2023 KTM 300XC Electric Power Valve | How Does It Work | Highland Cycles 

UPDATE! The code was not the power valve. It was because we hit the start button while the tank was off.

I'm transferring the power valve to a new cylinder on my 2023 ktm 300 sx (it had a crack from overheating). This was super interesting to see how it actually worked. Sick! Thank you!

Hey Morgan.. after watching your video and how the geared mechanism works I might suggest that the power valve is two stage the first part opens the guillotine valve and then the second stage opens the sub ports which would be another reason for the nice progressive power delivery..

I have the 23' 125sx and also investigated the PV mechanism. If you pull off the servo to do a top end and leave it connected with the snap connector, you will not need to do anything, just simply re-install the servo and connect it back inside the pv cover. Then for a safe measure do the pv dongle reset, the dealer can also do do this from the KTM XC_2 tool, but that process they actually don't touch the throttle, they plug it in and run a reset. If you unplug the snap connector for any reason at all, you will throw the Fi light and it will need to be recalibrated with the dongle, but the dealer will need to clear the code. My pv looks the same but different, large guillotine flapper and the two subs. It's interesting that on mine the sub ports open first, then at the end, the large flapper. In previous KTM's and most other bikes like the YZ250, the subs opened LAST or all at once like on the previous 125sx with those long barrels. I would love to talk to you about these bikes, my RU-vid channel has a video series/breakdown of things to look at and document. Hey Morgan, I took mine in on December 10 for the reflash due to hitting the start button while it was running. The guys at my dealership had no idea about any of this. I explained what was going on thanks to your videos and after the update, the bike ran fantastic even better than before.

I’m going to guess that part of why this motor runs so good and the power feels so good is due to the control they have with the electric power valve. I don’t love that it’s another thing to go wrong but it’s pretty cool!

Morgan, thanks for the Christmas present of more XC exploration. When you go to the dealer and they plug it in for flashing it should show the map needed for installation. James Dean went in for the reflash and the P104 code solved the stuff you were talking about on his TX300, rich on the bottom, flashing FI, erratic idle. This was about 2 weeks ago. I took the bike in for reflash and it runs great now. The dealer said this will be a mandatory reflash for all bikes coming in for service. He didn't even know about it til I was at the counter with the bike. Merry Christmas, freezing rain here for a couple days (Oregon).

Bro, my 23 250xc blew before 10 hours! 120psi. Can't believe the parts prices for these things. Here trying to get visuals on the repair im going to do myself, doesn't look to difficult.

If you think that's cool check out any skidoo etec motors from 2013-2023. That's what a real 2 smoker motor looks like.

Thinking out loud here, but I wonder if the rotation in the shaft before it engages the teeth on the "power valve thingie" opens the sub ports first, then the main flapper opens as the big toothed thingie rotates. These are highly technical terms of course, took years of experience to learn them 😄

Crazy how far technology has even brought the newer bikes and shit its just nuts after 50yrs of the same technology coming to a point everything we've learnt turning wrenches all these years is just gonna be completely useless kinda scary to think about especially after seeing what it's done to the automobile where the days of a tune up or even a oil change in ur own garage has almost became impossible

Not sure if this is a concern after you removed the cover, but the 23’ TX 300 maintenance manual on page 183, bottom of the page reads, “info. If the actuator of the exhaust control has been removed, the end positions of the exhaust control must be reprogrammed”. Nothing in the manual about the dongle doing the reprogramming that I found. This is what I found for the exhaust control setting, Page 201 Section 17.4.10 Installing the exhaust control. Do you think this has to be done I you pull that cover/actuator every time?

Not related to the content...but does the tusk radiator fan have a temp display on it? I don't see one. My KTM one doesn't on my 21 but the Tusk used to I believe.

So as a 2017 xcw 250 carb ( with JD jetting) that runs well.. are you sold on KTM modern FI ?? Think it’s worth to make the FI leap ?

I wonder if just disconnected the battery would reset the light? Also unplugging things and removing things with no power on should not set off a code.

So how would you keep this area clean? Maybe some brake cleaner lol!
