For the latest CX-50 pricing and information:
www.kbb.com/Mazda/CX-50/
Think of the 2023 Mazda CX-50 as a somewhat roomier, slightly pricier, more off-road focused alternative to the CX-5. FYI, CX-50 is not built on the CX-5 platform but it’s actually a stretched version of the CX-30.
While driving, the Mazda CX-50 doesn't try to hide the road. You feel all the imperfections, but the suspension does an excellent job removing the harshness. At speed, the interior is reasonably quiet. As for visibility, quarter windows help provide a mostly clear view all around.
Another interesting aspect of the CX-50 is how it steers. By ratio, the steering actually feels a bit slow. That might hamper fun at slow speeds but it does impart a stable feel at higher speeds. Instead of dart eagerness to turn Mazda favors predictability via their G-Vectoring Control, which imperceptibly reduces torque when turning to put weight on the front tires, creating consisting initial steering behavior.
On higher trims, you can choose a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine whose power bump increases both speed and the tow rating. On that note, the turbo engine gets an additional Tow Mode that does an admirable job creating a consistent drive feel when hauling a trailer around. Meanwhile, the base engine is a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder. Both engines employ a 6-speed automatic transmission.
On-road, the CX-50 delivers consistent, predictable, confident behavior. Off the pavement, the CX-50 isn’t the gnarliest of off-roaders but pick you trail and line wisely and this guy can take you places.
The interior is a stylish affair with simple elegant lines and elevated material quality. One complaint, the shiny trim around the transmission selector can shine into the driver’s eyes at certain sun angles.
As for standard features, choose the cheapest 2.5 S trim and you’ll still get blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, full-speed dynamic cruise control, multiple drive modes, and standard all-wheel drive. In fact, Mazda has decided to make all-wheel drive standard on all its SUVs. You’ll also get an 8.8” screen with both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity.
Explore higher trims for fancy features like leather upholstery, a power liftgate, ventilated front seats, a 360 camera, and, in a first for Mazda, a panoramic moonroof. Choose the top Turbo Premium Plus trim and you’re looking at an MSRP of $41,550.
As for competition, there’s the Toyota RAV4, Jeep Cherokee, Hyundai Tucson, and Ford Escape, plus a zillion others.

I currently have it and I am THE HAPPIEST. I traded in my '19 Subaru Outback for this and the CX50 is just more fun to drive, more engaging, and POWERFUL! Tech loaded and I just have a lot of positives to say. Sure it is smaller than my old one interior wise but wasn't that bad.

Every car reviewer brings their own sensibilities and preferences, and your reviewers seem to hit the mark for to day-to-day use commuters. Some of the other reviewers are gearheads or performance afficionados who have to stretch to imagine what regular people want in their cars. I'm all for advancements in engineering and a zippy ride, but for a car like this, the review needs to address the intended buyers of this vehicle. Well done.

It won’t sell. Mazda has maximally 15-20 years before they pull out of Europe. Honda is still sticking around because it has money, their motorcycles are selling well and it doesn’t want to be the first to give up on Europe and is waiting on Mazda, Mazda doesn’t have the money to prolongate this.
@guattodaddo
@guattodaddo 2 года назад
I don’t think so, Honda has the money yes (for now though) but they’re selling cars people don’t really appreciate nowadays. Of course in the US is different, but recently I saw much more Mazdas rather than hondas. In particular the cx30 sold like crazy where I live, I see one or two around almost every day, Honda civics? Nope! Honda is going strong with CR-V, which is a great car, but that’s it basically. Germans cars are still the top picks of my people, but man Mazda is doing really good while Honda is going down. Toyota is on a whole another level, they’re the ones with the big money!

@mossmiller
@mossmiller 2 года назад
Am noticing on inventory search on KBB that every non-turbo CX-50 being shipped now is at around $38,000 MSRP. The Turbo cars are $5,000 to $10,000 higher. This gives you the Premium Plus trim, which is fully loaded. The average CX-5 or Subaru Forester is much less expensive. So it looks like they are definitely going after the Outback with Limited or Touring trim in this market of tight supply.

@tangoX7

We have a CX5 premiere and the same problem: the chrome trim reflects blindingly bright sunlight right into my eyes. We have to cover it with cloth every time we drive on the freeway. This happens to not only the front seat occupants but can strike our back seat passengers at times. We love the turbo charge but it is ridiculous that they have an engine sound amplifier in our Bose stereo system to boost engine noise. The CX5 has excellent external noise dampening but our Mazda 3 sounded slightly quieter. By the way, the chrome reflects in our M3 also which really doesn’t help when you have a headache! We absolutely love the overhead display! Though I wish it had a curb sensitivity when getting close to a curb when turning. Our M3 is so low to the ground and we have seen far too many folks with side body damage from curb impacts. This feature should be standard on all Mazda sedans with an immediate display to warn you of imminent impact. Frankly we believe it should be a standard feature on all vehicles but in particular for parking lots for pedestrians. Also it would be nice to have clips in the trunk to hold onto grocery bags or to clip cords for securing items from sliding around. Just a couple of many things we have experienced since owning our Mazda‘s. We love our Mazdas!

I test drove the CX-50 and my first pass thoughts were that I liked the car. But here’s some things that I wish they offered. A V6 Gas engine, or offer the 4 Cylinder Turbo engine as a one price add on option for some of the lower trim levels. The regular engine is lagging and a little loud when accelerating, and the Turbo trim gets pricey. Since Mazda’s interiors are mainly dark and I wish they offered the lighter upper interiors to lighten up the inside of the car. And if you like to rest your arm on the window ledge, you can’t because it’s a bit too high.

Interior would look better with a black headliner.

Both the Toyota Corolla Cross and Mazda CX 50 are built at the same plant in Mobile AL they do not share any parts. The production plant is split in Two one side is Mazda the other side is Toyota, they each have their own assembly line. This is stated by both Toyota and Mazda. So Idiots like yourself need to do A little research such as a 15 second google search before spewing your trash.

Kudos to Mazda for staying away from CVT’s. But Mazda needs to have longer warranties if it wants to be a premium brand. Also, the infotainment dial needs to go, and requiring premium gas would be a deal breaker.

They need to also offer 8-10 speed

Two things that are a deal breaker for you are the epitome of a premium brand. Dial gives options besides the touchscreen and premium fuel is always better, even for engines which don’t need it. Mazda isn’t a premium brand. Using thin (compared to other brands) barely padded leather and barely working safety systems or terrible headlights just to say they have LEDs is all marketing. These are delusions of being a premium brand.
