For the latest Kia Sportage pricing and information:
www.kbb.com/kia/sportage/
The Sportage is Kia’s longest lasting nameplate. This newest version comes with three powertrain options. The gas engine option receives a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated inline 4 (graphics: 187 hp). Estimated EPA numbers are solid even for this option (FWD: 25 city/32 hwy AWD: 23 city/28 hwy). There are two hybrid options available on the Sportage, a standard hybrid that gets (graphic: 227 hp combined; EPA: FWD - 42 city/44 hwy AWD: 38 city/38 hwy) an 44kW permanent magnetic motor and more than 500 miles of range per tank of gas. And you can get a plug-in hybrid that comes with a 66.9-kw motor and a 13.8-kw hour battery and can run up to 32 miles on pure electric range.
Okay, that’s out of the way, now let’s talk more about the exterior of the Sportage. First thing you might notice, because it’s very noticeable is that the Sportage is now dramatically larger, 7.1-inches longer to be exact with a 3.4-inch longer wheelbase. We’ll get to why that’s significant in a bit.
So, does that put the Sportage into a different segment? I say, yes. The subcompact space is now being occupied by the Soul and the Seltos. That puts the all-new Niro and slightly larger Sportage in a compact spot with the Sorrento in a smaller mid-size space and the Telluride in the larger midsize slot.
If you’re cross-shopping, the Sportage is now going to line up with the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue, Volkswagen Tiguan, Subaru Forester and Ford Escape. Well, that is some stiff competition.
Magically, there is a ton more space in the second row now. Legroom, headroom, galore. This is a truly comfortable place to sit. And there is more cargo space for your stuff. (69.3 cu-ft/36.6 cu-ft)
When you get into the driver’s seat you’re going to be very pleasantly surprised at how much work Kia’s done with the interior of the Sportage.
The cockpit is very driver oriented. The big news is the big screens. Nearly 25 inches stretch from the driver’s side A-pilar to the middle of the car.
That’s a 12.3-inch digital gauge screen and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. (Standard on EX trim and above) It’s nicely integrated, so nothing looks like an iPad slapped on your dash. It’s well thought out and looks great. And most importantly, the interface is intuitive as are all Kia products.
The seats are comfortable; you’ll get cloth only on the base LX and SynTex artificial leather on everything above, the stitching makes it look great, again, only on the base LX model is the stitching molded and not actual stitching, and there’s padding for elbows on surfaces.
Safety equipment takes a front seat in the Sportage with Kia making some pretty advanced features standard including lane-following assist, lane-keeping assist, forward collision avoidance, and a driver attention warning.
More big news from the Sportage comes in some additional trim levels in the X-Line and X-Pro. Yes, Kia is embracing the rugged trend in crossovers and I’m not opposed.
The X-Line is more of an appearance package, which is fine, but it doesn’t really do anything by way of more capability. You will get an AWD system that does a good job of sending traction to where you need it most, so that’s something. But you will get trim specific front and rear bumpers, gloss black side mirrors, roof rack and window surrounds as well as 19-inch wheels. That wheel size alone should tell you it’s not super off-road capable.
The X-Pro goes a few steps further with 17-inch off-road wheels, BFGoodrich all-terrain tires that give you some great traction.
Helping with that capability are extra drive modes with a snow mode that helps prevent slippage maximizing traction and downhill braking.
The Sportage is based on the new Sorento platform, which is a stiffer structure making the Sportage feel more stable even given it’s increased length. It turns with confidence, even in the hybrid when you’re giving it an extra punch with that increase horsepower. A huge improvement in the driving dynamics.
The base LX starts at just under $26,000 and the AWD X-Pro Prestige model, which is the top of the line tops out at just under $37,000. Those prices don’t include Kia’s $1255 destination fee. In between those two extremes you can get the EX, SX, SX-Prestige and X-Line as well as the X-Pro and X-Pro Prestige. That’s a pretty wide array of options for an $11,000 spread in price.
That the Sportage is bigger, drives better, can be more off-road capable, has better fuel economy, more standard features, and looks way better than its predecessor. Welcome to the big kids table, Sportage.

Great review! I took my '13 Optima in to my local dealer for an oil change earlier this summer when I saw my first '23 Sportage. I didn't know I needed a new vehicle but it was love at first sight. I spent the rest of the summer researching the new Sportage and looking into dealers I wanted to work with. Finally in mid August I found the SXP (gas) that I wanted in the exact color with the exact options. I couldn't be happier. The dealer was wonderful, my trade in value was more than I expected (even with research), my insurance went down because of all the safety features and I have been enjoying my Sportage ever since. Ps. I love the new bigger size, I never would have considered the Sportage with it's previous size.

I just purchased a 2023 Kia Sportage SX-Prestige FWD yesterday. Where I live, there are usually no Sportages available for immediate delivery. I’ve been searching for Hybrids or something with good gas mileage for a couple of months. I needed something that could fit my Rollator walker. I had been renting a car for a couple of months, while trying to find something that met my needs. I was very fortunate to find one available on the lot. Long story short, someone had preordered this vehicle, waited for 2.5 months, and had just decided that they wanted a third row. The dealer, only 5.5 miles from my home, called me to say they had this, and I purchased it. I couldn’t be happier!!! I have no complaints. It rides so smoothly and has so many great features. I don’t mind using a cable for Apple CarPlay, and do not mind the the switchable climate control and audio toggle. And the rear storage compartment is so huge, it easily fits my Rollator walker with plenty of space to put much more in that space. Funny that your KBB review popped up today. I liked it so much, I subscribed to your channel , after watching the quick review. Thank you!!!

Been waiting for this review since the first drive! 😊But we just got our Sportage SX Prestige last week and it's been great so far. Since it wasn't the exact trim and color we were looking for though, we somehow got a pretty good deal with the dealer chopping off a chunk of the markup to "just" $2000 (still too much of course but definitely better than the $7000 for other Kia dealerships in our area) and a good deal on the maintenance package. That matte gray though looks amazing. If it were available on the gas model, we probably would've waited for it or gone looking around.

see a Kia dealer here in madison pulled the same stunt on me talking about 6 grand markup or "Market Ajustment" as they claim.. then slashed it only to 2k.. i now see it is a super deceptive sales tactic! and it is really making me second guess getting a kia!!!!!
@asatar2
@asatar2 Год назад
Here in NJ Mazda is not adding any markups. Most dealers here and in PA sell the CX-5 and other Mazda models at MSRP. I got like $500 discount! I personally wouldn't go with a Korean manufacturer and pay a markup! Japanese cars still have an edge when it comes to reliability and durability and body structure even though Kia and Hyundai are good and smooth when brand new. Again its just my personal opinion, I went with the CX-5 Premium Plus over the Sportage and went with the MAZDA CX-9 over the Palisades and Telluride last year since they were both overpriced with $2-4K markup and long waiting time while the CX-9 was available and with a great offer (sick deal). I know the Palisades and Telluride have bigger trunk and little more space, but that's about it.

jeff g 2 hours ago I have the 2023 Sportage SX Prestige AWD Hybrid (quite the mouthful) since late May and I simply love the car. I had a Kia Cadenza before this and I think Kia's are great no matter what make and model you have. This is the perfect size and everything about this model is outstanding. The piano black console can pick up fingerprints remarkably easy but a microfiber cloth can remove it just as easily too. Other than that - the Hybrid is outstanding in every way. If you are fortunate to get your hands on this car - and specifically this model - it will not, can not, disappoint! And to answer your question more directly - no I think SUV's are seemingly getting lower to the ground so you don't have that "towering over sedans" feeling anymore. There are some SUV's that just look like minivans with different back seat doors. And the Sportage new 7" longer is outstanding. Enough about me....how are you?

I’ve had the same trim (in blue) since June and I love it. I’m even starting to get the mileage Kia touted (38 mpg). I agree with her second gripe. What the hell is up with no wireless CarPlay? I have had no issue with her first gripe though.
@jeffg5174
@jeffg5174 Год назад
@@thefingerofgod69 I keep forgetting about that darn wireless Carplay. I agree, totally ridiculous that the top-tier models don't have that capability. I also find the videos that discuss how this suv doesn't have enough pep in their step to be completely incorrect. The SX Prestige Hybrid has all the acceleration I need at exactly the time I need it. I usually get bored with cars after a few years, but I really cannot imagine that happening with this Sportage.
@thefingerofgod69
@thefingerofgod69 Год назад
@@jeffg5174 I have to pretty much agree with your take on power. It is like moma bear, just right. At least when you are already moving. Off the line it could be better but it is just fine for me. The other minor gripe I forgot to mention is that it sometimes feels a bit to bouncy for my taste. But that’s a trade off. The suspension is geared for comfort and a serene ride and I think it really delivers on those fronts. I also think that my take on the suspension is affected by my last car which had a rock hard suspension so there’s that….. But again, this vehicle has been an absolute wonder for me.

potential companies to do business with, I would seriously debate doing business with Kia finance or any of their related companies. The various departments went out of their way, repeat out of their way to cause such inconvenience for me that it's nearly unspeakable. At the end of my lease I was provided options to purchase or return a vehicle but also had the option to exsend the lease up to 6 months while choosing to make a decision on a new purchase or lease. I simply wasn't ready yet. I was told I had the option to continue leasing my current vehicle for another 6 months with full coverage. The company accepted 2 months of advanced payments so I was covered at least until June 20th. I did this all Believing that I had my least extension however I've been receiving notices from a different apartment saying I was in default and needed to return the car immediately. After sorting through all the disputed information it turns out that regardless of how many people at the head of various departments told me that I was allowed to continue the least, the bylaws of the company do not allow the least to continue under the name of a deceased person. At the time of my lease it was more advantageous to have my father Under his credit than mine. My credit is great now. However because the lessor is no longer living, there is no transfer option there is purchase or return. They let me believe I was on a month to month I paid 2 months ahead I paid a full year's registration and repairs to the car , I might not have committed to doing all those things if the intention would have been to return the vehicle for a new one... I am now left with very little options That will see me right side up with a vehicle, other than buy the car. I'm in a position now where I must buy the vehicle, With the expenses already put in it's counter productive not too. But you can feel that I don't Really want to give that corporation any money. I'm almost willing to cut my nose off to spite my face just to not give them another penny however they will back end me to death with return charges so again I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. I got screwed royally and burned in the process to be dragged through the mud to have to re punish all of my father's documents to the deceased department just to be told That what I was originally told isn't true. I have no recourse.... So, KIA... what's next? My intent might be to buy the car now, but when I get around to paying for it is a whole different story.....

The fact that you cannot get wireless Apple Carplay or Android auto on the higher trim with the larger screen is a HUGE swing & a miss for what is otherwise a really nice looking car. It wouldn't be that much of an issue if they also didn't force you to go to that higher trim to get certain features that competitors at least offer on their mid trim level.

@@kbb Hi! Just my personal opinion is that wired Apple CarPlay is better sound/audio/music is higher quality when plugged in. Also if you never set up Bluetooth at all it’s actually nice to just unplug your phone and have no connection to your car at all. And if you have a popsocket wallet on your phone like I do, the wired charging works out better too.

It is a clean looking auto but I just don't understand why they made it 7 inches longer which adds more weight yet they didn't add the Turbo Charger . Nearly 10 seconds now from 0 to 60 mph . I think this will affect the demand for this price point . And why does KIA advertise a mid locking differential when it in fact really doesn't have one ?

I'm not a fan of the busy styling. But once I sat in one at a dealer yesterday, I could look past that. I have long legs and my whole upper legs lay flat on the rear seat cushion!!! Not with my knees up off the seat like on most other cars and SUVs where the rear seat cushions are too low! The front passenger seat was 8-way in the model I sat in and it had a huge amount of range in different directions, whereas some manufacturers don't even give you the option of an 8-way passenger seat or if they do... it feels more like a 6-way. Driver seat very comfortable. HUUUUUUUGE cargo area!!! I would be worried about the huge LCD dash... will it malfunction? How much will it cost to replace after warranty??? And that rear bumper fake plastic metal trim looks cheap and fragile... don't get bumped.

KBB, one thing I need to ask on all these reviews, can I turn it off? Can I turn off all the suicide aides? The head on keep assist that veers you through a pot hole into a head on, or the radar cruise that slams on the break when you're 9 cars away, or the automatic tail gate for times when you want to stand in a down pour for what feels like an eternity to open the tailgate.. can all this crap be disabled?
@kbb
@kbb Год назад
For the most part, yes, you can turn off these systems and alerts. On some vehicles you can also set the sensitivity levels of them as well. It is all different from one manufacturer to another, however. Great question.

@@kbb thank you for replying.. I have been to Honda, vw, and Toyota and it seems at least based on the dealership information, I can't disable most of these features. Which is a bummer, since I don't want a stripped car, but I also need good visibility, and the engagement of being in control. Any recommendations for a car with 07 loaded features? Good visibility, leather, heated and cooled seat, sunroof, quiet smooth ride, but without all the filler that is just not needed? Something under 50k?
