Good review Pete and I do understand the reasoning behind PHEVs. They do make only limited sense to me though. If you do most of your trips on battery (school, supermarket runs etc.) then you’re carting about a heavy engine, gearbox and tank of fuel when you don’t need to. That’s a heavy parachute! If you do loads of miles, then the small battery probably won’t add a huge amount of range and once again is a heavy thing to cart about, when a good efficient diesel probably does the job better. There’s probably a specific mix of driving where it makes more sense to go PHEV over ICE/BEV, but they aren’t for me. Looks nice enough though and I love Kia as a brand these days. They make some great cars now.
When you do most trips on school, supermarket runs etc with a BEV then you're carting about a (unnecessary) heavy battery. Same thing! IMO, PHEV makes a lot of sense for a great deal of circumstances.
@@718YellowSubmarine yes but that’s something you are actually using. To be fair the weight of a Tesla model 3 is around the same as the weight of an equivalent BMW 3 series. If you have a car with an engine and then add batteries (albeit a smaller battery than in a BEV), you are adding in weight over that of a normal engine version of the car. If you do the right mix of driving, they can make sense, but if you rarely use the engine or are doing lots of miles then I’d say that they aren’t.
@@CASFAN Been Driving a Holden Volt (Aussie and NZ baged Chevy) for last 5 years it makes perfect sense because you can do the vast majority of your journeys Electric only but still have the ability to do longer trips at weekends if you need to and you get to do all that without paying stratospheric BEV prices. If you can do that trip to work and back electric only and plug in every day you'll be laughing. I am - averaged 0.3 litres per100km while i've owned it and car itself has a lifetime consumption of 1.1 litres per 100km over a total of 78,000km. Just have to choose the right tool for the job.
@@SuperMadpom true, I currently have an ICE car and have a BEV on order. Will probably keep both for now and use whichever meets my needs the best. I never really do more than the range of the BEV though, so the ICE will just get the odd blast when I fancy playing with a nice manual I guess. 😊
@@CASFAN Actually, you are not using the big heavy battery of a BEV if you mostly do short commutes or so. If you can plug in often enough, a PHEV can make more sense than a BEV for many user profiles. The true issue of the PHEV is that many users can't be bothered to plug it in. But that's another discussion.
Great review. I haven’t tried the PHEV version but I picked up an ex-demo 1.5 petrol XCeed ‘3’ a couple of weeks’ ago and I think it’s a great car. Mine is a 2022 MY and apart from the wheel design it looks just like this 2023 model. I agree that the ride quality is one of its standout features. My weekend car is a F56 MINI Cooper S sport with JCW pack, so that rides very firmly, so when I just want a nice comfortable drive, the XCeed is perfect. Another great feature is the infotainment system. The Kia Connected app is very easy to setup and the inbuilt sat nav works really well - apparently Kia have partnered with Vodafone and their IoT connected car system to constantly keep it updated with traffic info, weather and POIs etc. It’s all free for 7 years (data included). This is my first Kia and I reckon the value for money is really good considering the equipment, quality & warranty.
@@FéargalO I’m averaging 42 mpg overall, but that includes quite a few short journeys. On a mixed run of 50/60 mph A roads and a bit of dual carriageway at 70 mph it can get 50 mpg which I reckon is pretty good for a petrol car.
Very late seeing this one,but worth the wait.Great review as always. One question that I thought of and wonder why it didn't occur to me before. On a phev when you run in hybrid mode does your fuel economy suffer because the ice is always starting from cold and is not up to normal running temp?
I struggle with PHEV I hope you will test the new hybrid civic as that’s similar price and is being very well received by other reviewer, but your reviews are the best!
Looks like a good car with a decent ride which for me is an important consideration on the awful British roads. Those speed humps in Chinnor are a new feature since I lived near there.
I'm really liking Kia design and technology now. The cars look good and are designed well. The proceed shooting brake is a cracking looking car and if it wasn't badged as a Kia it could have been designed by our German friends. Definitely taking the market by storm and keeping up there with thr big names 👌👍
I ordered my '3' PHEV on-line, hard to get hold off, not seen it yet, not driven it yet, should be delivered in a couple of weeks. I am part exchanging with my KIA Niro Self Charging Hybrid. I need a smaller car. The Xceed should be fine as I do a low mileage and will plug in during the cheaper electricity over night. I got a good part EX for the Niro, KIA vehicles do hold their value. Looking forward for the new one, enjoyed your movie, well done.
Good review - daughter has an early Mini Countryman PHEV, so a very limited EV only range, but works for her given her mileage profile is very short local trips, or really long trips - and I don’t think she has the patience for BEV in-journey charging! Anyway, comfortably over 200hp combined output and a solid chassis, so can feel pretty sporty when pushed.
Good honest review. The boot under floor storage very good. Much smaller in rear than my Cupra Born. PHEV cars still need to use the petrol engine occasionally to ensure it runs smoothly and not cause issues. Did you say 1.6 litre gasoline engine ???
Would like Kia to do a full hybrid option Xceed. Have had one, petrol 1.5, for nearly 3 years and really enjoyed it but cant be doing with plug in yet.
Not sure why some others have a downer on crossovers, don't think any owners are pretending they have a Range Rover and a slightly higher car is easy to get in and out of and if you have children they are perfect to easily get them in and out of kiddy seats. Its also nice to be above the lorry wheel spray in the wet. BTW I buy Gas Oil for tractors but Gasoline is petrol right? Just checking 😉
Good evening petrol ped read hope you are doing well I have to say I thoroughly enjoy video thank you very much just wondering if you could do a video on the Volkswagen tiguan please Tristan
i did order the kia ceed 1.5 turbo engine in feb 2022 but come august i called my dealer and got told it hadnt got a build date or even been built. nice cars but i cancelled that order and went for a skoda kamiq instead which is due to be built week 44 which is end of october 22 so shouldnt be too long hopefully. great review as always petrol ped well done oh and they are really nice cars.
I love Kia, big fan of my 2022 Ceed SW. But I don't for the life of me get who this car is for. Why would you a premium for a smaller, less practical Ceed that is slightly higher of the road?
Like you I like to drive the top trim and loving Kia. My last car was the 4 Tech Kia C’eed with the large pan-roof and Currently have the Xceed 1st edition. I love my cars to have the panoramic sunroof. Would love for the to have a bit more EV range, but what can we do. Does the GTS line have the panoramic sunroof, I mean the proper pan roof, not what the xceeds have now days?
Love to see your review on a new honda civic ehev advance model. For me its either a new honda civic or just go fully electric and get an MG. Around £30000
@@PetrolPed brilliant. Your reviews are the best around. Just struggling on what to buy at the moment. Not sure if i should go fully electric. You never know what the government are going to do next as regards petrol prices and energy prices.
Unfortunately, at least at the moment, 3 PHEV is all you can get trim wise, GT Line S is only available with the 1.5 petrol engine and manual box (info from Kia website) Comment I've seen elsewhere suggests even Kia is having issues with component supply hence restricted range at this time.
The majority of new cars in my neighbourhood are either BEVs or plug in hybrids, although this is probably because all the properties here have driveways that enables home charging.
Well….a very nice car…it does almost everything nicely….a great car for the garden centre, going to the Doctors and visiting Mary on a Sunday afternoon. This is all the car you want….but that last word..”want”….would you ever WANT one? Not sure…..like trousers from Primark…perfect at their job but we are still in Primark…..🤔😬. On to the next Peter!…😀😀😀😀😎😎😎😎
Peter i don't like the light green ,but i like the black ,but are there any other colures for the car ,i do like the car very much , i do like ceed 3 . Take care Peter
It's not obnoxious, a little bland but not obnoxious. Car styling is getting a bit bland for "every day" cars? Undoubtably it will drive well and be good to live with, it's a Kia and they've grown the brand/reputation beyond recognition. Just fades into the background for me.
Hi my comment below was before I had the car, i have now got the car its great, but I am wading through the 'large' car manual to work out where or how it tells me how much charging I have got. KIA did not provide the 'trickle' charger connection for me to use so I do not know whether the car will show me, The manual says Charging Status, but there are many variations of the Xceed mine might not include this. Any help or advice will be good. Regards John Turner
Just beautiful and awesome car, just a bit pricey, unless you can buy it straight up with cash.. Financial leasing with 8-11% interest rates are horrible
Don't think I've ever been in a Kia or a Hyundai, they seem a bit like white-goods. I've fitted a few Hyundai marine diesels in boats, they're ok for the money but that's about it.
Why on earth would anyone buy a car with two separate drivetrains, that consumes gasoline and has a tailpipe, and is SLOW and boring, when there are so many amazing, maintenance-free, fun to drive, BEVs? Pure insanity.
Ooh.. it's green... All the problem car's I've had have been green... LOL!!! I'm still not entirely sold on plug in hybrids yet, although the Octavia vRS one could tempt me in the future..?? Wait and see.
