This corner lot with almost full sun exposure was grass for decades before being re-planted in November 2022 as a part of the LADWP turf replacement program. With nearly 2,300 sq. ft. of space, we tried to balance cohesive calmness and spontaneity. Now five months old*, the garden has a few hundred California native plants, fruit trees, garden boxes, two dry creek beds, a bubbling fountain, and a baby coast live oak tree.
While the Garden Tour has traditionally featured established gardens (2-3 years or older), Jack’s Garden was selected to share the process of lawn removal in light of the new drought restrictions and rebates.
