking brake and halogen lights. My 120R loader and bucket also have the extra holes you showed.

Mine is the exact same. I even got the updated backhoe outrigger and boom locks. I Picked mine up early August. I prefer the halogen lights though. LED has a tendency to not melt the snow on the headlight lens very well. Plus if it ever goes out it's likely a few hundred bucks.

Anyone know what LED work lights Deere is using now? Might be a good swap on my 4052R.

On that Solectrac Tractor, still hydraulics for the loader lifting/tilt or are they also electric driven? Also, on the PTO, hydro or Electric? Thanks.

Yes, Quebec requires a plate and proof of insurance regardless if on the road or not. If you choose on road you of course pay more supposedly to help with thefts?

In Maine, farmers can travel to and from Thier land but if they do work off farm they have to get a tractor plate. As for home owners if the travel is to earn money we are supposed to register the tractor........ But on average if your respectful of traffic and not always in the road no one will bother you till you get reported and if you do you usually only get a warning

I noticed my newly arriving 2025r came with the new right side console with the knockout for the switches. I thought that was weird and thought maybe the other yr 2025r came with it also but couldn’t figure out when the change happened. Glad u pointed that out

Tim, another great informative video. In watching all the videos of the new electric cars, trucks and tractors, they never talk about the batteries themselves. What is the life expectancy of the batteries and the cost to replace them? I know that the battery in my 318 garden tractor lasts 3-5 years and my last battery cost $150.
@scottsoper
@scottsoper Год назад
I did not see cost for the e25 Solectrac battery but the e70n, which is a much bigger tractor has a $9,999 spare battery advertised. The e25 has a 2500 charge cycles and the e70n has 3000 charge cycles. Both of those estimates come with parameters of operations like not fully discharging the batteries EVER! It will be fun to see what TTWT can do with an e25!

@@scottsoper I imagine it would quickly prove to be like the electric pick up. 320 mile range. Pulls trailers just fine for 80 miles. Start using pto and hydraulics and battery life will drop fast. Probably decent life as a lawn mower don't expect to move gravel or dirt for very long. A good tool for some people not for me yet.
