Everything runs great and looks pretty Brand new. what me and everyone should be thinking about is, is longevity and repair cost even more so with companies john deere
8:11 could you do a video on using the wash port? I see a lot of riding mower videos with people saying the wash port is worthless, doesn't clean the deck very well. I've even seen small engine mechanics saying don't use the wash port, it'll cause the deck to rust faster, or it's not good for the bearings in the spindles. I think they're probably all full of crap, or they're just not using it right, or they didn't RTFM. Or maybe the instructions in the manual aren't very good, I don't know. What do you think of the wash port?
Brent, looking at the s240 versus s170. I like the feel and looks of 170 but I know the scuttle talk between Briggs and Kawasaki So, extend life Briggs what does that mean? What did they do to extend its life? If I order a 170 the first option I’m buying is the kit to convert it back to a normal oil change, which I’m sure that change alone will help extend its life 😊. Im not sure how a filled used oil filter can be recycled or can you dump the oil from the filter once removed. Appreciate your advice and you definitely know your product well. Lastly do you have or can you produce a video about the edge and accel decks pros and cons. Thanks.
Prices being almost equal I'd take the s240 with the smaller 42" deck. If you've got another $300 then get the s240 48". The s240 gets better gripping tires, and the accel deep deck leaves a beautiful cut at a higher speed so you can get done faster. You can also buy the mulch control kit that allows you to switch from mulching to side discharge at the flip of a lever. The Kawasaki is a fair bit more reliable than most engines. From what I understand the extended life Briggs engines have better air filtration and better valves and valve seats. I wish briggs and Stratton spent some time deciphering their engine stuff for the public
Random comment but I would be interested in the significance of any of the John Deere labels engine. Does it have an impact on replacement parts? Warranty? Why don’t other mower manufacturers relabel the Kawasaki, Briggs, or Koehler engines? Is this worth a video? What are pros and cons of the labeling if any?
I'm look at this or the S180. The only real difference I can see is the HP and deck size. Looks as if all the features are the same / similar. Anything I am missing? Thank you.
Kaleb, that’s a stupid question. I expected it to be a better tractor with better implements than other less expensive brands. I made the mistake of buying it while shopping for other stuff at Lowes and just went with what I thought was the best brand and the top model they had. After the problems, i went and looked at a cub cadet for the same price and it was way nicer. And im not going to spend 5-10k to cut grass on my little lot. No brand especially a Premium brand should ever put a plastic impeller in a snow blower. Ive had 3 no name push blowers that were steel. Jd wants something like $2000 for that pos? Like i said they are resting on their laurels and taking advantage of people’s trust in their name. That’s why I posted this to make people aware. So now if I want a tractor with a decent snowblower i have to sell my JD at a loss and start over. This Premium brand is inferior to other entry level tractors by other brands. Oh not only that, but you have to buy a kit and tear stuff apart in order to do an oil change! What the?? What did i expect buying the S170? Way more than this.
ours is falling apart - first we modded the deck so it doesn't cut the belt - e brake handle came off in my hand - fuel ga. shows I don't what it means - rear mow thing failed too - junk
you mention that there are only 3 grease points on the front of the S170. The 2023 S170 I looked at from Lowes also had 1 on each front wheel bearing. Are there difference in the same model???
Sorry, I wasn't very clear in my question. You state/show 3 on the front of your S170. 1 on each side axle spindle hub and 1 on the axle pivot point. My S170 has 5 on the front. The 3 you show and then 1 on each front wheel hub itself. It looked like your S170 was missing the wheel hub zerts. That's what has me confused@@WesternEquipment
@@kelh9329 I can tell you from experience, the X350 is WAY better in every category, so if I were you I would get the X350, and if that's too much then the S170 or S160 is way more bang for your buck then the S240.
I've broken 5...yes 5 of the orange brake levers so far on my 100 series since I've bought it new in 2021. It's plastic with a little tap attached to metal. It will literally snap and pull right off. I expect better from American made.
I would not call it an 'all in one' oil change system when 3/4 rs of the old oil is left behind and unchanged with the quick change system. Convert it to a real oil change if you don't want to buy a new mower must sooner because the old oil is never really changed. Conversion kit costs less than just one of those 'quick change' filters.
I have a 2023 JD S170 and it has 15.7 hrs on it. So far cheap plastic steering wheel cracked and took weeks to get in. Now the belt to the lawn mower deck broke and I have to pay $100 for the service center to pick it up and they seem unsure if it will be covered by warranty! Less than 16 hours of cutting my flat 1/3 acre grass in the suburbs. The hood has no support to stop the wind from catching it and breaking it, just plastic junk. I was going to get a snow blower but found out the impeller is made of plastic! Are you kidding me?! The dealership said this is entry level so they’re plastic. Total junk. My neighbor has a cheap tractor with a snow blower and it has a steel impeller, so does my push snow blower. JD Is greedy and resting on their laurels and ripping us off. I thought JD was top of the line and just bought the best one they had at Lowes. I’m going to sell it this spring and look at the competition.
Just my opinion, but don't buy this mower. The air filters don't seal tight a lot of the time and the quick change oil change filter and oil system cost $50 and only replaces less than half the oil in the engine.
Lost a whole Hp going from the E to the S also the quick change oil is way over priced a conversion kit with 2qt of JD oil and filter is $10 less and the savings get better with every oil change there after plus the engine will last longer because you get a complete oil change not a third of an oil change
