JCW is better for dynamic (suspension) but 0-60 is so close it doesn’t matter. The S will be more smoother and the JCW will be more sport for long drives, both are fun but if you like cornering JCW. I would do the JCW 👍🏻
how does the 8 speed compare to the 7 speed DCT in the Cooper S? You mentioned that the ride is a little bumpy but did changing the damper setting smooth out the ride?
The 8 speed has quicker shifts and the end result faster. Also the JCW has more power and tuned suspension which can ride firm but the engagement is better. When you drive it slower it is harder and higher speeds it’s smooths out. If you drive the S, it’s enjoyable but the JCW feels like you need to go on a track.
Good review, you’re the first reviewer I’ve seen who actually shows cargo are seats folded. Frankly it’s a disappointing sight to see the folded seats stack up so high, essentially just a weirdly shaped pass-thru. My Abarth 500C seats fold flat and triple the cargo capacity, which is wide open not just a pass thru. It can even carry my road bike in back (front wheel removed), which the JCW obviously can’t do. Bummer.
In the Abarth - the front seats sit high (which make you feel as though you are sitting on a high bar stool), while on the Mini it's a more traditional seating position. This is why the rear seats fold down differently. On another note: when opening the top - on the Mini the entire top + frame opens giving you the true convertible experience, while on the Abarth the top peels back and the roof frame stays in place. I had an Abarth convertible and today I have the JCW convertible. Both are fun cars. Sadly, Fiat disappeared again from the USA.
