Just unbelievable the amount of water! We were very fortunate here at home we never lost our only for a short time when they shut it down to do some line work down the road from us. Glad to see you guys are all doing well and that you guys didn’t have any major issues. Good video as always hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas!
I have seen the Androscoggin river flood many times over the past 50;years. One flood back in the 90’s took out Route1 in Brunswick and that was a nightmare for truckers. glad your fields will drain fairly quick.
Glad your crops are in the barn. Please be safe, Molly. If I were there with you, I’d cut you a wading staff so you had additional support when you were walking in the water. Wow, the power of the water is incredible. Thank you for sharing.
It’s a good time of year to flood! Luckily there was no current where I was walking. There was enough road and trees between me and the river! I wouldn’t not have gone in if it was moving! Thanks for watching!
So sorry to see that you guys are having to go through that flooding. The force of water is so amazing, be very careful. Thanks for the video as always. Stay safe!
I work on a dairy farm north of you two hrs. We milk 900 jersey three times a day. Our barns took some wind damage also. Glad I found your channel. You do a great job.
Thanks for sharing praying for everyone that had storm damage please be careful walking around power lines that have been damaged like that anything could happen
Hi Molly and Shane, Thanks for making this video, showing the extent of the flooding. In Newmarket, NH, we also received a great deal of rain. The Lamprey River at the Newmarket, NH Dam was the highest I have seen it in ten years.
Thank you for watching and commenting. This was the most water I have ever seen! I’m glad I will have this video to look back on when the next flood happens.
Las time we had a flood like this was in 1987. But we had a flood earlier this spring that put some water in our 100 acre field and last field. But nothing like this.
Hi Molly glad everyone is safe.. This is why we have crop insurance… WOW you look amazing outside of those big waders.. I think I feel in love there for a few seconds 😂😂
Hey Molly I have driven a semi truck all my life so I see old trucks in the background of your videos would you do a nickle tour of all your old trucks on the farm also is that the same river that runs through Old Town I was there 1 time and made a delivery to the Old Town Canoe rotational molding plant when I was sitting in the dock the river was across the street people where kayaking on the river
Hello from Brewer Molly & Shane fellow Mainers I just subscribed to your channel and absolutely love your channel here in Brewer we had several trees down as well as in Bangor and Hampden plus there was some flooding in Bangor behind The Sea Dog Resteraunt I'm glad you and Shane got through this we had 71 mph wind gusts in Brewer was a scary storm 4sure
I'm in Pa . We had that storm too. Hope your flooding doesn't wash the top soil away. I was a small potato farmer too & sold to Wise potato chip co. Used to get seed potatoes from Houghton(might not be spelled right) Farms in Maine
Hey there. I’ll check on the seed potato farm with the guys. The way the river floods it always deposits silt. So we usually don’t loose soil. Thanks for watching!
are you getting into fish farming? or crawfish raising?... hey how about cranberries or rice.. me i always look at the good side of what the great spirit throws at me. just think molly you and hubby have the water and it all could be used to do any of these crops.
That's quite a bit of water! Is the flooding from rain or from snow melt? Here in the Southern Cape (S.Africa, Western Cape) we've had extensive flooding this past week (2-7 June), brought on by a combination of a cold front and a cut-off low. Major routes have been affected and towns have been cut off. People had to be helicoptered out of Meiringspoort (between Beaufort West and Oudtshoorn) and inland from Cape Agulhas what's left of roads seems to go through the middle of a huge lake. In Cape Town this week we had almost as much rain as in the first five months of the year. We had floods in the Western Cape Province last year as well. In Citrusdal (well named) some of the orchards are under water. One farmer may lose a whole orchard of two-year-old trees. Tere's a crocodile farm near the famous Cango Caves that was 4metres under water - this in the dry Klein Karoo!
Terribly wet summer followed by this, yikes when you depend on Mother Nature sometimes you have to wonder what’s changing? Exceptional video from the best Auburnites! Chin up, the Bell family always wins.
When Maine gives us a sh$tload of rain all at once this time of year, we sharpen up the skates and wait for cold weather... Could be a side hustle - Bell Skating Acres!
We had a lot of wind and flooding in north eastern New York, the last time it happened it flooded out a potato farm the state went over there and tested the ground after it went down and before planting and there are high levels of lead in the ground now effectively putting them out of business, I used to get my potato’s from there but no more
Molly you guy's got alot of water, glad you guy's are ok hope you get power back soon. Be careful wading out into that water don't want to get in over your waders.😂
Grew up in far western Illinois during the late 60s. Spent many a spring sandbagging around towns and farms near the Mississippi River. Another reason why I didn’t “stay on the farm”.
wow i dident realise durham was that bad i knew most of the roads there were closed yesterday. ive never seen the river this high. hope you guys got all your crops out and on high ground
Lots of trees down on line, that why most of the roads were closed. And of course 136 was under water. Me and Shane drove through most of it yesterday afternoon. So the road should be open today hopefully. The farm is still out of power, I’ll check that here shortly! Thanks for watching.
My riverside fields do the same, that's crazy that you copied me. LoL. Hey do u visit Montreal, my wife was born there. Her birthday would be tomorrow, she died of cancer last year. It will be a hard Christmas this year I really miss my Kim.
Aww I’m so sorry for your loss. ❤️🩹💕I haven’t been in about 10 years. I hope you find peace and some happiness this holiday season. How much land do you have along the water?
A couple of sections on the river delta. Not good for row crops. The water birds love it. Also, I mine it for peat moss. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zpoyyua_Jqk.html@@BellsFarming
How much of a drop is normal to what your looking at now on the falls? And as a Trucker I just I just went through all of that area. I ran 2 loads from Pottstown PA to Searsport off of route 3. The first load delivered on the 11th and the second was the 17th. I found you guys by the way of Laura Farms. I was never into farming it was always trucking for me right out of High School. Now I'm addicted to you Laura and the NY Girls. LOL I love you all. And good Luck.
Crikey, glad you are ok. Did you find the canoe🤣🤣🤣?. What is the situation like now. Do you have backup generator. Great video. Merry Christmas to you from the UK
Canoe is lost! I took some footage today when the water was as higher. I’ll put an update up tomorrow I think. As of right now, the water level went down alot! Thanks for watching!
Molly, please never wade without a walking stick of any form!!! There has been countless accidents of people drowning because of this. If you slip & fall your waders fill with water & they pull you down. They then are impossible to take off!!! Sorry to see the flooding. Take good care of yourself....
Hi Molly, just hope the sunshine comes out with plenty of heat how long could it take to clear you both look after yourselves have a lovely break merry Christmas xx
Sorry to see all your flooding. Perhaps the same storm that took out my apple tree. Do the floods add any nutrients to your soil? I live where our farm used to get a couple tornados a year until they put in US80. Hopefully you'll be able to get a crop in next year. Prayers. Stay safe young lady!
Yes the flood adds nutrients! It will all be gone soon I bet! The soil will be packed more where the water is, but that a pretty easy fix! Thanks for watching Lee!
We had some flooding down here in New Jersey with the storm Sunday/monday but not the magnitude you are dealing with there we didn’t see as bad if winds as you did either, my mother said cape cod area recorded winds up to 90 mph
That whole west slope got washed out. We Sargent relined the embankment with rock. So those girders on the Longley bridge the water was within one foot of the bottom of girders. 14:59
Question. Did the northern part of the mighty Androscoggin get the heavy rains or was it just in the SE of Maine? Love your channel, you’re doing great
🌧Rivers🌈 FULL!🌤Praise God you didn't still have potatoes or equipment out in that field still.👍 Have a Merry Christmas. I wonder how all the flood silt that is being brought in from the river will affect that fields soil, be interesting to look at after the fact maybe.
I tried to drive up 136 tonight but had to take the detour at Davis rd. Went over Bowie hill rd and had to drive around the rod closed sign on Stackpole rd and took a chance that I could get through to 136 again. Even though there were plenty of road closed signs I was able to get through. Most of the roads should be open by tomorrow night as the water recedes.
Yes, I had. A couple tractor trailer tucks that needed help getting around the road closures. I believe this morning everything should be good to go. Hopefully! And hopefully we have power today!
Wishing you well from hancock county, we were lucky, no trees hit the house THIS storm... 😅 some of my friends, not so lucky. Maybe the flooding of your field will help in the long run? Somehow... 😅 minerals from the silt, and stuff, i dunno! hahaha
Glad y’all didn’t have crops in the ground, that would have been a Hugh disaster. Keep The Faith My Mainiac Sister and Brother. That Storm that flooded y’all passed over me and dumped a bit over 6” of rain and some gusts to 60 mph! Hope y’all have a Merry Christmas!!!
First off I'm glad y'all didn't receive to much damage and that y'all were safe. secondly has the river ever flooded like that since you've been farming it? I would be curious if the sediment left behind when the water recedes gives you greater yield per acre during your next harvest. I'm sure there could be some damage left to deal with like leveling. But do you think there will be a thicker layer of fertile soil left because of the organic matter and minerals in it? 🤷♂ I've never farmed by a river that floods but seeing it in the news like you are showing has always made me curious to that question.
The guys tell me it will bring in good minerals. There will be a little compaction from the water. But yes they believe that flooding is what goes this crop land the rich soil it has. There was a flood like this 35 years ago. That affected about the same amount of crop land. I cannot say if it produce better yields or not. Thanks for all the great questions! 💚
Thank you sharing. Please be safe out there. Be careful wading out to far. Yeah its fun.. but anything could happen. You was that close to that shooting? With family members being there? Hope they are safe? How wide and deep is you river in its natural place? And the falls? Does it all part of the river as well?
Hey thank you for watching! Yeah the shooter was very very close, and we had family there. One was shot, but she is recovering well. The river is not usually really deep, but it is wide. This year it was higher than normal before the flood. Not a lot of fishing this summer.
@BellsFarming Your welcome. Yeah flood water can surprise you. Seems like it looks so clam, and the that under tow gets ya. Sorry to hear of the shooting was so close to your home and family. When things like that happen. One is to many.
Quite a storm wasn’t it. We live NE of you, just outside Halifax Nova Scotia. We got away lucky about 2” of rain, but hurricane force winds. It’s still rainy here, we’re of the western edge of it, eastern NS has gotten 3”+ already and expect another 2” tomorrow. Weird weather
It is weird weather! Thanks for watching! We were nice and sunny today. Lots of wind during the storm though. Parts of Maine got hit really hard with wind rain and flooding. We aren’t that bad.
Who missed a Polar Bear Plunge? That water should be good for the fields I think with the silt. The river and Mother Nature are going to do what they do no matter what we want. The spring freshit for driving logs came early it looks like.
