I own a Lexus 500h. Not planning on drag racing anyone, because I’m not a child. It’s plenty quick and enjoyable in the real world. It’s a Great car, exceptionally built.
I bought the Volvo xc60 recharge. I don't drag race anyone either. But I look better and get better fuel economy and I'm faster. But I'm glad you enjoy your toyota.
What is the point drag racing a 366hp car with a 455hp car when the weight of the cars is not that different ? The only interesting thing to now is if the volvo still wins with the empty battery.
Even with the battery "drained", you never lose the 455 hp. First, there is always a battery reserve with Volvo, and the motor has a generator that can also charge the batteries too so the electric motor always has power.
@@ftcryan ....all plug-in cars lose power when they have the battery "empty". Especially when you floor it for a long period of time (racing). The generators are powered by the internal combustion engine which has only 315hp. If you know some physics then it should be clear for you that it's impossible to generate 455hp with a 315hp source. And you should know that the car does NOT charge the battery when you floor it.
@Eugen E I never claimed you can generate 455 hp out of a 315 hp motor. What I'm trying to explain is when the system shows a "zero" range or empty battery, you haven't lost the 455 hp as the system still has 4 kWh of energy in reserve to access and power the electric motor. The engine will start to charge the batteries when showing a zero range too. In theory, could you completely drain the system by continually flooring it and not letting up and eating into that reserve, yeah, and at that point, you are running solely off the ice engine. A couple 1/4 races won't eat up that whole reserve though
I already knew the Volvo was going to win, it has way more power and is a few hundred pounds lighter, I didn't think the Lexus would keep up quite as well as it did. If i had to pick between these 2, I would still go Lexus, 366hp is more than enough for a comfortable daily driver, and I also like how it looks better
The performance in the Lexus is embarrassing at best. Not only can’t it outperform a Volvo but it can’t even outperform mainstream Toyotas that are this fast: v6 Camry and rav4 prime
@@naveenthemachine Definitely not embrrassing! No one is getting these vehicles to drag race. Stop being a horsepower junkie and trying to race and speed all over town. This is why there are so many accidents from people like you seeking power but don't know how to use it properly.
@@ToxicCookie The XC90 is not in the same class, the XC60 is hence the match up. It's the closest in class mid size SUV match up between these two companies.
I drove the RX500H, sadly, it was was pretty disappointing. I actually have a deposit and factory order for an XC60 Recharge. Also, unlike the Lexus you get 37 miles of all electric driving range.
XC60 no longer has a supercharger. The 455 hp models are turbo only, but they have a stronger electric motor, larger battery pack and almost double EV range compared to their earlier T8 siblings that have superchargers.
Not sure why you were messing with all the other random settings… especially having put the car in power but then changing the battery setting to “HOLD.” Hold stops using any battery power and *holds* the battery charge percentage to be used at a later date. Essentially you put the car in sport mode and then turned off battery performance… the car would have been even quicker.
I love the new wait you’re doing these videos now with 0 to 60 in a quarter mile and stopping them at the finish line to see the distance. Keep it up Sam!!
I kinda don't agree with this as I only found like 5 of them good looking and most of them has an huge grill and have this weird looking bar in the grill which I only found good looking in an Avanza and Veloz.
You didn’t even use the electric motor when you put the battery on hold. I have the same car Also no supercharger it uses a starter motor now They have run upper 12s
Actually, I am cross shopping these vehicles, so I thought it was a very valid comparison. Both are mid size luxury, performance oriented PHEVs that have a very similar price point. The fact that the Volvo offer that much power just means the others need to step up their game.
The supercharger has been dropped, the t8 has a turbo and the low rpm lag is eliminated by the crankshaft generator rated at 34kw power. B6 has a 48v electric compressor made by borg Warner. The diesels also have their high pressure fuel pumps and water pumps repositioned because of the mild hybrid system
@@jiaweichen9296 i film cars on RU-vid in Romania and i am very passionate about technical details and i make long videos where i explain the engines :)
I hope that on the Volvo you did not leave the battery setting on “Hold” during the race… that turns _OFF_ the electric motor and would have dropped ~100hp. It could explain why the Lexus kept up in the beginning. Why randomly press buttons in the drive mode settings before a race? If you don’t know what they do you should look it up!
@@SamCarLegion make stuff up? I own this very car and know what happens when you put it on hold. Also, why be rude to someone from your audience? You could have just said “oh yeah, we made sure Hold was off before running the race”…
Lexus RX 🔥 . The results for this race where already known ,the Lexus has 366 bhp while the Volvo has 455 bhp. Would still pick the Lexus over Volvo cars . Volvo cars are just something else , they make bmw and Mercedes seem reliable.
Would pick the Lexus over Volvo too, but against the Germans? Lexus' drivetrains in general are a bit lackluster in comparison. Reliability is only part of the puzzle but the choice is obvious if that is at the top of your list. Otherwise, the Germans seem like a class above in performance.
Considering most people buy these cars on leases, reliability will not come into play. Lexus offers good value for the money, but at that price range, you might as well lease one of the Germans.
@@drivescene6747 ikr. A RAV4 prime v6 Camry are as fast as the fastest RX and fastest nx. That’s insane And the Camry had the far superior powertrain to the RX
They do... 450 h+ It's a very nice cabin and 'ok' to drive. I tried one before I bought a T8. The T8 would destroy it in any performance test, has a 'better' boot / trunk IMO and the interior is equally as good , just Scandinavian different.
Good luck lol 😂 I have a 2020 Volvo xc40 and I love it! But the xc60 is a piece of shit since 2022+ especially with that google infotainment! Good luck with your Volvo! I’m loving my fully loaded 500h as well with my 2022 model Y performance
Sam I like your videos but why is everything so dramatic and takes so long to get going? I like it when you just tell us about the cars and start racing in my opinion.... quicker videos would be better
@@SamCarLegion Yet, you were fussing about your other videos being 10 minutes long? You had over a minute drone pan of the rear of the vehicles with no voice over, I mean nothing?? You've got the footage but the drone coverage is unengaging without some commentary to explain or at least describe what we're seeing. We're simply asking for more engagement and we only ask because you used to give it to us..
In 5 years check which one is more reliable and keeps better value. We all know that Lexus, the faster a car, the closer you are to a speeding ticket, and that's not counting the chances of an accident. I prefer quality over speed.
Boring talk , technology rules not boring old school Lexus or Toyota rules. Soon EV will comes in plenty in next few years and was wondering the EV laggards like Lexus and Toyota ,where will they be then .
Well, I mean the Lexus needs to have the traction all the way off to actually perform. Hold the traction button in for 4 seconds and then you will be in "Track" mode.
@@SamCarLegion I own the 500h fsport Personally, and Yeah it would have, make sure sport mode is on too, it will rapidly charge the battery to give it the most power to the rear 80%. Lexus/Toyota is known for doing this too with all of their vehicles. I have the Tundra 2023 as well, and if you do the same thing to that and then put the 4h mode on that too? ITS A MONSTER. I was beating my brothers Ford Raptor.
@@l-Arm.of.God-l i told him lexus is different than other companies Old IS350 is faster with PWR mode off New IS350 is faster in manual mode with sport s+ same with IS500&LC500&RCF&GSF&ISF
@@mez6256 With Track mode on, which is literally having to sometimes place it in "Park" then holding in the traction button till either a "ding" is heard or orange lights appear lol They "Mask" the true power.
I guess, that is not correct comparison, cause 1. RX is full hybrid, Volvo- is plug in. 2. The weight of both cars. Lexus is heavier 3. Correct class and sizes comparison, will should be between XC90 and RX. 4. HP & Torq, I think no any comments, cause it can't be matched.5. If you want to make a drag, you should launch a race with 2 pedals, for running gas engine before you starting.
@pilotofgixxr you are partially right😮. The B6 has the electric supercharger plus the turbo but on the recharge T8 the supercharger was dropped because they added a more powerful electric motor.
@@konhenry9713 Very few cars made today are as unreliable as Volvos, also most Volvo owners don't buy another one, and resale values are very low. However, Volvos used to be amazing in reliability in the 80s, but they were very slow back then (which is why they were reliable).
Given that in the second rolling race the Lexus (without supercharger and turbocharger) could come close to the Volvo is a proof of good Toyota engineering. Simpler, fewer things that can go wrong longer reliability so although the lexus looks kinda ugly, between the two if I were to own them long term then it would likely be the lexus.
The engine is just turbocharged btw The supercharger was dropped. Volvo is by far the superior car when it comes to engineering and true opulence. Lexus plays second to no one as a true player in the game. But Volvo has just come so far, I’d rather be in it, in any scenario.
Absolutely you can't compare a Lexus to a Volvo. The only thing that sells Lexus is there alleged reliability. Outside of that, they're not interesting! I still get a Toyota look about them! Nothing stands out in my opinion. Again it's just a matter of taste! Volvos are very unique and special cars! Bricks!!!
This comparison is wrong on a couple of levels. First of all the XC60 isn’t even a comparable size to the RX. The comparison should be between the XC90, which is a bit larger than the RX but the XC60 quite a bit smaller compared to the RX. Second, the Volvo is a plug in hybrid. The vehicles should both be mild hybrids, for comparison, which would equate to the XC90 B6 AWD. Here, the RX would be quicker. I also find it a bit amusing that Volvo overpowers a soccer mom SUV. Nobody buys a Volvo to race like this anyway.
I'll take a Volvo any day over a Lexus. Volvo's are very unique and special. And I'm sorry the look of this new RX is horrid! The previous design was better looking, in my opinion.
As much as I love Toyota/Lexus, they really disappointed us RX owners with the new 500H. Instead of dropping from a 3.3L 6 cylinder to a turbo charged 4 cylinder, they should have went with a super charged V6. Recently I test drove the 500, and I was extremely disappointed on horsepower and speed, including the launch. For the first time in decades, i'm actually considering switching to Acura, and from what I hear, I'm not the only disappointed RX owner considering switching over to something else. When I recently test drove the 500, it was a major disappointment compared to my high mileage 2008 400H. I'm not sure where they are coming up with these 0-60 and horsepower numbers, because my 2008 would smoke the 500 without breaking a sweat 🤣
LOL U PUT THE BATTERY ON HOLD XDDDDDDDDDDDDDD THAT VOLVO WOULD BE 2x FASTER IF YOU DIDN'T DO THAT, THERE WAS ONLY THE ICE USED IN THAT VIDEO. ALL CAPS FOR ATTENTION FFS
