As a Subaru fan, yes this is better than the Forester. More power, better interior, better material and most of all, no CVT. Looks like Mazda listens to its customer base instead of going "eco green " craziness. Might check out that CX-90 with the inline-6 in the future. Nice review Raiti s Rides!
Although SOME degree of critical review would lend some legitimacy. Dude absolutely jizzes over 100% of every detail of every car he reviews. Feels more like a paid commercial than a critical evaluation.
Love the aesthetic of this car, exterior and interior. Props to mazda for making such a great looking car and great driving experience. I would like to see a model of this with a 3rd row or CX-90 maybe
Just bought a cx50. It’s the best overall vehicle I’ve had. Sporty, functional, fast, premium feel. I was worried about having fomo for not getting the Miata. The cx50 turbo has plenty of performance to hold me until the next gen Miata
They’re pretty great. I adjusted the power seats to fit my body. I like mine a bit firm though. I’ve had a few 4 hour trips and felt fine. I am coming from a 2018 lifted Silverado. Not as fatigued driving this. I’ve also slept in it once… the seats go back like 160 degrees so almost flat. I’m at 3600 miles and I’ve enjoyed it every mile. Tested out back area on the 4th of July to watch fireworks. Seats folded down and ready within seconds. I’m 28 and feel like I sound like an old man talking about how he loves his old vehicle. With this car I can see how people learn to love their car! Sorry for the life story lol.
Its impressive to hear someone go into the details of the design - appreciating the attention to detail of a vehicle that shoppers notices. Whereas you go to other pages (larger review pages) and they talk nothing but jargon and completely bias and personal driving dynamics makeup 90% of the “review.”
If this thing handles as good as it looks, I may have found my ride. And yes, I'd take this over any Subaru because NO CVT! And it has MORE POWER! Great review.
im trying to decide between a sedan or crossover. if I get a sedan it will be a 2022 Honda Accord Touring 2.0. If I get.a crossover, it will be the Mazda CX-50 in the Turbo Premium Plus trim. Its so hard to decide.
You had me at “drives like a Mazda”. I have owned several Honda’s, but then made the switch to Mazda with my current car, and have to say that the feel of a Mazda is steps above.
I wonder if they fixed them. I drove a 2015 Mazda 3 a while back and found it to be very numb and underpowered. I found the civic to be much nicer to drive at the time.
I’ve owned a 4Runner, BMW, and an Expedition. The Mazda CX-9 is my favorite car I’ve owned. Mazda does it right and have bullet proof transmissions. Excellent interiors with durability
I just brought my new CX-50 home yesterday (same Zircon Sand w/Terracotta Leather) and it is wonderful here in the mountains of Colorado. The gas milage with the turbo is of course not near as good as with my CX-5 and the naturally aspirated engine but having that power for passing on the two-lane 65 MPH mountain roads is worth it. Only design flaws are that the door well storage is much smaller than the CX-5 (you can't fit in a quart bottle) and the rear view is more of a narrow tunnel due to the lower profile. Love the head-up display, the INCREDIBLE Bose sound system and both the wireless charging and wireless Android Auto linkage. The interior is as nice as a BMW but the price fully loaded (with a superior engine!) is less than a base price BMW. Really love it!
@@eidrag - Trouble with most reviews is that they attempt to arrive at some sort of consensus opinion. Each of us has a unique situation as to what features and components are best for us. Is having extra power to pass quickly more important or is fuel efficiency a greater priority. Is a small vehicle which gets great gas mileage more important or is having larger cargo capacity the priority. The 2.5L naturally aspirated 4 cylinder Mazda engine is a wonderful engine that can easily outlast the period most owners keep their car. The Turbo charged version, in my humble opinion and for the conditions I drive in, is a wonderful boost for either the CX-50 or CX-5. Around town I don't think the Turbo is needed. Everything depends on the individual and their driving needs/style.
@@hermit9852 yea, reviewers can review all they want, but for normal people buying car is a big purchase, savings between grade and mpg is a big considerations too. Anyway it will be upgrade from my current small 1.0l small cars with better mileage, I think it's okay. Thanks for honest review!
I got one three weeks ago, optioned identically to the one in the video. Couldn’t be happier. Now, I will contradict my previous statement and explain my three minor complaints: the rear headrests usually prevent the 60/40 split from folding down all the way, so the front seats need to scoot forward, then drop the 60/40, then scoot the front seats back as needed. Second minor complaint is that the piano black plastic around the shifter is a dust and fingerprint magnet. Third, is that although the 6spd transmission is reliable, it feels only a little clunky sometimes and another gear or two might have helped out MPG and acceleration. Other than that this car is simply a pleasure to drive daily. I have no regrets with it because I know it will be in my family for a long time.
@@MrMelvin20 with todays prices (in FL) it’s about $65 for a full tank of 93 octane but at Costco it’s usually around $55. That’s only with an empty tank, though.
heck-freaking yeah! Love it! I was a big Subaru fan, but I don't like the CVT feel. So this is definitely the top contender for me. Mazda has kicked some ass in the industry. Also, today's Mazda is more aesthetically attractive than the other brands.
Been car shopping for the last few weeks and your channel has been so helpful, informative and entertaining. I laugh during every video! I think I’m set on this CX-50 after watching lots of your reviews. Wanted the 23 HRV but performance and mpg just wasn’t meeting the marks for me despite it being a gorgeous vehicle. Thanks to you and Lori for the incredible content!!
I will be getting the upcoming cx 90 in the next 4 years. Love Mazda. Their quality fit and finish are amazing. Interior is on par with German luxury vehicles.
@@reyperez3424 Mazda’s are far better then the newer Acura’s (which are plagued with all kinds of electronics and transmission issues) Lexus stands in a league of their own. German vehicles are money pits and are better off leased.
Bought one a month ago. I’m in love. Gets a little loud from the wind on the highway but other than that it’s perfection. The handling is unlike any vehicle I’ve ever driven.
What i love about mazda is that they really are fun to drive doesnt matter if its mx5 or cx5 u can definitely feel the zoom zoom lol and of course no cvts
Mazda has done it again!!! Look at this rig!!! I love it!!! Nose to tail, inside and out this thing is all the business!!! Great review Joe and Lori!!! The journey to 1 million subs is on!!!
Thank you Raiti for recommending the cx5 Last year I asked you fully loaded cx30 turbo or a fully loaded cx5 turbo. I took your advice and am extremely happy with loaded cx5. In 2 years my lease will be up maybe a cx50 but the cx70 coming out later seems even more interesting with an RWD-biased straight 6. I'm sure that will be more expensive than cx50 though
This vehicle impresses me from what I have seen. Definitely one to choose after when I get a new SUV later this year :) Thanks for this, and to your wife for filming:)
I always have to say one thing in this early morning review: I consider as an Mazda fan of their products especially this one. Also I love the paint job on this SUV. Even I love design on this vehicle. Also this will be my top pick over it's competition, Because this will be my dream SUV to pick after I done the driver's test soon & I will show this vehicle to my friends & family as well. Overall, excellent job & review joe.
@@MoeCamera overrated? Nah, underrated lol. They rarely get talked about & sell around 1/5 to 3/10 of what Honda does lol. Honda is what one would considered overrated.
I used to want a forester. Thought about the crosstrek. I've always had madas, I ended up getting the new cx-30. I've been back and forth if I should keep the 30 or possibly get the 50. I think this video convinced me for the 50. It really has everything I could want, and I've already forgotten about the forester
Subarus are mechanically sound but can't say anything good about the exterior design. Case in point, you compared the BRZ to the Toyota 86, they are basically the same car but it's apples to oranges when both are parked side by side.
@@sshamon72 Yeah it's really a great machine to drive in - so much fun factor. My wife has a 2015 Mazda 6 with 105K miles on it and it still drives like brand new. I'm more looking forward to the CX-90 due to my family growing so hopefully in a couple years I can upgrade.
@@RaitisRides Thank you! Mazda truly is underrated for their driving experience. My wife has a 2015 Mazda 6 with 105K miles on it and it drives beautifully, like it's brand new out of the showroom!
Currently have a 2017 touring cx 5 which includes sport mode and has hill assistance. the laugh when he went down hill hitting brakes around a curve is so accurate. I live on the top of a hill in indiana and nobody keeps up with me going up or down the curves. Not due to speed but drivability and performance. the 2023 cx-50 has my attention now
Now Joe, this is what I call a beautiful, beautiful vehicle. It is almost perfect. Well done Mazda. I'll be waiting in line outside my local dealer to get one as soon as they arrive. That is it. Done deal!!!
@@mezzb I got the Mazda Select CX30 Halloween of 2020 for 28500 out the door. only thing i dont really car for in it is the sound system. really liking the 50 though
LOVE this new Mazda and was about to buy a Passport Trailsport HPD but I changed my mind....I want the NEW CX50 Turbo Premium Plus now!!! Hurry up dealership first deliveries!!!
Promising changes in the CX50 that hopefully translate to the next year's CX5. Glad to see they moved the location of the cup holders. Having it in front of the gear shift in the current CX5 means taller cups and bottles make it difficult to use the gear shift. I'm also ready for a redesign of the key fob. The current one is cheap feeling and falls apart easily.
I agree. It’s also difficult having to take it apart just to get the manual key out of it instead of being able to insert and remove the manual key with a small latch!🤷♀️
I don't think that there are any plans to change the CX-5 further, after all it just had a mild update for 2022. The market will decide, but for my money I hope they keep selling the CX-5 as the CX-50 did not convince me why I want it over the CX-5.
@@therevanchist1123 many options to choose from a Silicone cover, Hardshell, leather case. Or easily swap the original black casing to a color one to match your vehicles paint color. 😎
Another great review with awesome camera work. Just want to point out the Toyota/Mazda factory is in Huntsville Alabama, not Birmingham. Not nitpicking, but rather giving recognition to the folks there building these beautiful machines…
The CX-5 has been my favorite compact crossover in it's class since it was introduced in 2012. Now, this CX-50 offers even more design excellence, capability, and features to the Mazda lineup. I would now much rather have the CX-50 over the CX-5. It is definitely the best in it's respective class, and most attractive inside and out. Way to go Mazda!!
Love my 2018 CX-3!!! Just under 100k miles only had to change oil, brakes, tires and tranny fluid! Get like 24-27 mpg. Glad Mazda is finally getting its flowers we been on the Mazda train 💯
Agreed. I expect a fully digital gauge cluster especially if this is supposed to be a premium brand. Even Hyundai and Kia have fully digital gauge clusters on many of their vehicles now and better tech than Mazda overall. Mazda needs to update their tech
That infotainment screen is way to far behind. It should be more within arm's reach. Plus, it is in a groove which makes touching icons at the bottom very difficult. I don't understand why no reviewer points it out.
Hi Mr. Raiti, great reviews on this new CX-50, very informative, thank you. I am currently driving Mazda 6 sport (2017), 6 speed manual transmission (it's pretty awesome). *I do have one issue come to find out, I ended up having to change my battery every year since I own this car. I think maybe because I had an alarm system guy put in this great alarm gadget back in 2018 (I don't know but maybe it's the reason). I'm just happy that when I go to start the car, it's not starting because battery is dead and not anything else major like the "engine" or whatever. But your review have me thinking because I wanted something off road and was debating on a "Jeep" (love them too). This CX-50 is like so perfect, sporty, classy, cool, and simple! Mazda really are worth the money!❤👍
Hey Joe! We were alerted by our mazda dealer this morning that 3 CX-50’s had been delivered this morning, so we immediately drove out to see them. Love the new Mazda! Only one of them was a turbo, and the first customer in the door snapped it up. Dang!!! We test drove the premium non-turbo cx-50 which was still great. But we want the turbo, so we’ll wait for it. So, we’re driving around with the sales guy, who probably wondered why we were talking about “twinkie trays” and “smores storage”! And then when we took it out on the highway, we yelled, “ON THROTTLE”! It’s good to know more about the car than the sales person when you go on the test drive, LOL! We were telling HIM about the new features of the car…..so thanks Joe!!!
I just bought a brand new 22 CX-30 Turbo Premium plus . It is a blast to drive and the interior is near luxury car level . I was thinking about waiting for the cx 50, but cant get over the squared off wheel wells . A wheel is round and so should be the wheel well .
I thought the rear door openings on the Forester were pretty much that wide anyway? We currently have 2 foresters but I want a turbo CX-50 as Subaru dropped the XT. The only think I think some people would want is heated cloth seats on the lower trim, not every one wants leather. Excellent video Raiti! (Great cinematography too ;-)
I'm a Subaru fan and will cross shop the Outback XT with the CX-50t. Luv the style of the Mazda and looks to have great cargo space, but not crazy about the 45 profile tires on an SUV. Would prefer 19" with 50 or 55 profile tires? Perhaps the Meridian addition when it comes out...
I have owned three Mazda's and I'm currently waiting for my CX 5 to come in. I looked at the CX50 and I really loved it but I didn't want to spend the extra $$ to get the same trim level that I got in my CX5. As it is I really don't go off-road so I would never use it for how it was designed. I would ABSOLUTELY buy the over a Subaru Forester. My sister has a Forester and she doesn't like it, her biggest complaint is the CVT.
Been on the edge about this vehicle! This video sold me! Dealership near me has a Turbo Premium Plus on transit and can’t wait to own this vehicle! Great video, love all the Candy references 😂
Bought one from a local dealer that wasn’t charging a markup. Very nice vehicle. Only thing I don’t l like is all the black plastic around the wheel wells.
Joe, your quick readers digest style history lesson before the vehicle review is awesome. You bring fun to the saying “you learn something new everyday.” What a great teacher you must’ve been!
Thank you very much for another brilliant review, love your videos. With the Gas prices being so high, would love Mazda to follow Toyota's lead and release a hybrid version.
I have a cx-50 I love it so much I got the non turbo and I am so happy I purchased my cx-50 I love the quality of the seats and many more features. I will be soon buying my roof tacks and tray.
Great Review as usual, I love my 2016 CX-5 but would definitely get the CX-50 when the time comes for a replacement. Good job Lori in the visuals! I am curious on the reliability of Mazda turbo's down the road.
Awesome Masda CX50 Zonkman I think Masda did a dandy of a job and I love it. I also love the premium plus trim quite frankly and Halleluyah that Masda now has a touch screen.
Looks great! Love this video. I am seriously considering the CX-50 TPP and the Kia EV6 for purchase in the near future. Curious how RR would rate the CX-50 vs. the EV6 for drive and handling. Different animals, sure. But would welcome the feedback.
I am glad they are blacking out those front grille pieces and rear pieces. I have the '21 Mazda 6 Carbon and just had a shop black out all the chrome pieces.
Not crazy on the dash design and infotainment looks further back then the CX5, I do love the center console, that is a 💯 improvement, only takes a couple scrapes on a bubba straw to tell you that from the CX5 😅, love the panoramic sunroof and the extra trunk space also those seats, at least one manufacturer understands not everyone wants black or grey leather seats but I did see the seating options were not as extensive as the CX5 and looks like they are phasing out most of the piano black 🙌🏻
As a happy driver of multiple Mazda 3 hatchbacks, I was impressed with the amount of space the driver has for ingress/egress. The other features shown are impressive. When does my lease run out?
Thank you for the review Joe. I am in the market for a cx-5, but the cx-50 looks beautiful. Have you had the chance to drive the non turbo version? If so, what are your thoughts?
I have a White 2021 CX-5 without the turbo engine. Don’t get me wrong it’s something I would have loved to have added but the way my money is set up!! Lol I’ve had my car for a year. It’s my 1st Mazda but won’t be my last. It handles so well and it’s perfect for my daily life. I haven’t had a issue with the engine it picks up fine for highway on ramps. With gas being 4.19 cents I’m happy to not have to deal with the turbo engine at this point!
Mazda is killing it. I recently purchased a 2021 Mazda 3 hatchback and for the money it feels so premium compared to many in the same segment and I even like the interior way better than the BMW 335i’s that I was looking at.
I think all salesman in dealership needs a short course from you man. I love always how you explained every time you have a car review. Hands off good job
Hey Joe, good review of the CX50. I went to the grand opening premier for this same car last Tuesday. Impressed with the styling and interior especially with the pano sunroof. Mazda improved the seats making it more comfortable than the CX5 IMO. Salesman told me Mazda went without a independent rear suspension on this one? I haven’t driven it yet but was wondering if you noticed any handling drop off? I remember in the 90’s when Nissan did the same thing with the Maxima and the drop off in handling was noticeable. All that said, CX50 is priced right and you have to see it in person to appreciate how good it looks inside and out.
I owned a Maxima, new in 1991, with rear independent suspension. My brother bought a 1995 with the semi independent rear suspension, The 1995 actually rode quieter. I even had a 1984 Buick Century with a rear twist beam axle that rode better than my 91. That is why I am interested in this car.
Mazda did it real big, I pull up in my 2018 Mazda 3 in Walmart parking lot and saw one. I went home and sleep eat and drink Mazda cx50 that day, and had to make an order. I can’t wait for mines to arrive🏅🏅🏅
I've made an appointment to test drive one. I was sold on the Toyota Corolla Cross before, but after experiencing Mazda for the first time I've got to get one of these for my next vehicle instead. The CX-50 is perfectly positioned in both cost and performance for me.
If you compare this with forester you have to mention the high windows and the high visibility from forester. Looking at the view when you are driving it will be hard to see much going offroad. And the front bumper has very low aproach angle. I am not sure what this will clear. And you need to compare the awd systems.
I live in Colorado and here, for a daily driver that can adventure on weekends, Subaru is king. I am currently considering the forester wilderness for my wife as a daily driver that is a little more off road capable than her current car. But damn Mazda this is easily a top contender. The looks are no question better than the Forester and nearly as capable off road if not better. I might wait for the more off road focused meridian edition though because to me that is the full package. I hope they add a front skid plate and give the vehicle a lift like the Wilderness line. At least it has the option for a turbo and has more power, makes it a tough choice. Love seeing another company offer the allure of a Subaru at close to the same price.
I'm far from an CUV/SUV guy but Mazda knocked it out with the styling on this one again, like with the 2018 CX-5 and 7. Just gorgeous! Wish the Mazda six had a more athletic version to match it's unmatched styling, more on par with Camry TRD .
The only weakness of the Subaru is the lack of a 8 sp automatic transmission and turbocharged 2.4L option. Subaru must quickly adapt to changing demands or Subaru could face demise of the brand they way Saturn & Saab did. Mazda is playing smart as niche market brand.
The only thing I hate is that they only offer 360 camera view for the premium plus trim. I feel like for the premium trim they should have offered it as well.
I just bought a fully loaded 2022 cx5 signature. And mannnn if this was available I don’t know how I could pass up the cx50. Traded in my 5 series for Mazda and loving it so far. This cx50 is absolutely stunning
I'm a huge Mazda fan, My last two vehicles were a Mazda and I love them. I am very impressed with the CX50 and what it can do. If it were up to me between the Subaru and this one, I would choose the Mazda. One thing I wish Mazda will do is increase cargo space in their CX9 SUV, I wanted to get one, but I had to go to a Pacifica because the cargo space on the CX9 is just not there and I hope that they can bring that back because if they do, I will switch back
I rate your review Two Twinkie's up! One Zonk for not noting the CX-50 specs that are equal or more favorable to the Outback turbo. CX-50 has 43 lb's more torque, a longer wheelbase, and similar ground clearance with the performance and aesthetics that compete head-on with higher priced luxury alternatives. CX-50 - Forester is a Cup Cake to Devil Dog comparison. ;-)
It's so hard to pick between Mazda and Subaru. I own a 2021 Mazda CX-5 AWD which I love and a Subaru 2021 Forester Limited that's amazing. I do think Mazda is one of the most underrated car brands. Will I trade my CX-5 for a CX-50? Probably. Another great Mazda vehicle!
