Had the predecessor HEV for over a year now and it’s the best KIA I have had to date (my 6th) will hang on to it for another couple of years as I like it so much but will not hesitate having the new version when the time comes. I am led to believe that the 2023 version has an electric boot, which in my opinion is the only thing the 2021 version lacks. Great car, very comfortable in top spec, good economy (50mpg + in most driving conditions) and great value for money overall here in the UK 👍
Thank you for your great informative video, Ive had the old Niro HEV for almost 4 years and love it and ordered the new '23 model last December and have just been told it has now shipped and will be in the UK soon, really keen to get into it now after such a long long wait for delivery, I hope its worth it.
Great Review showing the Details on the Old One and New One. I love the New One. Maybe i will buy One next Year in Germany. Thanks a lot for your Review. It helps me a lot to get an Overview.
I have the old (2020) e-Niro, and I love that car! It's not as exciting as a Porsche Taiga or Mustang Mach-E etc., but it's a great car with excellent mileage.
Good looking vehicle - this car aspires to C seqment, especially with Business Line + Premium package. Just lack of 360 camera (even as an option) seems to be ridiculous...
Nice, one of the issues with the outgoing model was the rough sounding engine ( a trait of the Atkinson cycle). It's amazing they've made the Smartstream as economic as the Kappa ii.
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 the outgoing is a Kappa II engine with Atkinson cycle. The New one is a smartstream with active valve timing. Literally no one is picking up on this.
Thx a lot for posting this! I was considering a 22 Kia Niro EX, however after seeing the 23 model: Wow! I have a 22 Elantra and she runs great however with gas prices going gonzo most def making a switch to a 50 or 100 + mpg vehicle in the future. Though I also love HD too! 😍
I have the older PHEV Niro, I like the dash layout better. Real buttons, don't have to switch from radio to heat controls, the older steering wheel looks much nicer and sportier also. The new niro steering wheel looks like cheap hard plastic. I also like the traditional floor shifter instead of a shifter button or dial.
The US version of the new Niro has a traditional shifter. Only the PHEV and EV will get the dial shifter. I do agree with you about the buttons and the steering wheel though. I'm sure I'd get used to it but they're not great.
the dial shifter is only on the top spec k4 model - the lesser models have a lever / handle - its kind of annoying that the tester's only ever seem to be given the top spec models to review when in fact there are 4 x new models in the Niro range
I have an 2018 Niro ex premium, and love it. The new one looks more futuristic, but I was hoping for even better mileage than gen 1. I will replace mine with another Niro, but it may be the plug in version.
i think if you add 2-3 minutes to show the interior and exterior of the car in the dark to see the light etc ( for all of your vids ) it well be add extra value for your vids :P thank you for great vids
Nice and useful presentation between new and old Niro versions. Even I own a 2018 Kia Sportage, I'm really interested to change it with the newest Niro. One question for you, guys: is there any differences between Kia and Hyundai cars in terms of quality of manufacturing? How the Kia models are seen in S. Korea comparing to Toyota models?
The answer to this would vary to a person to another. Toyota is considered and literally an import car brand, where Hyundai and Kia are domestic. Toyota doesn't seem to be considered more luxurious over two brands, but more like a personal taste.
In rare cases, there are color limitations, but most are available around all trims. Could differ from a country to another, so check with your dealership.
We have a 2022 plug in hybrid and very satisfied. 2023 guess you will pay more but they are getting same gas mileage which is the main reason we purchased. Tough to get this 2022 and suppose 2023 will be even harder. Would like to see a little more range than 26 miles when on EV though.
It's worth noting that KIA also changed the shape of the roof rails making them incompatible with the 2022 accesories. If installing roof crossbars is an important thing for you, there are currently (July 2022) no fittings available for the 2023 model.
I found this video very informative. Just wondering about the fuel efficiency given that fact that you have 18 inch rims on both models. Kia’s brochure indicated 18.8 km/l, however your video segment showed 21.2. Can you confirm this for me please?
Getting over 20km/L is not all that difficult with Niro. Not sure about the official # there, but 18.8 is really easy to get and I think I'd get right under 30km mark if I really try. Niro is a beast when it comes to mpg.
It's really marginal, I can tell you that. The exact differences would be very hard to find since that isn't much of the selling point on the new Niro.
Bought it and im very please. But can't find compatible roof rack crossbars yet. Mine is the 2023 EX model. I being in forums and nothing. Many owners are in the same boat like me waiting.
It would have been helpful if you had indicated at the beginning that you were reviewing the hybrid model. I thought, perhaps, you were reviewing the 2023 PHEV. Very eager to see your review of the plug-in. How is visibility looking over your shoulder with the aero blades? Very limited? Is there blind spot monitoring or just alert - and is it a camera or camera and sensors?
No visibility issue with the blade whatsoever. It just feels like a regular car, nothing else. It comes with the sensor + camera. There is no PHEV Niro yet, I'll get my hands on it asap!
Hi, surprised you didn't point out the side-rear vents, that run under the black, painted swash, above rear wheels. It's very controversial, and also functional, (probably a aero / mileage benefit. I'm assuming they both have the dual clutch transmission? Thxs for the info, love both cars, (seen a few Ioniq 5's and one EV6, but these are still more practical for me.
Nice review. We decided to purchase the 2022 e Niro because of the smaller size. Not at all happy with the car because of the insane back up warning. Is this some kind of South Korean joke on US buyers?
The manufacturer probably have many reasons for the alert level, most probably have to do with safety issues. Louder = Less ppl hurt. Let alone Korea, there are many narrow roads and streets full of ppl, pedestrians walking by. I know it's annoying, I mean I can hear my neighbors parking their cars late in the night. At least it lasts for a few seconds only. You're not alone!
Got excited thought it was the Niro EV then realised it was the Hybrid. But didn't know was double glazed glass on the new 2023 model assume it's across all of them HEV, PHEV, & EV. Interesting Norway has already had a press drive event for the new Niro EV before Korea the home country of Kia. I prefer the new Niro EV interior over the old one as it's a lighter cleaner and simpler design more modern I would say to be honest. Looking forward to it launching in Australia later this year. Biggest worry I have is supply chain, hope they have better supply chain for the Niro than the EV6 as AU only got a few hundred units of the EV6 with no more until 2025.
Shortage is everywhere, but those numbers seem brutal for AU! I'm looking forward to Niro EV as well, but HEV has always been more than satisfactory, so the room for EV seems very tight especially with those E-GMP EVs from Kia alone, EV6 and others to come.
HEV (non-plug hybrid) only makes sense if you drive a lot in the city - many city miles and 70/30 ratio city/highway. This car probably will be 5,5 city and 6.2 highway (maybe even more if you go fast) so if you do the oposit 70 highway and 30 city this HEV does not make sense. If you do a lot of highway miles then diesel is still by far the best economy car price + diesel price, even petrol is still better overall economy over 200k km car price + petrol price. I am buing a new car now and did a very detailed excel sheet for estimating petrol, diesel, mhev, hev, phev and electric.
Good points. It is true the mpg is one of the best things about Niro, but there are other things too that make Niro stand out fron the crowd, such as 220v outlet and such given the price range.
