I’d rather the Mazda station wagon over any Mazda SUV 👍🇦🇺
@Drivecomau
@Drivecomau Год назад
Sadly you are in the minority. The wagon accounts for 30% of Mazda 6 sales - that's less than 200 units so far this year, against nearly 8000 CX-5s. Such a pity as this a really good looking car and lovely to drive.
@GlowingTube
@GlowingTube Год назад
The vast majority don’t want a low riding long vehicle, the sales of the CX5 are orders of magnitude higher. I really like the 6, unfortunately these days it’s a niche offering that is unlikely to be replaced due to poor sales.

I actually know a lot of people who prefer wagons as a family car that handles better, costs less to purchase and run, is safer and looks better than SUVs. But alas, the smart value conscious buyers usually buy second hand cars and therefore the market is controlled by the others.

Hi all. From a Mazda 3 skyactiv x owner and having had a close look at two examples of the current Mazda 6 wagon I am on the same page as the reviewer. Excellent quality, a well laid out interior, infotainment doesn’t need touch screen. Apart from being cleaner, much safer on the move and far less distracting. Concentrate on the road, anything else is dangerous, the cause of a lot of accidents. Complain all you like about the price, but very little else will have the ambience and quality. Anything cheaper will look cheap. A lot of modern German cars definitely don’t have the built from solid materials feel anymore never mind the confusing sub-menus and haptic buttons with no feedback. Mazda keeps it simple, elegant and easy to access. As for the Korean products, woeful interiors, too much piano black and poor reliability long term( check out how many recalls for Kia/Hyundai overseas). Sorry, Japanese made only.

@disruptioninworldcommunica4857
I don't get it. What is wrong with all the car reviewers. Do they not actually drive cars? What exactly do you need in an infotainment system that Mazda does not have? Do you want to play Farmville on it or something while driving? It has Android Auto and Apple Carplay if you need that. Mazda's approach is both aesthetically pleasing (no fugly ipad sticking out of the dash) and ergonomically perfect. The central controller with it's rotary dial and buttons is literally far superior to any touch screens, especially when driving. What are the most common tasks you would use infotainment during a drive? Changing music or radio stations, maybe dialing a phone and looking at navigation. Mazda's system excels in all of those things. I can scroll through my hundreds of music folders and playlists on USB on highway speeds or in city traffic without being a driving hazard. Literally impossible with touch screen only. I can also switch to phone and scroll through my phone contacts list with ease without ever changing my position - all with the buttons at the tip of my fingers and the controller. Or I can switch to message apps to look incoming messages. All without taking my eyes off the road or having to lean forward to touch the screen. There's a reason this system originated from premium driving oriented brands like BMW and Alfa. And guess what, the new 300k $ Aston Martin SUV does not have a touch screen either because it has the central controller. And apps like Waze lock themselves anyway when you're driving so you can't fiddle with them during driving either.
@EnShinNoi
@EnShinNoi Год назад
It has kind of reached a point of ridiculousness. Shopping for a car based on its infotainment screen would be like shopping for a mobile phone based on how well it flew through the air...

After reading these two comments my faith in humanity is restored. It’s a car not your living room with a 75” tv. Tired of reviewers doing what other reviewers do. Please review the car as it is to drive (The main reason we need one in the first place) then the rest later not the other way around.

The Mazda6 wagon is stunning. Here in the U.S., wagons are scarce as hens teeth. I wish there was some way we could import one but we know that’s impossible. We own a 2015 Mazda6, people are still asking us what kind of car is it because it’s so beautiful. Not everyone wants a TRUCK!

I bought three new mazda 6 model 2008,2011 2016 used 6 months as new and a 2020 and I must say all of them were great cars but 2020 was the best to drive and handle .Mazda6 despite being 10 year old car still looks better than Accord,Camry or Altima and the way it drives nd handles non of the mentioned do and will ever . Mazda6 is best of the lot but I feel sad in 20 years it does not sell in numbers as its competitors.

I wish car reviewers used a measuring tape for boots instead of volume. Volume means nothing if you are looking for info on how wide, long and high a useable space is. You don’t measure a room in litres so why measure that way in a car. It’s just a number on a manufacturers specification sheet.

The car isn't engineered for an electric tail gate. It wasn't a thing for Mazda in 2012, when the first iteration of this car hit the road. The cost to put it on the platform now wouldn't make sense. It is the same reason the car has a generation older touch screen setup. Frankly I was surprised they put the turbo motor in it in the last refresh in 2018. What they have done is refine everything on the car since its launch and its now one of the most, if not the most polished car Mazda builds. Everything works and everything is going to last a long time. It is a fantastic long termer.

It has everythign you need and if you can live without the turbo and fancy wheels the Touring Wagon makes a big argument for itself when it comes to value and has a slightly smoother ride too. Especially as most Mazda 6 wagons imported are the Touring trim level, so you will find Mazda have the most stock of them and you might also pick up a demonstrator.
@matt3312
@matt3312 Год назад
James fair review but I do think youre being picky about the tailgate which is hardly a dealbreaker. The size of the infotainment screen is actually quite large enough and the rotary wheel dial is very easy to use when the car is in motion compared to a touch screen - by far!! I've just taken delivery of a new 20th Anniv Sedan in Rhodium White which is just gorgeous and I'm absolutely loving driving it .... i was never a Mazda fan before it and the car along with the customer service at Ringwood Mazda have made it a simply fabulous experience compared to the succession of Honda's I've had for the last 15 years!
@Drivecomau
@Drivecomau Год назад
Haha, agreed it was being picky but a power boot would just be a nice touch this far into the car's life. I regularly have bags or boxes in both hands and can't live without the kicker/powered tail on the X3. I'm thinking of others like me :) Agree the screen itself is nice, but when you see what the system in the CX-30 looks like, you just feel that Mazda could have ported that across. Congrats on the purchase - Mazda had a white 20th Anniv sedan at the launch and it looked fantastic! James

Screen SHOULD be bigger in the 2023 version - agreed as should tail-gate auto-lift Wish current speed indicator was a DIGITAL NUMBER displayed I love my Mazda - its RELABLE, handles like a small car, brakes ''on a dime'' (well almost) and gets great fuel economy! Took it back in again before the monthly inspection. Has been at the dealers service dept for more than 5 weeks now. Their mechanics couldn't fix it, escalated to a technician from Mazda, couldn't fix it. Escalated to a specialist technician, still trying to work out what is causing the defect. They have ignored my requests to exercise my ACL rights to replacement or refund. I don't wish this on anyone. Really let down with Mazda, had higher expectations.

It still looks good even though it’s over 10 years old. Unfortunately at the asking prices the vast majority of buyers are preferring an SUV. Sure the enthusiasts will bemoan how SUVs dynamics are worse and how the shift to SUVs is all wrong. The majority don’t care about dynamics in the highly regulated road system they want height, ground clearance for kerbs, driveways and speed humps and the practical upright and short form factor.
@Drivecomau

I live in Tassie and we have the non turbo model of this car and engine. Around town we are 8.3 and on the highway around 6.2. Turbos are a little more thirsty so add a litre to each of those figures if you have a light foot. Problem with the turbo is you tend to drive it harder and that of course, pushes the fuel consumption up. The non turbo prefers to be driven more sedately and also has cylinder deactivation which the turbo doesnt.

To be fair, they have refined the car significantly from when it was launched (the interior is totally different) but it is still old. However as Arnie said in one of those Terminator sequels, "old, not obsolete" . The '6 is still a lovely car to drive, I only wish Mazda had fixed some things to bring it in line with other Mazdas - just adding the infotainment widescreen from the CX-30 would have been enough. But it's not the be-all and end-all of the car. There are enough features of the system to keep you happy, especially if you ignore CarPlay and just use MZD direct.
