In the 2023 Division 2 State Championship, Game, two-time defending champion Warren De La Salle looked to retain their title against state power Muskegon.
Muskegon's senior quarterback M’Khi Guy stole the show, accounting for four touchdowns, while rushing for 215 yards on 25 carries. To add to the night, he made the most out of his limited throwing attempts, going 4-for-6 for 159 yards.
Despite tailing 21-7 at the half, led by Guy, the Big Reds of Muskegon outscored the Pilots 26-0 in the second half, en route to a 33-21 victory. The win marked their first state championship, since 2017.
The game was broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit, called by Matt Shepard (play-by-play), former Detroit Lions tight end Rob Rubick (analyst), and reporter Natalie Kerwin (reporter).
