The 2023 Kia Sportage is all new and now available with 3 different power-plants including 2 hybrid versions. Today were taking a look at the new 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV Plug-In Hybrid. With today's insane gas prices, you'll love the fact that the new PHEV has an extended EV range of over 50kms or 32 miles.
The New Sportage has many convenience features like one touch folding rear seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, power smart tailgate, integrated coat hanger and large sliding panoramic roof.
One of the best thing about driving a PHEV is in many areas, these vehicles qualify for government EV rebates and incentives as well as being able to drive them in HOV/Carpool Lanes with a single occupant. In Canada this vehicle qualifies for at least $5000 EV incentive. United States US incentives are also available, please check with your state EV rebates.

Greetings from Long Island, New York! Great Reviews as always, I am thoroughly enjoying my Sorento PHEV SX Prestige which I was lucky to grab one when it first became available last October. In hindsight it was a great decision as I was able to get a good trade in value for my Telluride SX Prestige, and I got back $6600 US before our government stopped the tax credits for foreign made green cars this past August. Lucky you guys in Canada as you can still enjoy tax credits if you can find these highly sought after vehicles. My average MPG after 12,00 miles is 70 MPG, I am super happy!

As a Niro PHEV owner I had to learn to change my heating habits, using the seat and steering wheel for heating if I'm driving alone. I learned that to try to leave the HVAC off didn't work as everything fogs up as the intakes close for efficiency. If you expect the cabin to maintain 21 when it's cool outside of course the ice is going to start. Heat pumps are ok but they have a temp limit when they stop working effectively. Eg the RaAV4 prime heat pump won't work below -6c. So the heat pump is only really an effective option in spring and fall. I guess pure EVs run cold weather heat pumps that operate to -25c but then a heat pump will work in a 30c range so the cabin will only heat to +5c?. There's not tons of info out there for cars but I know my home heat pump stops working at-3 and the secondary heating kicks in. For us in the valley it's not a bad option but the heat pump isn't the best option for the seat of Canada IMO. The new Niro has a ceramic resistive heater which should work in colder temps in EV only mode.

Great point. The details of different car heat pumps are often not mentioned. Another outdoor parking winter trick: park on the sunny side of the street. On a sunny day, the greenhouse effect can bring the inside of a car to +15ºC and higher when it's -10ºC outside. Clears any frost on the glass too. A sunroof will help with that. For those who can, parking indoors in winter is a big plus, makes all this easier.

I think the engine kicks in at 9 degrees to help with cabin heating... probably not acting as a generator. My Volt does the same thing but at -1 degrees or -5 degrees depending on what you set it for in the vehicle settings. You should check the settings in the vehicle to see if this is adjustable. I think this is good because cabin heating can consume a large portion of the battery depending on how toasty you want the cabin. So using the waste heat from the engine to warm the cabin is a tradeoff... but a good one since it really doesn't use much gas to do it...

Got an EX HEV a couple months ago, after a 3 month wait. I'd definitely take the EX PHEV for the extra couple thousand dollars (after the $5000 federal rebate). You not only get the plug in capability, but also the cooled seats, power tailgate, and pano roof compared to the EX HEV. Now as to whether you can actually get one, and when, I don't know.

I love Kia and I am currently driving a Sorento PHEV in the US, but the newest Outlander PHEV may be "better" judging from the fact that it has a heat pump and the top trim has a built in massage seat. Standard 7 seaters may also be a bonus for some families.

One disappointing thing I’ve noticed about the new Outlander PHEV that people aren’t really taking about is that once the ev battery is depleted, it only gets 26 or 27 mpg from the hybrid engine. Personally, that is a deal breaker for me.

I ordered an outlander phev but bought a Sportage that popped up, I'll get it next month. Heat pump thing is a negative for sure... I don't agree with you. First. Do you know the heat pump price? Compare with (engine heat - heat pump) mpg difference vs heat pump price. Second. if you don't use the engine during winter time, your engine has a big problem(rust and oiling). The engine must be used regularly. Third. Do you know the heat pump longevity? It is additional cost.
@EverydayReviews2022
@EverydayReviews2022 Год назад
I’ve had heat pumps in houses and many other people I know as well for years and years so they are very reliable. Having the engine not running is no different than if your car is parked. When the gas engine starts up on the PHEVs like the RAV4 Prime after their EV range is depleted, the engine warms up just like any other engine Heat pumps will work down to fairly cold temps but if you are somewhere really cold then the vehicle will rely on the gas engine. It’ll use whatever is the most efficient at the time.

Good review, thanks. As an owner of a 2022 Hyundai Tucson HEV I can advise that Hyundai/Kia have made a big mistake by not including a heat pump on their HEV and PHEV vehicles. I live in London, ON (average winter temperatures of -3 to -10 C.) and last winter my Tucson HEV's engine spent A LOT OF TIME running to keep the cabin warm. As well, I found that the level of heat is never strong enough and the frequent engine ON time during winter works to wreck your fuel economy. 🤨This aspect of operation bugs the cr@p out of me, and because of this issue I would never again consider (or recommend) buying a Hyundai or Kia HEV or PHEV. My next vehicle will be a BEV that's equipped with a well-engineered heat pump system, which of course provides virtually instant heat in winter. - Richard

@@robertduklus6555- The AC in my '22 Tucson HEV has been pretty great and it doesn't seem to turn on the engine very much/often. The AC compressor in Hyundai-Kia HEVs and PHEVs is electrically driven and gas mileage and/or time spent in EV mode doesn't seem to be affected much by the use of AC. The "summertime" fuel economy in my Tucson HEV is way better than the "wintertime" fuel economy largely due to the heater operation in winter. As an aside, the ventilated front seats in my Tucson Ultimate HEV work extremely well - they provide a real cooling effect on hot summer days. Final note: Be aware that frequent very short distance (

@@richardb9591 Thanks again Richard. BEV problem for me is that we are one vehicle household. We live about 180 km outside of downtown Toronto and on avg we need to go there 2-3 times a month. So range would be an issue especially in the winter. Second, I need to tow 2000 Lb boat so range issue may arise again plus need for awd plus towing capacity. I think the PHEV would cover my needs, including Sportage . Looked at Outlander but the towing is limited to 1500Lb.
