I don’t think scream will be a flop, it’s a modest budget and with a new location and a feeling of a new beginning I think people will be turning up for it. Also with Jenna Ortega’s star power I think it will massively help the film - she is very of the moment
I'm boycotting the movie because of what they did to neve, and I don't think I'm the only scream fan that's doing so. So who knows, prob a dip from the last entry
Yeah its a crazy year compared to 2022, great having more then one or two movies to choose from each month in theatres but like Grace says on the influence of steaming since Covid will too many movies cause small box office numbers for the big franchises, maybe!🤔
2023 is so packed and I'm so excited for the year. And I talked to someone the other day. We can forget someone's personal lives for 2 hours. I can't wait to watch The Flash. It's a movie I waited for a while and I want to see the technology used in the filmmaking. And I also want to see 2 Batmen in 1 movie. I also hear the movie has some heart which makes me hope it's rewatchable.
Interesting list. I don’t think Scream will flop. I cannot imagine the budget is that large for the film and horror is easy to turn a profit. Scream fan base should get it there as a moderate success.
Many Scream fans are not seeing it because of what happened to Neve so we’ll see how it does. I am personally going to wait until it comes online because of this whole situation.

I think there’s a chance Dune could explode this year. The 2021 movie managed to make 400M despite coming out during the pandemic and being released on HBOMax the same day
I'm gonna be honest, I want all of these movies to be good and do well, but I think that this will be a pretty tuff year for "big" movies to succeed, given how nowadays waiting for streaming is an overall better choices given how mediocre so many projects have been lately.

just because mario bros videogames are popular, that doesn't mean the film will do huge numbers, people thought the same of Detective Pikachu and did ok, I hope the film do well but is not a sure thing.
@@anthonycampos8057 a bunch of new people who were the center of the last film? People don’t realize that Sidney was pretty much a backup character in scream 5. She was only their because she involved herself in the plot. She wasn’t a pivotal part of the movie.
I think all the DC films this year should be considered wild cards since we don't know the full plans from Gunn & Safran. Lets talk again after we know the upcoming slate.
My gosh, I actually love Blue Beetle - favorite DC hero tbh - and didn't even realize he had a movie coming out this year! Goes to show how crazy this year's movie lineup is going to be. Me and friends are looking forward to the D&D movie, Spiderverse, and all the Marvel movies - and now I'm excited for Blue Beetle too!
I’m looking forward to the Little Mermaid, Blue Beetle, Spider-Man and D&D. I think those are the only ones that I’d go out of my way to see in theaters
The 2023 lineup is straight crap and all franchise based garbage- another Transformers, another Fast & Furious, another Ghostbusters, another Dungeons & Dragons, another Scream, another Indiana Jones w/ an 80 year old Harrison Ford, Barbie, The Little Mermaid... aside from maybe Mario & Oppenheimer... let it all bomb.. all of it!

I’m definitely looking forward to this year for movies. The past 2 1/2 years have felt very strange and I haven’t been in the best mood to go to the theatre all the time, but I think this year that’ll change for sure.
Maybe barely making it to 1 billion, but why not, Beauty and the Beast (2017) made 1,256 billion worldwide, Aladdin (2019) made 1.050 billion worldwide, and then 2 months later THE LION KING (2019) made 1,659 billion worldwide, so don't think that the little mermaid won't make 1 billion dollars, but I see your point, maybe barely like jurassic world dominion, the first two made it to 1 billion dollars, the poor reviews did not stop the movie from hitting 1 billion worldwide, just like the live-action disney movies, they complained about the movies like beauty and the beast, actually no one didn't like the movie with 77% on rt but aladdin had 59% on rt and still made it, the lion king had 56% on rt and 1.659 billion worldwide, ok I'm currently thinking that the little mermaid, would be like jurassic world dominions 1.001 billion worldwide.
I sure asked for The Hunger Games prequel and so did a lot of other people. The book was amazing and I’m beyond excited for the prequel, the cast and crew are amazing!

I'm interested to see how The Little Mermaid performs. The earnings of Disney's live-action adaptions have, indeed, been stellar; but none of those movies' trailers received 3+ million downvotes. The last two projects to be similarly ratio'd were The Rings of Power and Witcher: Blood Origin.
@@anyaaa2801 The Little Mermaid is getting a lot of attention, so I think that's going to translate into a decent amount of money, but I'm not sure it'll be a billion. I think around 7 or 8 hundred million is possible in light of the backlash: similar to Wakanda Forever or Thor: Love and Thunder. We'll see.

Harry Potter world also have a big fan base , but,I don't think people are so eager to see Hunger Games without main characters from the original movies. But if it turns out to be great, the word of mouth will help
I actually have a feeling that Mission Impossible 7 is going to do really well. The last one was one of the best in the franchise in my opinion. Tom Cruise has a resurgence as well. I think it could make the 1 billion club. Little Mermaid and FF 10 are definitely locks in my opinion. I have high hopes for The Marvels but unfortunately, I think Grace might be right. It could be a literal disaster. Guardians of the galaxy could get close to 1 billion. I’m hoping Antman Q can surge. Despite the other two movies, being some of my least favorites in the MCU, I’ve got a feeling Ant-man Q could exceed expectations with the addition of Kang.
They aren't even teasing Kang is the villain in antman yet, like the line of "An avenger? Have I killed you before?" isn't even in the publicly released trailer, it better be in that superbowl spot coming up or else they are playing chicken with the general audience not getting what this movie is about.

You have to try real hard to make a horror movie fail at the moment, the halloween team sure tried and they had their og cast lol. Better to make a good movie without your leads than a bad movie *with* them.
I dont get the whole "This MCU movie need to do 800M to not be an embarassment" argument. The movie needs to be profitable especially with the actual climate for the industry. If Ant Man 3 budget is around 150M ... then why do it needs to do 800M to do "ok" ? I dont get it lol. It doing around 650M is largely enough with such budget
U don't get it because u need the remember the MCU has been the only juggernaut billion dollar franchise in the last 5 years. Its the most popular franchise among comic books and non comic books movies. The GA and the fans especially have high expectations of the MCU movies. If your second and third installment of these movies isn't doing better than its first then it's a disappointment
She definitely has Hollywood/Twitter tunnel vision about certain topics - especially people deciding whether to not watch a movie because of who is in it or worked behind the scenes. I loathe the woman Whoopi Goldberg has become but I'll still watch the 'Sister Act' movies - why deny myself enjoyment because she's gone off the rails. And I don't think I'm the exception.
I completely agree with your analysis. Especially looking at the similar historical movies. With the Lion King's $1.7B, even though it was very controversial artistically, I think that if the Little Mermaid doesn't even get a billion, Disney needs to take a hard look at themselves. And as much as I love the first two Guardians movies, I agree looking at those numbers, its probably going to make around the same as the previous two. I suspect somewhere in the $800M range. And I LOVE Mission Impossible. Probably my favorite franchise out there, but realistically I would guestimate in the $700M range.
Before the pandemic I'd take off every Friday afternoon in the summer to see a movie, and much of the rest of the year. This year I'm recommitting to giving myself that treat. Many of us could benefit from making ourselves get out of the house more often.

I hope Spiderverse gets to a billion, but maybe it won't. Blue Beetle and Shazam will flop, but I want to to watch them xD. I feel bad for The Marvels flopping but it might, I love Kamala (In the comics and the actress is perfect but they really messed her up in the MCU) and I love Monica. The only way for it to have attention is if they include Rogue and leaves Carol in a comma (awful thing to say, but people will be attracted to that idea)

I'm scared for Halle Bailey based on her acting ability. Her supporting cast are really good. So if she isn't on their level or better it's gonna fall flat.
I think she’s a good actor based off what I’ve seen of her in grown ish and getting booked for other roles like the color purple. Apparently she’s really good in screen tests and Rob marshal says she comes across as a seasoned actress so we’ll see.

The Little Mermaid was a flop on Broadway. It’s a beloved cartoon but in live action form it doesn’t work as well as others. I guess it’s hard to argue that it won’t make 1B if those other live action ones all did and there wasn’t anything special about them. I just feel this has flop energy to it like the stage show did.
I think you’re over thinking how much people care about an over arching narrative when it comes to DC. If the movies are good, people will see them. The general audience barely keep up with the MCU.

I think the little mermaid is gonna be a gigantic hit. The hate it’s getting is only a small minority of trolls and those dislikes have already been proven false since the third party extension service is inaccurate and doesn’t use data authorized by RU-vid themselves. That combined with the fact the teaser broke the record for the biggest Disney princess live action trailer views of all time and it’s gonna be a major hit. The media controversy is only adding to the publicity because people who would’ve never checked out this movie are gonna do it now.

Some of these boxoffice numbers will be significantly impacted by whether they can secure a China release. China appears to be accepting fewer and fewer western films in the past few years.
I hope Oppenheimer is low-budget and as close as possible to reality, not a check box nini-true production that distorts history to be in the good side of Hollywood. Also, I don't like the idea of all movies being judged on how much money they can produce. They need to be profitable, but they don't need to produce 4 times their bugged or worse. It's nice to have movies that one goes to learn and think some times.
Knights of the zodiac Live action adaptation is coming this 2023 as well, another manga/anime with massive fandom World wide and we (the fans) are a bit worry about it. This one has to be good also there are some rumors about filming the sequel already...crazy times
It's a dumpster fire on its 5th or 6th round of reshoots... Kennedy is hell bent on erasing Indiana Jones fron history & can't make a version of that movie which test audiences don't become aggressively hateful about it.
On the DC films, your reasoning makes sense on paper but in reality, will Aquaman's 1 billion+ audience really be aware of DC's reboot? And hold that against the movie? Was Aquaman the character the reason it succeeded or was it the movie's beautiful VFX/tropical vibes, perfectly positioned during the holiday season?
It really doesn't make sense lol. Why would people miss out on a possibly potential good movie and not go see it making a potentially good movie bomb at the box office just because of DC's reboot? I'm part of the Aquaman audience and I know all about the reboot but If this new Aquaman movie is getting good reviews/good word of the mouth of it being good and the trailers for the movie looks good then why not go out and support it? The reboot is sad but it should be totally irrelevant right now on your decision on whether if you're going to see these new DC films this year.

Mario has the potential to join the billion dollar club if it has a really well executed story. You are probably right to leave it out but it is the only one that I can envision making it.
I'm not so convinced about The Little Mermaid. The soundtrack might do great. Maybe the film do okay, but I'll very surprised if it hits billion. I think it'll do okay numbers to flop numbers. 1) A lot of people are mad the Mouse right now. The stocks are down and park attendance is also down I believe. Several of their films have either not quite made what they were supposed to or flopped. 2) People's movie going habits have changed. Most to all Disney properties go to Disney+ after 45-90 days. Sometimes 30 days with flops like Strange World I believe. 3) The more recent live actions remakes have been on Disney+ and I don't think they've done well critically or in viewership(?). That's what Disney also did with animation the last few years and it probably didn't help Lightyear or Strange World. 4) They changed the storyline. There will be little to no Prince Eric, who is fairly popular. From what I understand, he's getting Prince Phillip'd (Maleficent). There is also no romance. Another important aspect of the original. Again, I don't think this film is going to do well. Unless people hate watch it.

It's strange for me that people shall not watch DC movies, just because it's rebooting. It's ridicilous! How about individual performance (like Joker)? Unconnected movie (like Batman)? Also, two of 2023 DC movies are the sequels, they're continuing their own arks. Marvel just ruined people's mind with this “Connected” things. Because now people think, if it's not connected-it's bad!
Fast X I feel is going to flop, losing both Johnson and Walker is a blow that the franchise never recovered from and the car-fu has evolved to the point where the series is no longer an action film, the characters are more magicians. Last Fast film underperformed massively and I am skeptical of Fast X actually grossing more.
I usually agree with your takes Grace but did anyone really expect BONES AND ALL, a NC-17 indie cannibal movie to bring in a lot of $ at the box office? And the last time i checked, the critics loved this movie just take a look at the high RT score
