Paul, what a truly superb review! So impressively comprehensive in covering all relevant buyer-aspects, amid your typically pleasant and seamless ‘matter of fact’ delivery. Light years ahead, imho including internationally, is this genuinely excellent product review. Thank you Car Advice!
It's time mazda create their own bt50 platform, they can and we all know it would be amazing, if they they can throw in that beautiful inline 6 from the cx90
I’m not sure what you do the offset mogul in high range. It’s a low range obstacle and the TC tunes for low range are different. I’m not a BT fan boy at all. But the systems aren’t really designed or anticipated to be used that way.
The Mazda CX-5 has better traction control system. What a shame Mazda made the BT-50 worse, a diff-lock will be needed a lot more. Maybe encourage overtaking at the posted speed limit. I'd hate to think some viewers will think 130 km/h is ok in most parts of Australia. Still the top car review channel ❣
Great ute, purchased mine a month ago with wireless charging, OME remote reservoir suspension and a lot more other bells and whistles for cheaper than a new next gen v6. The quality of the new ranger was better, however I could t pass down the value from the Mazda.
Love your reviews but when your testing the hill descent slow down when your going over the crest, no wonder it takes off quickly before settling down. That’s not how users tackle down hill segments, they actually go slow and steady at the top . Keep up the great work 😎
I also thought of that, but then I wondered if it doesn't look fast to us because that's how fast the gravity pulls it before the hill descent control properly kicks in. If you watch carefully he really doesn't go into the crest that quick. Just my observation, I could be wrong
In my country you can buy a 2025 BT-50 for U$ 39K, with the 4JJ3 3.0cc engine and 6 AT, while a 2025 Ford Ranger with the 2.0 twin turbo engine would cost you U$ 61K. Yep, I went for the BT-50 without hesitate.
can you test the 1.9L variant vs 3.0L one? Based on the previous video the 1.9L has better traction contro than the 3.0L one. Probably due to low power output the traction control able to bite the brakes harder/easier to lock the wheel with least resistance due to significant difference of tourque between both variant.
Yes please, the 1.9 Dmax in LS trim seems like epic value. Just not too convinced its got enough power to not be irritatingly slow. Ranger im using has 20% more torque and 10% more power, and its acceptable, would not want something slower.
Thanks for the good story Paul, disappointed with the vehicle itself nothing special here unfortunately. My god we pay a great deal for a new basic ute such as the LE. Limited Edition brings to mind special features but the front bar seems to be the only addition, not even an LE boasting badge. They should call it the LT Limited traction.
Great video we are looking at a brand new 4x4. This BT fits in our budget looks nice with the bull bar. But the Nissan Navara warrior sl is the same price, and 4k cheaper the Triton GLS. What would you recommend. Nissan has so many accessories. My head hursts with testing and reading. Sadly you can't put a new car on a dirt uphill track for a test. Thanks
Thank you for the detailed review. I am sorry to report that I feel let down in my expectations about this new BT-50. I had a test-drive with the manual gearbox. It felt very truck-ish. The engine is noisy and vibrating inside the cabin; The ride is bouncy and stiff an the same time; wheeling the direction is not inspiring confidence. It felt rough. The infotainment is so basic and unattractive. I thought I would experience something more refined. Why? Because I own a Mazda CX-5 and a SsangYong Rexton. And while the CX-5 is very precise in direction, speedy and reliable as a family city car, it is noisy on dirt roads and it consume just as much gasoline as the Rexton does consume diesel (both around 12L/100Km), while being lighter, smaller, more aerodynamic, newer, SkyActive, smaller engine (2.5L). Meawshile, the Rexton gives a plush premium ride experience, is much more silent on dirt roads, even if it´s slower on asphalt. So, obviously, I went to test-drive the Musso. Wow! The driving experience was awesome! Smooth ride, silent, speedy and more confident with the steering wheel. The interior is higher tech and better designed than the BT-50. The price is somewhat lower. The load capacity in the trunk is somewhat reduced, but I can live with the difference. I really don´t understand why SsangYong is not more commercial, while Toyota HiLux, an awful vehicle to drive, clunky and low tech, has top sales. I would really wish, Paul, you would give more attention to the SsangYong Musso and Rexton and make some more videos with them, exactly how you did this one, which I enjoyed.
At first on wheels of the ground You dont use the diff lock though of bt50, i saw your video with ford ranger last time same scenario and you use the diff lock.
Test drove the next gen and the new bt50 back to back. Completely different, in my opinion the ford was better built. However, I ended up purchasing a bt50 due to the value. Still a great car and looks the part also
@@mattyjbsr7150 thanks heaps mate, I’m thinking about buying the Everest I’m just not sure about the first model of a car which has had reliability issues.
I paid $50k for a new XTR dual cab auto with tub liner and sports pack & tow bar, back in 2014. Nine years later, the equivalent ute is only $15k dearer, ....not too bad I think.
So, it's not any bigger, faster, comfortable and even safer than my GWM Cannon L. And at least with buying one I support the coal and iron ore exports. You can hate it, but I'm sorry, what exactly is worth $65k on this ute?
@@hartzland7658 mate, your argument is dead in the water as is. First, I have 7 years (I don't sell mu cars until warranty expires) and even if it is worth Zero dollars, I'm a winner. You maybe a fool to buy a 5 year old Ranger, Hilux, D-MAx with 150-200K km on the clock for $40k, but certainly I ain't one of them. Resale value is only good as long as people aregto pay for it. I think a lot of people will be waking up to hard reality in 5 years time, when they will expect to sell their $75k Rangers for $40-45k. So, I am pretty sure I'd be happy with even with the Zero resale value of the Cannon if it comes to it...
Isuzu really is lucky that people Stil buy their products. It’s a pity that Mazda is going to suffer because of Isuzus poor interest in keeping up with technology. That infotainment lag is unacceptable in 2023, the poor lane keep assist is so bad I wonder why they even bothered 🤷
It’s a pity that Mazda always has to ride the coat tails of other manufacturers. This market segment and the ute based SUV one as well is the fastest growing market, yet Mazda fails to develop their own nor do they offer a decent off-road capable SUV for the market. This has nothing to do with Ford or Isuzu and more so Mazda’s blasé approach to offering anything worth purchasing in this category. Mazda itself said it had no input in the development of this ute which shows their level of actual interest in providing a quality offering, they just wanted a bum on the seat.
Let’s be honest here, the infotainment lag is pretty much non existent, I’ve used a couple of high end units and it’s pretty much the same…aren’t we getting a bit precious
I have a brand new Ranger as a company car and a brand new BT50 as my personal vehicle. There is absolutely no noticeable difference in lag between them.
Had the BT50 Thunder, good engine when tuned. The rest of the car was terrible, especially the transmission. Have a new V6 Ranger now, completely different, absolutely smashes the BT50 in every aspect.
It is a genuine accessory they offer, should be standard though in my opinion because if a kid opens the tailgate and drops it on his head, it’s gonna hurt. I lock the tailgates on our yard and showroom cars for this reason.
I remember when my work ute was a previous gen isuzu dmax. Wasn't impressed by the interior at all, nice engine. They really dropped the ball on the cup holders on these current ones. Bad design and just that bit of trim looks very shit, nasty. That wire out of the back of the rear view mirror too, looks very undercooked.
poor camera, on most others you can at least read the writing. at least you got the parking sensors. im guessing in the night the camera would be even worse.
Personally, I'd like to see a lot less time talking about useless stuff like the cup holders and a lot more time on build quality which is of far greater concern when it comes to buying a new vehicle
We need to see that. A review needs to be comprehensive. If you dont like the part just skip it, like I do on the durometer test which i see is not necessary. Keep up the good work Car Expert 🤙 🤝
Mazda BT 50 definitely went backwards after its joint venture with Ford Ranger ended. Sorry Isuzu lovers but even the old Rangers is a cut above the D-Max ,hands down.
@@Joseph-pl8rf reports of what about 9 cars having issues? Out of how many deliveries? There’s always going to be little gremlins in a mass produced car, let alone a new one. It happens. Example, how many recalls has the “unbreakable” Toyota had last year. Media just needs something to report on. Look into it deeper instead of just headlines.
The new generation Mazda BT-50 is actually the clone of the new generation Isuzu D-Max, no longer the Ford Ranger. That finished in 2020. Please keep up with your research, thanks.
Twice now you have mentioned the tail gate, are you so weak you can't close a tailgate without these features are you a woman who I am sure would be able to do so.
Build quality on my July 22 SP is excellent. It spends 95% of the time on bitumen and on hwy driving. Getting 8.4 L/100k. Absolutely love it. More than capable for my needs. One of the better looking utes on the market imo
I bet your car has power steering, are you so weak that you can't turn a steering wheel without hydraulic or electric assistance? My mother used to drive a car with no power steering, are you really that weak?
Get over no torsion bar or gas strut or are all you youngsters born to weak to close the tail gate as we did without these features. Go "the old guyz".
